Stopped in today and asked if I could order a dozen of sugar cookies half frosted pink and half blue frosted for a baby revealing party. She told me oh they don't frosted cookies, so I look down in their glass display and there are cookies all decorated with flowers and lady bugs etc. I said to her well those are decorated cookies right? She then asked me when I need them by and I told her sat which is 5 days from now and she says oh we are booked for Saturday! This is one of the owners. I've lived 20 away minutes from Harvey's Bakery my entire life and today was the first time I had ever been in. We walked in to find three lovely ladies bustling behind the pastry counter and what looked to be quite the line waiting to get their sweets. What we didn't know was that the people in "line" were waiting to get into the coffee shop, a little confusing but we figured it out when one of the women behind the counter called us out to ask what we would like. The display of donuts, cream filled turnovers, cakes, pies, breads, etc was amazingly beautiful, I had a hard time choosing just two things, but I managed to get out of there without eating the entire display case! We decided on two maple round donuts, a regular glazed donut and a raspberry cream filled turnover. The maple round was to die for, unlike most places around here that just slap a maple glaze on top of the donut, this was more of a maple frosting and it was amazing. The glazed donut was simply delicious, so fresh and tasty. I have not eaten the raspberry cream turnover yet, but by the looks of it, I'm sure I'll enjoy it! If you're in the area, you must stop in, if not just for some good conversation with some women who truly enjoy what they do, but for the absolutely delicious pastries. read more

I have been visiting this place off and on for years. The one thing that brings me back is a bakery item, the Cream Filled Maple Round. If you like maple frosting with the most delicious creamy filling stuffed into a raised donut then this is a must stop. This review is totally for the coffee shop. While my food is only 3 star, my wife's breakfast (served all day) and the staff, especially our waitress (I think her name was Lauren) adds at least 3 more stars. We walked up here after playing a couple of hours with our 6 year old granddaughter at the Children's Museum of New Hampshire. Unfortunately, our granddaughter had a very loose tooth. They had a good children's menu but we all agreed that the only thing she could probably eat was the mac and cheese. She even had a hard time with that, then on the second bite, magic happened, the tooth came out. She was too excited to eat for a bit, but managed it through half of her mac and cheese. Even though their kids menu says "Eat all your meal and get a Harvey's Treat: cookie,cup cake or donut" the waitress got her a cupcake. I had the "Harvey's Pick a Pair" with clam chowder, one ham and one chicken filled Vienna Rolls, and potato salad. The clam chowder was good and what I expect for a New England Clam Chowder; rolls were filling, but pretty standard stuff. My wife went for one of their summer special breakfasts with blueberry crepes, two eggs, sausage, bacon and potatoes. In all the excitement over the loose tooth, I forgot to take pictures, especially of my wife's plates, but the crepes looked amazing. I almost wished I had gone with what she got. To finish off our meal, my wife got a slice of coconut cream pie and I got a slice of chocolate cream pie with I shared with my granddaughter. read more

Eggs were cooked properly, but how hard is that? House sourdough toast was amazing, as to be expected from a place with "bakery" in its name. All in all a forgettable breakfast. The bakery however, is almost ALWAYS a slam dunk. Crazy amount of pastries, and they are all expertly created. But for a breakfast, barely mediocre. Their pies and cakes are amazing. A friend brought over an apple pie, pecan pie, and a pumpkin harvest cake and they were all incredible. I have never had such a good pecan pie before. It's never my go-to pie but that one was the front runner for me tonight! I also love their chocolate lovers cake and the cinnamon rolls. I want to love this place and give it five stars but consistently, every single time I order a cake (more than half a dozen at this point) whoever takes my order acts like it's an inconvenience. I get it, they are busy but I struggle with Harvey's lackluster attitude towards cake orders even with plenty of advance notice. I went a few times for breakfast and again, was met with lackluster service and food. If you're looking for a classic cake and don't mind a side of attitude, Harvey's is your place. Ps. Harvey's has been our "go to" bakery since 1999. Every birthday has been marked with a cake from Harvey's. Love the Orange Chiffon cake in the summer and the tiny Danish pastries in the winter. This is an old fashioned, home town bakery. The prices are reasonable and the baked goods are fantastic. If you want something trendy then Harvey's is not for you. A real bakery, just like in the olden days! Where they bake bread, desserts, cakes, whatever! And it's staffed by friendly people! This is way better that the bakery department of the local supermarket, and it's connected to a coffee shop. The selection at 3PM today wasn't overwhelming (as you'd expect) and I'm just glad they were open. OMG! What a find. We stopped in this afternoon to get some lunch - great variety and quality food. My husband had the homemade chili and cornbread and I had breakfast(served all day) both were amazing. We stopped in the bakery on the way out. Bought the individual pork pies and a treat for dinner. The pork pies were yummy and crust flaky - just like my mom and grandmother used to make. Brought back great memories. I'll have to get some to keep in the freezer for a quick meal. read more

We like to support local businesses so we stopped by last weekend to give it a try. When trying a bakery for the first time, we start with a standard item like cookies. Those should be easy for a bakery so we tried chocolate chip cookies. The sales clerk said they were soft and delicious. This could not have been further from the truth. They were flat, dry and tasteless. Completely disgusting. Additionally, the facility is old and run down. They need to clean and update the facility and their recipes. If you would like a good bakery in the area, I strongly recommend Beach Pea in Kittery. The service, atmosphere and food are delicious! read more

Stopped in for a snack after a long day of travel - 3 homemade blueberry biscuits for $2.25! 3 blueberry muffins/$3...I'll take both please. Stopped I'm for breakfast the next day - veggie omelette, 2 choices of hot sauce and a grilled blueberry biscuit - New England heaven. Stopped in one day three - had to get blueberry goodies to take back to the family. We worked with Susan for our November wedding. We had a small 2 tier cake (maple buttercream frosting...yum!) and apple crisp donuts as well as maple squares and rounds. Everything was SO delicious. The bakery makes everything fresh and doesn't use any fondant, which were my two biggest standards. The cider donuts were all gone, and we only had a few maple squares/rounds left over (we over ordered those so we could have some for breakfast!) The squares and rounds are a good size, and very rich, so we did ask our venue to cut them in half. This helped to stretch our budget. Susan was very easy to work with and everyone raved about the donuts. I highly recommend Harvey's for your wedding desserts! read more

Women answering the phone was extremely rude multiple holds. Asking for too much personal information when processing a credit card. You should be asking for a zip code, the numbers and the expiration. You do not need my home address, the CVV my first name etc. They charge a credit card minimum also not allowed per credit card company processing requirements. Great coffee shop where locals fill the counter and everyone knows each other by first name. The breakfast is no frills but excellent (which is perfectly fine for breakfast). Don't be surprised if at some point you are offered a small piece of a danish as a tray makes its way from table to table. Lunch is equally no frills but excellent...
