Made the appointment the day before and got into the office at 8:15AM, filled out a few forms and was starting the process about 8:30. They determined that I had cataracts in both eyes, the doctor explained to me what that meant and didn't pressure me to make a decision on scheduling a consult with the surgeon. I needed a form filled out for the DMV, which they promptly did. I needed set of glasses until my surgery and told the staff outside I needed a cheap set of glasses to walk out with, until the surgery, they complied. Except for no lolipop it wa prety much perfect! read more

Absolute incompetence. Avoid this circus at all costs. Poor billing department, abysmal staff, and zero professionalism. My appointment was scheduled for 3:00 PM. At 4:40 PM--after I had been waiting for nearly two hours--they finally informed me that the equipment needed for my appointment was actually at their satellite office, and that I would have to reschedule. Absolutely ridiculous. It is an actual cast of clowns working here. They seem to think saying "sorry" is some magic spell that absolves them of any basic professional responsibility. But it doesn't end there. My billing and insurance have always been completely consistent, with the exact same copay amount for years. During this visit, the receptionist literally started gossiping about my account to another staff member right in front of me, as if I weren't standing there. Apparently, they updated their billing system, and my summary of benefits for my ACA Marketplace (CHP) insurance plan hadn't transferred over properly. Instead of sorting out their own technical glitch, the billing staff member (a blonde female) refused to let the appointment proceed unless I paid a surprise "past due charge." Refusing care over a system error is incredibly insensitive, especially given that the patient is a glaucoma patient dealing with high eye pressure. I asked for an itemized bill so I could take it home to review, verify, and pay via check if the charge was actually valid. They printed the bill, but rigidly insisted I still had to pay the mystery balance right then and there to proceed with the visit. And the ultimate punchline? They couldn't have provided the medical service anyway because the equipment wasn't even in the building! The billing department simply refuses to do their job. They won't call the insurance company to fix an obvious error in their own system because it's easier to lazy-load the labor onto the patients, forcing us to call and track down an updated summary of benefits for them. Avoid this place at all costs if you have a choice. Between the massive wait times and the complete lack of communication between departments, I was coerced into paying a bogus past bill that didn't apply (my specialist copay is clearly printed on my insurance card, and I have years of consistent payment history here). To top it all off, we left without even receiving the medical care we scheduled. If any malpractice or consumer rights lawyers see a case here, let me know. read more

Dr. Ko is amazing. She is very kind and empathetic. Unfortunately, the office staff are the opposite. They are quite arrogant and uncaring. It took me three months and multiple phone calls to recover a refund to an overcharge on their part. To the front desk, you are literally just another number. read more

Very disappointed in my annual eye exam. The techs did not listen when I told them the eye exam chart was blurry and lied twice. I clearly relayed a prescription with the readings she took would not work and after doing so, things went downhill fast. After expressing my concerns, the tech reassured me the doctor would recheck everything. Then she dilated me, so I knew she was lying, because you can't re-test vision when it's blurry from dilation drops. Additionally, when she and her trainee said they would "be right back" because they had to "find someone" to do my pressure check, she was the one who returned with the instrument. Perhaps she misspoke, but all the whispering and murmuring and extended three extended absences from the room were unsettling. The "friendliness" was very phony and insincere. I expressed my concern to the doctor, and he "poo-poo'd" me with some convoluted explanation of how he grabs a measurement from A and combines it with information from B and then mixes it all together to form his interpretation, C. I have had five eye surgeries and have been going for exams since the age of 4. Did he honestly think I was going to believe that BS? I compared his "soup" prescription to the actual computer-generated one from my former doctor (2 years old with no change in vision/eyes) and the differences were REALLY evident. The soup prescription from Dr. Wood and Eye Associates and their snippy technician was WRONG and would have resulted in blurry vision. I don't know about you, but I can't afford to pay $300 (or more) for new glasses/sunglasses, just to have blurry vision and then have to pay to get them redone. When I discovered how far off the "soup" prescription was, I contacted the practice, explained what happened, and requested involvement of a supervisor. I was assured though the supervisor wasn't there (are they ever?), the operator would message them immediately. It's now 3 hours later . . . still waiting for a call back. Yeah, I know; they're busy and short staffed. There are many other eye doctors in town. I suggest, if you can, you choose a different one. read more

I've been a patient at Eye Associates for 8 years. The care is always good. My issue: They have a new policy regarding cancellation or being late for appointments. If you're more than 20 minutes late or don't cancel at least 24 hrs in advance, they'll assess a $75 fee to you. My issue - Particularly for afternoon appointments, they often run late. Example - I had a 3 pm appointment today. I had my Vision and pressure test, it's now 4:35 and I'm still sitting in the back waiting area. Can I charge the Dr $75? This is not a one off. It's happened before. I understand running late, BUT. Do a better job at scheduling the Dr's appointments. read more

I paid $263.20 and was billed an additional $48.80 out of my own pocket, and was given a complete series of tests, but I was told they do not know what is causing my problem with my vision. The doctor does not seem to be the least bit concerned about the lack of a diagnosis, was curt, detached, and seemed animus from the start of her examination of my vision. I was summarily dismissed and the doctor hurried away from me. I feel Wronged and cheated, and I do not recommend this business to anyone. I expect a different ophthalmologist will discover what the problem is with my vision which will prove the ineptitude of Eye Associates. FOLLOW-UP: just as I predicted, an optometrist (well-known in the region) has discovered what exactly is causing my vision problem and is treating me with Great kindness and respect. read more

Wait times are ridiculously long, nurses with no bedside manner do almost the entire exam with the doc only stepping in at the end to look at your eyes after the nurse does the actual vision test, they are difficult to get in touch with via phone, they don't call you back, and the callback scheduling person doesn't know how to do her job. I went to this office once, before switching offices, because of how terrible the experience is. The nurse literally yelled at me when I was struggling with the actual eye touching portions of the exam. On my way out, I notified the front desk and they said they had multiple complaints about this nurse. My husband has been going to this office to see a specific doctor, at the recommendation of his rheumatologist. Recently, they rescheduled his appointment and change his doctor. They did not call like, like a normal doctor's office would. Instead, they sent him a letter in the mail. Upon questioning the office about this, when they failed to cancel his appointment like he asked them to do, they said they had no record of this letter whatsoever. Super disorganized office. I do not recommend anyone go to this office. read more

This business is run like a profit mill with no consideration for the safety and effectiveness of the techniques for the individual patients. I am sorry that elderly people probably don't often read yelp reviews. Because I think that this business thrives on taking advantage of elderly people with regards to cataract surgery. Not only did they put the hard sell on us to pay for $6000 lenses with 18% interest, they missed a very obvious diabetes related eye condition that should have been a red light for cataract surgery. Had my husband gone forward with the surgery as suggested without the needed treatment for the eye condition he was suffering from, he could have lost his vision in one eye. I am also a patient at this office -- NOT ANYMORE. And I plan to tell everyone I know that is considering cataract surgery to steer clear of Eye Associates of Tallahassee. read more

I had cataract surgery and corrective lenses inserted last year. I was very nearsighted and do a lot of close up work. To my dismay, the doctor made me extremely farsighted and when I mentioned it, she flippantly told me to get reading glasses. I can't see anything up close clearly for 24 inches. It never occured to me that they would change me from very nearsighted to very farsighted without my consent and one of the reasons for the cataract surgery is that I couldn't see up close to perform my work. I have to wear glasses to see up close. I don't mind glasses as I've worn them for 60 years but would have preferred to have kept my nearsightedness and worn glasses for distance. Very disappointed with the attitude and still grieving having lost my nearsightedness. read more

Patient portal is absolutely terrible. I keep getting reminders to initiate an account but every time I go there it informs me that my account is locked. My computer has a user name and password that was used before but I cannot even start an account. Of course, there is no phone number to get in touch with a human being and discuss this issue. A very efficient operation, the staff members work very well together. I just completed laser eye surgery in both eyes, one eye at a time. Everyone did a great job. Your own experience will vary depending on who you are seeing and/or why you are visiting. I see Dr. Bui, a dual specialist, who has done a beautiful job of treating my extremely unique conditions. I trust his judgement and have benefitted from seeing him. Why did I give a 4-star review then - the office is always crowded, appointments always run late - even when I have been one of the first appts in the day, and not all the staff are welcoming. On one bad day, a tech kept trying to tell me what was wrong with my eyes even though he clearly had NO idea what he was talking about, I politely told him that I was well aware of what was wrong and he needed to look at my file, he got visibly upset and then was rude. BUT, for me it is worth it to see Dr. Bui who I would give 5 stars to anytime! read more

I chose this center based off the Cataract specialty. I was informed I had cataracts during childhood and have to get them checked every couple years to see how close they are to my line of vision. Don't waste your time! Apparently they are understaffed, have untrained staff or are in need of a good office manager. I tried for over a week just to speak with someone in the office. I would call and be placed on hold for lengthy periods and after 15 minutes each time I would hang up. I left numerous voicemails and finally someone reached out to via text, I informed them that I had rather talk on the phone than text, so they continued to send text. My referral was sent to them on three separate occasions, but they still claimed they had not received it although they provided the number to fax the referral to. They would not allow me to make an appointment until they received the referral, so much for taking care of a medical situation that required me to see an optometrist. If you are a patient looking for a professionally run facility, I Highly recommend that you look elsewhere. Oh, and if the facility being rated chooses to dispute the review, I have the proof. I would suggest to the Doctor(s) to have someone try to set up an appointment and see just what we are experiencing with your staff! read more

Eye doctor I use is exemplary as are his technicians. Don't like the run around about eye drop samples, the doctor always says he is giving you samples and the nurse comes in afterwards and refused to give you anything. This has happened numerous times, just irritating. Secondly they have implemented a door boy and intercom system that doesn't seem to be patient centered. You walk in the door and a kid comes out on the right and asked you if you have an appointment. You still have to check in at the counter. The intercom, squawk nix is blaring constantly and is unnerving. Who ever implemented these two things should be terminated. This is a hard review to write, as I have been going to this practice for close to 20 years with both some good and some bad results, and this practice has changed over time. I will address the current situation in this review and mostly ignore the past. I hope that my input may help things improve. This is a very large practice. On the con side, they have a voice mail system which is overly complex, very annoying and time-consuming to use, and odds of getting a callback in a reasonable time are very low. You can never call and get a person right away, as that is just impossible. Wait times for appointments are long, and the parking lot and waiting room are both often way overfull. Having an appointment feels something like being a cow in a cattle processing farm now, where you are led "down a chute" from one small office and one staff person to another in sequence, waiting in between each one and never knowing quite what each person has the role of doing, because they often don't tell you. They all seem to be in such a hurry they don't take time to discuss what they are doing. On the pro side, many of the doctors are excellent. My doctor is excellent. The doctors are super busy so it can be hard to get in and see him, but once I see him, I am satisfied. I have had multiple serious eye problems and surgery, and thought he did a great job for all. My doctor is what keeps me going here. Back to the con side, the optical department is very problematic. I have had multiple wrong eyeglass prescriptions which had to be corrected over the last 10 years. I have had one prescription made by the techs in the "back end" of the practice and then had to have it revised by the opticians in the front end. I have had multiple eyeglasses which were cut wrong, and either the pupil distance or the segment height or both, were simply wrong. This has wasted a huge amount of my time going back to get revisions. And lately, they are so busy that at times, they do not even want to help and make you feel like you are wasting their time. They are also condescending to clients. That all said, I will keep going to this facility because I love my doctor. However, I will likely find a different location to obtain eyeglasses. read more

I give up. I never actually made it to this place. I wanted to schedule a LASIK consultation. I filled out the form online and nobody contacted me, even though that is what the form is for. So after two weeks, I called and left a message. Nobody returned my call. A week later I telephoned and they said the LASIK scheduler leaves at 4pm. Since it was 4:30pm, I needed to call back another day. I called again, I was on hold for seven minutes, then sent to a voicemail. I decided not to go that route again. I called again, I got transferred to the LASIK scheduler, but I got her voicemail (it was 10:30am). I just gave up. Maybe they are good doctors, but I will never know. read more

This year I decided to invest in myself and rather than using one of the value priced (exam and 2 pairs of glasses for $60.00) optometrists, I made an appointment with Eye Associates. Setting the appointment was very easy, there was an immediate opening on Saturday. Check in was pleasant, the check in clerk was very friendly, professional and efficient. The automated check-in system was not available the day of my visit. After very minimal wait a young lady came to get me, she did not introduce herself, nor let me know what her role was. She proceeded to administer few vision tests and than took me into a room where she basically completed my exam and dilated my eyes. She definitely was not the doctor. That was the first "surprise". I was than taken into another room where I finally got to see the doctor for about 2 minutes, he gave me my prescription based on the exam the "assistant" completed and my visit was done. I attempted to use my prescription right away at the optical counter at the Eye Associates, however it was evident the attendant was not ready or willing to sell any glasses that morning. She told me I can use the prescription anywhere and to have a good day. So, I have spent several hundred dollars for a substandard service, I'll be definitely back to the value provider next year. read more

If you are looking for eye glasses, and already have your eye glass prescription, then you will have no problems. For EVERYONE ELSE, expect the longest day of your life. As a new patient to get my contact lens prescription updated, I was required to have an eye exam AND get my eye dilated AND have a contact-lens exam. (This required seeing 2 different doctors AND 3 different techs.) 2.5 HOURS LATER, they still did not have contact-lens in stock. So, guess what! I get to go back and endure more time I am never going to get back. I have seen better efficiency at the DMV. So, be warned!!!! read more

Today I went toEye Associates for my yearly eye exam with Dr. Weaver. I have always been happy with him. I endured the long waiting times. He will come in at the end of my exam. Look at my eye and give me my results. He asked me if there's anything going on and that's the end of our appointment. Today I went and when I went up to sign all the forms, one of the items that you need to sign is that there's now a cost for your prescription if it changes. So you go to the doctor you get examined for your eyes to see if you need a new prescription and if you do, there's a $40 charge for you to get your prescription. I tried to talk to the woman I said I don't understand why this happened they said is that my insurance now doesn't cover it. I said, but if I go to the doctors and because I'm sick and I get a prescription, I don't have to pay for that prescription. I take it to the pharmacy and then I pay for it there. Isn't it the same according to them. So be prepared to pay $40 for your prescription. Right there I canceled my appointment and I left. I need to contact my insurance and find out what the deal is. What made me very upset? Apparently they changed it in April and didn't notify me. When I asked, why wasn't I notified? They said well it should be your insurance, but he's my eye doctor. I feel the responsibility should've came from them. read more

Dr Kato's assistant did not wash hands or wear gloves after using the computer, and did not wear a mask. 1 1/2 hours in a room with poor air circulation increases risk of COVID dramatically especially with the big crowd of people in there. And Dr Weaver made me feel relaxed about the surgery that I would need. Everything was explained, even down to the financial side of it. I had cataract surgery in May 2015 with Dr Cato. I found everyone at the clinic to be professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. It is obvious they are well-trained, as everything runs like a fine Swiss clock! Don't let the crowded waiting room intimidate you, as patients are called back very quickly. I barely sat down before my name was called. From my first visit, through my surgery, and finally, my follow-up, every detail of my care was explained to me, in language I could clearly understand, so I felt well at ease, and confident in the care I was receiving. They really care about their patients and their ability to be able to afford the expensive pre-op and post-op medicated eye drops required for this procedure, so I was given pharmaceutical gift cards that would cover the exorbitant cost. I didn't need it, thankfully. Dr. Cato is a very friendly man, and quite frankly, easy on the eyes (no pun intended)! He was very skillful and my surgery was a wonderful success! I highly recommend Eye Care Associates for any eye care problems one may have. read more

I came in to check on my burning eye. I called my eye insurance which told me this place was covered. however, to be extra safe i called eye associates and confirmed as well . I booked my appointment over the phone in which the lady asked for my EYE insurance . I came in and had my appointment and the doctor was very nice. However, in the mail I received a bill and when I called I was informed that i was billed because they didn't take my medical insurance. I stated that the lady asked for my eye insurance and not my medical. the staffs response was that I as a customer should know what appointment type constitutes medical insurance vs eye insurance and their staff is not liable. I was told I would be contacted twice . never happened. instead I called again once I received another letter. I then contacted Sarah who is in charge of the bills. she informed me that the best the office could do was to take off 20 percent for their mistake . I responded that 20 percent was no good enough and that this is their staffs fault and I will contact my lawyer to send a letter because it is unacceptable. THEN WHAT HAPPENED WAS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I received another letter but this time stating " due to your inappropriate behavior and malpractice suit claim, you are no longer a patient with us ..." I left a text because they would answer the phone stating as I wrote above. nothing was inappropriate about my response. then proceeded to cc my pcp on this letter. Highly inappropriate and embarrassing since my behavior was not an issue. I am a college student and the only conversations were thought text messages which I have copies of.In addition to this lovely letter, they sent a copy of my signature and a highlighted portion that said, " if appointment is a medical emergency without a referral medical insurance will not be covered." This is irrelevant since the problem was that the worker did not inform me they needed medical insurance and that my appointment was covered by my eye insurance. therefore my signature next to their highlighted portion is irrelevant as it is not the problem at hand. the problem is that their staff does not know the difference between appointment types that constitute medical vs eye insurance and blames the customer for not knowing themselves . as a college student, money is not easily obtained and this type of error is harmful to one and their credit pays the price if the fee is not covered. to make matters worse, the letter did not come with a way to pay for the fee. I contacted them and once again I get a snarky remark that only check is available and I needed to mail it in. I responded that I will go to the bank to get a check as I do not have them and will come in person and want a receipt that says I owe $0 . No response which is very unprofessional and petty behavior. not only do I have to pay for their offices mistake but now I have to go out of my way to get a check and hand it in because they decide who can and can not pay over the phone due to their own discretion? that is discrimination and not okay nor appropriate. I will be writing a letter to the owner and I hope he is aware and fixes this injustice because the doctor seemed nice but will lose business with staff that handles situations like this. read more

I was referred to eye associates to Dr. Fang Ko after diagnosis I didn't expect. I chose laser eye surgery to address issues with my diagnosis and she has seen me since that surgery consistently since 2016. I love Dr. Ko and would recommend her to anyone. What I don't recommend is the mistreatment by staff I've received. On several occasions I've been treated rudely by not only the staff about my appointments but Vicky O'Sullivan herself has been pretty unprofessional! At one point she refused to speak with me about my concerns! They don't care about you ABC's care about their bottom line. I pray I never need to go there again! I visited Eye Associates for my biannual appointment with Dr. Bui. Great news...don't need a new glasses prescription! Greater news...Dr. Bui helped me try contact lenses with a potentially successful outcome! I tried multi-focal contacts two years ago but couldn't get accustomed to them. This time Dr. Bui got involved and recommended mono-vision with a gradual strengthening of the reading lens. Jesse was working in the lens department and was most helpful in recommending the right brand of lens and gave a great refresher on use and care. Since, I've been back for two upgrades in reading strength and have been assisted wonderfully by Ashlee and Raechel. Dr. Skilling has done a great service to the community in founding the practice and leading an amazing team of professionals. I highly recommend Eye Associates! read more

Over 2 hours wait both times! 1st time stated, they just messed up and forgot me. This 2nd time, opps overbooked. Not good at all!

I don't have an issue with the doctors but the process leaves a lot to be desired. So when I came for my appoint mid afternoon I checked with no problems but it went downhill after that. Over the next 2.75 hrs l was moved to two different waiting rooms and 3 patient rooms. Took a 15 minute test and spent all of 10 mins with the doctor. So for over two hrs I sat! Now if you don't mind being herded around like cattle and shuffled from room to room then you probably won't mind the treatment. This place is like a factory with people on the assembly line. I mean they have more rooms than the Digestive Center (if you are from around here and over 50 you know what I am talking about). Down side is if you want an MD for your eye care I am not aware of other options in Tally. read more
