When we got to our room we were amazed on how big the space was. We all had plenty of room so there was no overlapping of space between 3 people and there was plenty of nearby restaurants that we were able to walk to and Railroad Park to enjoy a day in the sun. The breakfast was good considering it was the holidays and the mini store was reasonably priced. My wife said that she would love to make this our regular hotel whenever we come in town. Great job!

I recently stayed at Home2 Suites by Hilton in downtown Birmingham on 18th Street, and…read moreunfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. The main reason we chose this location was because of the excellent experience we previously had at the Home2 Suites location in Hoover, Alabama. That property was superb, so we expected the same level of cleanliness and service. Unfortunately, the downtown Birmingham location fell far short of those expectations. Upon entering our room, it was clear that cleanliness was an issue. The bathroom sink had brown residue in it, the shower floor was dirty, and there was hair throughout the bathroom. I actually had to clean the bathroom myself before feeling comfortable using it. The couch in the room was also covered in visible stains, making it unusable for us during our stay. To make matters worse, the ironing board completely fell apart while we were trying to iron our clothes. As a result, we had to iron our clothing on the bed, which is far from ideal and does not provide the same results as using a properly functioning ironing board. This was another indication that the room furnishings and equipment were not being adequately maintained. I will say that the beds were comfortable, and the hotel's downtown location is very convenient. Being close to restaurants, entertainment, and other attractions was definitely a plus. Another major concern was the parking situation. Guests are required to pay for self-parking, yet there was rarely any available parking. To make matters worse, catering vehicles from Taziki's, a restaurant located across from the hotel, appeared to be occupying spaces in the hotel parking area. Those spaces should be reserved for paying hotel guests. While the location is excellent, that alone does not make up for poor cleanliness, poorly maintained furnishings, and a lack of attention to the overall guest experience. This stay was a stark contrast to the outstanding experience we had at the Hoover location. Because of that, we will not be returning to this particular property. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary improvements so future guests can have a better experience.

The room overlooked a couple of buildings but it was a nice view to see some of the local businesses. We saw many apartments in the area from our window view. The room was nice and quiet and the hotel was as well (except for our children lol). There were double dark room shades in the room to ensure the daylight would not disturb our sleep. The tub was spacious and the room had a very nice long table to utilize. There was a mini fridge, microwave and keurig that were nice to have. The room was clean upon arrival and our check in was nice, quick and convenient thanks to the mobile app. The staff has been very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Even when they were very busy, they made sure the experience was nice. They went over and above to ensure our comfort.

My flight to Birmingham was cancelled upon arrival in Chicago at 9:30p and I could not get another flight to Birmingham for 24 hours, too late to attend my meeting. The issue: the reservation only provided a customer service number to "Customer Care" (an apparent south Asian company) who stated, after me waiting on hold for 45 minutes, that the 'guest hotel' did not "pick up their phone". So Customer Care was not able to tell the hotel I had to cancel due to a cancelled flight. No direct phone number to the hotel was given on my reservation confirmation paperwork. I was told by Customer Care I would receive confirmation of their contacting the hotel within 24 hours. TEN days later I still did not receive a confirmation that Customer Care contacted the hotel and was sent an email that same day that the hotel denied my request to cancel 10 days earlier and denied my request for a refund. So: -no obvious way to directly contact this hotel via reservation paperwork, only Customer Care -they did not pick up a call from their own contracted customer service provider -it took 10 days for their customer service provider to get back to me after multiple requests for an update -Hilton refused even a one day refund of the 2 days charged me for a cancellation that was completely out of my control due to an airline flight cancellation No reason to ever consider Hilton again

The small couch in the main bedroom was a statement piece, but not exactly inviting. But overall the rooms were interesting. Breakfast didn't seem to be very popular when we were there as there weren't many guests at it, and they didn't deliver the cash box timely so paying with cash was an ordeal. The rooftop bar was a nice place to sit and quiet enough to have a conversation. The view over the city was nice to have, although not especially exciting. Valet parking was quick and easy, and the only option. It was conveniently located downtown with a bunch of food options around, including coffee shops. I wish I'd gotten a receipt as I left rather than waiting for an email because the email hadn't come by two days after, and the stay wasn't showing up in the app--not great, Marriott. When I called to get it I was on hold for quite a while--revising my review to lower from 4 stars for being adequate to good, to 3 stars because I had to wait in hold for over 16 minutes two days after my stay to get someone there on the phone to send me the bill for my stay, when it should have been sent immediately after I check out and automatically. The stay turned into a hassle with no respect for my time.

The building has a beautiful historic feel, and I like that they've maintained some of that old Birmingham charm rather than making everything feel overly modern and generic. The location is also convenient if you're attending an event downtown or want to be close to the theatre district, restaurants, and other attractions. One of the highlights is the rooftop bar. The views of downtown are beautiful, especially around sunset, and it's a nice place to grab a drink without leaving the hotel. Service is generally warm and welcoming, which makes a difference, particularly in an older property where a few things may not feel as updated as a newer hotel. Parking is valet only through the hotel, so that is something to factor into your stay as well. Great downtown location, historic charm, good hospitality, and a rooftop worth checking out. I'd stay again, particularly if I needed to be in downtown Birmingham.

I would rate this Hilton property 0 stars if we could. We are loyal Hilton Diamond members and have stayed at multiple Hilton properties around the world. This was one of the worst properties we have ever stayed at. We stayed here in February and from the time we attempted to check in, it was disappointing. We were upgraded due to our Diamond status and upon checking into our room it was absolutely disgusting. The bedsheets appeared dingy and the bathroom was gross. There was hair on the ground and a vomit stain on the tile. So vile! We called downstairs right away and were moved to another room that was not much better. However, we were there for a family function and has other guests arriving that we has suggested the hotel to. We did notify the manager on duty and he told us he would escalate our concerns. The next day, the hotel manager, Tonya was on sight and sat down and spoke to us regarding the issues. She agreed that our experience was 100% unacceptable and promised to compensate our Hilton Honors points for our entire stay. She assured us that she would make this happen. Also, despite our complaints and meeting with her, our room was never even serviced by house keeping our entire stay. Now over 1 month later after no follow-up call or email, we contacted her and at first she acted as if she has no idea what we were talking about. Then she stated she escalated the issue to corporate but was unauthorized to issue more than 20,000 points, which covers absolutely nothing. And stated there was not really anything for her to do! She totally and outright lied to us, after she had assured us in person and in an email that our entire points would be compensated. She even had the audacity to even yell at us on the phone. This is not the type of experience I expect as a loyal Hilton Diamond Member. In conclusion avoid this disgusting and poor quality Hilton property at all costs.

The hotel location is central and there are a variety of restaurant and shops you can walk to and many other options not too far a drive. There are only 2 elevators in one area of the building, so you have to wait a while. - coin laundry on the 6th floor with pools of water on the floor - the kitchen sink is leaky so every time you use it, water is coming out on the counter The place itself is clean enough, there's complimentary breakfast. Parking is $25 - if you street park it's cheaper using the park mobile app (though it may be annoying trying to find a spot).
