Once you make it through the security doors, you're met with the most delightful, sincere, and pleasant duo in the jewelry business. You'd think they are married, but "Butch" and his "Work Wife" are just there to make sure you get what you need at a fair price. Since my first visit, I've been back multiple times to have chains lengthened, rings resized, watches checked for authenticity, and bracelets fixed! What was once lost, is found again. On my trip to Australia several years ago I purchased a black opal. A friend suggested I take an art class at the Des Moines Art Museum. I had to come up with my own design for the class. I decided to make a ring, incorporating diamonds in the pattern of the Southern Cross, a constellation only seen in the Southern Hemisphere. We were so fortunate to have come across Hartman Jewelers while on our honeymoon in Palm Desert. I brought two rings in for repair--one that was so severely bent that I couldn't get it over my knuckle anymore, and one that has undergone several costly repairs, only to break again within a matter of days or weeks. Not only was the first ring fixed (and polished!) so that I could walk out with it the same day, but Butch explained to me why all the previous repairs on my other ring hadn't lasted. They were the best watch battery replacement experience I have ever had! I had been told by another jeweler that my watch needed to be replaced. The battery was good but the insides needed to be replaced. I wanted to have a second opinion and I made that comment to Butch Hartman after he had cleaned the Watch inside and out, replace the battery and repaired the pin on the band of the watch. My watch looked brand-new and then he said no charge because of my bad experience with another jeweler. Well I am surprised at all these great reviews. I came in to get some batteries for some watches, a band sized and also had some very expensive estate jewelry I inherited of platinum and diamonds. I wanted to get the jewelry made into some new jewelry if possible. It was really warm out. The store was a mess, boxes piled up by the counter etc...The jeweler was sitting behind the counter taking care of a couple. He didn't even look at me & have eye contact. Not a word, no I will be with you soon or can you come back later...zilch. An older woman came over to me and took the watches & went behind a counter where she was I assumed cleaning them or trying to open them. There was no place to sit, not a word from him and basically I stood there for over 20 minutes. The couple just ignored me and was asking frivolous questions that really weren't necessary under the circumstances. I told the woman that had my watches that I wanted to leave after about 25 minutes. The jeweler didn't even look up! When the jeweler himself can't even acknowledge me or excuse himself for a moment and take my items that is very rude. I wanted to make an appointment with him to see the estate jewelry and have him create something for me. So much for that. I have never been ignored this way. So guess what, he lost my business and it was substantial. How about just being kind! Just have some basic manners. As for the couple in there, the lack of humility was unbelievable. read more

We vacation in the desert from Vancouver and were referred to Butch by an old friend Jeweler in Bellevue Washington. We introduced ourselves to Butch and we were immediately fast friends. He did some repairs on the spot and cleaned our bracelets and watches. We purchased some earrings and he fitted them perfectly. On our next trip we had more repairs. Worst experience ever , Dropped of a ring 3&1/2 months ago with clear instructions as the what I wanted repaired on my wife's wedding ring that she lost the main stone out of . I needed it repaired by April first for a Birthday gift . When I never received a call in more than 3 months not wanting to bother As they had many clients I finally decided to call to see if it was ready , I was given many excuses that made no sense at all and was told nothing had been done as per his notes he took upon dropping off the ring in January he was waiting for me to come back in for a ring sizing for my grand daughter as she was to get and old setting we were using a stone out of for the wedding ring repair ??? Yes as per our conversation this was to happen when I picked up my wife's ring after in had been finished , You would think a jeweler would call and ask why I had not been back if that were the case This was an excuse for the lack of concern and poor communication when I took the ring in , Now nothing was done and I now need to find a reputable reliable jeweler that can communicate and make the repairs I needed , This was a total waste of my time and will NEVER EVER go back to this store that has zero customer service and no communication skills and not once offered an apology for their extremely poor customer experience . read more

I'm not native to the area and so missed being able to go to my jeweler of the last 30 some odd years.. I tried a couple mall jewelers for watch batteries and seemingly small repairs, with little satisfaction. This one ring in particular, with channel set baguettes was losing a stone every year. (It reminded me of my fussy European car.) It seemed to be in the shop about half the time. We took it to HARTMAN JEWELERS and in about a week Butch tightened it up, replaced a missing stone, and built up the band to better hold the stones in. My ring came back looking and feeling amazing. I am so impressed by the quality and kindness shown by Butch at Hartman Jewelers. I needed to resize my engagement ring (16 years and having a kid definitely changed my finger size). I brought in my engagement ring and the new anniversary band my husband had purchased. Butch was very kind, explained what he would do to ensure that the integrity of my engagement ring wasn't compromised, explained the process of cleaning, resizing and rhodium plating so it would look just as shiny as my new band. It was hard to leave a ring that has been on my finger for 16 years, but Butch made it easy. I was shocked at how attuned he is to his craft that he knew exactly what size my ring needed to go to just by looking and feeling my finger. It took just over a week and a half to get my ring back (I did drop it over over the holidays, so I'd expect it's likely faster if it's not holiday season when the shop is closed). My ring looks brand new, fits perfectly, and it was reasonably priced for the work that was done. In addition, I can take both rings to him for cleaning and inspection once a month. I'll be bringing other jewelry to him as well. I'm thrilled with the service I received and I will recommend Hartman Jewelers to anyone that needs their jewelry repaired. read more
