So I agree with the reviews on here that Dr. Horsefield is knowledgeable. I don't think that can be argued. What I don't appreciate is when medical practitioners get offended when you ask questions, or challenge theories when it comes to your own health. It is my body and my life, I think every patient should ask questions and challenge conventional theories. I have a thyroid issue. I am trying to find ways to heal it. I have been seeing Dr. Horsefield for maybe 5 years now, and have noticed passive aggressiveness before... but what I recently experienced is clearly unacceptable. I saw him for my regular annual appointment 3 months ago. My TSH levels were too high, so I got on some thyroid supplements and we retested about 6 weeks later. The results came in and the TSH levels were too low. I have since readjusted my medication and sent him an email politely asking if he could order the bloodwork to retest my levels so I can ensure i am now healthy and found the right balance. His response was callous. I have attached a photo with the passive aggressive response, where he makes it clear that he wont put the test in the system because he doesn't get paid for "answering emails, ordering tests, reviewing tests, communicating test results and maintenance of records" ..... REALLY? Aren't those tasks associated with being a doctor? I would be happy to pay him, for me it isn't about the money at all. In addition, clearly SOMEONE is getting paid when I order these lab tests because I'm charged thousands of dollars for them. All I need though is the bloodwork.... and he doesn't have availability for 2 months!?! I'm extremely disappointed that someone in the healthcare field is so much more concerned about their wallet than their patients health. Also if he wanted to charge me a processing fee that is fine, but his solution is clearly not in my best interest to wait 2 months and potentially do irreversible damage to my body. read more

Dr. Matthew Horsfield is really funny, and seems to be a very good doctor. One major issue is that when I was experiencing severe abdominal pain, I had difficulty getting in touch with him to schedule an appointment or receive a call from his nurse. The whole experience was really frustrating considering they have an electronic messaging system for doctors called My Chart. Dr. Horsfield was very apologetic about the whole experience. When I needed pain medicine, he was able to provide a refill. He also made attempts on my behalf to contact the specialist regarding my pain. That is all. For now, anyway. read more

I recently visited Dr Horsfield for a routine visit and he was great! He spent a lot of time in the room with me and wasn't rushed at all. That is hard to find these days. He was also very helpful with the questions I had and referrals that I needed. The office is nice as well. There was not a long wait and the parking garage was easy to deal with. Dr. Horsfield has been my Doctor now for several years and I tell you he is the very best that I have ever seen and in 84 years I have seen a few. I made a big mistake by moving from a home that was very close to the Baylor Clinic and now I have to drive 50 miles through Houston's traffic but I'm still doing it and will as long as I can make the drive, which unfortunately may not be much longer. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I was a first time patient in need of a yearly physical and tune up. I have never had a family doctor take as much time as Dr. Horsfield did to truly understand me-my history, lifestyle habits, my specific disease risk factors...I could go on. He made screening recommendations that were very reasonable and specific or me (not a battery of tests just because everyone my age should have x,y,z test done). All this and I was out the door in less than 1 hour. The office is super efficient and utilizes electronic medical records more than any other doctors office I've ever been to. Oh, and their web based medical records system is a huge perk. For instance, once the doctor has reviewed your bloodwork, it's released to you to view with the doctors comments. I got all my results within 1 week with his comments! The long and short-if you're looking for someone who will take the time to understand you as an individual, give you knowledgeable and realistic recommendations-give Dr. Horsfield a try. read more

I found this doctor on Yelp, and I'm sure glad I did. I am new to Houston and was nervous about finding a new GP, but all worries were put aside as soon as I walked in his door. As a part of Baylor Family Medicine, the reception staff were very nice and I was seen immediately. I had concerns about some problems I was having, but he answered all of my questions and I've never felt better. A++ for this doc! He took the time to get a full history and he wrote everything down. As an added bonus, I can email him anytime with future questions and he will email me the report he wrote during the visit. Highly recommended! read more

Dr. Horsfield is the best doctor I have ever had. He listens, is concerned, and explains all in a serious yet funny way. I recently had an ankle injury and called to see if they could squeeze me in. Not only did they, but I also had xrays and was out of there in one hour. I never feel rushed when I see him which means alot, especially when you have been trained by previous doctors not to ask questions, only listen to their brilliance. I went for the annual physical that I had been procrastinating for a couple years. He was very thorough, informative and laid back. The app for your iphone/droid is really cool, you can see your reports and the Docs comments. The parking is free and pretty easy to get in and out of. read more

I took my 87 year old mother for her doctor's appointment today. This was my first meeting with Dr. Horsfield. I love my mom. She exhibits all of the characteristics of a previously strong and passionate woman who is now 87. I went to see Dr. Horsfield when I was having problems with an injured wrist last year, and I am absolutely delighted with him. He listens carefully to my descriptions of my health care problems, and he takes extensive notes. I do research in the health care field, and I am impressed by how Dr. Horsfield makes recommendations based on current medical literature. It's clear that he reads up constantly on recommended guidelines. Baylor Family Medicine works uses an electronic medical record, so it was strange at first watching Dr. Horsfield type his notes into a PC while I was talking. But the nice thing is that he also goes back through and reviews what's already been entered, so that he gets a full picture of my health conditions. I also liked the fact that when he emails me test results, he sends me a prompt response if I have followup questions. read more

Dr H is the business. His bedside manner is awesome, He even gets my mother (mentally disabled) to smile. I recommend him to any and everyone. I have transitioned my whole family to him. We live pretty far from the office, but he is so pleasant I refuse to try to see anyone closer to where I live. I have been seeing him for almost 5 years now....I think. He takes interest in your everyday life, as that gives him greater insight on your condition and things that may affect it. I LOVE this guy. He is also not bad on the eyes....Always a plus. Dr Horsfield is a 10 star doctor. I've known him for numerous years through his treatment of my mother. I have always been impressed with him more so than any other doctor. My mother is in her 80s and he treats her with kid gloves and can get her to do anything. That's major!!! Recently I became his patient. We went through my history and he shared his thoughts. I felt as comfortable as if I had been seeing him for years. Dr. Horsfield is very knowledgable about everything. He amazes me sometimes. He's also funny and personable. Dr. Horsefield is special. Go see him. Or don't! He's so special you are torn between singing his praises and keeping him all to yourself. I go to him a haggard mess sometimes, and like a child that has just discovered that bad attention is better than no attention at all, he makes you want to profess your medical issues over and over again "i think i'm gonna die soon, i just know i'm gonna die soon, gonna die! like tomorrow maybe" just to see the genuinely concerned look on his face. He is a bit of an anomaly among medical professionals today, he allows you to leave his office after an hour long visit without pushing xripts. He thoroughly assesses the situation and tries to conceive of the best possible solution suited to your needs, however idiosyncratic they may be. I even told him of my mistrust of the FDA, pharmaceutical companies, and basically the entire medical industry and he assured me that there are options for me outside of those systems though he is primarily allopathic. All other doctors... take note... sit in on a Dr. Horsefield consultation. Not that you can learn compassion, astute awareness, or wisdom, but it wouldn't hurt for you to try to emulate it.
