Let me start out by saying that I am the worst dental patient! Even with orthodontia as a kid, the dentist is stressful for me. On Thursday, 10/29, my regular dentist took regular full-month x-rays. It was determined that my tooth that had been giving me issues had a dying root. So he referred me to Dr. Thomas. I called when I got the referral from the car. I was in tears because I was so scared as my last root canal was a horror story. From the start, I could tell that this was going to be a different experience. Melissa calmed me down immediately and was able to get me a consultation appointment on Monday, 11/3. Fast forward to the appointment on Monday. The office had it's own parking lot in front which is awesome. The office looked and smelled clean like antiseptic and alcohol which one wants in a dentist. After some additional x-rays, Dr. Thomas came into examine my tooth. He was concerned that two teeth seemed to be infected so he performed sensory test to ensure tha the correct tooth was being treated. Yep, it was the expected tooth. Since Dr. Thomas had the available time, he was able to perform the root canal immediately after a CAT scan of my mouth. I loved this as I had so much less anxiety! I told him about my needle phobia and he was patient and easy while giving the anesthesia. He explained everything that was going on in my mouth, gave my mouth frequent rests from being open, used a dental dam to protect the tooth from saliva infection, and was just overall kind and gentle. Dr. Thomas only had me take OTC meds for pain and hot/cold compresses. He also did not prescribe any antibiotics as he wanted my immune system to try and resolve it first. I like this approach. If needed, antibiotics will be prescribed at the follow-up appointment. The office called to check on me this morning and made sure that I was taking the OTC meds and doing the compresses. Overall, I would recommend this dentist and office to anyone who needs a root canal. But, most especially for someone like me who is anxious and nervous at the dentist. As concerned as I was to have a root canal, Dr. Thomas changed that for me. I cant say enough about him and his staff. It wasn't as painful as I expected because Dr. Thomas took exceptional care of me. His gentle,careful , concern kept me.at ease. The staff was exceptional and welcoming. His assistants were totally in sync with him and made the fear of this procedure actually comfortable. If you need a root canal I suggest you go to Dr. Thomas. Dr. Sony Thomas is an amazing Endodontist, He is a master of his craft and if there were 10 stars, I'd give him a 10. Dr. Thomas can be trusted and he and his staff always call after you've been home to check on how their patient is doing. I know several people who have had Root Canals done by Dr. Thomas and all of them were extremely please with the work he did on their teeth. His office is pristine, calm, and spacious. I came to see Dr. Thomas due to a referral from my regular Dentist Dr. Ogura because I had a tooth which was showing signs of reabsorption. This means the tooth was dying from the inside out. I had no idea what this was or how serious, but I learned quickly! Dr. Thomas and all of the office staff were very professional, thorough and supportive. I've never had a major dental problem, and this one was a serious situation requiring treatment and a root canal. In addition, it was in a difficult spot behind my lower front tooth. Dr. Thomas is incredibly positive and he is excellent at describing what the problem is, the alternatives, and how he would suggest proceeding. I scheduled the procedure and it turned out to be a four hour process due to the complexity. Throughout the procedure he reassured me and even took time to relax my jaw because that's a long time to have your mouth open. His hygienist, Erica and Monica, were professional and attentive to my needs, and it was clearly have a good professional relationship with Dr. Thomas. I received a follow up phone call the day after checking to see how I was doing, which was very thoughtful. If you're looking for an endodontist I highly recommend that you see Dr. Thomas! read more

I was in immense pain and my dentist referred me to Dr Thomas. I was able to schedule a same day appointment, thinking it was just going to be a consultation. With my dentist believing I needed a root canal, Dr Thomas ran a quick test to make sure that was the case (and it was). I was briefed on the procedures needed, along with the costs, and was advised that a 360 X-ray would need to be paid out of pocket (which I agreed to). Very transparent with costs... Onto the root canal. Boy did I present Dr Thomas a challenge! My back molar was the culprit. Not only does it stick out a tiny bit, but my mouth barely opens enough for that tooth to see the light of day, so that was a hurdle. Then my X-rays showed deep and narrow roots, almost touching my sinus. What fun!! Dr Thomas addressed these items and told me that he would take his time and be extra careful. He took great care in doing a thorough job and was very patient. He told me that if I ever needed a break to rest my jaw, use the restroom, etc, just let him know. Just before the procedure, he and I decided on having Frank Sinatra style music play in the background. Nothing like having Sinatra, Bubel, Mraz, Sheehan, etc playing to distract from the drilling. Heck, he was so gentle that I was humming along to the songs with him! It honestly was a pain free root canal. I'll be going back for a follow up in a few weeks, so stay tuned. Here's my feedback on Dr Thomas based on today's visit: he is personable, funny, provides detailed answers to your questions, and is gentle. A previous Yelper mentioned his accent, but I had ZERO trouble understanding him. Side note: Their COVID protocols include taking your temperature and having you complete a questionnaire while outside in the parking lot, wearing double masks, and having hand sanitizer available. read more

Excruciating He found nothing. Didn't know why I had pain. Told me I might have a sensitivity to cold or to hot. Maybe I was stressed and clenching. Didn't know. Didn't recommend a bite guard or anything helpful. As my anxiety and frustration grew he still offered no help. Did tell me to come back in a few weeks to be rechecked. Yeah and spend more money for nothing. He finally was done, walked out, went into his office and closed his door. So overall I got tortured by dentist, xrays painfully crammed in my mouth by tech, spent a lot of money and condensed to. As for their building photo it is not that nice outside either, especially when I was their in the dark. I was referred to Dr. Thomas by my dentist. I was so fortunate he is extremely knowledgeable and very personable. He explains what he is doing and what he is finding. I really appreciate that he carefully answers all your questions and provides additional information. In the end my tooth could not be saved. He had his office contact an oral surgeon (one I was familiar with) and sent me over on an emergency basis. I was so relieved to have the tooth extracted the same day. I highly recommend Dr. Thomas to anyone needing endodontics. It is evident he is exceptionally skilled. What I really found so helpful were his explanations for procedures. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! I went to see about a root canal I needed and got a consult from Sony. He charged me $550 for X-Rays and a consult. Plus he gave me a bid for $3,200 for the root canal work. The total was $3,750. He ended up having to cancel due to a death in his family and thankfully I found Pasadena Endodontics on Green street. They took me right away and charged me only $2,200 for everything including X-Rays. I saved $1,700 by going to the Pasadena Endodontics. What forced me to write this review is when I called Sony's office to discuss it with the billing person, and explained how the price difference came out, she was completely snobbish and couldn't care less. I told her she wouldn't be seeing me over there again and she said she was glad they wouldn't. I was treated like an idiot and without any empathy. Just pay and shut up is what she basically said. So I am writing this review to let people know that this office treats people quite disrespectfully and they way way way overcharge for their services. Find another place to go!!! There are plenty of good doctors out there that have empathetic staff and reasonable rates. read more

When you get a referral you always hope it's going to be good. Dr Thomas needed to re-do a previous root canal I had done years ago and that experience was horrible. So you can sense and imagine my nervous hesitation. I can say my experience with Dr Thomas and his staff has been more than amazing. As a Realtor who owns his own business I can say that they are great example of true professionalism. If you have a dentist and they suggest a referral that's not Dr Thomas...Don't take that ride. His opinion changed throughout the consultation. He seemed adamant that my tooth problem wasn't an actual problem but some story I made up in my head. Really??? I got so overwhelmed, confused and frustrated over this gestured that I began to tear up. Really, when so much of my physical health has been compromised because of one tooth and to be told that the tooth doesn't seem like a problem can be a slap in the face. After he probed and poked, which agitated the sight all over again, he retracted his previous opinion and went ahead and decided that the tooth was the root of the problem...Don't you think you should have completed the evaluation before giving your premature opinion? I would have wanted someone more professional and sympathetic to my situation. Did he tell me anything I didn't already know? No. Did he make me feel like crap after, yes. Dr. Thomas is an amazing endodontist to see! He is caring, patient and thorough! He does everything to help you find the best treatment needed. He does not rush to solutions! I saw him 3 different times and each time he wanted to know how I was feeling, if there was anything he could do to help me be less nervous. Let's be honest a root canal is NOT fun but Dr. Thomas made the entire process amazing! If I ever need a root canal done again I would go to him before anyone else. Dr. Thomas treated my daughter, because she slipped and hit her front tooth on a table. The tooth started to turn black, and our regular dentist referred us to him. He was so kind and treated her as if she was his own daughter. He was very careful and precise. He took his time to make sure that the work was done good. The staff are all very kind and I will definitely go back if I have any tooth problems. I highly recommend his office to anyone that is scared or nervous to go to the dentist. Dr. Thomas came recommended from a family member and I could not be happier with his treatment. I had a really rough root canal years before so I was nervous about having another one. Dr Thomas was so gentle and professional. I had seen him for a consult on this tooth a year prior. He is totally personable and conservative with his treatment. He wouldn't do the root canal until this tooth needed it. His dental assistant was understanding and patient. I just finished my 2nd appt for the root canal. Dr. Thomas indeed is a good talker and makes you feel good, but he lacks of general professional knowledge on his own specialty endodontics, he uses sweet words instead of solid technical skills and knowledge. He showed faulty understanding for his own specialty because I already consulted other endodontists and wants to get second opinion from him. Not recommended. read more

I had a bad experience with a dentist who said my filling needed to be replaced. He did not refill it correctly and I had to get a root canal, as a result. My first ever. My heart goes out to all the people who have tooth pain. I had no idea! Dr. Thomas fixed me up. He is one of those person's with a kind heart and constantly deals with emergencies, as he did with me. His office was opened 1/2 day on the Friday I went to see him, and he stayed throughout the afternoon to work on me. He is the best at what he does. No doubt. If you're afraid of the dentist's chair, as I am, especially after a bad experience, you are best off with someone with his personality. His conversations with you or the tech make you feel at ease. He does not intimidate, and explains things in a way I understand. He has such professional staff, including his kind wife. I just had a 2nd root canal done, and I have no pain. I probably should be taking pain meds, but I have not needed even Advil. Dr. Thomas is an expert. He is alert, sharp, does a very thorough job, and takes the time to show you exactly what is going on. He is an expert, superb at his profession, plus I have the utmost respect for a man who is such a joyful family man. I am totally confused by the negative review, but it sounds like it may have come from a guy who was a hater. I wish Dr. Thomas was my general doctor!
