A few minutes later, the office called me--not the technician standing outside my door--to tell me that repairing the hose was "impossible." They insisted the only solution was to rip out and replace the entire faucet fixture. They presented me with two options: one for around $1100 and another for $1300. When I asked if they could just replace the hose or patch the leak, they were adamant that a full, costly replacement was the only way. For the privilege of receiving this wildly inaccurate information, they kept my entire $200 deposit. Feeling that something was off, I decided to look into it myself. After a five-minute YouTube video, I walked to Home Depot, bought a $30 replacement sprayer kit, and fixed it myself with a basic wrench I already owned. The "impossible" job was a simple, standard repair that took me less than half an hour. This experience raises serious questions. Why was the technician unable to provide a diagnosis or quote without calling the office? Was he even a qualified plumber? Why was I charged $200 for a five-minute visit that resulted in a quote for a completely unnecessary, outrageously expensive job? This business model seems to be based on pressuring customers into wildly expensive procedures for simple fixes. The advice they gave was not just wrong, it was deceptive. Dov and his team are awesome. I called him at about 9pm because one of my pipes under the kitchen sink sprung a leak. Even though he couldn't come out at that time he walked me through how to shut the water off over the phone. The next day one of his team came over and quickly and CLEANLY fixed my pipe, wearing masks and even booties to cover their shoes. Unfortunately I had a really bad bathtub clog where none of the usual home remedies worked. I used Draino, a cheap snake from Amazon, and the good old plunger. Sadly after a 15 minute shower, I was ankle deep in water that would not drain. I found Dov on Yelp and they responded quickly even though it was 9pm on Thursday. David was here by 10:35 the same night and saved the day. He even put on sanitary booties so that my floor would stay clean. That was a very much appreciated extra touch. There was an issue with my toilet--every time I would flush, the water would rise and then go down very slowly. I tried baking soda and vinegar, cleaner and boiling hot water, nothing would work. I also couldn't get a hold of the super. I decided to pull up my yelp app for nearby plumbers and came across Dov Sewer and Drain. I called them up and was able to speak to someone right away. I explained my situation and he asked what neighborhood I live in. I'm in Crown Heights which worked out because he was close to my location. He told me the price and that he would get there in 15 minutes. Sure enough, he was there when he said he would. Before he entered my apartment, he put on disposable booties, which I really appreciate. When he tried snaking the toilet the first time, he said something was hard and asked if anyone flushes wipes or paper towels (I have no idea what it could have been but I know I don't flush paper towels or wipes). He had to snake it two more times but then everything was good after that. I paid him via Venmo and he was on his way. FYI - I have other plumbers, quote me between $180 - $250 per hour. And the job took an hour. I have used this company for my previous job, $375 for a sink basket leak. Expensive basket replacement. We had a problem with our shower pressure and they worked tirelessly through many calls with the manufacturer, helped get us the right parts, and came back to ensure everything was working and fixed. This was a big job as there cutting open the wall behind the sink and appliance, cutting out the old pipe and replacing with new pipe curving downward.
