I guess like a lot of people visiting Venice the idea of taking a drink or two at Harry's Bar crops up in conversation at some point during your trip. After a bit of debate and a bottle of wine with dinner we decided to visit last Friday night. After it making it past the doorman (watch out there is a dress code here which goes something like we don't like the look of you so you are not coming in) despite wearing jeans I was surprised at the cosy, unassuming space. A few stools around the bar and possibly no more than 10 or so tables for folk who were having a bit of snackage with their cocktails. We were very lucky arriving at 10pm as a couple of young ladies vacated their stools at the bar so we quickly hopped aboard, ordered a very expensive Martini and Bellini (both pre made) and surveyed the scene. For me the people watching is why a visit to Harry's is worth the cash ladies who have seen far too much Botox, ageing lotharios with their martini soaked partners and an occasional sighting of the beautiful and the dammed would sum up the crowd on our visit. Great stuff we ordered up another round. Whiskey sour for me and a gin fizz for B the barman engaged us in conversation and thanked us for having requested a drink which he actually had to make to order. Fortunately it was by now 11pm and that's closing time unless you are having food. I was having fun watching how the other half live and this could have got seriously expensive if the bar had opened late. We paid just under 80EUR for our 4 drinks and tumbled out the side door in search of a cheaper nightcap, well pleased with our one and only visit. read more

Wonderful experience. Began with a bellini, then freshly made minestrone soup. Had three large tube pasta with fresh tomatoes and mozzarella cheese balls...wonderfully tasty and the dessert cakes are amazing. Harry even came by to check on us. Staff is very attentive. read more

If there's a negative star, this is what it deserves! We hd reservations for 8 people and were made to wait 30 mins, told our table was ready only to be lead up to the second floor to the manager who said they don't have anything available! So, we were told everyone has to go to the legendary Harry's Bar, so we went. The bar area was packed and we were unable to sit or even stand comfortably. The room is small, mobbed with people, and stuffy. We decided to stay for dinner, as were were advised there was more room upstairs. I ordered their famous Bellini, which tasted like the same Bellini I had in another restaurant that was in a bottle (pre-made). The dinner menu did not offer many choices but what we did eat was very good and also very expensive. I would say there was not one entree under $40 Euro. The wait staff were friendly. I guess try it for the experience. We were told famous people come here although we did not see any. Food was good, drinks were average, expensive, crowded, and ambiance a little stuffy and an older crowd. read more

My husband's trip to Venice wouldn't have been complete without a stop at Harry's. It was a little difficult to find; we walked past a couple of times before we noticed it. We should have done some research before we went, because it was very pricey - 20 euros for a bellini. The atmosphere is fine, but it doesn't feel right when you're in Venice and don't have the option to sit outside or even enjoy a view of the city. My wife and I stopped in for a bellini and martini. The total was over 40 Euros and both drinks were tiny. The waiter was borderline rude or at best indifferent. I'm sure this was once a good place to go in Venice. No more. It's now just a tourist trap. read more

Came here from a personal recommendation - will make sure to never speak to this alleged "friend" again. Decided to dine and was extremely disappointed. Ordered octopus salad, was served imitation crab meat and 4 pinto beans - YUM! The main course was papardelle, saffron and bacon. This looked like velveeta slop. Unfortunately, velveeta would've been more palatable than the papardelle I was served. The waiter nearly forced dessert down my throat - no, just the pricey check please. That's another thing - a lot of these reviews say Harry's is "overpriced". This was not overpriced, it was THREE times the normal price of what it should be. Sure the Bellini was tasty but it's €21 and only 4 ounces so again that is "overpriced". If you must come here, just sit at the bar and order one Bellini. Don't do yourself any other disservices. read more

Every time we visit Venice we enjoy our Bellini's at this special place. Yes, it is full of tourists...However, the customer service is awesome, we love to watch the bartenders make the drinks and everyone is friendly. Not much of an aesthetic atmosphere, but perfect for a drink or two and then off to explore this amazing city. Can't wait to visit the location in Roma later this year. read more

We thought we just HAD to come here for a drink while in Venice. It was 5:10PM and we walked in wearing shorts after a full day of touring. The unfriendly staff made it "quite clear" that shorts were "not permitted past 6:00PM." That should have been my first clue to turn and run -- you can't even say "welcome" FIRST? Such arrogance. We ordered their "famous" Bellinis. At $30US EACH, you would think they would be fabulous and plentiful. WRONG! I think I've had more NyQuil out of a plastic cup -- one gulp and the whole thing was gone -- which would be fine for a fourth of the price, but given the complete lack of atmosphere (it feels like you are in a grade school classroom), this experience was akin to throwing $60 out the window. In fact, the look of the place was so utterly ho hum, I'm still wondering why they made such a fuss about wearing shorts? For all those tourists who think you just HAVE to go Harry's Bar, trust me on this, don't bother. (P. S. We were long gone before 6:00PM . . . ). read more

I would not recommend this place for dinner. Prices are significant and food is mediocre. It gets so very crowded that feels claustrophobic. I had a famous Bellini and pappardelle with saffron. However, I would recommend going by early afternoon for simply drink, including bellini . read more

One of the worst experiences I've ever had in a highly rated restaurant. We were excited to dine at this fine restaurant that ordinated carpaccio and the Bellini. So my lifetime Bellini tax is well and truly paid. Listed as one of those Venice "experiences" you're happy to blindly succumb to. IMHO it was a decent Bellini but the lazy ass suave suited staff couldn't have been bothered to shake the drinks by hand. Got some old busted magimix thing to do it for him. I went to Harry's bar with my wife for a drink and decided to have dinner as well. My drink was an old fashion. The drink was VERY small and was ok. I have personally made better! My wife ordered the Bellini. That was a good drink but again, VERY small. Then came dinner. I ordered the sea bass. TERRIBLE!!! This is a really bad rendition of fish sticks and they are priced incredibly high for such a terrible dish. 77 euro the night we went. I thought for that price it would be amazing. WRONG! Paper thin fish strips in batter. It was dry and I had to use a lot of tarter sauce to get them down. YUCK!!! My wife ordered the risotto with asparagus that had no detectable asparagus in it. The taste was just ok. The greeting was warm and inviting but the waiter was not. Snobby and pretentious is the nicest way to put it. I wouldn't eat here again for free! I find it hard to believe anyone would ever give this anything above one star, and that's only because of the history. Peek in and take a quick look, but then do yourself a favor and go. (P.S. I went in 2013, on my first visit to Venezia and was .. disappointed. I do realize that it's hard to be a legend and almost impossible to live up to the stories. But I went in aware of this. The servers seemed pained to greet another customer. I sat at the bar, prepared to brighten their day, if I could. It wasn't to be. They visibly winced when I ordered a Bellini and I'm afraid I winced when I saw that it was poured from a pitcher sitting out on the counter (I can understand pre-mixing for a crowd, but leaving it out?). So I drank my one and left for more welcoming territory (the bar at the Gritti Palace came through!). My next visit was the following year and, mindful that bad days happen, I went hopefully back to Harry's. It was more crowded this time, and I was at a table (seating a single at a 4-top just makes no sense, and I enjoy perching at the bar, but...). I had a grand time chatting with neighbouring tables, but again, service was grudging and the provender indifferent. I tried, but I'm afraid that the jewel has left this crown. read more

Stopped in with a party of four for bellinis and desert at about 10pm. We were reasonably dressed, although my techie daughter was wearing the regulation black t-shirt. Plenty of tables in the front rooms. I was expecting to pay through the nose for the drinks and deserts. Was not expecting the insufferably rude attitude of the waitstaff. We were walked up the stairs and shown to a table in an un-airconditioned back room that I didn't even know existed. No tablecloths, room hadn't been cleaned for years. Plenty of nice tables to be had in the front room, plainly in our sight. It's one thing to pay $25 for a 4oz Bellini. It's another to be insulted in the process. read more

Visited Harry's Bar in the Summer of 2008. It was an experience that I loved and wished I could have stayed longer but at around £15 for one drink we were sipping as slowly as we could! It is only pretty small so unless you are eating you may not be lucky enough to get a table and may need to sit at the bar. The Bellinis were beautiful and the staff were fabulous, we felt like such ladies. Make sure you dress up. read more

The bar let an old man come in shorts, but when a couple of young adults came in with shorts they refused to serve them even though they were better dressed.. Waiters weren't helpful with drink choices either.. Lots of other better places for bars. read more

I am reading these reviews and I can't understand them. We stopped for our bellinis and had two. Yes they weren't cheap but your in Venice. The owner came over and talked us into coming back for dinner for our last night in town. We had a great meal. Bean soup, ravioli and had to try the cake (vanilla moose) it was incredible! The owner came over and sent us get vanilla ice cream. The best we had during our trip. Carmela signed a book for us while we were there. Sure it's a little pricey but what an experience! My daughter and I found Harry's Bar on a rainy evening in Venice. My daughter knew the bar's history and said we must stop for a Bellini. Terrible, this is not what Venetians are like, high prices, sour waiters, go to Piazza San Marco you will more fun.

Cafe Florian is worth the unreasonable pricing, for the experience of enjoying a drink, ice cream, and live music on the world famous Piazza San Marco. Harry's Bar is not. It's a dull rip-off joint--the Euro16.50 Bellini is served in a tiny juice glass that would embarrass a hotel restaurant at breakfast--and at this point who cares about Hemingway anyway? read more
