I played here today for the first time in about 25 years, it was public when I last played. I actually remembered a few holes.The course is very playable and scenic from T to green. Around the greens is where it becomes more challenging. On this day it was pin position #1 and wasn't fun. Most of the pins were in the most difficult positions and many it was impossible to get the ball close. The greens were perfect and challenging and trying to get it in the correct level was challenging with pin placement #1. Loved the course and can't wait to get back! read more

Hartefeld National - Great Golf Course - Golf Near Me - Avondale, Pennsylvania

Before it became a private club, Hartefeld was a great place for drinks at the bar , dinner , brunch, Fourth of July fireworks- all were enjoyable. Whoever bought the place now has ruined it. We had dinner there a few nights ago- the food was terrible, service awful and the place was a ghost town . Our friend who is a member was not happy. Too bad- used to be a nice place. read more

Used to love their buffet brunches. Made reservations for family to celebrate husband's 80th birthday. Unfortunately, gentleman who took reservation neglected to tell us that not only was buffet no longer offered, but that it was now members only private affair. Very embarrassing and awkward at check presentation. Food was ok but not great. Their "prime rib hash" consisted of thinly sliced overdone stringy beef topped with their famous potatoes and two very undone fried eggs. Had to send back to cook the eggs. Still tipped server very well. Nothing was her fault. read more

I don't know what's happened to the food or the service, but if I were the one paying those astronomical club dues, I'd be rethinking my decision. I'll keep it short. The band on the patio made me want to stab myself in my ears. Exactly how many Fleetwood Mac songs is too many? Uh... one. I ordered the Lump Crab and Citrus salad with toasted almonds. What arrived was 5 ounces of arugala (think bagged lettuce from the market), four slivers of apple, raw almonds (NOT toasted and NOT acceptable), and a dressing I can only describe as sugar and vinegar. Oh... the crab, you ask? No idea. There was perhaps a tablespoon of something shredded and crab-like scattered thru the huge bowl of arugala, so I'll just have to take their word for it that it was "lump crab." It literally had no flavor whatsoever. Literally. No. Flavor. The only thing more disappointing than the food was the service. I waited 17 minutes to be asked for a drink order and another 14 to receive my single glass of wine. Put that on repeat for the second glass. Three of us asked for the check on three separate occassions. Our server was too busy drinking water and doing who knows what while we waited 30 minutes for the check. Tips for your visit: eat before you go; order a bottle of wine; and bring cash so you can just guessimate the check, throw it on the table, and leave before you've spent 3 hours getting through a salad. read more

Generations of my family have enjoyed Hartfield for many special occasions over the years. It's been a few years since we've been back. We were sadly disappointed, and we can see why we were only one of two tables of customers at 11am for Sunday Brunch. Service: Augie, who continually wiped his hair with his hand, never refilled our cocktails or water. Ever. He barely checked on us, (and had very few customers) and when we had finished eating, he completely disappeared for at least 20 minutes while we waited for the check. Food: While the Eggs Benedict was very good, others found their sourdough bread was hard, potatoes were too salty, and generally unsatisfactory food. "I guess that's not what I was picturing" was heard by a couple guests. Still a lovely place to visit, with beautiful views. Sad that we probably won't be back.... read more

Took Mom for lunch here today for an early Mother's Day gift. I couldn't get over the skimpy lunch menu! I ordered the 'grilled shrimp salad' which was a small bowl of chopped iceberg & some Romain and Four grilled shrimp. FOUR SMALL SHRIMP - for $15. They did toss in ONE slice of avocado. There were a handful of halved cherry tomatoes and maybe 1/4 c of corn. It took a long time for our two salads to arrive & I was absolutely still hungry when I left. Beautiful ambiance- great view - helpful waiters. But I really couldn't get over the micro-size portion for that price. No rolls or bread offered. Not returning here. Gave it 2 stars for the view & friendly waitress. read more

We came here for a family brunch on a Sunday. I haven't been to Hartefeld in years, and it's changed a lot. There was a good selection of breakfast and lunch items. Everyone else ordered a salad; I got french toast. The toast was good! It also came with a generous serving of hash browns. My coffee was mediocre--it was pretty watery and warm but not hot. The salads were a good size and looked great, but those who got salads remarked that they were still hungry after lunch. Perhaps more protein or a side of bread would be helpful to make the salad a more complete meal--the shrimp salad only had a few shrimp. In all, though, we had a good time. Excellent evening meal on their deck overlooking the course. Service was superb, menu interesting and varied, wine selection decent, and food was well prepared. Will go back for sure. Best outdoor eating option in the Hockessin/Landenberg area. read more

The grandparents had the fish dishes and a good selection for the vegetarian niece plus a goodly menu of deserts too - service was great.

The staff here is extremely friendly and helpful, the golf course is challenging and always well maintained. We love bringing the children here and they are always made to feel welcome. Their events are always well run. We enjoy coming here for dinner and brunch. The food is good, I like the menu. Please use less salt, it is easy enough to add at the table and some dishes leave the kitchen way too salty. All around a fun club, and highly recommended. read more

The area is beautiful as well as the main house which is absolutely breathtaking. The food leaves a lot to be desired along with the service. While our experience may be unique for this venue the Eggs Benedict and coffee were not. A Venue of this caliber could and should go the extra mile to do these two things right with quality ingredients. Lets start with the coffee, to be kind in my words it was watered down, it resembled a tea brew in its color and consistency. Why?? Franchise restaurants offer a better coffee. The Eggs Benedict was bland and cheap, I waited patiently for my order 30-40 min later it arrived, which is fine they were busy, but after eating the tiny little dish I was ruined on the buffet. I could eat nothing else. I wish that I had not waited and enjoyed the buffet which was absolutely wonderful looking and everyone in my party enjoyed immensely. The service, Wow so bad I am surprised. Two servers were fighting over our table and in the mix of server victory our order was lost in the battle. These things happen they do and I am alright with that but the patron, the paying customer shouldn't have to suffer due to servers egos and that's exactly what happened. Drink orders took 30+ minutes to arrive only after finding the victor server and explaining that we did not in fact get all of our drinks. Then finding the server again and explaining that we were in fact waiting for orders of Eggs Benedict, which was promptly blamed on the losing server not relaying out order. While mistakes and miscommunications happen it was overly obvious what was happening in this situation. It was surprising that a restaurant of this "First Class" (proclaimed on their website) status could get these few things so wrong. I've eaten here a lot. Every single thing I've gotten is really good. Lunch is great but dinner is when to go in my opinion. They have great specials all the time, always changing. My personal favorite is the SCC pasta. For dessert, the peanut butter pie is a must. read more

Extremely disheveled management and staff. Arrived at 5pm on a Friday to sit on the patio. There were a ton of open tables, however was told they were all reserved, and would be an hour wait. We gave our name and number to the hostess. At 5:45, we checked in to see how much longer (now with a different hostess) and was told we were not on the list. The manager comes and tells me he can add me to the wait list and it would be an hour wait. I told him we have already been waiting since 5pm. He acknowledged that we were, they had new staff, but there was nothing he could do as all tables were reserved. At this point there were still a lot of open tables on the patio, so did not make any sense. We decided to eat inside. Food was ok. Paid for dinner and given checks without our credit cards returned. We had given 2 cards to split down the middle and 1 was run twice instead. Please hire capable staff and management!!! Occasional mistakes happen but it is a hot mess over there! read more

Fabulous restaurant. Order the wings or the Ahi Tuna appetizer. The nachos (get the added steak or chicken, the chef isn't stingy) are also incredible. The wings are the meatiest my husband ever had. The Tuna paired with the Joel Gott Sauvignon is my favorite restaurant order ever. Best burgers as well. The atmosphere is laid back and inviting, and family friendly, especially in the Walker Cup room. They have books and toys and activities for kids, just ask the waitstaff. I've taken my son here since the day after he was born, he loves it and always has. Days I've forgotten his activities, the staff magically appears with a book or toy from the said box. And did I mention the kids menu? Best. Fries. (And kid sundaes) Ever. Or so says my little boy. They also have all the generic stuff kids like (pasta, tenders, etc.). This was our third year having Easter brunch here, and will be our last. Severely disappointed. No raw bar as in past and the peel and eat shrimp were half the size as in previous years. The mushroom soup they were once famous for , was watered down and tasteless. The prime rib was all well down ( that is a crime) when asking for a rare piece, the carver acted as though she could not understand my request. Desserts were decent, but several items I would have tasted, I did not for kids trying cut cakes licking their fingers and putting them back on the desserts. More assistance is needed at the dessert buffet or cakes should be individually plated . It is sad to see what had been a very fine dining experience has so deteriorated. read more

We've enjoyed Hartfeld in the past and returned last evening after a long absence. We were surprised to see it empty on a Friday evening but we found out why. Sadly, it was a poor experience. The food was tasteless, vegetables burned and the service very spotty. The food is less than average and the prices are still premium. read more
