Not a bad bakery. Stopped in to grab a loaf of french bread and to try what seems to be the famous half-moon (black and white) cookies. And since I was in there, I grabbed a few other types of cookies for someone who is allergic to chocolate. The bread wasn't a standout. I prefer the bread from a few other bakeries in the city. Not bad though. It served it's purpose. Cookies were pretty good. Half-moons were good. Had some oatmeal and sugar cookies too. They were OK too. They are definitely soft cookies, which I like. But I also like some chewiness to a cookie, which these don't have. I still ate a couple of them though so they can't be all bad. Nothing about this bakery is bad, especially their prices. I just don't think it's a great bakery compared to some of the other options in town. read more

After a rough call shift, i was on the prowl for a sweet treat...it was 630am and i saw that harrison bakery was open. "good reviews, great assortment of treats...open since 1949?? SOLD" so i beelined over. i felt like a kid in a candy store... do i get the half-moons, a donut, the cannoli, a jam filled cookie or... DANISH! was immediately drawn to the danishes and opted for the prune and cheese (only two without frosting). Each sold for $1.25 (DEAL ALERT) and i had already devoured nearly a third of the prune danish by the time i got to my car. it was damnnnn tasty. There is a sugar drizzle on top which is not necessary- the treat is sweet enough. the danish itself is more doughy than flakey which i LOVE. the cheese danish was also quite good- with a minimally sweet cheese innard. would recommend both to anyone! can't wait to go back and try more goodies (especially on a friday when they put out their fresh challah bread... yummmmmm) read more

We live out of state now, but every time we come back to Syracuse, we stop at Harrison Bakery. We love their chocolate frosted brownies that taste just like fudge. Their head lights, tail lights, and fog lights are extremely light and airy with just the right amount of sweetness! I also stock p on their Danish, which does freeze well for later. read more

I don't visit often but when I do, I feel a rush of nostalgia. I'm certain my rating is influenced by this as I've been visiting since I was a kid. This is an old school bakery- no modern or unique confections here. My favorites are their nut ring and poppy roll. The half moon cookies are alright but you can find others in the area that suit your taste. A bit too crumbly for me. The customer service is okay. It would be helpful if they had prices posted. As far as basic baked goods go, Harrison bakery is solid and unapologetically old school in my opinion. Definitely an institution in Syracuse. read more

When I tried to speak with the manager about correcting this, she was unhelpful, rude and smug. I won't be back. The halfmoon cookies aren't worth it to me. My wife has been craving warm Italian bread with butter for quite some time. So we went hunting for good breads around town. She called it "our bread date". We came across this bakery and were pleasantly surprised. They have a large selection of breads, which they make fresh daily, as well as a huge selection of baked goods. We were surprised at the prices and even went back to get a couple more sweets after quickly downing ours in the car. We will definitely be coming back. I was appalled at the lack of customer service and ownership from the manager and owner of Harrison Bakery. I ordered and paid for a birthday cake 5 days ago. I went in to pick it up, and I was confronted by an angry female manager who was rude, stating that they could not find my already paid for order. The cake had not been made. Somehow this was my fault! The angry manager also communicated that the owner was in a bad mood, and that if I wanted to wait around they might be able to put one together. I declined and requested a refund, to which the angry manager retorted "Why are you copping an attitude with me?" Really?! I was very patient- just trying to pick up my order. Always have seen a line outside of this bakery, so when it was raining yesterday and there wasn't a line, I had to see what was inside! What a great bakery! Extremely clean and well organized with lots of options and great prices. The person in front of me got a delicious cake (she said she always gets it-it's like a strawberry sponge cake with vanilla frosting) and she mentioned she'll buy the whole cake just because she wants a slice! And it was only $14 (at Wegmans that would be at least $35 to $50). Outside, I saw a sign saying they were rated #1 best black and white cookies so I got 7 cookies for my friends! They have both chocolate and yellow cake cookies for the black and white cookies which I thought was awesome! Never had one with a chocolate bottom before! Brought them home to my friends and they said they were "THE BEST COOKIES THEY HAVE EVER HAD". So great! It only ended up being around $8 for the 7 cookies which I thought was a great deal. Im not sure when the family atmosphere and service disappeared but I walked into Harrison hoping to get Italian bread & possibly some half moons. There were three seemingly younger employees working the counter, I asked if they had any Italian bread and the employee told me that they sold out. I saw a few loaves on the counter and asked if they were another customers or if they were for sale. The employee asked another employee and they said there were loaves in the back. The employee taking my order returned with 2 frozen loaves of bread and I asked if they would thaw in time for a dinner party in an hour and they said "it should" and proceeded to verify with another employee. Both of the other employees gave me different answers on how to heat or thaw the bread and then asked why I was eating dinner so early anyway...? Maybe I just went at a bad time, but I ended up leaving with just a dozen half moons and no bread and while it's not the end of the world I can't imagine the 70 year old family business wanting that to be the impression it's customers take away. read more

My all-time favorite bakery! I grew up attending Sacred Heart Church on Sunday's and always making a stop for half-moons after mass. I live in Buffalo now but when I am in town I always make a stop for my favorite treats. My favorite snack are the half-moons. They are perfect, not too rich like other places where you can't even finish them. I love the consistency of the cake and frosting. I grew up in Syracuse going to Harrison's all the time (my grandfather owned a car dealership on two doors down) and was excited today to stop in on a visit from Albany. I was visiting my uncle and wanted to bring him a Pumpernickel loaf, and I got a HUGE babka and a giant chocolate chip cookie to bring back home to my husband. Turns out my uncle got to the bakery before me and got ME a box of mini German chocolate, Black Forest, and cheese cakes. I'm in a delightful sugar coma now. How delicious, just as I remembered. When walking into Harrison Bakery you think, "Oh this looks like a regular hole in the wall bakery." Little did you know that you stepped into a paradise hidden in plain sight. The bakers appear to be average humans until you taste the banana nut muffin and then it hits you, these are angels singing a beautiful song into their baked goods and you, a foolish mortal, are lucky enough to taste it. 10/10 would eat there again everyday until I die and then a few more times after that. read more

They have everything from macaroons to half moon cookies to the famous Harrison bakery brownies. The brownies are my favorite. They are rich in flavor and have nuts in them with a smooth choclate frosting over them. The prices are so affordable I believe it is about a dollar a brownie. Reading these yelps.. everyone is a freaking critic hilarious really. Imagine being on the side of the counter to have to serve all of you nay sayers, petty, picky, ridiculously rude people! Firstly, it is a Jewish bakery. Not italian. Not polish. Jewish. Secondly, everyone works very hard to make so many pastries, breads, cookies, cakes.. to make you ungrateful people happy and yet you jump to yelp, crying about a brownie that didn't have enough frosting, or you not being responsible enough to order a cake a few days in advance, or special cookies in time to be written on. Bakers are not there all day long, they come in at midnight and leave when they are done. No one is gonna wait around for Karen to pop in on an emergency visit, so they can write on her stupid cookies. They want to go home and get some rest for the next day of hours and hours of baking. My entire family and I have been going to Harrison's Bakery since I was a little boy (born in 1952) and everything they make is as good as it gets. Forget the negative reviews, this is a classic American bakery with outstanding products. Some people are just ridiculous. They have a few specialties which are the best I've ever had ANYWHERE (half moons, brownies, napoleons, eclairs, etc., etc.). A visit to Harrison Bakery is a must any time I go home. Like Pam P. says, it has some really delicious Polish baked goods. I confess, as a child I would ask my mother to buy an extra loaf of poppy seed bread (Makowiec) so I wouldn't have to share with my cousins at the holidays. The babka is wonderful, as are the prune and nut breads. The cookie trays are also staple in my house around Christmas. But Harrison Bakery is more than just Polish goodies.
