So for 7 years I drove to my stylist that I first met at DePasquale Salon, which is rated 20 round trip to continue to go to my stylist that I have using for over 30 years. I have called different salons in this area and wouldn't get a good vibe. Well, I was desperate to get my hair done for New Year's Eve, and Hot Heads had "GREAT" reviews!!! When I called Larry answered and was so nice and it felt like this was finally be my Salon here in East Stroudsburg! He was able to book an appointment right away! Ashley was my stylist! From the minute I walked in she was so kind and caring. She really listened to what I wanted and she did an outstanding job! It was a true pleasure to get to know her. She proceeded to scream at me over the phone about how it was rude to get a refund because someone spent time on my hair already. (um...WHAT?!?) she also told me that my hair would grow back and then she screamed that I was not a good fit for the salon when I had frequented for years to have Hannah color my hair (Hannah was the best and did not do this haircut). Avoid Shear Design at all costs. A word of advise to the owner, Jean - the managing director of the salon - should probably be put through SEVERAL customer service trainings. During the cut, I had to ask if my hair was even, and he never showed me the sides or the back. He clearly didn't know what he was doing -- he couldn't even style it before I left. When I got home and saw it in the light, I was horrified. My hair was uneven, chopped up, and I even had bald spots. I went back hoping they'd fix it, and another stylist did what they could, but I walked out with basically a G.I. Jane haircut. Here's the worst part -- Chris never apologized. He was "too embarrassed" to say sorry, but apparently not embarrassed enough to give me the finger. After a couple of visits I noticed I would always have to wait. Anywhere from 10-30 min before she worked on my hair. A little annoying given that I made an appointment for a specific time but I shrugged it off because she's a one woman show. Over time I saw she got additional girls working in the shop but the wait still remained...... weird but whatever. The last straw was my final appointment. I don't know if it's the holiday rush getting the best of her or what but I had an appointment for a relaxer touch up at 1:30pm. I parked my car in front of the salon at 1:30pm on the dot and by the time I came inside it was a minute later. The place was packed so I sat in the only chair available and waited...... and waited...... and waited..... and waited....... It was past 2pm at this point when I asked Sam when am I gonna get worked on and she said she has one more lady and then she'll do me. Y'all...... I was in that shop from 1:31pm and my hair wasn't worked on till 3:08pm. I was waiting over an hour and a half. Mind you I was sick. I had a mask on and was hardly talking to minimize potential spreading but my body ached, I was running a fever, and I felt like I was about to pass out being all lightheaded. The girl who rinsed out my hair was hardly getting to the very bottom portion of the back of my head. Even when I told her to please get the lower area she hardly moved the hose to get the spot she needed to hit. And she stayed rinsing only the back of my head for a good five minutes like, boo do you not realize I also have a front of the head too?? There's chemicals sitting in my hair that need rinsing. Why are you taking your sweet time?? Sam eventually jumped in and rinsed it good. After that, I'm in Sam's chair and she starts blow drying and straightening my hair. As she's trimming my ends, she was saying how busy she's been and mentioned the other day she had 20 clients all by herself. I was surprised hearing that and asked if none of the other girls were in that day. Sam said "No they were here but they had clients of their own." So I said "Oh then why 20 clients for you to handle alone?" She said "I got bills to pay this is how I eat. I don't work 9 to 5s like you." So I said back "If you spaced out appointments though what happened today wouldn't happen. I waited over an hour and a half before you finally got to me." And she said "When you're good at what you do, people wait for you. All my clients know to wait for me." Girl this is a bumpkin town and you are one of three salons in the area. That's why people wait. She can do natural hair good. The braiding is another story. But as soon as Sam admitted she over books to her benefit, I knew this was my last visit. If you need money that bad, start raising prices. I have been to salons that charge $120+ for a relaxer and I have no issues paying that amount since they respect my time and are ready for me at the agreed upon appointment time. All Sam said was "oh well I was gonna ask you to show up early in the week but I always see you book on Saturdays" Yes because that's when I'm free to get my hair done! If you don't have time for me that's fine I will reschedule with you no problem. But to make my sick self wait there for over an hour and a half and for her to think that's okay??? That's crazy. The amount of time I waited was longer than the amount of time it took Sam to do my hair. She started with me at 3:08pm and I was out the door by 4:15pm. This visit was it for me. I'm going back to my girls in Jersey I don't care about the drive since I only get relaxers 3-4 times a year. At least out there they respect my time and are ready for me the moment I walk in. Going to Sam, you can't plan anything else the rest of the day cuz you don't know if you're gonna be there for 1 hour or 4 hours. If you're good at what you do, you won't have people waiting almost 2 hours to get their hair done. Hair it iz. Here I go.

I'd hate to see someone go through what I am. In my situation they decided to terminate me in October 2025 for telling the director that they can't use windex as barbicide and we needed the supplies to properly satisfy our clients. That same director called the cops on students. Most students fresh out of high school all because they refused to make them money. But they weren't just being lazy they just wanted to be taught what was signed in the agreement to attend this school. Eventually she was fired and now they have yet to have a stable director and that was in January! I have been waiting for my transcripts and proper paperwork since October 2025. The administration does not know what they are doing. Just ask the students when there not in front of the staff because they do get reprimanded if they say anything bad. A little warning to anyone looking to attend it's worth the drive to empire and they are cheaper, better education! They also have an active open case through the state for the pint of complaints made about them. BE CAREFUL where you go for education and where your money goes!
