When we pulled up at the Shasta Lake Boat Launch (Parking is $15 btw) Eric already had the boat…read morelaunched, and sitting at the dock ready for us to board. The sunrise over Lake Shasta was gorgeous. The early morning start was perfect for beating the summer heat and the wake from all the water sport boaters. Within 10-15 minutes of being on the water, and poles in for less than 5- we got our first bite. A beautiful rainbow trout! The bite was pretty consistent from there on out- Eric knew the right areas to fish & had all the equipment to get us to the depths we needed to be at. His set up on the boat is very dialed in & even with two or 3 fish on at once, he makes it easy. By lunch our family had already caught 30+ fish. We threw back a bunch of spotted bass and lost a number of large trout. At the end of the day, we went home with 26 trout (rainbow and browns) and 4 keeper sized bass. Eric kept the fun going, was enjoyable to be around and made the process so simple on us. He's even willing to help process the catch at the end of the day. 10/10 stars for Eric and his guiding service. We'd recommend a day on the lake with him to just about anyone we know- avid fisherman and newbies alike. Thanks for everything Eric!

But our experience from the beginning to end was extraordinary. And in the beginning, we also called him like 100 times because we kept getting lost but he was patient and directed us back. Gave us advice to pick up snacks for the calm parts of the river - which we were thankful for 2 hours in to the 3 hour rental. Gave us safety guidelines that were also worth knowing about the river- we definitely would of panicked as there are several bends and just keep in mind the first 3 bridges come fast and then the last two take quite some time as we did sign up for the 6 hour tour. Went out for a guided trip with Matt Atkins yesterday on lake Shasta. I have been fishing on my own…read morefor the last year and a half, figuring things out solo and using YouTube (we all know how that can be ) As a birthday gift to myself, I went out with Matt and brought my father in law. We did the 6 hour trip, and I learned how to fish/ caught fish on 3 different baits that I had never caught fish on before, and my father in law caught his first decent black (spotted) bass. Matt has been fishing Shasta for years and had no trouble putting us on fish even in less than ideal conditions. He was super patient with us, I left with a lot more confidence and know that I will be a better angler because of the time I spent fishing with him. Thank you Matt, we had a great time.
