My issue is with how I was treated after expressing understandable disappointment over a last-minute cancellation of a Father's Day charter that had significant emotional value and required planning around limited availability. After simply asking whether any alternate guides or solutions were available, I received a response stating they were "extremely disappointed" in me and implying I lacked empathy. As a paying customer, I believe it was reasonable to be disappointed and ask questions. Two things can be true at once: their guide suffered a tragic loss, and their handling of customer communication was unnecessarily defensive and unprofessional. I would have appreciated empathy and professionalism instead of being reprimanded for my reaction.

I came across The Reel Thing July 27, 2016. My cousin and I had just pulled the boat up into the shade so we could start prepping it for the week ahead of fishing. Shortly after we began our setup a gentleman came down the hill in a golf cart. He circled around the boat and asked, "Are you guys going to be here long?" We replied with a friendly no. The next thing you know this gentleman introduced himself as Bob and began telling us about the fish. Bob gave my cousin and I so much detailed information our brains almost exploded. Bob then let it be known he is a guide on Shasta and has many years on Shasta and other lakes. Bob's friendly demeanor and willingness to provide so much information to non paying people was so amazing. He was not trying to sell us a guided trip. He didn't tell us to get off his lake. He told us that he loves giving out the information because it is what he loves to do. Put people on the fish! Bob Telles put us on the fish alright. But our experience from the beginning to end was extraordinary. And in the beginning, we also called him like 100 times because we kept getting lost but he was patient and directed us back. Gave us advice to pick up snacks for the calm parts of the river - which we were thankful for 2 hours in to the 3 hour rental. Gave us safety guidelines that were also worth knowing about the river- we definitely would of panicked as there are several bends and just keep in mind the first 3 bridges come fast and then the last two take quite some time as we did sign up for the 6 hour tour.
