We were on the hunt for a great fish fry, which can be hard to find around here. After some research, I discovered Harry's Place in Lansing. We started with some drinks at Harry's Place--just screwdrivers and vodka cranberries--which were amazing. Then, we stayed for their Friday fish fry. Wow! It was the best fish fry I've ever had. The fish was flaky, the batter was thin and crispy, and the tartar sauce was spot on. I had a chat with the owner and learned that Harry's Place was established in 1921 and has been in the same family ever since. Despite its long history, the place feels new and clean, not old and dirty. You can really see the pride in ownership, and I respect that! We love it, and we will keep coming back. Can't believe that I've lived in the Lansing area for 54 years and tonight was my first time here. Did try to go a few years ago for the Friday Fish fry but it was too busy. Went tonight for the Olive Burger and it did not disappoint. Tried a bit of the Greek Burger and that's what I'm getting the next time thru! Very cool place. Clean and well run. Trivia night is great! Fun little bar/restaurant in a neighborhood I did not know existed. Service was good. Drinks were well made.

What can I say. Great food. Great service. Celebrated 100 years. My brother in law worked there almost 20 years ago. I just started revisiting when I was working in the neighborhood. There's not a lot of options in the area anymore, but that's okay because Harry's has a diverse menu. Indoor and outdoor seating. The bathroom art was my favorite. The olive burger and side salad were my favorite. The Hawaiin burger was pretty good. My son loved the mozzarella sticks. He said they were his favorite of all time. He thought the French dip was okay, but a little dry. Definitely worth visiting if in the area. Great value for the money. read more

Hidden in the neighborhood, but a worthy destination for dining solo on a weeknight! Families were seated at tables, couples were at the bar. Service was attentive, and the food was fast and fresh! I got a house salad that was huge and delicious as well as a pizza for planned leftovers. It reheated so well on low heat in a cast iron skillet, and since it is cut square I made pizza sandwiches (yum!) every day for a week. I will definitely be back. read more

Nobody is doing it like them. Cheap drinks and food, and great company. You'll likely run into someone you know, and the atmosphere it great!! Everyone is so nice, and you truly can't go wrong on the menu. My favorite is the meat lover's pizza (with ranch, duh), and you have to order curly fries with whatever sandwich/burger you get. Probably the best neighborhood bar in Lansing- certainly the friendliest staff! The staff shirts say "enter a customer, leave a friend", it's true and I suspect the secret to their longevity (100 years+!) surviving the neighborhood's economic ups and downs. Not just a bar & grill but a neighborhood gathering place where friends, neighbors and coworkers regularly gather after work for happy hour, celebrate birthdays or watch a game. The walls are decorated with the history of the bar, the neighborhood, and friends gone but not forgotten. Reasonably priced, tasty food and drinks in a family-friendly welcoming environment. Great for lunch, happy hour, and fish-fry Fridays! The carryout pizza is also very good! Highly recommended. read more

After going here many times, it's become very apparent the lack of care they have for their customers and staff. There is one tall, dark-haired cook who has said the most sexist, racist, appalling things that I cannot even repeat, and all said loud enough for us to hear. Very clearly, there is no shame. He sexually Harassed the women staff, one who looked underage or at the very least a late teenager. I heard many other customers hear him yelling and asking if everything is ok. It's clearly not. He has loudly said racial slurs as well as a joke about the holocaust (yes). It's probably my fault for going back since their morals are under the ground and the fact that he still works there is definitely a pending lawsuit that they doomed themselves to. I organize a meal out monthly with a group of friends. Based on the positive reviews, I chose Harry's Place for our first post lockdown get together. The DH had some of the worst nachos, he had ever had. I had the Reuben. The best thing I can say about that is that the bread was crisp. The meat was tastless, and the sandwich had barely any sauerkraut on it. The fries definitely benefitted from the ketchup as that was there only source of flavor. With all of the good restaurants in the Lansing area, I doubt that I will return to one where I had a mediocre first experience. read more

Service was beyond terrible. i had to clear every plate and glass off the table so we could have the birthday cake. nobody bothered to ask how our dinners were and if we needed anything. we had a party of 20 that they said they never gave us a reseration for. The most wonderful Greek salad, so fresh and tossed with just the perfect amount of peppers, olives tomatoes etc. we shared the Greek fries.. omg!! . flavor of tzatziki sauce with gyro tossed with feta I think so so delicious. We do take-out pizza from Harry's every other week, which is a lot for us. It definitely beats any delivery you can get in Lansing. Pretty much standard midwest style pizza with medium-thin crust, standard list of toppings. Reasonable prices. The crowd at Harry's Place varies wildly, both in size and in general tenor. Sometimes the place is jammed, noisy and rockin'; other times only a few boozy regulars haunt the bar. People seem to like the fish fry, but I've not tried it. I do order the burgers and largish orders of good but not particularly special fries. Full bar with pretty standard list of choices. All in all the place feels pretty down home. First time into Harry's Place. Came tonight to try the Cod dinner which comes with three pieces of golden fried cod and your choice of two sides. I like that they don't tie you into having just coleslaw and fries. Good size portion and generous amount of fries. Absolutely love that they make the coleslaw and that it isn't the overdressed GFS brand. Wait staff was hustling tonight because the place was packed. It didn't stop our nice waitress from checking on us numerous times to make sure we were good. While I didn't like the fish my wife and son did. Went to Harry' place for the first time last week. It looks really unassuming from the outside, but the inside was super clean and spacious, comfy booths, we picked the side with the most windows for some natural light. We went mid afternoon, so it was slow and we didn't drink, but we did eat and I'm so glad we did! Also, the kitchen is open to the restaurant, which I always like. I FINALLY found the olive burger I've been looking for in Lansing. You can add shrooms or olive sauce to any burger for a small up-charge. I got the 1/3 Angus burger with olive sauce, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle. I'll attach a pic. It was amazing. I forgot to order it well done, don't like pink in my burgers, but awesomely it came out just how I like it. Nice char, good flavor, and tons of sliced olives. DELICIOUS. I am also not a big fan of fries, but I ate quite a bit of the generous portion that came with my burger. The waitress was pleasant and attentive, we were slamming water and she kept our glasses full (which are little mason jars, cute). I will definitely be back. We've lived in Lansing 17 years and can't believe we never tried Harry's until the other night! It's a pretty good sized space with plenty of tables to push together if you have a large group. There are also booths along the wall. And many TVs. The menu is really big, a large variety of options - sandwiches, burgers, pizza, Mexican, full dinners. Our waitress was friendly and very efficient. We had the Mac & cheese bites. Good, cheesy. The olive burger. Really good but not the best burger we've ever had. And the pizza. The pizza is great. The crust is medium thickness but it's almost fluffy....not heavy & too doughy. There's a nice crisp to the bottom of it. Generous toppings, including plenty of cheese! We will ask for extra sauce next time. All in all, great first time and we'll definitely add this to our rotation! read more

So in my quest to find the best olive burger in Lansing, I had decided that Leo's Outpost on Jolly was Dah Shizz. Sorry, Leo's. Harry's Place also has an extremely yummy version, and they're 15 miles closer to my house and office. BOOM! I read in the City Pulse (02-13-13) that they were looking for good olive burgers and tried six places, ranking Harry's as the best. I was only vaguely acquainted with Harry's as the little bar across the street from where Fisher Body used to be, on Verlinden (near Sexton H.S.) I read that they have a Greek burger and requested olive "sauce" on it. So I tried it. OMG - Perfection. It was way more huge than I expected...and the bun held together nicely - did not turn into a messy, sticky pile of goo. The fries are okay, not spectacular. My order was to go and was placed by phone. They answered promptly and the man's voice was Smooooth! He was friendly and nice. The bar & grill is larger than it looks from outside. The bar's in the center with TVs mounted above it. There is a unique juke box against one wall, and lots of booths and tables surrounding the bar on all sides. It was very clean. The decor is plain, no theme or fanciness. There is a pleasant lack of advertising on the walls. One of the owners was very chatty in a friendly way, asked me if this was my first visit. He talked with me and made me feel comfortable. I have to admit, the men who work there are VERY good-looking! Harry's is a great place to relax and get a bite to eat for lunch or dinner without feeling out of place or intimidated. Definitely going back a lot! Today was our first time trying Harry's after hearing rave reviews. We ordered the Greek pizza, Hawaiian pizza, fried mushrooms, and a gyro with curly fries. First of all, let me say, "WOW!" The pizza crust tasted freshly made and the gyro was packed with meat and veggies! The fried mushrooms were crispy and had a phenomenal flavor. They were juicy and cooked to perfection. The curly fries had a really good flavor and did not taste overcooked or like they were cooked in old oil. The gentleman behind the counter was very friendly and even behind his mask, I could tell he was smiling. Overall, we leave a five star review with full bellies and smiles on our faces. my wife and I were in Harry's place for lunch, 11/8/18, I ordered a 1/3 lb burger ( well done ), when I cut in half I could see it was raw in the center, I don't send food back, if they can't cook a 1/4 " thick piece of meat all the way through the first time there not getting a second chance. Needless to say I won't be spending any more money in this nasty place, the waitress didn't seem to care that my burger was still in the basket, and the FF were not cooked , they had no flavor at all. final tally, Harry's place 1 me 0, they got my money I got crap. read more
