We were here for a week. Beautiful location! Conveniently off 81 and close to several caverns, the VA Civil War Museum, and Shennendoah National Park. Our site was large, shaded and best of all level. No leveling blocks needed. Sites are gravel, clean and well maintained. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful! Well stocked store, and they will make and deliver pizza right to your campsite. Typical KOA amenities, and they have a stocked catch and release pond on site for those who love to fish. Lots of activities for the kiddos, too. The road in is a little hilly and several curves, but big rigs shouldn't have any trouble navigating it - the signage on the road is great (funny sign on the road that said "1/2 miles Don't Give Up." Lol). We're more "state park people" in that we enjoy the space and solitude and we don't have kids traveling with us (just dogs), so we don't typically need all the on-site activities. But this week we needed full hook ups, and this park gave us that feel. With so much to do in the area, we didn't get to it all, so we'll be back and we'll definitely stay here again. read more

It is better to get there by day. It is off the road a bit. You have to park at a stop sign and walk up a hill to reach the office to check in. The dog park is very small. Lots of larger gravel. The only lighting after dark they had was some that came on as I walked by them attached to trees. We were surrounded by forest so it was kind of scary being out there at 9 in the pitch black. There are lots of weeds that give the dogs briars in their feet. They have a trail you can go on that was nice but after 20mins my dog was ready to turn around. I never found out where that would have taken me lol. That was really the safest bet for walking him. There is many large rocks there. There isn't much grass. The pond is tiny. read more

I'll be the first to say, I'm more of a state park kinda guy. But, for special occasions, The Harrisonburg KOA is a great campground. It is a great location for our family. It is within an hour for all of us. A quick weekend trip. We have been down for the past two Halloweens and they know how to do it. They have plenty of activities for kids. They start by 12 and go through the Haunted Halloween hayride. They have a large number of trick or treaters and campsites do a great job of welcoming the kids. Every weekend in October they have a site decoration contest. It is fun checking out all of the crazy sites! We have already booked to come back next year! read more

Went back for a second trip for VKR appreciation weekend. First, a big thank you to these folks for continuing to participate in one of KOA's national events. They are only 1 of 6 total KOAs in the state that continue to participate. We got a patio deck site this time and it was awesome. It was so conveias we didn't pack much of anything. Chairs, a fire pit, a glider, benches, a table, and a gas grill were already at the site. Wifi, cable, and trash pickup included. Very friendly staff again this trip. Looking forward to our return visit for Halloween. read more

This place is a hidden gem. It's a ways off the highway, but worth the drive. The good: -It's quiet; situated in rural farm country. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway, this place is for you. -The sites are nicely situated and well maintained, with plenty of mature trees. The utilities are well placed. The sewer receptacles in particular are well positioned for ease of use. -The family that runs the place is super friendly and helpful. The whole place gives off a very family friendly vibe. -The camp store, while not the biggest and most extravagant, has most camping essentials, and has plenty of cute souvenirs to commemorate your stay here. -Chickens. Yeah. They've got free roaming chickens. The not quite so good: -It's a few miles off of the highway, which isn't a big deal, but the road to get there is a narrow 2-lane with lots of sharp curves and hills. Especially challenging at night. Mind your speed, and you'll be fine. -The roads within the campground are well maintained, but they left as many trees as possible to maintain the natural forest beauty. This makes a few of the curves a little tight if you've got a larger rig. As long as you're paying attention and watching your angles, it's all navigable. Overall, good experience. I'd have to agree with fellow Yelper Holly T. about this KOA Campground. It's very nice, clean, has good amenities such as pizza delivery if ordered by 8 pm. It's not a large site, compact, but with a nice pool, fishing pond, camp store, basic mini golf, ping pong, horseshoes, dog playground, shower facilities (clean with plenty of hot water) and generally level places for your RV. The space between lots isn't enormous, normal for campgrounds -- I guess this also depends on what site you get. There are also cabins for rent or lots with decks. They will obviously cost more than the $39 per night we paid for our space. One of the hidden jewels is about a 5 mile up and back hiking trail, which is adventurous and challenging. Once at the peak you won't get a view of the Shenandoah Valley like Mary's Rock or Humpback Rock ... you just reached the top of a wooded peak, so don't expect any bucolic photos. It's been quiet here during our short weekend stay. By 10 pm things are mandated to get peaceful and stay that way until 7 pm. All around, a good KOA Campground, because all are not created equally. We've been to others that aren't as nice. Our neighbors have been good too. We all know they can make or break the experience. I'd come back for sure. read more

Went back again in October. Great stay again. Spent two nights and three days there. This time we could do a little fishing in the pond. Let me tell you there are some BIG catfish, blugill and largemouth in that little pond! It was great for our niece to be able to catch some fish. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. Gave us some great recomendations about some things to see close around the area. Meemes Covered bridge was a great recomendation. The cable and WiFi was a great addition to the kampground. We look forward to seeing yall again! read more

Great KOA! It is obvious the owners are putting a lot of effort into upgrading and maintaining this spot. Only 4 miles from highway but feels completely private and quiet! And they have lots of trees!!! So nice to not be in a parking lot as in many KOA's. The internet is FREE and fabulous- this is very important to us and we are impressed! Nice bathrooms, friendly staff and general store. Great location! In the past we have stayed at other campgrounds in the area but this spot is the best -We will be back to enjoy in the spring. read more

We have stayed here twice already and have a reservation for another stay in a few weeks. We enjoyed the ride into the campground along the winding narrow road in the country. The staff was outstanding and friendlier than expected. We were escorted to our site and had no issues parking the RV. The campground is nice and quiet and very clean. I don't have issue with the little or no internet because we are camping and we don't need it. The cable TV is good but not necessary because we are camping. The pool is well maintained and was a very nice relief from the heat in August. The facilities were clean and up to date. The daily visits from the chickens is a nice touch and the smell of the mountains is wonderful. This is one hideaway you won't regret visiting. read more

perfect for cooler-weather camping! we stayed here a few days in november and had a blast. everything was beautiful and well-maintained and the location was great - close enough to enjoy luray, the national park, and harrisonburg! the campsite was heavily wooded and felt private and secluded. everyone who worked there was SO nice. our last morning, our little dog got loose and ran under one of the decks and they were right at our campsite with a crowbar ready to take the deck apart to get her out (this was fortunately not necessary )! we will be back next fall. read more

One of the best places we have camped. A place of business really sets itself apart on how they handle things when things go wrong. They went above and beyond when a few things went wrong with our stay and not only made it up, but made it a outstanding stay. There was all kids of actives going on for all ages, hiking trails, putt putt, ice cream socials, a nice pool and lots of other stuff to do. The staff is awesome, so nice and helpful. If you don't mind being packed in like sardines then this might be your place. The space they reserved for us was too small "you are at the maximum for this spot." The ground dipping to one side made it impossible to level the trailer. The small patch of grass we did have was the ONLY place to park our truck. We did have a picnic table that sat 3 feet from the trailer's steps. On the opposite side of the picnic table was a fire pit that seemed more like a fire hazard by the looks of the picnic table. Hands down the worst camp ground we've been to. read more

This is one of the nicer, if not the nicest, KOA I have stayed at. Everything is super clean, there are a ton of amenities, and the staff is very present but not overbearing. The pool is so nice! We played a ton of ping pong! They have pool, a ton of games, a fishing pond, air hockey, and a nice choice of sites. We tent camped in a nice level, shaded, pretty private spot. Also a well equipped camp store! We will be back! read more

Came into the campground on bikes in order to tent camp. We were happy to find a well kept campground, pool and very clean bathrooms and showers. The young staff were pleasant and a bit surprised to see 3 cyclists roll into the campground. At $42 it was a little expensive for 3 adults and 1 tent. Would have been nice to cool off in a river, but the pool was a good substitute. I recommended campgrounds, at least KOAs, offer a discount to touring cyclists because of the small footprint and minimal impact they make by carrying everything on bikes. Spread the idea if you're a cyclist. read more

Well maintained campground. The bathrooms are the nicest I have seen at a campground. Sites are level with large stone fire pits, but sites are close together with no separation with shrubbery or trees. Roosters crowing early in the morning. The campground was not full, yet they charged us extra to check in before 2:00. Trash is picked up at your site and firewood is delivered to your site. Friendly and helpful staff. Personally I had a great experience. Maybe because of the time of year and the place was basically empty. First off the lovely lady that Checked me in could not have been nicer. The grounds are beautiful and very wooded. The bathrooms were some of the cleanest and best functioning I have ever seen at a KOA. I can't wait to go back. Perfectly level spot too! read more

Second July 4th in a row we camped here and it certainly wasn't like the first. Grounds were not as manicured (grass growing tall between sites), some of the pool chairs were broken and not put off to the side so no one would use them, light over bathroom area out for 2 days before it was fixed, and no July 4th special activities for the kids like previous year. Also when called to make reservation felt very pressured to make it right then or we might not get a site only to find out that during our 4 day 3 night stay the campground remained about 1/2 empty. We were also told we had to reserve for minimum of 3 nights since it was a holiday but saw several campers there for only 1 night (did they pay for 3 nights and only stay for one? - I seriously doubt it). Store prices and site rates have certainly gone up in 1 year also. Our stay for a pop up camper was just about $60 a night - almost equal to the cost of some of the local motels and almost double what state parks charge. Will definately research our options before going back here especially since we found new campground about 10+ miles away that had more affordable rates. read more

I"m sorry to say that my family would have loved to visit this KOA, but I need to give it one star because of the pet policy. I recently booked our family vacation, but discovered a weight limit for pets. They allow 2 pets, 30lbs each, but we have 1 black lab that weighs 55 lbs. I contacted them about the reservation and they refused to allow 1 pet that is 55 lbs. This doesn't make any sense to me. This is terrible customer service. read more

Expensive for what you get. Back-in site goes for $50 plus tax. For that you get a gravel site that isn't close to level (3, 2x6's under the front wheels to get some semblance of level). There is Wi-Fi but NO internet! Campground staff says might be due to heavy use but otherwise unhelpful. Narrow 3 mile road to campground not big rig friendly. TV is analog. So if your set is digital all you get is a fuzzy picture unless you have your own satellite dish. Poison Ivy is everywhere. I have YET to find anything I like about this campground. read more

This place is the worst...came here to get away from the city on thanksgiving weekend. The staff decided this was prime time for leaf blowing...could have stayed home for that. When we asked the front desk when the leaf blowing would stop, they said "when it's done" then the staff came to our campsite and berated us for interrupting them at the front desk with our second inquiry as to when the leaf blowing would stop...0/10...would not recommend. Very nice campground! Love the shaded campsites they are spaced out further then lots of the koas we have been to. They offered free rock painting, coffee filter craft and ice cream social for the kids along with tie dye of you purchase or bring a shirt. The pool is small but my daughter really enjoyed it. This spot is a tucked away gem! Wooded sites, great fire pits, picnic tables and more privacy than most KOA's I've been too. We have stayed on two separate occasions and always find the grounds, pool, playground and bathrooms immaculately kept! This one is a keeper! read more

Very nice and well kept up campground. Very woodsy. Staff was very courteous. Had several activities for kids, including a juggling class. Also has a recently added doggie playground. Only complaint is that some of the spaces are very tight without much separation from your neighbor. read more

They charge for internet ( first 24 hr. free), no discount for retired military (many other KOA's provide the discount). Lots of large rocks lining roads, entry into parking spots (almost hit a very large one trying to park our 30' 5th wheel)-almost every space has rocks lining the entry (why I have no idea-maybe because they offer free rock painting as one reviewer stated!). We couldn't extend out awning completely because of trees. I spoke with a guy who had his windshield cracked in his 40' newer motor home, he discovered it and although the manager said she would take care of it, he was waiting for her to provide required information. He said he was going to contact the mgr. and see why she hadn't responded in a timely manner. Stay at Natural Bridge KOA-just 1 mile off the interstate (not 4 miles on windy hilly roads), large nice sites, wide roads, and NO LARGE ROCKS-includes discounts and FREE internet. This place should be renamed Rocky Road. read more

I would NOT recommend Harrisonburg / Shenandoah Valley KOA Campground. The campground itself was clean and well-kept, and the staff was (except for Monica) pretty friendly and pleasant to deal with. HOWEVER, this Monica...needs to either change careers so she is not dealing with the public or take a course in customer service. She is rude, aggressive, lies, and tried to milk our family out of extra pennies by making up accusations against us, even though the campground made well over a thousand dollars off of our family this week. She accused my family of "leaving human waste outside of our cabin" and threatened to charge me an extra $50 for the clean up...when I stated that my family would NOT do that, her response was "I don't know what to say, you rented the property" when I asked her if she found this waste in the locked cabin that only my family had access to or in a public area that ANYONE could access, her response was "that's a good point, but I am not reversing the charges". THEN I sent my Mom down to talk to her in person because she hadn't left the campground yet and she LIED to my Mom and said that the paper towel found near the waste was the same that was in my trash. REALLYYYYY!!! Considering that I was taught to leave a campsite the same as I found it, ALL of our trash had been collected and put in the dumpster at the front of the campgrounds, so unless she went dumpster diving...please tell me how she would know what paper towel we used? She also accused my cousin of ruining her property and ended up charging my Mom and Aunt for the damage. Keep in mind we had 20+ people staying at this campsite all week, and we used public areas for meals, cleaned up after ourselves thoroughly, never had a complaint about noise or abuse of property, and made sure we were respectful to the campers around us. Please DO NOT give these people another penny. They obviously need a crash course from Dale Carnegie. I will be posting this review and story on every possible site I can find...please pass the word along. In a day of social media, owners such as this need to understand that they cannot take advantage of the public and treat consumers poorly because WORD SPREADS and will eventually be the end of their business. read more

We've stayed here 6-8 times over the last 4 years and really enjoy the campground. Our most recent visit was July 11-July 14, after a thunderstorm dropped 6" of rain which knocked out power the staff checked on everyone to be sure all were OK. Power restored about 8 hrs after lost and everything continued as planned. My 6,4 and 1 year old granddaughters had a great time with the planned activities. Our campsite was large and level which was great for a toddling 1 year old. Rates are higher than last year,rest rooms and showers very clean, pool and play ground very nice. This was a very nice campground. Nice large, wooded space for our RV. Unfortunately we were not there long enough to enjoy the extras, big swimming pool, nice playground for the kids and even a fenced in area for your pets to run around without a leash. As a mom, the best was probably how clean the bathrooms and showers were. Highly recommend. read more
