We ate here as we saw this on the way to San Antonio. We ordered the double double meal and single cheese burger. They were cooked consistently. In and out is always so consistent! The meat is yummy and the veggies are fresh. You can get the fries with the sauce and grilled onions added. I tried. I tried so hard. First, let me say. The service is excellent. They are friendly. Warm. Welcoming. The store was immaculate. I cannot get past the food here to give 5*. The fires are the biggest issues. I saw them tray and thought for sure everything was going to taste as yummy as it looked. Once again, I was bamboozled. The fries taste like paper. Cardboard is probably a better word. The burgers are juicy and there's plenty of cheese. It will make your tummy hurt for hours after tho. I am happy to report tho, the soda tastes like soda. On Saturday July 19, 2025 I went to In&Out Burgers to get take lunch for a crew working on our residence. I am having knee replacement surgery soon and a wear a knee brace and walk with a cain. When I was picking up my order to go, a very nice lady named Georgete was loading condiments into the bags and she niticed my cain and brace and asked me if I neede hepl carrying the lunch to my car. I said I thought I could do it myself but she practically begged me so I said OK. She opened my car for me and loaded everyting nice and neatly and opened my door for me. She was so ggracious, helpful and kind and I was so touched by her good deed. While it's hard to resist comparing any Texas based In-N-Out to their far superior sister locations in California / Nevada, they're simply not the same animal (#1). A manager once told me that it was largely due to produce being less steller here than out west, but even then, this San Marcos location is just somewhere in the middle for me. Hence, 3 stars. On the plus side, the customer service is friendly and the drive-thru experience has been fairly quick. This is a good thing because it's constantly busy here, especially during weekends and good weather days. I still prefer coming here at night, even if it means the drive-thru lines are long. If dining in, it's clean and spacious enough for small groups. (#2) The food is fine. I enjoy a good double double with animal style fixings. The fries are nothing to write home about and that's with/within and the shakes are lactose inducing (but really tasty). While I will normally munch happily on any of these burgers, I still find myself missing the food from the west coast. They make for a solid road trip fare (#3), which at the end of the day, is what this location is for me. ______________ (#1) Animal style, even. Us Texans don't really care for In n Out the way Californians do, but after having lived in Los Angeles for almost 20 years, you sort of get used to it. Not the fries, though. The fries will forever need help. So it was nice to see In n Out here in Texas. And it was especially nice that there were only TWO cars in line here instead of HUNDREDS of cars in line like at EVERY location in Los Angeles. The taste is still the same. I am a local and I have not been to our In-N-Out in 3 years. I ordered a #2 combo and the burger was burnt. The outer part of the bun was also burnt and hard. It was simply disgusting. So I unloaded the family and hauled them in to N and Out. Lol I had to say that. We hear a lot about this burger chain and figured let's check it out. The burgers are good but not amazing. The old 60's look the employees have is pretty cool. This place has been compared to Whataburger and the truth is it's a burger, but it's not a Whataburger because that burger is just what a burger should be. My kids like the shakes, I however liked my food accept the fries they taste like those shoe string fries in a can that I ate as a kid. I won't say anything bad, the burgers are ok I just won't dry to San Marcus to get one and if they build one in Houston it can't be next to a Whataburger. I usually order the off-menu / not-so-secret option of "Animal Style". My traveling crew this time loathes onions so they elected Animal Style sans onions. I have had In-N-Out in A few different locations and when I requested mayonnaise they usually give me a packet of mayonnaise. In any case I do enjoy their food, Economical prices and Speedy service. I am however not a fan of their French fries they'll do in a pinch but I'm much more prefer larger thicker fries similar to what Burger King or Five Guys serves. The other day we went to Whataburger and passed by an In-N-Out and we knew we were going to try it by the end of our trip. I ordered a Protein Style Double Double (the burger where the bun is replaced by lettuce) and some Animal Style Fries. The burger was incredible! The meat was obviously fresh and juicy and not to mention flavorful while not needing any additional condiments. This burger stands alone very well. The Animal Style Fries were also yummy, but had I only gotten regular fries, I probably would not have finished them because they tasted/looked a bit burnt and soggy.
