He listens to my concerns and works with me when it come to treatments. I hate taking meds, so he humors my numerous questions about side effects and what ifs. Dear Dr. Sokolow, I'm sorry to inform you that we will no longer be needed your services for our medical relief. We've found that your lack of bedside manner tainted our experiences in your office. We also were not aware that having run triathlons was a requirement to even have a conversation with you. Let us not focus on the negative--afterall there were some good times. How about that time we called in and needed a last minute appointment? That was pretty great. And the fact that you accepted our insurance so readily won't be soon forgotten. But I'm afraid that such moments will forever be overshadowed by your suspicious behavior in regards to getting actual medical treatment. I mean, how dare we ask for your help in diagnosing pain?! Who did we think you were--a doctor?! Unfortunately, our love for you could not withstand the constant nagging and accusations. Having you dance around the accusation of us being drug dealers or users was just a little too much to handle and I just hold a grudge too well. That being said, perhaps your future relationships will fare better if you manage to actually focus on diagnosing the problem in front of you, rather than encouraging triathlons or accusing people of trying to get some extra drugs from you. I never review anyone on Yelp but I read this ridiculous 2008 review and it has stuck in my mind over the past 3 years as I have gone to Dr. Sokolow and consistently referred others to him. Each providing the best of reviews. It's a sad day when drug thirsty petulance can even slightly tarnish the reputation of someone that still practices personal, old school medicine. Dr. Sokolow is efficient, direct, to the point and will not prescribe you some sort of nonsense just because you have seen it advertised on TV. Need a painkiller? Want some testosterone? Not your guy. Want someone that will run a health screen on your entire body and give you straightforward medical advice without making you wait for an hour. If you like the thought of exercise and how to maximize your health care to maximize your enjoyment of life through a healthy lifestyle, exercise and promptly, completely and efficiently identifying and addressing your acute healthcare concerns then this is the guy. read more

Dr. Sokolow is in an office on Weslayan now and not the Westheimer location just for anyone wondering. I am very torn on how to write this review, and may or may not be worth sharing at all. Pro's: I was able to get an appointment on very short notice, location and parking is great, he is thorough, has a sense of humor. Cons: I appreciate him being so thorough however, I went in for what turned out to be bronchitis and he spent the majority of my appointment (about 45 minutes) to talk about the fact that I'm overweight. He went on and on about the ways I need to change my lifestyle, reasons to lose weight, ways to change my bad habits, how I'm a bad role model to my child, and he even touched on the reasons I have acne. The last 5 minutes of my appointment he spent giving me my actual diagnosis, prescriptions with very little explanation, and collecting my payment. In the end, I did get what I went in for plus I also came out with plenty of guilt and shame. I'm not oblivious to the fact that I need to lose weight and exercise more, I'm an American after all, it was just such a strong lecture from someone who isn't my nutritionist, dietitian, personal trainer, and/or life coach on a day I was a little more concerned about just being able to breathe normally again. Don't get me wrong, he's a good doctor. I will potentially go back perhaps after I've lost 15-25 pounds and am fully committed to a stable exercise regime. Pros: He answers his own phone. I was able to get an appointment for the next day. The registration was quick and easy. Cons: Listening to Dr. Harry Sokolow talk on and on about his personal life and politics. I told him that I am not into politics and I kept trying to steer the conversation back to me and the reason for my visit, yet he kept steering the conversation back to politics and his personal life. He told me that I should not vote for Donald Trump and that Donald Trump's people are racists. There were several uses of the word crackerhead. My prescription was written incompletely according to the pharmacist. I suffered more with the symptoms that I had come to him for help with in the first place (I could not get the needed prescription filled). He reneged on my treatment plan. read more

I am very happy I found Dr. Sokolow. I have used him as my primary physician for at least 5 years now, and I wouldn't dream of changing. He is always helpful in getting you squezed in if you need to see him right away, and he does not give you medication you don't need I am surprised to see the negative reviews here, but I can only speak for myself and my wife. I have been going to Dr Sokolow for 8 years. He is very thorough and attentive. Half the time you call, he actually answers and he doesn't have a nurse do any of your exam. I'vea had appt that lasted 15 minutes and I've had them that last an hour. I've never felt like he's rushing me through like most practices. Now, to address the negative reviews, he is very quirky. Sometimes I almost things he's practicing his stand up comedy routine. I think its refreshing compared to some of the stuffy Dr's offices I've been to in the area. And as the previous reviewer noted, he is very into marathons and triathlons. Is that a bad thing that a Dr is into physical fitness? He's very upfront about how important physical fitness is and at one point told me I needed to lose weight. At first it hurt my feelings but he was right. I appreciated his honesty. Dr. Sokalow is a great physician, he is very honest and does as much as possible for his patients in the office, before letting you leave. He's not the kind of Dr. that will spend 15 min. with you and run you out of the office before answering all your questions. He does encourage people to be healthy and exercize as much as possible, as any Dr. should. He does this because he and his wife have completed many marathons and 10k's throughout the years. He is proud of them but doesn't gloat or anything negative. (I don't understand why Cory-previous person to write a review, is so offended by this...? I'm sure there was some miscommunication there. As Dr. Sokalow can be quite a jokester!) He also has given me an appointment last minute several times, meaning Fridays or just before a holiday. I know he truly cares about his patients because he doesn't just give you a bunch of medication just to get you out the door. He asks you many questions to see what your symptoms are. He has a great sense of humor and is a bit quirky, but I think that's cool. I didn't know he was a triathlete until I mentioned about how I got injured from training for a marathon. Just saw Dr. Sokolow today for a complete physical. I've been seeing him for a few years now. I really like his no-nonsense attitude, and the fact that he is extremely thorough in his exams. He takes the time to answer any and all of your questions. He's even understanding of my "needlephobia", and made today's required shot (tetanus) a quick and painless one. I highly recommend him. Doctor Sokolow is an excellent physician. If you want to abuse your body and get your hand held this is not your doctor. He expects patients to take responsibility for their health and well being and he will be there to help. This is an old fashion doctor. He does it all himself. He is straight and to the point does not beat around the bush and you and in and out. He will take as little or as much time as you need. Dont go to him if you are sensitive or want someone to pad what they are saying...I am a bit overweight and he let me know. I liked how direct he is and to the point. I agree with MarthaAnn...he's very straight and to the point. He's the only doctor I've had that actually did a full check-up on me rather than just listen to my complaints, look at me, and then prescribe me crap that doesn't work. He does like to joke around, but since when is trying to get a patient to laugh such a bad thing? And since when is trying to get your patients to be more physically fit such a bad thing either? Lord knows he gets on to me about drinking enough. :-) He's always quick to get you seen and doesn't waste your time. He'll even try to help you over the phone to avoid having to come in and waste your time and co-pay. Harry Sokolow came in on a Saturday to treat my boyfriend for a cold. After that, any time I need to see him, he'll make time. He is cut-to-the chase, and I like that in a doctor. Dr. Sokolow goes above and beyond as a doctor. He listens, he assesses patient priorities and he acts fast--- sometimes dealing with the bureaucracy himself. I called him for the first time when I was having a medical emergency and he immediately squeezed me in for an appointment a couple hours later. When I met with him, he did a thorough check-up, and made sure I got an appointment with a specialist. He also had good humor that did not minimize your situation but put a bit of comfort in the process. I went to him with my husband and both of us talked about how people leaving his office had an extra spring in their step. Sokolow is smart, a tough talker-- he'll say it like it is-- and a fast actor. I think he went beyond what he needed to do as my doctor, and for that I'm very appreciative. Dr. Sokolow is NOT for the faint of heart. He doesn't have that "small town doctor" bedside manner. He doesn't have time for BS and, thankfully, doesn't shovel any. I came in for a small problem and he spent an hour with me discussing other issues I was having. Try finding that at your local chain medical facility. Would I recommend him to everyone I know? I found Harry Sokolow to be a highly intelligent doctor who not only helped me with my regular cold and sinus junk but who also has dramatically assisted my husband who has this terrible thing called cyclic vomiting syndrome. My husband is now managing the syndrome since there is not a cure. Harry has become a friend over the years and I recommend him to all my friends and each one has said how happy they are with him as a physician. He has this great sense of humor that puts patients at ease. He takes great care of himself so that pretty much tells me he not only talks the talk but he walks the walk of good health. I like Dr Sokolow better than any Dr I have ever had previously. Let me qualify that by saying I never liked the soft spoken sugar coated mannerisms of most doctors and you will not get that in any form from Sokolow who likes to speak in plain English. I can understand that isn't for those who expect long and reassuring preambles to every piece of medical advice. Dr. Sockalow assesses the patient as a human. He takes his time; he gives solid referrals. His diagnoses are clear, and his explanations are thorough. He does all this with a quirky sense of humor that can rub some people the wrong way, but this is his practice. No nurses, no interns, no secretary -- this man is on top of things.
