Can't even get them to answer the phone, but with all the bad reviews about this company don't know if I will even keep trying.

Mike is easy to deal with and helpful. I would highly recommend calling ahead to schedule an appointment with him.

Considering I've been going to the same practice for the last 20+ years, I think Big Bend Family…read moreEye Care did pretty well attending me on my first visit. First and foremost, they took my insurance, well my prior vision insurance (as my company now changed insurance this year, but that's another conversation for another day), and that in itself is a godsend. There weren't a lot of practices taking my insurance. Then, there's the caveat that the ones that were weren't taking new patients, and if they were, it was quite some time ahead. Big Bend managed to get me in within a couple of weeks for my annual check-up. That said, finding this place was a little difficult as the GPS did not want to cooperate. Luckily there are big signs outside that are easy to see. Everyone at the office was really nice, but more impressive still is the fact that I did not have my pupils dilated given all the new technology they have. I walked out of there with my prescription for both glasses and contacts sans problem. They even recommended a LASIK place to me. Overall, I liked my experience there. Dr. Malone was personal and professional, and she just made me feel at ease. Here's hoping my new vision insurance is taken by them when the time comes. I don't want to go through the ordeal of finding another eye doctor in Tallahassee.

I get frequent headaches and often feel like I'm straining just to see text clearly. During eye exams, when I say that none of the lens options look sharp, she still chooses the one that's closest to my old prescription -- saying she doesn't want to "make my eyes worse" by increasing it. But if I'm constantly straining to see, doesn't that make things worse too? I've had a lower-strength prescription in the past that gave me better clarity than what I have now. perhaps the eye straining is what is making it worse. but to her, she says it's still the same. I don't want to ignore her advice, but I also don't want to keep walking away from appointments feeling like I'm not being heard, and again needing to strain my eyes until next year where the same thing happens all over again. I'm considering seeing another doctor just to get a second opinion.

When I got the text it just said the appointment time and date. There was nothing to click on or instruction to confirm. The receptionist was also extremely rude and dismissive. Therefore, when I had a check up at the Hour Glass, they noticed I wore gas permeable contact lenses and wanted to show everyone and their mother what they looked like when on a human eye. I know Tallahassee is small so there is less exposure to different situations; but come on, this is the 21st century. Please. Then, once my eyes were fully dilated, they noticed a scar on the back of my eye that I've had for over a decade now, which my usual eye specialist has been monitoring carefully. But of course, this was a rare occurrence for them, as well. They had the audacity to ask me whether it would be ok if they had the intern come in and look at my eye. After spending an hour and a half at the office already, I was getting mighty impatient, and did not appreciate being a lab rat. After waiting an additional five minutes for them to find the intern who was in another examination room, I left Hour Glass very disappointed in their service and the way they treated me as a patient. As a customer, the experience is not as bad. I bought a pair of glasses here, and they took me through tens of twenties of pairs to find the perfect frames. My salesperson was very honest and helped me find a great pair to fit my face and style. There aren't many options for eye doctors in Tallahassee, so I recommend looking elsewhere. If you want a place to find nice quality frames and lenses, the Hour Glass is a good option.

I've been here twice now and I've waited close to an an hour both times to be seen by the ophthalmologist. This is with a scheduled appointment in advance. My first visit was for a scheduled exam and the doctor rushed my exam, made a drastic change in my prescription which I thought was unnecessary and mis-fit my contact lense prescription causing pain & irritation. Prior to this office I went to Hatcher and they were excellent! I won't be back here---I've been here for 1 hr as we speak and have yet to be taken to a room.
