Probably one of the most impressive department stores I've ever seen. They've got huge selections, unmatched by any other place. They've got the best brand names in about every category. The displays that they put together for Christmas are simply amazing. However, it's also a huge tourist trap, so you'll be fighting awful crowds everywhere you turn, and the prices will make you require a second mortgage. Seriously, I know they are selling movie-star-approved expensive name brands, but the prices seem marked up higher than they are elsewhere; AND THEN I remember that the price is in pounds and not dollars, so tack on another 50% (based on current exchange rates)!! read more

Harrods! Oh, how I love Harrods. It is a le must travel destination for me when I used to go to London on My Private Holiday all those years ago. I even did my Christmas shopping here for family and mates (meaning "friends") one year. All the haberdashery to choose from to say that this was Harrods of London, England, UK. I bought a couple of school kits for a couple of young cousins for future, much to the chagrin of their parents. Hopefully, they did use them when they were old enough. I still have my Harrods PVC shopping bags. And oh how I lived for the shortbread, Harrods shortbread. It was the most requested for one of my mum, one of my mates, and of course, yours truly! I loved patrolling around the Harrods Food Court. A smorgasbord and a feast for the eyes. Never mind not nipping a bite, a spot of tea, or having a sarnie. Just looking at all the food wares was like viewing art. The food was definitely a work of art to behold. And I just loved looking at the fashion, ultra high end. All those designers and such. What made me chuckle was that the fur department was temperature controlled, almost like a fridge. Well, this was the eighties at the time. Best part was that I did not have to pay the value added tax, VAT at a certain minimal llimt. I brought my receipts up to the VAT section get the tax removed and a cheque. Simple, fast and easy. I pursued VAT removal at other London shoppes. Certainly helped dealing with customs upon the return home to the states. To paraphrase Erin O.: It is huge, impressive and an experience. Major! I fell in love the moment I entered here! The decor was breath taking. After hearing so much about Harrods, I had to stop in here when I went to London. The store was beautifully decorated and the ambiance was regal. The beautiful art and rich vibrant colors were almost overwhelming. I enjoyed walking through the store and viewing the vast selection of clothes, jewelry, luggage and wares. Harrods is indeed a force to be reckoned with. I must admit while I was looking to buy myself a dress, there is no way I was going to pay the exorbitant prices. I stopped in knowing it was pricey but it was indeed worth the experiencing of window shopping. I am one that hates to window shop, but in this instance, it was warranted. This is a place that you MUST visit if in London. The art and statues alone are breath taking. To top it off, we had tea in the Georgian room and that was delightful. The Disney World of shopping experiences, this is much more a wonder to behold than somewhere to, say, pick up a new sweater or a set of dishes. Go instead to be blown away by the whimsical intricacies of the rooms The Egyptian Elevators?? We wanted to just keep riding up and down them, but we were going to be late for tea. There is, indeed, a touching memorial to Princess Di and Dodi Al Fayed at the bottom of the elevators, which is worth stopping by. If you feel the need to drop some pounds (oh man, no pun intended, seriously) you're money's best spent in the gift shop. Here you can purchase all kinds of Harrod's keepsakes. I've got a teal and blue canvas grocery bag that I still use for everything, so I feel like I can at least justify the twenty pounds it set me back. In addition, the toy department is a lot of fun if not completely exuberant. I can't imagine the child who's room is filled with these kinds of toys, but I'm sure I never want to meet him. Still - at any given moment there are several guys demonstrating all kinds of toys and inventions. The instant snow was a big hit with us - little crystals that, when covered in water fluff up into handfuls of "snow" - and we almost got nailed in the head by a flying helicopter which is always awesome. While we were fortunate enough to be invited to tea in Harrod's Georgian Room (I've never used the word scrumptious, but it seems apropos here - still, I've had more intricate and delectable teas in the past), another great place to pick up a snack is in the Harrod's food gallery. Every specialty item you can imagine (and some you've never heard of before) can be found here, although the bakery may be my favorite counter. I'm not a huge fan of window shopping in general, but I went into the Harrod's visit knowing I wouldn't be able to afford anything and that it was best to keep my pounds in my purse. OK - so Harrods is a MAJOR tourist trap. With over-the-top Egyptian decor throughout and a life-sized waxwork of Mohamed Al Fayed at the entrance, it feels like a Las Vegas version of Disneyland--for shoppers. However, it does have its charms. If you want access to a large breadth of designer labels, from food, to clothes to china, this is the place to go. It's not the carefully edited selection of obscure, up-to-the-minute collections you'll see at Selfridges but if you want to see everything a label has to offer it's worth having a look, especially during the sales. The pet department is completely naff but the toy department is fantastic. It's an extravaganza of posh dolls, teddy bears and expensive cars. This is also one of the last places in London you can buy the un-PC gollywog. Another really good reason to visit Harrods is the Krispy Kreme donut shop in the basement. Yes, Tesco sells Krispy Kremes but Harrods is the only place in London that I know of where you can buy them still warm. When the "hot" sign flashes on there's a line out the door. read more

Certainly the ability to get the VAT back on location is an advantage, but the amount of over-priced items makes it not always cost-effective to go to Harrods - I guess it depends of what you need to purchase, and whether you want to have the 'Harrods experience' (i.e. get lost in a huge department store that looks like a small city where lots of very helpful staff offer you help to navigate through an infinite smorgasboard of items to purchase). Perhaps not my cup of tea though I admit I like to go to Harrods 'eveny now and then' - particularly when looking for certian items or just for that type of experience. read more

Sorry, no. I just don't get the appeal of being in this stuffy, overcrowded store. It's loud, it's full of tourists and the staff are not particularly polite unless you show up dressed to the teeth in highly branded attire in a garish display of personal wealth. The one saving grace is the food court which always has delicious items stocked but good luck getting past the crowd of lurkers who have no intention of buying anything. I would love to stay and buy some cheese, meats and teas here but I just can't handle the hoards of people. The only reason I find myself coming here is to buy ostentatiously branded Harrods gifts for family or friends who have never come to London before and are in awe of Harrods' reputation. I guarantee that they would not feel the same way once they see what Harrods is really like. On the bright side my niece absolutely adores her Harrods teddy! I on the other hand did not adore the experience of fighting my way into and out of the store to get my hands on one. read more

This was definitely my favourite place to visit when I was a little girl and obviously old habits die hard but Harrods has changed and I cannot say it has changed for the better. Those of you who knew it in the 80s-late 90s know what I'm talking about...the Dress Circle, Harrods World on every floor, the pet department on the second floor, the Toy Kingdom on the 4th Floor, the book department that was much nicer and the Way-N on the 4th floor for teenagers fashion....ah I reminisce for those days. I remember when my parents used to bring me to Harrods and I was so excited to go to the Toy Kingdom which used to be on the fourth floor, occasionally get my haircut here, my parents would buy my birthday dresses from the fourth floor as well! There were not as many restaurants then... mainly the food halls, the Dress Circle on the first floor and then the Georgian Restaurant ofcourse on the 4th floor. The pet department used to have a talking parrot in the old days and it was on the second floor and I remember dragging my parents in to see it everytime we would visit. Not to mention when I used to drag them to the stationery in the kids dept for the Hello Kitty and Kerro Kerro Keroppi stationery!! They used to have the most unusual stuff you couldn't get anywhere else!! As time went on, of course this brought more restaurants mainly on the ground floor just past the fine jewellery department now where the Fine Watch department is...it used to be the pizzeria, the bakery, Morelli's Gelato and now all of these have moved up but the views are not as nice, who wants to be eating while overlooking luggage?! The pizzeria was nice as it was more open and you could overlook the street and passers-by admire the pizzas. I just feel that Harrods is not as personal and unique as it was before...yes you can get your beautiful pair of Louboutins and the newest Chanel or LV bag...but really what is that compared to the little unique random things that used to be sold there...since the super brands can be bought directly from the boutique anyway so it is not like Harrods is offering anything exclusive. Nevertheless, I still have a special place for it in my heart but that is solely because of the loyalty from the golden olden days...I am sad that when I have kids, they will not know the magic and excitement that I experienced here as a child. It is now just another department store that concentrates on selling the most random expensive things like body lotion in swarovski encrusted bottles...as if that is going to make my life better??!! read more

Seriously amazing place. They sell everything from runway designer fashions and fine furniture to touristy T-shirts and Hello Kitty Tokidoki luggage. And the foodhall itself is quite a marvel (tip - about an hour or so before closing you will see red 50% off signs pop up for various perishable food items in the food cases). And the 4th Floor there are three Disney sub-stores: a Disney Café, a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, and a Disney Store. read more

This place is definitely one of my best my favourite places to shop at when visiting London. You can find pretty much anything under one roof. It also makes it convenient to get the VAT back on location. This way you don't have to wait at long lines at the airport. It's often busy, so if you can't handle the push and pull by others I suggest you go in on a weekday. You get much better service then because the sales staff are less preoccupied with serving customers wearing the most expensive bag, watch, shoes, etc, and make time to help you. read more

I had heard so much about Harrods that probably it was somewhat inevitable that I would experience a mild anticlimax when visiting for the first time! Perhaps I went at a very busy hour... however it must be said I found what I was looking for (and more!). A bit more expensive than I would have thought also - but worth a visit! read more

Overall I was somewhat unimpressed after I visited Harrods on this occasion (May 2016) - the staff were very nice but somehow I found some of the items way overpriced compared to what you can get in nearby stores. I always stop by Harrods whenever in London, it's such a classy and iconic place, albeit very expensive. I always find a little something, something that's in my price range; and when I say little, I mean little...I've gotten mugs, headbands, T-shirts, etc...Just because they were from the Harrods super store. Hats off to Harrods for being one of the few retailers left that actually look out and care about their customers. It really is true that no request is too small for them. In a world of abysmal if non existent customer service it is a pleasant surprise to actually get some help from time to time, and if it is actually good customer service to boot, well, it feels like a special treat indeed. Upon leaving their shop last month, my shopping bag set off the security alarm. It happens, no harm, no foul. The security guard did a quick check of my receipt and bag and let me go. A common occurrence in many shops, it is inconvenient but not off putting. I thought nothing of the incident and forgot about it completely. Harrods did not. A month later I got a card in the mail apologising for my being put out that way, and offered me a shopping discount. I have to say, it made my day. That someone actually took the time to care, in this day and age... well it was downright touching. I DO appreciate the effort, thank you very much! Yes Harrods prides itself on being a luxury store, but it is nice to know they treat their customers like luxury as well. Amazing how good customer service restores your faith in mankind. I came here to purchase a new wallet from the LV store. The customer service was incredible for such a busy store. I wanted to also get my bag stamped with my initials but the associate told me I needed to come back during a week day. I returned the next day and was happily helped! Highly reccomend Harrods. Okay so I love this store! This is the shopping heaven for designer diva's, shopaholics and fab fashionistas.. They have EVERYTHING here and I mean EVERYTHING... from clothes, shoes, furniture, to an international food hall. Place is huge and the interior is amazing. One can easily spend half a day if not a whole day shopping here especially if one has beaucoup £££€€€$$$... Everytime I've been here I've had a great time and bought some great items - mainly clothes and shoes. I receive a Teddybear from Harrods almost every hear during the holidays as a gift and I love them. Everytime I am in London, I make it a point to come to Harrods to buy gifts for friends and family, it's always a delight to see their faces as they open up the signature green and gold bags from Harrods to reveal their surprise! read more

I have absolutely no problem if someone wants to abandon me here...seriously I can stay here happily getting lost in the various departments. While visiting London for the first time I was eagerly waiting stepping into Harrods and was not disappointed. My first thought when I walked in - I have died and gone to HEAVEN!! The many departments reminds me of a maze and makes it overwhelming to take in at once but ultimately worth it. It was crowded of course but not so crowded that I wasn't able to manuever my way into what Luxury goods I wanted to check out. We tried using the map and still got lost but thankfully lots of associates were around to guide you where you wanted to go. Naturally I had to buy a few things just to be able to say "Oh this?? I got it at Harrods" & my family loved the goodies I brought back. Lots of food options but we ended up at this little café on the ground floor and ordered panini's. It was pricey as expected but fun to people watch. Also, when going here take a few moments and visit the Princess Diana & Dodi memorial... Was sad to leave but looking forward to my next visit :) read more

Every time I wander in to Harrods I have the same thought, 'Is Muhammad Al Fayed on crack?'. If he's not then there really isn't any excuse for the tacky, tacky, golden shrines to Ancient Egypt that he has positioned everywhere. The Sphinx that sits proudly at the top of the double escalators is a particular eye sore and if nothing else it's just plain weird. This is an internationally renowned department store that houses some of Britain's best designers and yet the interior looks like the set for 'The Mummy Returns XIII'. Thankfully Al Fayed's plans to place three giant pyramids across the roof top (I kid you not), have been rejected by the council on the grounds of good taste. Still, I can't help but wonder what that would have looked like... Having said all this, Harrod's food hall is probably one of the most perfect places on earth. You know what... I hate Harrods. Yeah, I said it. I've never bought anything here, and never plan to. But when people come to visit me in London, they have to see it. And I always sum it up this way... "It's just a department store... on crack." And rather than walking through the place thinking we can purchase glitter covered trees and plaster casts of Egyptian statues, we walk through it like a museum. Take a deep breath. BREATHE. Okay, do that whenever you're overwhelmed. Now, enter Harrod's. Harrod's is "an experience." I suspect that only Yanks will "get" this... but it's as though Las Vegas produced one of their "upscale" malls in London with "local flavour. It has an almost "carnival" feel to it. It is large, bewildering, packed, and the layout is confusing. There are elements of a theme park in there, too. In short, I don't like it. I've been twice in twenty years. It's "too much." However, I don't care for malls and generally eschew shopping. If you LIKE shopping, this may be your Mecca. It's a madhouse... but, then again, the average shopping mall is "a bit much" for my tastes. This is "mall times seven." Of course, everything is high-quality. However, it has a mass-market appeal (e.g., they have super-automatic Jura espresso machines but NO quality manual machines). YMMV. read more

The food market is by far the stand-out. I guess when money is not an object then you can buy here regardless but the same bottles of single malt / wine in their cellar is about 30% more. I went in looking for a Glencairn glass but they didn't have any in sock which was surprising enough. The guy at the counter was very helpful, called around the other departments etc so he really went above and beyond. The last time I was in Harrods which was a few years ago I remembered it more fondly. I also have the commend the remove your backpack policy, nothing as bad as getting a bang of one of these or worse still some of the high priced merchandise ending up on the floor. read more

Oh Harrods you have become a tourist destination for visitors to London. While the saying we sell everything at Harrods might not hold true (I guess one online retailer comes close). Luxury under one roof is an understatement. Lots of top brands are all vying for attention. Even though I was there during the big mid year sale I didn't partake as my trip was not for vacation or shopping. I did roam around little bit and especially enjoyed the basement floors with all the amazing foods. La Maison Du Chocolate is worth mentioning here as they do sell a lot of sugar free chocolates which are somewhat hard to get. So were the macaroons from Laduree which are the best I have had anywhere. I wasn't planning on cooking anything but did spend some time in the grocery stores. My oh my what a sight morrels mushrooms the size of a palm, Bresse Chicken, gorgeous looking steaks, fruits etc etc. In the food court we tried the place that sells chicken noodle soup which was awesome. One of the day we went for the champagne bar there and it was amazing as well. I tried a chocolate sundae on one occasion and it was decadent though I forgot the name of the store. North America has its share of luxury stores but this one takes the crown worldwide. There is no other store like Harrods. read more

Worth a stop inside if you can make it past the hustle and bustle. Some people have a tendency to congregate and not pay attention to where they are walking. Any girl that loves to shop - even a little bit - is in utopia upon entering the doors to Harrod's. Even if you don't have the pounds to drop on even a simple t-shirt, it's just fun to walk around and look at all the beautiful things. Bypass the crazy crowds and make your way to the top floor. You can work your way down and when you've had enough, you can make your exit. Leave the credit cards at home, otherwise you might suffer from a case of buyer's remorse. Don't get me wrong, if you have the money to spend - go ahead! But if you're like me, you'll feel better about yourself when you avoid dropping dough on a Harrod's t-shirt just to prove you made it to mecca. I can't say if there's a better time to go than others because this is a destination for so many travelers, so I have a feeling it's always busy. read more

Beautiful department store! Just prepare to do a little more browsing than spending as it is very expensive as this complex focuses on high end fashion. Breathtaking to walk around, very large, even the bathrooms are a spectacle. Many tourists come here to visit. Outside you have some more shops: Top shop, Zara, and Gap to name a few. read more

Silly me. Silly silly me. My husband and I were having a wonderful time in this wonderful city and I thought it would be a great idea to buy a souvenir watch at Harrods. I always come home with a souvenir watch whenever we travel somewhere; so I had to get my watch at Harrods! Bwaaaaaaaaahahahahahahaha! Hahahahaha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Oh boy! *slaps knee* HaaaaaaaaaHahahahaha! Lawd Have Mercy! Hahahahahahaha! *spits* Ha ha ha! I sincerely had no idea just how expensive Harrods is. The least expensive watch I could find was just over £1,000! Most hovered between the £5,000 to £10,000 range. I felt like I should hide my $250 Fossil in shame as we window-shopped. It was a real eye-opener. This is where the rich shop. So, no watch from Harrods for me ... but we did wander around a bit. It was fascinating to see how the 1% spend their money. We didn't buy a souvenir at Harrods but we did enjoy lunch in the Harrods Terrace restaurant (see the separate review). I say it's worth a visit because there are some gorgeous retail spaces, outrageous merchandise, and you can probably afford to at least grab a bite there. read more

I love it here! The staff are polite and humourous, I go here for special occasions with girlfriends and boyfriends I need to test. One guy tried to eat them with a knife and fork - didn't last long needless to say- sooo embarrassing! I go for 6 oysters each and half a bottle of Harrods' own champers - works out at £25 per head. This place is filled with lots of tourists, myself being one of them, all looking for random things to buy. They have fancy restroom you can check out and also look at the cool decor near the escalators while you're there. It's pretty close to the V&A and Natural History Museum so you can stop by if you're around. read more

If I ever move to London, you'll find me here every day. It's so easy to get lost in this place - it is freakin' incredible. It's a large department store - but that's just it - it's LARGE! I can't even explain it. Toys, furniture, electronics, food court, even a pet store... and let's not forget to mention the floors and floors of clothes, purses, shoes and accessories. Love the Egyptian Hall that you can admire as you're going up the escalators, and as a Princess Diana fan, a very nice memorial to her and Dodi. Incredible place. Everything screams luxury . Unfortunately, we only got to see a fraction of it because hubby wasn't feeling well. Thought it was faking it at first to get me out of there, but he wasn't. We only did a quick walk through. Attention all Shopaholics: Shopping at Harrods is "The" Shopping paradise in the world. I recently visited Harrods in London (I had to list Harrods location as SF to share it with all of you - you know the whole "Yelp only in US thing"...yo Jeremy fix that one please!). 5 acres (seriously) of every designer you can imagine. You can browse by designer or by specific item, such as shoes. The service is unbelieveable and, Oh! if you are famous or shop like you are, you can spend - i mean - shop on their private floor where nobody will bother you (hello Madonna - recent visitor apparently). This is a must stop if you visit London. Wait - there's more! I went to the Harrods food court which should be renamed Buckingham Palace of Fine Food - you can purchase any food your heart desires or sit and dine till you go into a food coma. The food court feels like Andronicos meets Neiman Marcus and you can browse foods by section - e.g. an entire hall dedicated to chocolate and then a bar at the end to sample. Interesting note: On the basement floor there is a Princess Di tribute which shows the supposed engagement ring and story of the former couple.
