I was recently able to visit the dog park nearby my place since I was dog sitting. In the heart of downtown, it's nice to have a little open space for dogs to play and visit! However, this dog park is unfortunately dirty from other visitors. There were several piles of other dog's business all around and there was a heavy smell emanating from the park's trash can. I wish the city would spend some more time to help ensure this space is kept well for us dog lovers! Overall I think it is a nice spot for dogs to get some energy out, but I don't think it's meant for the little guy I was dog sitting. read more

This dog park is really cute and small. Has enough room for my two little fur babies to run around in. They have benches on both sides and poop bags and some nice decor for you to look at. I like that they have a little entry way where you can first walk in with your dog before letting them loose. It's right down the street from me and my dogs love going here. It's hidden in the middle of downtown san jose. So only locals really come here. Which is cool because you see the same dogs often. read more

Really cute with the string lights! And convenient with its location. Met some lovely people with well behaved dogs last time I went, and it wasn't too crowded (though I did go during the evening). I just don't know if I can come here again...the stench wasn't too noticeable while my pup and I were at the park, but my fur baby REAKED when I got home! I'd love to come back but don't think I can do so regularly without bathing her every time afterwards (which is very much not healthy for her coat/skin). They really need to just power hose the turf down every other day or something. But I do wish we had more parks like this especially in the more city like parts of downtown! read more

A nice downtown neighborhood dog park! Brought my three little dogs to play outdoors and I find that this location is super cute and hip! Location: Plenty of street parking near by and there is two gate enclosures to keep your pet safe inside. Clean and well maintained turfed park. Nicely lit up at night and during the day it's safe! They do have poop bags available and even a hand sanitizing dispenser but there is no running water not fountain. This place was so gross. There were so many piles of dog poop everywhere that were DAYS old. Some had mold on it. The place reeked of urine and fecal matter. We did a quick u-turn out of there because I wasn't sure what kind of disease my dog could get. I'm not sure who does the maintenance for this dog park, but it desperately needs a deep clean and for people to pick up after their dogs... SMH. read more

Very cute dog park. I am not a pet mom but if I had a dog and lived in downtown, I will spend my time in this cute little spot. I got attracted to the mural, is all I have to say. And that mystery of having to open a door not knowing if you will be welcomed or not (as no dog by my side, just my phone camera and my curiosity) was to tempting to pass. I went for an early morning walk with Cako and we were heading toward San Pedro Square when I saw Hart's across the street. I thought wow, a dog park in the city. Both gates were wide open when we walked up. We went in and closed both. I let her run around. She pooped and yes, there are no bags, but people should carry some just in case. It is small, which is a shame. I felt it could've been extended if that was possible. Yes, some people did not pick up after themselves. I hate that. It gives us responsible dog owners a bad name. While we were there, another dog owner came in, so Cako got to play with a new friend. The owner said he normally doesn't play with other dogs, but Cako is a flirt, so they ran around for a bit. It is nice that it's there. I don't like artificial turf but it worked. It just needs to be hosed down at least every other day. I would come back and visit if in the area. Cako approves! read more

This feels like a project Leslie Knope would've worked on, and I'm all about that. It's pretty much a micro dog park slash art mural right in the middle of Downtown San Jose. I rarely see dogs here, though we've brought Pico a few times. The grass is artificial turf, there are a few toys scattered about, some seating for owners, and it's all fenced off. Not a big play area but good for some meeting & greeting for the pups. For a DT resident, I'm sure this is super convenient. I can imagine going for a morning walk, grabbing a coffee, and then letting the dog do his thing while sitting & sipping. If you're not from the area, parking is a little tricky (though not as bad these days). Still worth checking it out if you're near DTSJ and wanna treat the dog to some fresh air and yourself to some cool street art--the mural there is legit. read more

Not sure if it was the amount of dog urine or human urine that stunk up the park. You can smell the odor as you walk on by. When you enter it gets even stronger. Nice concept, but maintenance is required once in a while for patrons to enjoy. Plus side, enclosed with plenty of poop bags available. Beautiful art work. Potential is there. read more

And then here's the list: Pros 1) It's in the middle of downtown (can go for excursions) 2) artificial grass (less maintenance, not as dusty) 3) toys (to keep fur babies busy 4) plenty of benches to sit on 5) nice murals surrounding the walls Cons 1) it's dirty (a bunch of tiny I don't know what, plastic pieces?). Kind of wanted to bring my picker to clean it out 2) kind of smells (is there maintenance to this park?) 3) it's dirty (people don't pick up after their fur babies) no bueno.. and flies.. 4) parking 5) no water In the middle of so much traffic I can see why it would be so neglected. The trash can is so far and few in between. People complained about not having bags but, why don't you have some yourself..?!? (This one happened to have some). Clean? Probably when it was first opened. It's kind of in an alleyway so, I can see it being a trap for wind blowing all the garbage from the streets inside. I was dog sitting my friends' dog in downtown San Jose. While randomly walking she pulled me in the direction of this tiny dog park. It's tiny and tucked in between 2 buildings and completely adorable. When we arrived there were 2 other dogs there so it was a perfect party. She loved it and they all had fun. This dog park has plenty of seating, not that it gets used when you are at the dog park but it's a perk. They keep their poop bags stocked up which is great. The downside is that there isn't water and it's a really tiny dog park. Brenda had a great time with the 2 friends she met there and it was perfect for the 3 of them. read more

This little hidden dog park is the trendiest in town. Its tucked between two buildings which can only been seen when driving on Santa Clara street. My husband and I decided to stop by and check it out since we were in the area. When we arrived there was one other dog there. I wish this park was a little bigger, had a water fountain and poop bags. What I didn't like was there was a bunch of dog poop in the dog park that wasn't picked up. Apparently the dog owners didn't bring their own bags (the park dispenser was out). I would be willing to give this dog park another try, it is a cute place. read more

5 stars for the free space and location! Minus 1 only because there is no access to water. Whoever put this place together was thoughtful enough to provide toys and water dishes, so just be sure to BYOB (beverage--water) if it is really hot and your pups get very thirsty. During opening week this place had tons of toys to play with but they lasted about 2 weeks and now only two plastic/rubber items remain. Also, BYOB (ball lol). I am a dog walker so I bring the kids here almost every weekday. The park is supplied with free poo bags which is a huge bonus! The park has Brady Bunch grass (it's fake) but does not have filthy dirt or dust or rocks (or broken glass) like the Axis' space nearby (behind Andy's Pet Shop -- volunteers do plan to make enhancements to that space in the future). Anyhow, Hart's just completed a mural of a lady and her dog (painted by the lady's sister) and in general this is a great space! read more

This is a great place downtown for dogs. Part of the appeal is it's not very crowded and it's a small space that is well maintained. AstroTurf, plenty of bench seating, nice plants, and Groundwerx visits everyday to sweeping and maintenance. Because not many people bring their dogs here, it's perfect with just enough room for 1, 2, or 3 dogs at a time. There is no running water here but it's not an issue. Bring your own water. Otherwise, there are plenty of businesses nearby to purchase a water bottle. read more

Crazy...You're driving by & you're like- oh! A Dog park! Slapped right dab in a funny spot in between buildings downtown by San Pedro Square. Seems like a goofy spot....I guess if you live close by and walk your dog down town? I do not walk my dig downtown - though I live on 3rd. My preference is wide open spaces for more exercise. It is small, so for my Chihuahua that was ok...not recommended for larger breeds for sure. I bring bags, but none were provided- which in Santa Cruz ( I'm new to the "valley") is status quo. Also, my Tinkerbell is always thirsty- no water...so another miss. I D K- I 'led just assume go to Vasona park or another park to walk her. It is a weird local and tiny. The park also has complimentary baggies in case you forget your own. As a dog walker, I really appreciate this little addition. The park is small and make from turf, so it does smell a bit like pee. There's no separation for big and small dogs, all dogs are welcome to play in one whole area. This is by far the cutest dog park I have ever seen & a fun place to enjoy with your dogs!

I actually like this cute spot ! It's is small, but I think it's perfect for a quick playtime with your pup if you're on the go. The only down side is that, yes, it does smell from all the doggy potty business, but it's not an unbearable stench either. There's also this really sweet elderly man that enjoys being there himself, giving treats & planing a water bowl for the pups. He doesn't have a dog of his own but it's nice to see him enjoying the company of pups. If your dog is on a special diet, kindly let him know & he'll know not to give your pup treats. read more

I had a nice enough experience with my terrier mix when we were alone or nearly alone, except that parking isn't available for a block or two. So it's better for those within walking distance. But the last time I went there, two large dogs bombarded me in the entry way as I held my little terrified dog's leash, my cane, and her poop bag since she'd gone just outside, and their owners just watched. Then a very large aggressive dog followed mine under the bench I was sitting on and barked frighteningly. Its owner came over and tried to talk his dog into stopping as I wondered if mine was being bit because of her screeching. He finally dragged his dog away. Lots of very large dogs needing a place to fetch and run, but like a pedestrian on a freeway if you're little. Glad it's there for big dogs that live nearby, but not good for us. read more

I was just walking through downtown one day and randomly stumbled upon this dog park. It's very small but it's good enough if you're around the area with your furry friend. It smells kinda bad sometimes but the place looks so cute and hip. There's a mural on one side, and on the opposite side there's another wall with the name of the dog park. Visually, this place is really cute. Realistically, it's not the best dog park. I like that it's closed in so that you're not worried your dog will run off (our dog is still a puppy so that's why this is still on our minds lol!) It is pretty dirty.. I don't understand why other dog owners just leave their dog's business. There's clean up bags available - use them! You have to pay for parking, which is obviously a big bummer.
