There is a Pep Band, and cheerleaders. These kids play their hearts out in front of a mostly empty arena. Go and have a blast !!

The air conditioning is insufficient. The seats are so close together on the floor, I was literally wedged between the two people on either side of me, and I am not a big person. There are no less than four security checkpoints to get to the floor; from soup to nuts I was in one line or another for 40 minutes. Two of the security people I had to deal with were complete jerks and totally unprofessional. The cherry on the sundae is that everything is vastly overpriced, from the tickets to the restaurants to the concessions. I went there recently after a fourteen year hiatus, and realized almost immediately why it had been so long since the last time. Fool me once, fool me twice, I suppose it's my fault it took five or six times to really appreciate how lousy the Mohegan Sun concert experience is, but I can now promise I'll never make that mistake again.

I only came across the West Hartford Art League by chance through an event posting, and I have been an avid follower and supporter since. WHAL offers great classes for youth and adults, for beginners and experts. There are also lots of awesome showcases of locals' work - including some of my own photos once or twice - of different media. They always have a nice opening reception - often with free food and drink - which is a really nice touch and a way to meet others. Separately, I have also come here for a few mostly food events, like the CT Eats Out supper club inaugural event. There's really something for everyone here, and I am thankful to have found out about WHAL. Consider yourself now informed!

I really enjoyed getting the chance to view some local art by some really talented folks! Now that this location is on my radar, I am going to be checking in so see what other events they host. I heard that they also have done photography showings in the past. The venue itself is a tad tough to find just going by google maps, but once you realize where it is, parking is super easy. It's small but cozy, well laid-out, and adorable. I found the atmosphere for the event dinner to be extremely charming, and the staff were amazing. I'll be back, WeHa Art League. Keep doing what you're doing!

Very relevant to today's times, politics, current issues, cultural issues from the 1950s to today, local Hartford events and a little Mark Twain thrown in to boot! The cast was so energetic, enthusiastic and funny! Everyone did a fabulous job. I let my emotions flow with the show, laughed and nearly cried too. It really pulled at my heart strings. Hart Beat ensemble is not to be missed! And best of all free, safe parking across the street. People with mobility issues can easily be dropped off at the door. A small theatre with a big presence. Small concession table. And tickets only $25 with a policy that no one is ever turned away for lack of funds.

Just about everything you want to see downtown is here: free museums, historic buildings, plus a big dose of music, shopping and food trucks. You can really speed along, too, going from a grounded hot air balloon to the top of the Travelers building to watching bands in under an hour. Plus, the Governor's Footguard roams downtown in their wool reds with marching band. Kid-friendly activities abound, from face-painting and sidewalk chalk to giant puppets roaming the park. Word of advice: park at your closest Fast Trak station so you don't have to bother with parking downtown. Way smoother experience. Free Museums The Wadsworth Atheneum, the Connecticut Science Center, the Butler-McCook House & Garden and the Old State House. Plus, the Bushnell stages 20-minute selections of their current show on an outdoor stage (we saw two numbers from Cinderella, which was impressive to hear up close and personal, even if it was sans costume). Don't pass up the free antique carousel in Bushnell Park, which is worth the embarrassment of imaginary riding next to four-year-olds to touch these gorgeous hand-painted horses while the ancient Wurlitzer plays piano. An easy highlight. Free Music & Dance Music is being made wherever you turn. We caught the Hartford Steel Symphony playing Calypso-inspired tunes outside of the Old State House. Two main stages, one in Bushnell Park and one on Gold Street, play host to musicians, dancers and other acts. Inside the Wadsworth, Hart students arrived en mass to take over the Great Hall, and the Connecticut Lyric Opera belted out selections from a Gertrude Stein opera over the entry balcony. Food Trucks The food trucks converge along Bushnell Park for easy pickings. We saw artisanal grilled cheese at the Whey Station, fresh guacamole at Agave Canteen, pressed sandwiches at Toasted, vegan cakes at Amor and the Ben & Jerry's truck. Open Historic Buildings Wander City Hall or tour the original Tiffany glass windows at Center Church, which comprise their own 14-window museum. Take the elevator 34 floors up to the top of the Travelers Building for scenic panoramas, or climb the spiral staircases to the top of the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Arch, that fairy castle arch peaking out above the trees in Bushnell Park. The ancient burying ground on Gold Street makes peaceful if eery spot to rest your tired feet.
