I'm pretty sure she was abused probably by a man because she's scared to death of my son. She's still skittish with me sometimes. The collar and harness she came with were too loose and she escaped five minutes after I got home. She ran up on the freeway. Luckily, a kind driver managed to catch her and returned her to Woods. I thought I would never see her again. She was lucky she didn't get run over and I'm lucky to have her back. I bought an escape proof harness and put a different collar on her which I made sure was snug enough to not slip over her head. I almost brought her back, thinking she would never warm up to me, but I'm glad I didn't. She scared to death of a leash or anything like the collar and harness. She finally warmed up to our other dog and they play all the time. She is very playful with me when she's not scared. It just takes a lot of patience when a dog like this. Woods must have known she was an escape risk because at Woods carried her out to my vehicle. Any other time I have gotten a dog from the shelter, I always took the dog out the door and to my vehicle. I just wish they could have warned me. It almost caused her to get killed on the freeway.

I would trust this place with any poor, abandoned animal I've come across... the animal would be lucky to land here in the care of SLO animal services. There are state of the art kennels for all kinds of animals there at the facility. We recently adopted a cat and it was awesome playing in one of the two "cat rooms." There are no odors, like their last building, everything is brand new and situated in a way that puts less stress on the animals. We saw two cats we loved, could only keep one, so we paid for the adoption fees so someone could come in and pick her up. They'll tell you if an animal has had it's fees waived. We walked outside and although the dogs were loud and a little stressed, the kennels were situated so we could observe from a distance. Kristi gives a very thorough tour and drops tons of knowledgeable information on the history of WHAR wolves and also each of the wolves personalities, cnaracteristics, and fun facts. She points out the Alpha (but we all know the real Alpha is her, haha), the Beta, and the rest of the wolves' roles in the pack. The wolves have a generously-sized play time area that they take turns running around in. At the end, Kristi took out the Alpha wolf and we got to interact, pet him, and take pictures with him. Such a truly fascinating animal. You can visit by calling and making an appointment and giving a donation. We did the dusk tour for ~$15 per person, but you also have an option for a feeding tour. These are at set times, as the wolves need to be on a set feeding schedule. Parking was easy and the place is located right next to another zoo animal facility. I would highly recommend anyone who loves animals to check this place out!

It took me months of being ignored or rejected by rescues to back this puppy up until Shiloh's offered to take over when I explained to them the situation. They've been nothing but amazing. They have taken care of this dog's training and an umbilical hernia he had that needed surgery and all remotely from San Luis Obispo while we are in LA. Now they're doing their best to find him a forever home but I will always continue to support them with or without a foster dog because I could see how much time and effort they put into every dog. I am grateful for them and to have found them because I now have a rescue to support with clear conscience knowing everything I give will go exactly where it is supposed to.

I never go to a shelter for a certain animal, I go to see if there is a special connection and then adopt if I feel that. Love this shelter. It's not only the cleanest I have been to but has the most welcoming staff. I have been to many shelters and almost all have had unwelcoming staff who make you feel like you're inconveniencing them for being there. I have had so many negative experiences with other shelters it made me not want to adopt again. This shelter makes you feel welcome and they also are ready to give you all the information you need on the shelter animals. Not only that but they are happy for you to just love on the babies. It's so important that they feel love while waiting for their forever homes. My visit here left me feeling happier that there is a shelter out there that takes such good care of their animals and potential adopters .
