At each appointment my eyes are tested for pressure, dilated, and scanned. The scan machines and images are amazing. Dr. Amde examines my eyes and explains things patiently. The facility is nice. I'd recommend Hausser-Ross and Dr. Amde. Also, the techs are always nice. read more

At the first appointment which was a consultation, I walked in & I liked the fact that I was able to check myself in. It was super easy & no problems doing that. I was seen by Dr. Kaplan who was nothing but amazing when he first looked at my eye for the chalazion I've had on my eye for months. He listened to my concerns & answered any questions I had & recommended surgery which is something I wanted & agreed with Dr. Kaplan. The nurse/receptionist for Dr. Kaplan did tell me that it could be a while before they are able to get me in because of insurance approval & didn't know how far out they were scheduling. I first seen Dr. Kaplan on 8/29. A couple of weeks later, I got a phone call & they told me the date I was scheduled but that they would call me the day before to tell me what time I had to be there. I was scheduled for 9/28 which was a relief because I really wanted this chalazion removed asap! I went in for my procedure & the receptionist at the surgical center was so friendly, she greeted me & told me what I needed to provide so she can put in the computer. The wait time in the waiting room was not long. I was called back, the nurse put a hospital gown over my clothes I was already wearing, as well as a disposable blue surgical booties over my shoes & disposable surgical hat. She took my blood pressure & all of that fancy stuff LOL. The nursed treated me very kind which I loved & they also explained what would happen. The nurses & Dr. Kaplan treated me amazing! I was awake for the whole entire thing. They did numb my eye with eye drops & Dr. Kaplan as well injected me with some local anesthesia which I'm not going to lie, I cried when he did that but I want to give a huge shout out to the nurse who let me hold her hand! Dr. Kaplan explained everything as he was doing the procedure which I appreciated it! He said I was going to feel pressure but I honestly felt no pressure at all! It wasn't until after I went home, when I really started to feel some pain but I'm following the aftercare instructions & as well using my prescribed antibiotics. From the time that I got there to the time I left the surgical center was about 2 hours tops. It's been almost 24 hours since my procedure & my eye is swollen which is expected but no pain. My husband received phone calls today but no voicemail so I called back & I don't know which receptionist answered the phone at the Hauser-Ross Institute, (not the surgical side) but she needs to learn to NOT interrupt while the patient or person for the patient is talking & explaining why he or she is calling. I'm not talking about the receptionist at the surgical center, just FYI. Other than the rude receptionist, everyone else was amazing! Thank you so much for the great care! read more

Be aware!!! I was happy that I was finally get a better vision using scleral lenses, I got a quote for almost 3k and agreed on everything. But half way into the fitting corporate decide to use a cheaper brand (Which they never told me they change to a different brand) and when I tried the lenses one actually break inside my eye (that's when the doctor told about corporate desire to use a different brand, again not the one we agreed on when I paid them. So at the end I decided not to use them anymore and I requested a refund but they are refusing to give me a full refund even tho they are the ones who desire to change brand in the middle of the fitting breaking the agreement we sign. They just want to refund me 11 hundred out of the almost 3k. Now I'm traumatized cause I afraid to put a lease into my eye thinking is gonna break again and it's gonna actually cut into my cornea. Stay away from their new cheaper brand of scleral lenses. And always from this company. They don't care about their clients, it's all about the money. read more

just to give notice that they do not follow federal law by having you sign a ABN (Advanced Beneficiary Notice), this was put in law about 2012 which if a service is not covered by medicare or if they believe it will not be covered by Medicare you will be responsible for the denied charges. An ABN is where the provider tells you this will not be covered, the apporoximate amount within $100 and they you have to sign it saying you understand. Hauser Ross corporate does not believe in that since when you sign in you have to agree to pay all unpaid balances or you will not be seen. They ignore the law and feel that they can do away with it since they put it in their disclaimer even though that is the reason this law was put in place. I spent my entire career as a customer service rep for insurance companies dealing mainly with Medicare and its amazing how many people and customer service people have no idea about this law and end up just paying it or having their credit report marred due to this. Hope this helps people with this. Ask if if charges are covered under ABN. read more

Although I suffered some unexpected pain during my first cataract surgery, my overall reaction to the entire experience was a positive one. This was due in large part to the skilled and attentive care of the pre-op RNs who robed me, took my vitals, and filled me in on what to expect. They also snugged me into a warm blanket to help sooth my anxiety, evidenced by my elevated blood pressure. Their names are Nancy M. and Sherry P. One of the qualities that I appreciated in both of them, often absent in other health care professionals, was their lack of condescension. They treated me as if I might actually have a brain in my head, sharing my numbers with me and not belittling me for asking questions. They even displayed a friendly sense of humor that seemed genuine and spontaneous vs. being stilted and hackneyed -- the same jokes being repeated to each patient. Both nurses went above and beyond the basic requirements of their jobs, and it made a difference to me. I wanted to thank them publicly. I hope this gets back to them. I would give the doctors and medical staff a 6 star review, but the phone receptionist is really undertrained. No matter what you call for, surgery, glasses, appointments, questions about services there is a clear lack of knowledge. She does not know if they do that service Its listed on their website they DO offer that treatment. No clue if they charge for a consult, says she will ask that person, long silences and will not transfer me to someone who DOES know. She takes a message and says 'the person who knows more' will call back. Do better, please? read more

I've called several times asking about thr glasses and just told they haven't cone in yet. Meanwhile my son has no glasses and can't see. No one here seems to be concerned. Three prescription requests were ignored and upon following up it was quagmire of "not me". employees are curt, non responsive or just plain rude. this is so different than my experience with Dr Yavitz and the staff in his office. read more

I've been here once because of my medical insurance. ( it takes my insurance & was there only for the convenience of being so close to me ) first time I went , i called & I asked for a diabetic eye exam, first of all: was greeted rudely by someone woman who didn't even sound like was in the mood to talk/ have any good & friendly customer service. So I had made my appointment . & the day came , went in with a prescription I had from a previous eye place with the most updated version of my vision at the time . I went in there and the ophthalmologist assistant just put in the same numbers that were on my prescription paper that I had handed yo her & made it look like she was doing something, look my prescription paper, walked out the door with it , came back like a few mins later & then just to tell me that my prescription was the same . I was so confused because normally they'd explain to me what my vision is( while in the room) & if there were any changes & that day they even dilated my pupils, which was the only thing that the assistant explained to me in the room . Then after she proceeds to walk me out the door , I asked her " where do I make my next appointment? Who do I speak with? What are my results on my dilated pupils/ how long will I know the results etc etc " she practically just tells me " you need to speak with the front desk and they'll help you out " & im standing at the front desk , the front desk is with another person but another front desk personnel is sitting next to her and does not even acknowledge me. Nor do they even bother to tell me that if I've been dilated that I need to wear sunglasses. ( normally at other places I'd go to they'd be kind enough to offer me the temporary plastic ones. Something to shield my eye from the Sun. maybe not all eye places offer it temporary sunglasses , I didn't know . But someone could've told me on the phone while I was making my diabetic eye exam appointment to remind me to bring sunglasses to my appointment because they're gonna dilate me afterwards , that would've been nice to know before hand ) & then to make matters worse , I asked where to go to get eye glasses ( apparently it's another call you have to make to even go check them out ) & so they told me where to go and I went in ( at the same building) & asked more info ( since at the time I've never been to the place before & just to know how their system works ) & I went in there and asked to get more information on how to purchase glasses / who to talk to about looking for new glasses etc etc. I asked & the person behind the counter tells me that they're booked and that the wait time is like MONTHS in advance & that if I want to get glasses I have to go to one of the locations on their list that are POSSIBLY able to get me some glasses . But that I ALSO have to see if my insurance even covers the place, for the diabetic eye exam & glasses . I didn't even bother to make the call to the other place because I was already just fed up with the whole situation. I just thanked them & walked out . In the SUN WITHOUT SUNGLASSES. & now again I made my appointment today ( because it's convenient for me & it looks to be the only place near by that accepts my medical insurance) I called again to make another diabetic eye exam ( updated ) & again was greeted by some extremely rude personnel ( not sure if she was the same person that greeted me the first time ) that didn't even bother to let me speak & just had a nasty tone to her voice . I tried being patient with her but she just was being super rude . After this 2nd encounter, I will never go back . This place is rude overall . I'm only here because of my medical insurance that's covers this place . But after I get my exam done, I'll have to see where else I can go that covers me, because they place is unacceptable. I have purchased contact lenses from the DeKalb clinic for many years, always paying for the balance due in full at the time of pick-up. After almost three (3) years Hauser-Ross billed me for an additional amount after I paid the original amount in full. I have called multiple times to provide valid explanation for why I should pay an additional amount and sent letters to the billing office. However, I have never received a response to my questions and continue to ignore my requests. Every month I receive a balance due letter requesting payment and I'm still waiting for a response. read more

After my husband had eye surgery, detached retina, he could barely see out of his eye, he went 5 for follow ups. The doctor said there was nothing he could do, it was normal. Didn't see he developed bad cataracts, which happens after a surgery like that. This eye surgeon should know that. I don't care what he specializes in. He didn't referred him to another eye doctor there. We went to another eye facility for a second opinion, and because of my husbands Ins and job ended up in Iowa. Right away they told him he needed cataract surgery. They assumed we would want to do this close to home in Sycamore, but no way was he going back to HR. Immediately following the surgery he was able to see again, almost 20/20. and he didn't get the extra for that. HR did care, didn't apologize to him, didn't respond to our letter of concern, nothing!!! read more

From the first appointment; I had cataract surgery in 2015, the all out sales focus to overcome your pricing objections (before you voice them) to lasik surgery vs what is covered by insurance was obvious. The video, the consult, the warnings but they are local so using humor I kept insisting NO give me the knives in the eyes. Afterwards I was so glad the results were good. Then came the aftercare drops they recommended. I moved shortly after and discovered years later, without a call to me I was turned in to collections for $50. it remains unpaid. Today they reminded me when I called (moved back) and need my eyes checked i would need to pay before they could schedule. I replied I don't think I owe anything I paid prior to surgery. sorry it's been too long and corporate turned you in. Should I pay them? Maybe?! Pretty sure I can find another to clean up my lenses. I had the other eye done without all the sales consults and their knives worked well too. Their loss I told them but the experience reminded me to warn others. The majority is still opting to NOT do the lasik and seeing well. read more

It has been about 3 weeks since I got my lasik vision correction done! I have already gone for 2 follow ups and the next one is in a couple of days. My vision is 20/15! I am very happy with the results and no more glasses! Dr Tilton performed my procedure and he was very nice. They gave me 5 mg valium before the procedure, but they should have given me 10 mg (the lady looked at me and said I probably only needed 5 since I was so small....nooooppppppeee). The hardest part was sitting still when he was trying to place the instrument to keep my eye open. The procedure itself was not painful. It only took about an hour and you had to have someone with you so they could drive you back. They gave me very good instructions on what to do, even gave me sunglasses to walk out with and goggles to sleep at night with. You need to sleep with goggles for one week so you don't accidentally rub your eye and move the flap that is made. You also have to use eye drops (2 kinda) every 4 hours for a week. It wasn't so hard besides at night. I didn't really experience dry eyes, but my other coworkers who got it done did. Overall, I am very happy with the procedure. I would recommend it to anyone and Dr Tilton is absolutely wonderful! read more

My eye doctor recommended that I go here to have them check my scratched cornea. Fine. I sat in the chair & waited. A woman came in & told me to tilt back my head so she could put some drops in my eye. What for? Turns out, no matter what you go there for, they want to dilate your eyes. I let that pass & saw them again when my cataracts got bad enough for surgery. The snotty doctor I saw said they weren't bad enough yet & to come back "next year", which was weird since my doctor had wanted me to have it done more than a year before. I don't want cookie-cutter treatment; I want to be treated as a patient with particular needs. I went to Wheaton Eye Clinic instead and was treated with respect & consideration, a 180-degree change from HS. read more

Someone I work with referred me to this location. I had to see the optometrist because I scratched my cornea. They accepted me right away and not only did the optometrist check my eye and make sure everything is ok but he has a surgeon come in from the other office to check my eye as well. I went in for 2 follow up appointments to make sure my eye was healing properly. I someone needed to see an eye doctor I would refer them right away. read more

I have been going to H/R for about 20 years. I had RK surgery in the 1990's done by Dr Tilton. About 11 years ago, I started showing signs of glaucoma. So I have needed to go every 6 months for exams & tests. So far so good ... I use eye drops. Dr Tilton has recently left H/R and I have been seen by Dr Matthew Johnson. He is young, energetic and very very thorough. H/R is lucky to have him, in my opinion. The new building is quite nice, and the staff friendly as always. I am glad they accept my insurance. I will continue to see Dr Johnson. read more

If you have lenses made make sure they are made correctly because they do not double check and will tell you to get use to them. A week went buy and my vision worsened, complained to them, and I was informed after a week that the lenses were made incorrectly. I was on short term Disability, and needed glasses to read reports, and on the computer. The optical department put me in bigger frames dragged out the correct glasses to the due that to return to work, new glasses gave me Vertigo, and I was informed needed 2 weeks to adjust, and the short term Disability papers would be taken care of. The Optical Department then did not inform or wires crossed with Doctor of the vision issues so she told Disability every thing was alert, putting my employment in jeopardy and out $1052 all due the Optical department, and lenses made incorrectly . Still waiting for this nightmare to be corrected as this was due to the lenses made incorrectly read more

We use Hauser-Ross for our normal eye exams, so when my daughter got something in her eye and we were unable to flush it out, I didn't hesitate to call them. We waited 2 hours to see the doctor despite telling everyone we came in contact with that she was really nervous, so of course by time Dr. Johnson came in she was bored, hungry and even more nervous. He didn't take the time to explain what he was doing and I felt very rushed. Her eye was very light sensitive so she was having a hard time sitting still, so he asked a nurse to come in and help. Neither the Dr or the nurse made much effort to help restrain her, and after 3 mediocre attempts at looking under her eyelid (during which time the nurse just stood to the side instead of helping me hold her), Dr. Johnson said we needed to come back in a week to see the pedatric ophthalmologist and have her put under general anesthesia to look at her eye. This felt very extreme to me, not to mention her eye still hurt. I took her for a second opinion today at the Wheaton Eye clinic. We were seen right away, the Dr was very gentle and explained everything, and within 5 minutes of being in the room the foreign body was removed and we were on our way. I for one will never be returning to Hauser-Ross. read more

I needed to be seen by a specialist as my eye was almost swollen shut and painful. I walked in and asked for care. The receptionist did not tell me to go to the ER or make an appointment. They made room for me. I was told Dr. Choi would see me. HE WAS EVERYTHING YOU WOULD WANT IN A GREAT DR! He was knowledgeable, (Harvard Grad.) professional, kind and follows the Hippocratic oath which is more overlooked nowadays. He saw me, helped me cured me and gave me sound advise! Never giving me any hint as a walk in I probably inconvenienced him and the office. My family will be loyal patients to you Dr. Choi and Hauser-Ross. That is saying something as even though I live in Sycamore, I go to Lutheran General in Park Ridge for all my other medical needs. read more

I had emergency Surgery with Dr. Amde for my Retina at the end of August. The staff was WONDERFUL, especially the doctor. Thorough and professional. Yes, there are a lot of rooms that you go to with different staff, but they get the job done with compassion and skill. Soon after I was referred to Dr. Mehta to remove a tumor in my eye. He is also great and has a good team. If you want results with an efficient and professional team, this is the place to be. read more

My son went in for a sty on his eye at least that's what the doctor told him it was,she said it had to be surgically removed,which they did 2 surgical procedures the doctor said he would continually need to come back to remove these,never giving him any preventive measures.so recently he went to another doctor at dekalb clinic,he told my son they are caused by allergies,and that there is no need for such a procedure,instead he gave him antihistamine drops and prednisone drops and recommended during allergy season to take Allegra. So this a warning,hauser Ross is out to make money on the unsuspecting!!!! read more

I am in the waiting room while hubby has a surgical procedure. This is seriously the worst waiting room I have ever been in. Small, uncomfortable, loud, cold. There isn't a separate hallway for patient care, so the health techs are busy moving items, checking records, moving patients around. In the previous and post open areas, there are 7 beds around the perimeter of a room. Each space is "separated" by a drape that goes halfway to the floor. I could see and hear everything that was going on with other patients. The total lack of privacy, cheap set up, and uncomfortable setting comes across as unprofessional. Don't let the outside of this new building fool you, the inside is not very nice at all. On the positive side, the staff is friendly and nice. I will never have a procedure done here due to the lack of privacy which to me, compromises confidentiality. There are other, nicer places to get procedures done than this one. read more

My internist suggested that I have a diabetic eye exam, since it had been four years since my previous exam. As soon as I walked into the office, Hillary greeted me with a smile- as though we were long lost friends. After a brief wait and some preliminary testing, I met with Dr. Barnes, who instantly made me feel relaxed and confident in her very capable care. She listened to my concerns, explained what she was doing- and why she was doing what she did. I appreciated her professionalism and feel that she addressed my eye care concerns. Hillary finished up my visit with a frame fitting, and explained the billing in detail. They even went so far as to split the payment in half, so I could pay the balance due when I came back to pick up my new prescription glasses. I would highly recommend Dr. Barnes and her excellent team. read more

I wanted to have LASIK eye correction done for many years but I was nervous about the procedure. After my consultation at Hauser-Ross, I knew that now was the time to do it. The staff explained the procedure in detail and answered all my questions. They let me know about an 18 month finance program that was available - a very quick and easy online application process. They even called the night before surgery to see if I had any last minute concerns that I would like to discuss. The procedure was easy, painless and over very quickly. We were on our way home 1 hour and 20 minutes after our surgical appointment time. I could see clearly immediately after treatment. The worst part has been a little dryness of the eyes -- very comparable to a day of wearing my contacts too long. Dr. Tilton and the staff at Hauser-Ross have made this one of the best experiences of my life. I would encourage anyone who has been considering LASIK to make an appointment and talk to them. I now have 20/15 vision and absolutely no regrets. read more

I just want to throw it out there that Hauser Ross Optical is the worst doctors office i've ever been to..ever. Their staff is so unprofessional. I had a doctor in front of my exam room say "I know I should do the right thing and stay, but I just don't want to. We've got a patient who was late, one with Alzheimer, and one from the ER. No one really important." Really? I was the patient from the ER and let me tell you if this lady had to deal with the pain i've been dealing with off and on for years, it'd be important to her. Not only that but another doctor was trying to do rock, paper, scissors with a nurse so that he didn't have to go see the alzheimers patient. I'm just blown away by the lack of respect these health care "professionals" have. read more
