Charlotte Meade is the most loving animal Mom I have ever met in the many canine rescues where I have volunteered . She has a large land property in Creston, the dogs sleep inside two different enclosures (one her personal home) and she supports them with donations. Many of her beautiful senior and special needs dogs are rescued on the brink of death from the LA County Shelters. I love volunteering there, seeing the happy new dog parents taking home beautiful senior dogs that have such a love of life and so much UNCONDITIONAL LOVE to give and share. OMG! Meade Canine Rescue is absolutely fantastic!! Met Charlotte and Tim, who were so kind and so caring. Our daughter and her husband wanted to get a rescue dog for some time, and found one online at Meade. We just picked him up the other day at Meade's. He is the sweetest little guy, a beagle/corgi mix. Charlotte named him Guy. He's been so wonderfully taken care of during the last month at Meade's. We understood he was abandoned for some time, so is quite shy, a bit skittish, yet so loving. Our daughter and her husband are so happy to have him as a part of their family. They both grew up loving dogs, and pretty much all other animals. They already have a cat, named Ollie from when he was a kitten (also abandoned on the side of the road). So, it was very sweet when Ollie and Emerson (Emmer for short, Guy's new name) met, and instantly got along. Guess they have that special connection. A huge heartfelt thank you to Charlotte and Tim for really taking care of Emmer, and giving him a lot of love, and so much care and respect. Called for some help to get our dogs in a good home. Since we have a newborn, we no longer can give them the care they deserve and wanted to ensure they would go to a someone who could. The owner/manager was RUDE and condescending. Their approach may have good intentions but need to improve their bedside manner and should not judge people. My wife is devastated that we need to have someone adopt them and had to listen to this person talk to her that way...with such hate and discontent. Please continue to help the dogs they do have since that is a great service. Just beware that their customer service needs significant improvement. read more

I got my first dog from Meade Canine Rescue. When I walked into the ranch, I was a little disappointed. I did not see the rescued dogs look like the ones on animal channel " The Cuties". After carefully observing the dogs in Meade Canine Rescue, I want to say ~ Because most of them were abused before, the abuses are often reflected on their physical appearances. But each dog has his / her own unique and lovely personality which is no less than other handsome or pretty dogs. You will be amazed at how sweet they are. Thanks Charlotte. Charlotte and her rescue are nothing short of incredible. I have gotten all of my dogs from county shelters and rescues and Meade is definitely one of the most dedicated rescues I've come across. The many dogs all seem to be comfortable and unstressed, despite the conditions they may have come from. We recently adopted a senior from Charlotte and she is such a joy. Her personality has blossomed every day and it's hard to believe she was on the kill list and deemed "not recommended for adoption" by the Sacramento shelter that Charlotte pulled her from. I'm grateful for people like Charlotte and the volunteers with huge hearts who find these wonderful souls to give a second chance to. I had the pleasure of meeting Charlotte at a fundraising event that Meade Canine Rescue held at Four Lanterns Winery last month (dog-friendly, of course, or I wouldn't be reviewing it). We live in Los Angeles, but when a friend told me about the event on Facebook I decided to pack up the pups for a wine country road trip. Charlotte's passion for dogs is clear, and she is wonderfully committed to the rescue and dedicated to the utmost well-being of the pups in her care. I met so many lovely, adoptable dogs at the event and each was given so much love and attention by volunteers who clearly share her passion. I was also able to meet and chat with several of the people who adopted dogs from the rescue, and they universally had amazing things to say about Charlotte and her rescue. I read the negative review about the "bedside manner" of the rescue and I sympathize. Deciding to rehome your own pet is a difficult and emotional decision for some, and it's wonderful that you considered a rescue rather than a high-kill shelter. Unfortunately, these rescues often encounter a variety of people who don't find it difficult at all to discard the family pet because they're changing their carpet or because the dog grew a size bigger than the breeder had promised. Kennel space and fosters are hard to come by, so most rescues want to reserve that space for those with the most urgent need (dogs being chained and starved in a back yard or dogs with medical issues who need special care). After awhile, it becomes difficult to understand why some families just don't try harder to make accommodations for the family pet when that family is perfectly willing to ask strangers (like a foster or a rescue) to rearrange their lives to make those same accommodations. If you think it's tough to raise a baby and care for dogs at the same time, then you should meet the saints who raise their children, work full-time jobs, care for their dogs, and then rescue and foster someone else's dog as well. Oh yeah, people like Charlotte and her volunteers... While I may not be a local, I will continue to support Meade Canine Rescue and the amazing work they do for dogs in need. :) read more

Meade Canine Rescue specializes in senior dogs that have been dumped in county shelters, usually in need of medical care and love. Charlotte Meade, the founder, adores these older dogs and wants them to spend the last years of their lives in loving homes - yours or hers. Meade Rescue gives the dogs the medical care they need and then works to find homes that appreciate senior dogs: they nap a lot, don't need many walks, and are grateful for a full belly and a warm bed - yours, or something soft on the floor. Usually they're housebroken (if not, that's a former neglect issue, but old dogs CAN learn new tricks) and grateful for your love and affection. Some dogs have been left outside their entire lives, and amazingly learn to trust in a new home, greeting you with tail wags and happy barks and kisses. Please consider a senior dog - they know they've been given a second chance and will adore you for it. I have known Charlotte and this rescue since it's arrival in California, and visit several times a year. Never have I seen such a group of happy old dogs before! The numbers ebb and flow, but it is remarkable how, year after year, some dogs who were only given a couple of weeks/months to live, end up living a year or YEARS! I fondly remember Martin, a known 17 year old german shepherd mix, not looking so good upon arrival, and yet, he lives THREE wonderful years with Charlotte, finally laying his head to rest at the ripe old age of 20! I have one of Charlotte's dogs now, a blind old terrier mix named Walter, and I simply love him to pieces, as do my other dogs. Charlotte's discipline and organization, together with her volunteers, is remarkable. Honestly, I'd probably lose my mind if I had 20-40 dogs under my daily care, all of whom had medical or special needs! How she does it is simply a miracle, with all the love and devotion each of those poor previously abandoned or abused dogs deserve. And by the way - senior dogs make GREAT pets! Please consider opening your heart and your home to a dog in his/her golden years. read more
