After the graveside service for POW James W Swartz on 05/03/25 at Summit Cemetery, we went to Spag's for lunch, reminiscing and catching up. I personally think it had been about 35 years since I'd seen anybody there. To be honest, not being from the area (I live in Troy, MI) when told where we were going to a Bar & Grill called Spag's I didn't know what to think. Well, it was perfect! We had our own room and were not rushed to leave after finishing lunch. The service was great, as was the food. The tables were consistently cleared, waitstaff very attentive; if you wanted to order a drink from the bar they didn't take long to get. We had plenty of room. There were rectangle tables along the wall so that all the memorabilia could be nicely displayed. I also liked that there were 8 seats at round tables. I don't like when places cram 10 seats. Not related to the restaurant, I'd like to add a bit more of why we were all gathered together. There were 4 generations of family from 3 different states. Jim had one surviving niece and was an Uncle of various generations to the rest of us. After 82 years, James W. Swartz remains were finally identified and returned home to be laid to rest with his parents. His parents never gave up hope that one day he would be identified and come home. He was only 18 when he signed up to serve. At that time WW2 had not begun. Jim was a prisoner of war at the Cabanatun Japanese POW Camp In 1942. He survived the unimaginable , inhumane & cruel 66 mile "Bataan Death March" in April of '42 to the Japanese POW camp. Unfortunately, his hand was cut during the march and because he received no medical care it became gangrene which was probably the major cause of his death. He passed away September '42 and was buried in mass grave # 434 with no type of identification attached. When the grave was exhumed in 1949, Jim's remains were classified nonrecoverable. Over the years the remains were moved to other sites, but still unidentifiable. Finally in November 2024 his family was told they identified his remains and he would be brought back home in April or May 2025. In closing, I'd like to thank Spag's for being so considerate to all of us at the luncheon. Your kindness was greatly appreciated. If I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely stop in. Fun food and great vibes. Loved seeing the local spot and playing the arcade games. Enjoyed the hamburgers.

We ordered the wet burrito w/roasted pulled pork (no up charge) and the chicken wrap. Both entrees were served within 15 minutes as generous portions. The burrito came with a huge order of tortilla chips that were uniquely tasty! The wrap was served with tasty sweet potato fries. We stuffed ourselves managing to get through half the order and taking the other half home. The draft 16 oz beers were served up to the brim and were fantastic!! We tried the Cheboygan Oatmeal Cookie stout (crazy good) and Founders Mortal Bloom ipa...both insanely satisfying!! Service was attentive and polite with the ambiance open and comfortable....everyone around us was ordering pizza, which they are known for, so now I have to go back! Ez to get to following the highway to or from Williamston with a generous parking lot. read more

Figured I'd give this place a second chance. Should of stayed home and saved money. Don't try the turkey club. I ordered 2 with a side of fries for my brother and I. They both had a mountain of vegetables and one this piece of sweaty deli turkey and no bacon. Waste of money. There new York rebuan comes in a roll and is very dry. There gyro was excellent. Spag's has its quirks for sure, but their nachos are hands down, the best I've ever had. I have and will drive an hour just for the nachos. I hosted my sons rehearsal dinner in the banquet room. The food was delicious and the owners couldn't have been more accommodating. It was exactly as I had wished. I love the nachos so much that they were the edible center pieces for the rehearsal ! Now that's a testament. I gave it 4 stars because the main bar occasionally has an off odor. read more

Nice locals sports bar/grill. Plenty of wall mounted tvs, keno screens to entertain you. Also pool tables and games. Service is always cordial and the atmosphere casual. The food though not extraordinary is plentiful and more than satisfactory. Highlights are the pizza, nachos and burgers. Prices are low to medium. My only concern is that they do get busy at dinner time and get a bit crowded and loud often with kids and or sports teams/fans...that can be annoying...but is a sports bar after all! Sometime in early January I ordered a pizza half cheese, half pepperoni. Seemed simple, a common order I would expect a pizza place to be able to handle. Little did I know, the high school student taking my order-- seeming to be under the influence of some sort of recreational drug from how they sounded on the phone-- place my order with cheese only on half of the pizza and pepperoni without cheese on the other half. I literally had pepperoni sitting on top of marinara sauce. Still laugh about it to this day. Service is absolutely atrocious, what you would expect from high school students, who are often condescending or outright rude on the phone because they don't understand their own menu specials. The pizza is actually pretty good if and when it comes out right though. read more

The food is decent here, but the service is terrible and the atmosphere disgusting. I've been here three times in the last year, and every time the food has been decent. It's never been bad, and that's a good thing. Burgers and ribs are good, and the steaks are decent. The service quality just isn't there; whether it's crowded or not, our waitress invariably ignores our table. Maybe we smell bad or something? It just gets old when you cannot seem to get your server's attention. Finally, the smoke inside the restaurant isn't blown away by enough ventilation. It's just gross, and if the pool tables are crowded, then don't go inside to eat. Your food will be "smoked" unintentionally. read more

I stopped in for pizza recently around 6:30 hoping to beat the crowd of evening diners. I did find the room sparsely attended & happily ordered an 12" pepperoni & mushroom pizza. Given the opportunity to choose fresh or canned mushrooms, I gladdly chose fresh ... Then, we waited and waited and waited and waited. The food was hot, tasty, and what I was expecting. I don't know why this place has such a low rating. I've been coming here since it opened when I was a teenager. The service has been a little slower lately, but you have to expect that a restaurant has a fairly high turnover over rate. Lived in Michigan for 15 years, driven by this place weekly over that time and never stoped. I regret that after stopping for lunch last Saturday. Ordered a meat lovers pizza and damn it was good. Not pan not thin but somewhere in the middle. They don't skimp on the toppings and the sauce flavor was great! Atmosphere was the only complaint although with all the TVs, it would be a good spot to watch a game or race. Will be back sooner than later. Oh, pretty good beer selection too. read more

I came here because I was looking for " bar nachos" and I'm really glad I did. The nachos were amazing and huge. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating even when there was a miscommunication with my order (which we were 50/50 at fault) she went back and had them reordered and they came out relatively fast. The best thing about it is she was really apologetic and ready to fix the situation ( I HATE sending things back) so it made me feel like I wasn't being "one of those customers." The atmosphere is a little loud but it's be be expected with so many people there. It is definitely family friendly with video games and a pool table. Oh the smell. It smells like a mix of some old attic, vomit and cigarette smoke. There is nothing appetizing about this place. Stopped in for a beer and think the bartender said 5 words to me but was extremely friendly to all of her regulars. We try to like this place but it's never passed the status of so-so. The odor of stale cigarettes still slaps one in the face upon entering. How many years has it been since smoking in restaurants was allowed? It was so full of smoke back in the day and nothing's ever been done to eliminate that dank bar odor. I guess locating a giant ashtray at the entrance isn't helping things. Food is mediocre, service seems lacking. I notice every time I drive by they are hiring. I wish people who wanted to serve food to the public realized how much of our opinion of the business is based on the environment in which the food is served and tried to excel in that regard. read more

We come here often for dinner and it is always great. It has the perfect balance, TVs, games for the kids, nice beer selection, and in my opinion, great pizza. We love the sauce! Spag's is a great place for a drink, and the food is really good. The staff is friendly, but sometimes slow even when not busy. Mac and Cheese is excellent, and the specials during the week are really good. The bad, it seems the owners/managers tend to turn off the heat or AC respectfully whenever they want people to leave. Several occasions when people are walking in and 30-40 people are in the restaurant does the temp during the cold months go from comfortable to putting a coat on and still freezing. (staff all knows this is the practice) If you want food and drink after 8pm, I would suggest bringing a coat and long johns. My suggestion if the owners don't want to be there after 8, close the doors and stop serving, don't just make your patrons uncomfortable in hopes they will leave. As buzz around town is that many of the loyal patrons are starting to move to other restaurants, because of these practices. read more

My steak never came. The waitress never came back. I talked to another waitress after 15 minutes. She went back and "checked " on our waitress. She came back after a few minutes and our waitress would be out in a "couple minutes". She never came back. I got the attention of an older gentleman behind the bar. He came over. I said I'm looking for a manager and you look like management. He said he was. I briefly explained what was up. No beer, no steak and no waitress. He goes up front to the computer. Then I lose track of him. Another 10 minutes goes by. (I s*** you not.) I see him walking towards the kitchen and make eye contact and he ignores me and walks in the kitchen. 5 more minutes pass. Nothing. I finally get p***** and got up and dropped $20 on the table and walked out. I used to like this place. But, that was rude on all counts. Local place that I have spent a lot of money in. Shocked at the poor communication and service. Similar experience the last time we went. Not going again until they inevitably go out of business and somebody with a fresh attitude takes over.
