I don't typically leave reviews, positive or negative. My experience at Hatchers was so poor, I have decided to share one here. Had an eye exam to update my glasses and contact prescription back in November 2025. Exam went fine, doctor was knowledgeable and friendly. It only went downhill from there. Once I went out front to order a free trial of contacts, I was told they would come in 2-4 weeks and I would be contacted when they arrived. Four weeks go by, no contact, no big deal yet, I reach out, he says they will check on it and call me back with an update. One week later, no call back with an update. Wait another week. Still no call back. I call again. Claims he does not know what happened, will order more. I wait another 4 weeks, no contact from Hatchers. I call back, am told that he does not know what is going on, will check with the vendor and order another pair. I make him promise to call me back within 3 days to give me an update on the situation as I am getting frustrated in this repeat situation, which he agrees to do. Waited three days, no call back. Waited a full week. No call back. It has now been several months since I ordered a free contact trial. I decided to go in to the store in person sometime in March or April to try and sort it out in person. I talk with the man at the counter again explaining that I am very frustrated with the situation. He says that the pair ordered should be coming, but can provide no information regarding its shipping status. He says he will order me another free pair for my troubles. At this point, I have no idea how many pairs have been ordered. Five maybe? and yet none have arrived. I wait another several weeks in hopes that it has actually been taken care of this time. Nothing. I don't know why it took me so long to give up and move on but I finally went to the store today, one last time, to see if my contacts had arrived. If not, I was going to cancel my order and move on in hopes I did not waste my ability to get a free pair of contacts through my insurance. In the store there are two people in front of me "in line". I wait patiently for my turn. My presence was never acknowledged as I waited for 30+ minutes for assistance. As I wait, and watch him serve the other customers, he is able to multitask and take numerous phone calls, but he is unable to even ask what I am in for as he is working on the computer to help other clients. It just makes me feel like I would get better customer service as a call in than a walk in. However, I can't accomplish anything calling in either. He finally gets to me, and has to search the computer for 10 minutes just to figure my situation out. I don't understand why it takes 10 minutes to figure out if something has arrived or not, especially with the history that we have established at this point of ordering pair upon pair of contacts. He goes and searches for my contacts and finds two pairs. He then stated that he was waiting until my box of contacts had come in before contacting me. AT NO POINT did I ever order a box of contacts! In what world does it make sense for me to order a box of contacts in which I have not even received the trial pair for, on a new prescription and a new type of contacts. Let alone the fact that every conversation I had with him was about receiving my trial pair. This is point that the vibe shifted from feeling incompetent to shady. For all I know my contacts may have been sitting there in the office for weeks or months. The previous time I went in, he did not physically check anywhere to see if my contacts had arrived. Just fumbled around on the computer for 10-15 minutes stating he did not know what was going on. It took over 6 months to receive my contacts! 6 MONTHS! And at NO point did anyone make a proactive effort to inform me of what was going on or that they would be coming soon, or why they were delayed or anything. Every step of the process was like pulling teeth to get information and actually get my contacts. Shame on me for waiting so long to go eleswhere. At best, everything after the eye exam portion was utterly incompetent, at worst it was knowingly deceptive or shady. I will not be returning. read more

I have been a loyal customer for years. Optometrist is great and doesn't make you feel rushed or like you're "failing" a test. Mike is also great but he does need some help. He's very attentive when you have his attention but he's often serving too many at once. I think a new face out front to assist is long overdue. read more

My go to for all eyeglass needs since 1985 when I married one of their loyal customers. It used to be a lot more comfortable when the original Mr. Hatcher was around. His friendly personality permeated the business. Now it is more "all business" but the service and prices are still good and they give us a Capital Health Plan discount. They certainly have the most attractive and enjoyable showroom to sit in while doing business. read more

I am so disappointed with the service I received. The Optician that did me and my sons eye exam was amazing. She has a great personality, is informative, and is just pleasant all together. The Dr./ Man out front is horrible. I have been a customer since the 90's and I have never been so ignored, and unassisted in my life. Then when I left called and said " did you want to finish up" I told him after I tried to get his attention and was ignored after walking around for 30mins picking our own frame I figured we were done. I turned around went back and was still ignored while sitting directly across from him for another 30 mins while he pecked on the computer not asking or saying a word. Then when i said let me just pay my co pay and leave he said " i was putting your insurance info into the system " and i told him how was i to know that when we had been sitting there and he didn't part his lips at all. This was my sons first time getting glasses and it has left a bad impression on him. Three weeks later to get glasses .He is a great example of "TIME TO RETIRE. YOU SHOULD NOT BE THE FIRST FACE CUSTOMERS SEE. I swear I won't be going back but I wish the lady that did the eye exam didn't have to work beside him. read more

Went for a medical exam and Dr. Wohlers was very caring, patient and informed. They have a small staff and business so definitely call ahead for any type of appointment. read more

I walked in requesting a quick UV test for a pair of generic shades that I purchased, and the optician on site said he'd attend me once he's done with a customer. There were at least 5 different people waiting to be attended just like me. I understand if he's short staffed, but I was left waiting for 5 minutes, for something that would take as little as 30 seconds. I walked out without being attended. Utter waste of my time, and I feel bad for those who were still waiting when I walked out. read more

I've called this place 15 times, and they still can't manage to replace a part on my glasses. It's certainly not a pleasure to have to call so many times. Their customer service is terrible, and they need better staff to adequately serve their clients. I've been trying to support a locally-owned business, but now I understand why people often choose larger stores for better service. read more

Horrible. Hatcher does not take my insurance so I was paying totally out of pocket . I went and had my exam and the lady optometrist ( sorry I can't remember her name) was EXCELLENT. My husband always gets his glasses made Costco so I was going to do the same but because the optometrist was amazing - I decided to get glasses there. I paid for 2 pair of Raybans. One regular glasses and one pair of sunglasses totaling right at $1,000. The man working there Mike told me they would be in the following week. The sunglasses came in and he adjusted them , and I sat there waiting for my other pair" oh did you have something else??" Uh, yes. He looked on his computer and said they have been shipped , just not in yet. On , no problem. THREE WEEKS WENT BY WITH ZERO COMMUNICATION FROM MIKE. I called inquiring SEVERAL TIMES and was told each time he would call me right back - NOPE - not one call. I stopped by there on the second week and he said "well they haven't even shipped yet" Ok well that's a direct lie from what I was told , by him, before. Again, He was going to check into it . Another week went by - no communication , no glasses. I was very nice and understanding through the whole ordeal. Finally after the 3 weeks of no glasses my husband called him requesting a refund. He said he would issue one. 3 days later no refund had been issued and my husband had to physically go to the store and have him issue the credit. THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND COMMUNICATION I HAVE EVEN SEEN. It's really a shame because as I said before the optometrist was AWESOME. read more

We used to love Hatcher, but their customer service has gone downhill over the many years we've been customers. My husband got a new pair of glasses last year that weren't quite right. They said they'd fix them in two weeks. After calling to check on the progress, staff acted as though they had no clue what we were talking about, but assured us that the glasses would be fixed. We made several more calls, but the glasses were never fixed. So disappointed with their service and hope I never have to return. read more

Was told it would be a couple days to get my lenses and I would be called. 3 days later I called them but they said they would have to order my lenses. 7 days later I called them again and they said they had not ordered my lenses. I went elsewhere. I feel wronged. NOT recommended. Really not sure how they stay in business. read more

I have been routinely coming to Hatcher Opticians for my contact/eye glass exams. The staff is always pleasant and welcoming. The business is always busy with customers. The buildings structure is unique. The view out the windows are nice - trees all around the building. I like it. Dr. Hughes is smart, helpful and informative. I enjoy the whole group at Hatcher Opticians. Very helpful and willing to go the extra mile! I recommend trying them out. read more

Was a customer for 30 years but I once had a problem with my frames and didn't want to buy another set from them. I asked for my prescription going out the door and the look I got was not good. Now when I call to make an appointment they say "they'll get back to me" and three days later, nothing. Very professional. read more

I've been accompanying my boyfriend to Hatcher Optical throughout the process of him getting a new pair of sunglasses. This place is so bizarre. You come in and no one says hello as if you're not even there especially if they are helping someone else. There is an older lady managing the front who can't hear very well. I am currently at Hatcher and a couple asked the older woman for tissues twice. This couple is maybe 3 feet away from her and she couldn't hear both times. The man that gives the estimates on the glasses pretended like you're not there unless he is actively working with you. The eye doctor is the only person who is okay. I would definitely not recommend this place unless you want to feel like a second class citizen. read more

I ordered 2 pair of glasses and gave them a $500 deposit over 3 weeks ago. Every time I call and ask if my glasses are ready, they say they should be in any day now and just make excuses and won't give me a definite date. It looks like I'm going to have to dispute the charge they made on my credit card and go somewhere else. This is the worst service I have ever experienced from an optician. read more

I had a very negative experience with this place. First, the doctor was first rate - no problem there - but the staff were weird. The man ordering the glasses would not talk or engage while he searched the internet, then claimed he could not find the style I wanted. I finally requested he order a style that was available, because he was taking so long. After, I was not contacted for over a month; when I called back they said they had not ordered the glasses, but thought I was "thinking it over" ... for over a month? When I requested a copy of my prescription, the old woman became very angry, saying the doctor had not written out a prescription, which was strange. It has been over a month and still no prescription. I recommend avoiding this place, it is not worth the lousy service. read more

I love Hatcher Optical. They are not fancy or anything amazing when you walk in. In fact, as Olivia B said, sometimes they may not even notice you came in. However, they are always friendly and helpful. They have great prices for contacts and the doctor is the best. He is thorough, calm and gives me samples to try. If I don't like that contact, I just return and get another. I never feel cheated or pressured, I am always treated kindly and fairly. I recommend unless you are really need that "Hi there! How are you!" kind of thing. read more
