Ordered the steak and cheese sub and a cheese pizza. The steak and cheese used what seemed to be a cheese sauce (more Philly cheese style which isn't my favorite). The pizza was okay, but still other places I'd go to in the area. The service was great, food came out quickly and the people working there were very friendly. I will be going here again to try to find something I like more. Downgraded from 3 to 2 stars after seeing some of the owners responses to bad reviews. Will not be returning after all. You guys really need to either Stop closing before 8pm or CHANGE your hours! This is like the 4th time in a month I've tried to stop in there and you're closed and it's 7:30! Had Katz's for the first time last month at work, amazing Italian sub! Tried it again 2 nights ago, this time I got the hungry man steak and cheese and WOW! Best steak and cheese I've ever had! It was SO full of meat and cheese, I couldn't even eat the whole thing. My mom got the scrambled hamburg sub and said it was really good, she's super picky, so that's saying something! The wife got the Fat Mac wrap, also delicious! The fries were crispy and golden brown, couldn't ask for better. We'll definitely be eating here more often, supporting our local non-chain restaurants is what we're looking to do more of and Katz's really won us over! read more

This place looks like a hole in the wall but my God come eat here. My wife grabbed the busy hill bomb and I got the belly buster. Both loaded and tasted amazing. I'd also recommend the fried pickles. I have actually watched two summers in a row the cooks dripping sweat into the food because of no AC.. I would never EVER order food from them again. After calling, asking the boy on the phone if they had any ice cream at all that wasn't chocolate. He immediately with sarcasm, says I don't know! Why don't you get up off your ass and come down and look for yourself I was in shock, humiliated and very hurt as an elderly person that's disabled. The next time I went in I was with my two granddaughters and was shocked to see that one Klondike bar was $3.99, I'm talking to my granddaughters, about the fact that I was just at Hannaford's and it was 399 for six of them for the sale they were running that week. For some reason that same man that had answered the phone and treated me like crap asked if I had a problem. I started to pay for my granddaughters ice cream's and just said I can't even afford one for myself because they are priced so high. Next time I go in, I'm not allowed to go again unless I say I'm sorry. Sorry for voicing my opinion to my granddaughter. My go to spot for picking up sandwiches in Dover before heading to the beach. The sandwiches do not lack on the amount of meat that they put in them. I would stick to the sandwiches and not the salads though. When I ordered the grilled chicken salad the lettuce was the shredded lettuce used for sandwiches and it did not come with dressing. Wanted to try this place out for awhile so while I was around Dover looking at Christmas lights my fiancé and I stopped in. I ordered a cold Turkey sub with everything but onions. When I got home (a twenty minute drive from Kaz's Deli) I opened up my sandwich to find onions. I was fine picking them off, but then I realized that there was NO TURKEY or AMERICAN CHEESE on my sandwich...it literally said large turkey on the outside of my sandwich. How do you forget that? And then when I placed my order I not only said no onions but I specified American cheese when asked. This is pretty disappointing especially since one of the workers ran out after my fiancé to tell him that they had given him the wrong sandwich. Went to find this place because of Yelp. The outside is kind of sketchy but the place was busy with call-in orders so obviously popular. We ordered 3 sandwiches to go and I heard the owner give the orders pretty clearly--1 tuna, 1 veggie, 1 chicken parm. Got to where we were meeting friends and I had 2 tuna sandwiches, 1 chicken parm. Katz's Deli is the bomb. Steak Bomb that is! We love their steak and cheese subs. Subs are huge. The steak is tender and melts in your mouth. Their large subs are substantial and include plenty of meat and toppings. Katz's uses Piantadosi Bakery rolls which are nice, especially if you get it toasted. We have tried the Pastrami. It's a great sub. The meat is chopped rather than sliced. Also got the 1lb. cheese and steak. But the large is plenty large. My only wish is that they sold some of their meats by the pound. I'm a single mother of three children. I have been going down to Katz Deli for years now. For the last few years I have been struggling financially. I have almost lost my place 6 times in the last 2 years. Which means I'm working over time to pay bills on time. Yesterday I had ordered myself some food from work and wasn't hungry by the time I got home. I had decided to be nice and order my children some subs. Mind you this is the first time we have ordered out in over 7 months (due to being broke). While sitting there waiting on the food I observed the pay it forward board had a paper on it for a roll of toilet paper. After paying all my bills with almost every penny I had, I was refused and declined a simple roll of toilet paper (again on the pay it forward board) which means someone pre bought that for someone in need. Yet I was declined that roll of toilet paper because I had made a food purchase. Apparently buying food once to reward my kids for all their hard work while I'm struggling, that purchase must have meant I have enough for toilet paper. I found that very rude and disrespectful. My son removed that paper. Walked over. Grabbed the toilet paper and we were told no. Which made my son feel bad because he was just trying to help me. So huge shout out to the lady at Katz Deli for making us look stupid for no reason. People pay for that for people in need. It isn't your choice to decide whether or not we NEED it because we also made a purchase. Also, pay it forward is for anyone. Money or not! You don't get to choose who gets it and who doesn't. If I pull up to a Dunkin's and the lady in front of me pays for my coffee, and I pull up in a Lexus, you think the teller would be like "sorry you don't look like you really need this free coffee". The chili verde is one of the best such dishes I've ever had, and it blows away almost anything else on the Seacoast. Get it on the tater tots with cheese or on my favorite sandwich (which I have personally made): three fried eggs, three hash browns, and American cheese on a toasted grinder roll! Mike's pizza is fantastic, too. As long as he has it in stock, he'll make anything you want (though don't be afraid to try standards such as the breakfast sandwiches--which really are as he says: the best in Dover [the man doesn't need to lie when he's telling the truth]). Only one pleading request: Please bring back Stoneface Rye! (Please?) That's the best beer in New Hampshire, and I was always glad to be able to pick up a bottle and bring it back with my three fried egg, three hash brown, American cheese, and chili verde sandwich or chili and cheese or verde and cheese tots. read more

Place was unfortunately recommended by a local. Breakfast sandwich was just Mids. Eggs all burnt. Who likes that nasty plastic layer of eggs you have to peel off? Or the little omega and protein nutritional value burnt away because someone making the food just doesn't care because there not the one eating it. If the place wasn't such a dump I would have brought it back and said wtf is this? I wouldn't mind but the place isn't necessarily cheap. Katz's Deli is a "you must go!" Their breakfast sandwiches are great, the burgers are great, the deli sandwiches are great and the portion sizes are fantastic. My personal favorite is the Rueben sub. This sandwich is so good that I have to pretend I don't know it exists to prevent myself from indulging in one several times a week. Mike and his staff are always friendly and welcoming and I enjoy the local atmosphere. If you are pressed for time you can call ahead and they will have everything ready when you arrive or you can walk in and order. Katz's is off the main drag a a few blocks, but so worth the trouble of seeking it out.
