I definitely would not recommend this company. I hired A Good Plumber for extreme banging noises coming from the radiator and pipes. The plumber replaced the air valve on the radiator for $341, and reset and re-angled the radiator for $419. A dispatch fee of $99 was added, plus tax and credit a card fee for a total of $963.32. Unfortunately, the work that he did not resolve the noise problem, but rather, created a leak that damaged my floor boards. (The plumber had to come back the next day for the leak.) read more

I had a problem with my shower. Thomas came out took a look at the problem, resolved the problem ordered new parts and he installed them. We had some tile work to do so we finished the tile work and Thomas could not come back out so they sent another plumber called Mauricio. He came and put the plate on and told me I owed him $3600 which was the job was only a $2500 job and I told Thomas to run my credit card. Mauricio did not believe me and demanded that I would pay him the 2500 before he left my home so I called this. Office explained it to the secretary. She was very nice and I explained to her I own a service company also and if any of my people would've spoke to a customer the way he spoke to me I would fire him right on the spot. He was rude and he refused to leave my house until he got a payment. This is why I have to leave this company in one star review. If Thomas would've came back you would've got a five star review you need to check all your employees goes one better. Employee could ruin a company. read more

I called for a boiler tune-up. In retrospect, I should have realized the job was going to be outlandishly expensive as soon as I opened the door. Three men for a one man job. Two workers plus a manager type. To make matters worse was when it was recommended that I have the air valve on my radiator swapped out and I said sure. It's a small, cylindrical $29.99 item at retail. Unscrew the old one, screw on the new one. Charged me $269. And 10 cents. $269.10! Then the 3% surcharge for using a credit card, a policy I was not informed of in advance. Not that it would have mattered because I did not have the $1000+ available to withdraw, anyway. But 3 stars for their friendly and punctual and knowledgeable service, and 0 stars for me for not asking their price in advance. read more

They never have to return a second or third time like other plumbers. I was severely overcharged for changing the mechanics in my toilet bowl tank. I could have purchased a new toilet. Also the plumber took a long time to do this simple job. If I had the right parts I could have done it myself. So far the quality of the work seems to be okay, but that remains to be seen. Also, when I called, the person who answered the phone was very rude. I felt I had to repeat myself and he responded "and there she goes again". Not very business like. Will never use them again. This business thinks you're stupid and expects that you will overpay for everything. I am surprised by their 1) lack of knowledge, 2) unreasonable prices that call into question their business practices, and 3) the unpleasant customer service. 1) Lack of knowledge: I had an issue with my shower and the tech was not able to confidently diagnose it. I later found out it was a simple matter of replacing an easy to access part. A Good Plumber suggested replacing the entire shower body which would require breaking tile, a job well into the thousands when this job is more like $800. 2) Questionable business practices: The flapper on my otherwise functioning toilet needed replacement (a common item that needs regular replacement) and they took this as an opportunity to sell me a new toilet. A flapper is about $15 and takes 7 minutes. That's like an auto repair shop telling you to buy a new car because your wipers are getting old. 3) Unpleasant customer service: The person I called for a follow up became hostile when I asked for a ballpark figure for how much it generally costs to remedy my shower issue - very unprofessional. There are great plumbers out there that charge a fair price, this is not one of them. read more

I landed on this provider on Next Door where at this time they have 17 "hearts", which I now know is not the same as a star rating. The service technician, Maurizo, was on time and courteous and professional. However the quote of $1200 to replace one radiator shutoff valve and 4 to 6 fittings to connect the inlet and outlet to the inbound and return pipes was unreasonable. This radiator was on the top floor, which makes me question why the plumber thought he needed to drain the entire system. Which he claimed would take 3 hours. And which takes 15 minutes, unless you are on... Mars? Yes, filling it does take longer. 30 minutes. Except on Mars. There it takes only 7 minutes. Even with one master plumber at $200/hr (high end for simple piping work) and an assistant at $50/hr, to justify $1200 they would have to spend almost 4.5 hours on a job that should take a less experienced crew 2 hours at most. I know because I replaced the shut-off valve alone, on the radiator just downstairs, on the same hot water circuit, in 2 hours. I am not a plumber, I am a Russian history major. 7 years later it remains rock solid. (I'm also an astronaut so I have a couple tricks..) The woman I spoke to on the phone was friendly and professional, and most importantly, calmed me down enough to change my review from a 1-star to a 2-star. I'd like to give them a 3-star review, but don't see how I can knowing how overpriced their estimate was. I leave you with the following verbatim quote from the office manager/dispatcher - " we are not overpriced... just too expensive for you". 'Nuff said. If you want a premium, ultra-luxe, upscale, slow and relaxed radiator repair - this is your shop. Pros - Very nice people. Clearly skilled. No complaints about the work that was done in my home except for the price and the sales pressure. Cons - The mark up is beyond what I think of as a trustworthy business. He charged me $200 for a part that is $30 retail that took 1 minute to install. I don't know the mark up in the cost for the other part. His quote for a new thermostat was the same price as my entire boiler service and thermostat from another master plumber. Had my gas turned off by National Grid on Tuesday 01/17/23 in the morning. Issue was header pipe replacement requiring master plumber Task 87 certified. Looked up the plumbers in my area and found this company. Called them up, wanted 199 to stop by. At this point no gas, winter time, kids in the house, I said ok. Mauricio came , gave me a quote, we negotiated a little. Agreed upon a price and next day came and replaced the pipes. Could I have done the job myself, probably. But I'm not Task 87 certified. Can I find another plumber for cheaper, for sure. But then I gotta wait for them to come and give me a quote etc etc. I need my gas on asap.I got no heat, no hot water, no dryer and no cooking stove. I got kids and a wife , so u know this gotta get done like now. Mauricio was able to come back next day Wednesday, did the job and I was able to schedule National Grid to show up this Friday. My Mother's 10 year old water heater went the day after Thanksgiving and Thomas was available to replace her water heater along with his nephew. I was notified 20 min. before they arrived....and they were on time.... He completed the job and was very neat. I must add that he was honest in telling us that the water heater my mom had was for approx. 6 families and he replaced it with one that was for 3 families . .. I loved that Maurisio showed up on time and wore a mask and shoe covers. What I did not love was that they quoted me 3 times the amount the job should have cost. I had a very small leak in the cold water side of my tub faucet and the diverter was faulty. ok, change the stems, washers and seats for all three handles. That was the work suggested but by the plumber and I was quoted over $600 for that repair, plus a $99 service call fee. What a way to take advantage of a "dumb" female client!! I paid the service call fee and said no thank you to that ridiculously high inflated bologna price. I paid the service fee plus tax and called an honest plumber to complete the repair. read more

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this plumbing service. They repeatedly attempted to grossly overcharges me-- $1,300 for what should have ben a $10 part + labor. In the end, I had to pay the nonrefundable $99 fee, and sent the plumber packing. I got the part myself from Home Depot and fixed the problem in 10 mins. I called for a very routine issue regarding a leak from the dishwasher hose where it connects to kitchen sink drain. The obvious fixes were: 1. Replace the gasket ($5 part) 2. Replace the drain hose ($10 part) The plumber instead offered only to rebuild the entire drain assembly for the cost $1,300. Eventually we settled on a simpler fix for $300, which was still way overpriced, but at least would fix the issue. He took apart the entire drain assembly, and then went back on his quote, and again told his only option was to charge me $1,300 to rebuild the entire assembly. He said the $5 gasket was "hard to find" and didn't want to spend the time looking around for the part. After much haggling, where he was very rude and condescending, I asked him to put the sink back together and kindly leave. It cost me $100, and he fixed nothing. I went to Home Depot, bought the part for $10 and fixed it myself. DO NOT CALL THIS COMPANY! read more

Spent over a 2 thousand dollars to fix an issue with my radiators during the summer. During their visit, my girlfriend was up sold thousands of dollars worth of repairs which ultimately DID NOTHING (and really, seemed a bit unnecessary as neighbors commented they had no previous need for such repairs) to resolve the issue which presented itself again not even a half a year later. We called in the company yet again, and paid over 200 dollars to fix THE SAME ISSUE that should of been resolved earlier with their previous estimate and repairs. When presenting this information to both the customer service rep. and the plumber, they seemed to be a bit laissez-faire regarding this concern. Buyer beware of this plumbing company, they will up-sell you on useless fixes which ultimately resolve nothing and you may have to spend more money in the very near future to resolve the same issues. I couldn't even get past making an appointment. I called about a new boiler installation and the woman on the phone kept talking about doing same day repairs. I said it's not a repair, she said I know, I just want you do know we may not be able to do same day repairs?!? Then we got to making the appointment. That was impossible. "We can be there between 9-11" "I have to leave by 1030, can we make it the first appointment of the day?" "Yes, they will be there between 9-11" "I can't be there at 11, can you come first thing?" They are all courteous, explain the process well and are so neat. Mariana, office assistant, is helpful and efficient. She sends appointment confirmations and invoices by email and follows up on work requests in a timely manner. It's not that they are perfect. This is highly delicate work involving coordination with New York City Dept of Buildings and Con Edison. They were highly qualified and outstanding in their work, sensitive to the needs of all the apartment owners. Their work often involved intricate, sensitive repairs, getting into walls to reach pipes. They were able to keep the damage caused by repairs to a minimum and actually saved some very expensive apartment renovations previous done, as result. I have worked with A Good Plumber 3 times over the past couple of years. This July I needed to fix the heat in my bathroom as a preventative measure before the winter. The plumber insisted that adding a check valve and a ball valve was going to fix my heat. Come winter, I still don't have heat in two rooms. I call them back in, they drain the system and bleed the pipes, but they still charge me a service call fee claiming this is "new work" and not what they "fixed" in July. An Awful Plumber would have been a more appropriate name! During installation of a new water heater, their workers installed 2 safety valves ($399 each) without getting my prior verbal approval. When I contested it with their boss, he told me that I gave them an approval(" I'm not calling you a liar but...") Then they charged my credit card, without my authorization for the full amount, including the two valves that I was contesting. Obviously, I made a mistake by giving them a credit card number for the initial deposit . To add insult to injury, after they left I realized that the pipe that they supposedly installed for free was leaking! The old valves were left in place, and they're still working fine - my spouse and I fixed a bathroom faucet on our own by closing old valves after their work was done. Ok, I'm very late writing this review! But, I must say I was very impressed with the service from A Good Plumber. Last year, I had a terrible leak at one of my properties. Each time it rained, there would be water that trickled into basement. I worked with at least 3 other plumbers to try and identify and fix the problem. My husband found A Good Plumber (I don't know how), made an appointment and they fixed the issue. A few months later, the owner called us to check the status of the job (who does that anymore? such wonderful customer service) and made a few tweaks for further improvement. I had the pleasure of meeting him at my property and he wonderfully dropped me off to a train station line that was closer to my final destination (at least 15m away driving) because it was cold outside. Other small, but big thing he did: he wore these like shoe cover things over his shoes in an effort to not track dirt into my tenant's apartment. Great service, overall. Knows what they're doing. Outstanding! Jose and his partner (please forgive my not remembering the name), came on time the next day. My Mother's one bathroom row home was leaking through to the kitchen ceiling below. They were professional, very courteous, knowledgeable and took the time to explain all the repair options in an easy to understand manner. We trusted them with the keys to the house and I brought my Mother to my home. We were kept abreast of the progress and everything was completed in two days. They had to replace the toilet, sink, and vanity and all the pipes going to and from them.
