I can't say enough good things about Dr. Hartoonian! I began having a lot of pain in an old root canal from another endodontist, and x-rays showed that the root was infected once again. I called Dr. Hartoonian's office, explaining that I was in pain and needed to get in as soon as possible for a root canal re-treatment. The receptionist was so kind and helpful, working magic to move their schedules around so I could get in within 72 hrs. I have a fair amount of fear when it comes to anything dental, and Dr. Hartoonian's calm demeanor paired with his knowledge and expertise put me right at ease. He explained each step of the procedure and what to expect, and he even actively updated me during the procedure itself ("We're making good progress, cleaning the root now" and "We are 75% done.") Dr. Hartoonian is extremely talented, works quickly, and I felt NO PAIN at all. He has lessened my fear of dentistry and I highly recommend him!! read more

This is a review based solely on Dr. Hartoonian telling me that he knew my body and medical history better than I do. He was referred for a redo root canal that was botched by my regular dentist. At the consult, I shared with Dr. Hartoonian that I had sensitivities to epinephrine as do many of my family members which causes paralysis. He told me that it is impossible and that any reactions were because others do not understand the proper way to administer it. I responded that I did not want it. I show up to the appointment after being called to come in an hour earlier than scheduled so that he could attend a memorial. As he is administering the anesthesia , I could feel my heart start pounding and tell him I can feel the epinephrine. He very gruffly said that I was the cause of my discomfort and that I needed to relax, that he didn't use any epinephrine. Well, relax I did, actually falling asleep- which is not normal during dental procedures- until his phone rang right by my ear, waking me up. When he was finished, he said I could get out of the chair, and I could not move - legs too heavy to move/no control over them. He asked me if I had eaten breakfast, and strongly suggested that what I was feeling was because of lack of food... AGAIN trying to make this about me doing something wrong. When he realized I was not moving, rather than making sure I was okay, he went to the hook on the wall, took down my pocketbook and jacket, placed them on my legs telling me to take what time I needed AND he left the room - leaving me totally alone. At some when I didn't come out, he sent his receptionist/office person back to check on me. I stated that Dr. had used epinephrine and she denied that, repeating that it was because I didn't have breakfast. She walked me to the reception area and it took me about 30+ minutes bf I could walk, wobbly though it was, to my car. After much discussion with myself, I decided that I could now allow him to finished the root canal. I told the front office and she tried to get me to come back in saying that they had already rec'd $ from insurance. I refused and found someone else. Now for the second outrageous thing - I couldn't get copies of my visit notes which would also state what anesthesia he had used nor was he sending them to the new endodontist. I finally had to say that they are my records and it is my right to have them and if I didn't have them by the end of the day, they could expect me to come into the office and sit in reception until I received them. Sure enough - he used an anesthesia with small portion of ...guess what... EPINEPHRINE... The arrogance of this doctor is not unusual in the realm of doctors. My new endodontist is wonderful and caring. I did receive a partial refund check without having to threaten to sit in the office; that is the only good thing that I can say. read more

Dr. Hartoonian is a prince. He has a very thoughtful, relaxed, and reassuring manner and is extremely skilled at administering numbing medication. His work is meticulous. He is a model for all health professionals (of which I am one.) His office staff are great, too, and I have never had to wait more than a few minutes. You can't do better. read more

Dr Hartoonian is the only doctor to see for a root canal. He's done 3 of mine and I will tell you that I had absolute no pain. I mean NO PAIN.... I have had a doctor in La Canada which is referred by my dentist and it was the worst. So painful. I had another dr in Pasadena by Macy's which was the worst of all. It was two days before Christmas (2019) and all through the house, my son felt near death; with pain in his mouth. What should he do, the pain was alarm'n.....then I remembered.....we had to call Armen!!! Yes he was busy......with patients up to his chin. But being a saint he said "come right in!" Like Santa, Armen got right to work. My son stayed real still and tried not to jerk. In the time it took to sing a Christmas song....the throbbing and pain would soon be gone. I was referred to Dr. Hartoonian by my regular dentist for my first (and hopefully only :)) root canal. I was very nervous about the process and didn't know what to expect. I must say, Dr Hartoonian was very gentle, kind and caring. He explained the entire process for both visits and checked in with me several times during the process to make sure I was quite comfortable and even asked if I wanted a blanket! His technique for the local anesthesia was awesome....I didn't feel a thing as his approach was careful and precise. I can tell Dr. Hartoonian is a very meticulous kind of person and that is a quality I look for both in dentists and doctors. When the local anesthesia wore off, I couldn't believe that I didn't feel soreness near the damaged tooth, a tribute I attest to gentle workmanship. Nonetheless, I followed complete instructions and took some ibuprofen, just in case. If you are afraid of the dentist, Dr. Hartoonian is the one for you! I recently found out I had to get another root canal and since my first one was such a terrible experience, I was incredibly anxious. Dr. Hartoonian and Frances (in the front) are so kind and supportive. If you listen to their instructions, you will be just fine. I wish I was being seen under more pleasant circumstances (after all who wants a root canal?) however I must say this dentist is tops. His office is easy to find with ample parking. The office staff is friendly and helpful. Dr. Hartoonian himself is the consummate professional; kind, professional and thorough. I was seen initially about a month prior and although the tooth tested positive for a root canal, Dr Hartoonian did not pressure me or insist we go forward that moment. Let's be honest, nobody wants to get a root canal. BUT if you are going to have to have a root canal or anything like it-- Dr. Hartoonian is your guy. Frances answered the phone, she's his assistant, I bet his "girl Friday" the one who gets what he needs before he even knows he needs it. Anyway, she is a gem-- How do you get "warm and friendly" with "efficient and professional"? You get a Frances. I felt as if I had happened upon an old friend. She has this wonderful disposition about her. Sure you are calling to schedule something that sounds utterly painful and well, painful. But after I hung up the phone, I thought wow, this isn't going to be your Mother's root canal. You kind of feel like you just made arrangements for lunch. Her laugh made me feel comfortable and well, I can be uptight and difficult-- Dr. Hartoonian? A gentle and kind soul. Soft-spoken, serious and to the point. He explains everything that is happening, but avoids saying anything that requires anything more than a hand signal. He was calming, telling me to breath every once in a while-- not during the procedure, but more during the "numbing" part. As an aside, I had a personal emergency that required me to cancel my appointment. I was mortified, but he and Frances? Called me to see if I was okay. Even when i came in for my root canal-- it was if they were family and wanted to make sure everything was okay. Dr. Hartoonian called to check on me the following day and I was happy to report nothing. I cannot say enough kind things about Dr. Hartoonian and his staff-- but I will leave with this. Was referred to Dr.Hartoonian from my regular dentist for root canal service. I couldn't have picked a better one myself. The work was as pain free as a root canal can get. I had no problems afterwards and was very impressed by the follow up phone call I received from Frances the next day. When I went, I didn't eat much that day and Dr. Hartoonian asked me if I had eaten. When I said, very little, he offered me a protein shake, just to make sure I am well nourished while he is doing the root canal procedure. I was referred by my regular dentist (Broussard) who doesn't deal with root canals. Many folks don't like the dentist, but it is really bad for me. I was suppose to deal with this tooth about 4 to 6 months ago, but was that afraid. Well the tooth got worse and left me no choice but to go in. They wanted me to make sure I ate before coming in. No other dentist had told me to do that before. He noticed I was scared and gave me something for the anxiety. When he administered the numbing medicine he told me to focus on breathing. The procedure too a little over an hour and was painless. They called me to make sure I was okay and told me how to take care of my mouth. Endodontist.........Eeeek k! If you dislike the dentist and are petrified of a Root Canal.....your in for a big surprise with Dr. Hartoonian. My dentist diagnosed the wrong tooth as needing a root canal. After Dr. Hartoonian's x-ray and exam he new exactly what needed to be done and without delay. I wish I could give Dr. Hartoonian more than five starts because I would. Allow to share with you what brought me to his office. I had avoided having a root canal with a dentist that had been refered to me from a friend. On Christmas day I cracked my tooth. I was in the kind of pain that kept me up for days. To say I was desperate and out of it would be an understatement. I made an emergency appt to the dentist I had been refered to. They novocained my mouth and then said we need to pull out your tooth. I thought I had no choice. Now here is the thing, they were talking about pulling a tooth in what they call the smile zone. Not a good place. So here I am in the chair, mouth numb exhausted and ready to get my tooth extracted. Here, I am talking to the dentist about a flipper tooth. Something tells me to call my husband.I tell him what I am facing and he says. I think you need a second opinion, that is just crazy. See if that tooth can be saved. Do not get it pulled today. So I called Dr. Abelsoon who refers me to Dr. Hartoonian. I make a second emergency appt. He takes Xrays, looks at my roots and he says the golden words I had hoped to hear. We Can Save YOUR TOOTH. And that is exactly what he did. I never felt any pain at all and I mean that NO PAIN!!! He is an artist! he really is. he took his time, kept checking to make sure I was OK as he work on my root canal. Two weeks later I came back to finsh the work. There is no way I will ever go to anyone else, ever. I know that your dentists will say they do root canals, and they do-- But let me tell you something. He is the only one I will ever allow to do a root canal for me. I am beyond pleased. As for the dentist who was going to pull a perfectly healthy tooth out of my mouth. He shall remain nameless. I had to have an emergency root canal for the first time in my life this past June, right after Memorial Day weekend. I was in excruciating pain and my regular dentist asked Dr. Hartoonian's office if they could fit me in that morning last minute to exam my tooth further and perform the root canal if needed. I was devastated when my dentist said I would need either a root canal or extraction. I went to Hartoonian, recommended by my dentist, and I was pretty nervous. I never had a root canal. I was advised by Hartoonian that he could save my tooth with a root canal, which was better than extraction. I appreciated him taking the healthier route, not the more expensive route. His procedure was literally painless! I had a Skype meeting hours after my procedure and even filmed a video the following day with no pain, no swelling, no incident. Believe every positive thing you read about Dr. Hartoonian; he is amazing! I had a deep cavity in a tooth under a bridge; one dentist said I should just pull the tooth and do implants - I can't afford that - I wanted a doctor to drill into the bridge and tooth and do the root canal. Although Dr. Hartoonian say ideally I should get a new bridge, he was willing to do what I wanted and told me what I should expect about how long this work will last. Absolutely no pain -zero. I'm so glad my friend referred me to Dr. Hartoonian when I needed a root canal. I had a problem tooth that had been worked on by 4 different dentists over the years. It had become extremely sensitive and Dr. Hartoonian was kind enough to stay very late to perform a root canal for me so I wouldn't suffer any longer. It was not an easy tooth to work with, but he was extremely skilled, patient, and didn't try to rush through it. He is extremely well known in the dentist community for his expertise in performing root canals. He answered all of my questions and I was even able to text him with questions and updates regarding my progress after the procedure. My tooth is fine now and I have Dr. Hartoonian to thank for that. I highly recommend Dr. Hartoonian. The only thing that wasn't great was when his secretary didn't tell me that my final visit (which was only 10 minutes), cost over $100. Instead of sending an invoice asking for payment, she automatically charged my credit card on file without my authorization. I had to wait several days for her to reverse the charge so I could use my HSA card instead. read more

First root canal ever. i have put it off twice prior to this. the procedure was painless. i have had teeth cleaning that was much more painful than this root canal. The Dr. was very knowledgeable, patient and sweet. the office atmosphere was relaxing and modern and the staff was friendly and helpful. when i called in this was the ONLY receptionist that checked over the phone what my insurance benefits were prior to me stepping foot in the office. the only reason i am giving this office 4.75 stars and not 5 is because i did not get a prescription for pain killers after procedure. i was told to take 600 mgs. of ibuprofen and was assured that should be enough to relieve any discomfort. i told Dr. Hartoonian that if i was not comfortable i would call back for a prescription but he, again, told me he was anti narcotic pain reliever and that it would not be necessary. i feel a bit sore but nothing like the tooth ache i have had for the last three days. i do not need anything stronger than the ibuprofen he said i would need. i still need to go back in a week to get fitted for a crown- which will have to be done else where because he only specializes in root canals. I highly recommend Dr. Hartoonian. He is a fantastic dentist with a gentle hand and great for cowards like me. thank you Dr. Hartoonian.. i will never see anyone else for root canals and will always refer friends to him. read more

I have had the pleasure, yes I said pleasure!, of having Dr. Hartoonian do two root canals for me. Both of them went off successfully. Dr. Hartoonian is extremely detail oriented, very thorough, and has excellent bed side manners with his patients. He continually checked in on me to see if I was doing well during the procedure. He makes you feel at ease and Never have I felt Any pain during any of my visits. In fact after my last visit a few weeks ago, I went and played tennis right after the procedure. Dr Hartoonian is the only endodontist I will go to. He has done two of my root canals, one of them being a redo done by a regular dentist who had no business doing business them. He has also done my wife's root canal as well and she could not been happier with the result. I guess he has become our family endodontist! He is very professional and makes you feel 100% comfortable at all times. There is never any wait when i go they take me strait in and they have always worked with my busy schedule. I highly recommend Dr. Hartoonian. I have had 4 root canals over the past few years, and he has done them all. I can tell the level of skill and care in his work is unequivocal. Most recently, I made a last minute appointment on a Friday evening after experiencing many days of tooth pain. I went to Dr Hartoonian because my previous Dentist botched my two root canals and crowns. Dr Hartoonian spent over an hour fixing each tooth on two visits for each tooth. The metal fillings in my mouth are over (20) years old, so when they began to break down and turn into root canals, my dentist referred me to Dr. Hartoonian. I was somewhat apprehensive as I had just had a root canal last year and the experience was extremely painful. However, Dr. Hartoonian has changed me forever! I was referred to him in February 2012 and I was preparing myself for the excruciating pain I've had in the past with my general dentist.....but he surprised me!
