Decades later, it hasn't lost an ounce of its charm, and I truly can't recommend it enough. Don't let the classic cafeteria-style setup fool you; the moment you reach the counter, you're greeted by an amazing, welcoming staff and a vast spread of delicious comfort food. My absolute go-to is the hot turkey dinner, it's like having Thanksgiving year-round with all the fixings. My sister usually opts for the hot roast beef sandwich (or dinner plate), which is just as incredible. To top it all off, they have a fantastic bar and a great outdoor patio. A total classic that never disappoints! Highly recommend

Parking was fairly easy to find, we immediately found a spot on a Saturday afternoon. They operate cafeteria style basically. You get in line, you order what you want from the carvery, and pay. We stood off to the side to study the menu before hopping in line as it was our first time. I ordered the roast turkey sandwich on dutch crunch bread, which they dipped in jus for me. They also asked if I had a preference for white or dark meat, which was very nice. I chose a mix. After I opted for all the toppings, the carver complimented my sandwich choices. So I knew I was in for a good meal! My boyfriend opted for a half roast turkey sandwich on white bread, mac and cheese, and the soup of the day. We found a table pretty easily and I liked the assortment of mustard at the table. Decor was very charming and old fashioned, but I liked it! Workers were bussing tables around us and working very hard. We're both looking forward to our next visit, very enjoyable experience! Service was great from start to finish!

I do like how they have a lot of fresh options and a lot of the grab and go options looked good as well - I saw a lot of folks making salads at the salad bar. I thought the servers were all friendly and there were a lot of meatless choices. I didn't think the soup selection was as good as the one at Tibco, but it's nice they had two choices. I had the panini and it was really good and comes with your choice of side, including having a side of asparagus if you want to be healthier. (I got the fries.) I also really like that they have a large variety of fruit-infused waters available for free. The price seems comparable to other places in the area and also I heard that if you are an actual Varian employee you get a discount, which seems nice. I could definitely see that if you were working here, they mix up the menu enough so that you could avoid getting into too much of a lunch rut. For a visitor, I did find that the cafe didn't seem quite large enough, many of the tables were full. Also it was a little hard to find visitor parking, and I ended up just parking in one of the open lots. My car wasn't towed, so not really an issue as far as I can tell.

BUSINESS LUNCH This…read morecafe is located on Varian Medical Systems campus. Yes, even if you don't work there you are more than welcome to eat there. When I am working at the Southbay office I am surrounded by first world problems. 1) unfamiliar with the area and don't know where to eat 2) it's not the city it's Silicon Valley so seeking a place to eat is minimal 3) selections... There aren't many. The trick is to goto other corporation/HQ's campuses and eat at their cafes. Scored me a great place! Selections selections selections AND AFFORDABLE PRICING! On yelp it says they close at 4. That's a lie, it's actually 2pm. Maybe the espresso bar connected to the cafe is open until 4 and that's not the cafe. Service is predominantly self serve but the staff were so friendly - I appreciate friendly staff! They have a variety and to name a few: salad and soup bar, grill station, deli station, pizza etc etc etc. all items were priced decent for its portion. That sounds like a fairytale when considering working in Silicon Valley! I kept my first experience simple. If simple can impress me I'll be back for the other heavier goods. MINESTRONE SOUP - cup or bowl, your choice. Self portion control, pour as you please. The soup was very hearty and tasty. It want overloaded with sodium and didn't put me in an afternoon food commas behind my computer! SALAD BAR - they charge by pound. Their salad bar was "off the hook" with a lot of healthy options. I didn't know where to begin with all these selections to choose from. I must recommend getting the sweet potato dish located next to the soups. It was phenomenal! I can eat an entire plate of it by itself. FRUIT SHAKE - super healthy. It had a mixed of fruit, Greek yogurt, and honey. Kind of pricy ($4.95 for a small) but it was needed because Southbay is hot. Will I be back! Yup..

It's not overly fancy, and it feels like that good hearty meal that you would get at home... in Europe. I love it! The portions are fairly generous, and everything tastes super fresh, and is served with care. I originally thought I would have the breakfast sandwich, but ended up getting the classic two egg breakfast. My eggs were poached perfectly, the blueberry pancakes were topped with fresh blueberries, and powdered sugar with just combined together, took the flavors to the next level. The bacon was absolutely divine, but let's talk about the potatoes. They were buttery, crisp, fully flavored homestyle potatoes that make you want to put potatoes into their own food group. The service was great, the food was great, and this is definitely a restaurant that needs to be explored because everything on the menu sounds absolutely delicious! Parking was fairly easy, and I'm really excited to return and try more of the menu items.

However, we parked in the lot and were able to get a seat right away. Despite having a stroller, nobody asked if we needed a booster seat/high chair, so I went to go get one myself... We ended up ordering two of the Joanie's Breakfast Medleys, mine with french toast and chicken apple sausage, and my wife's with pancakes and bacon. Although it was a decently sized plate, I guess I expected a bit more for over $25...the french toast was like two halves of one slice, but the chicken apple sausage and potatoes were good. Coffee was nice as well, and they kept coming by to refill, which was nice and needed. However disaster struck when one of the waiters knocked off a tray from a ledge right by our table. The tray crashed onto our table and spilled water, hot coffee, and creamer all over me, and our under two year old who started crying. I rushed over to check for burns from the coffee, but luckily it was okay. After the clean-up I was waiting to see if anyone might come by to ask if anything was needed, let me know if I could get more food since I wasn't entirely finished, or at least apologize and comp our meal. Unfortunately I didn't get any replacement food, and they brought the bill and mentioned that we didn't have to pay for coffee...$68 pre-tip was a little upsetting after our experience, even though I know accidents can happen... Of course, later on I smelled spoilt because of the creamer/milk that was still on my clothes after walking around the Farmer's Market...lovely...
