The pork was very good- the beans were somewhat dry- not typical Cuban flavor you'd expect from Miami and the only way to mess up fried plantains is to burn them- which they weren't, but how can they be dry? By the third bite, I knew this was a five star sort of place. I've had Havana's Cuisine at the Friday Food Truck events at Tower Grove Park, but didn't realize that they had a standalone restaurant. I'm sure glad I accidentally stumbled upon it! Here are the dishes I've had: - Mojo roasted pork - Super tender with some fattiness to it. This is my go to dish. I really like the comfort food feeling this provides. - Black bean soup - This one surprised me. I'm not a huge black bean fan, but the flavors in this black bean soup is amazing. - Plantains - I could eat these all day. - Rice - Very flavorful, pairs well with all of their dishes. - Yucca with mojo - The best yucca I've had. I love that I can taste the garlic flavor in the yucca. - Beef with cheese empanadas - Probably the best empanadas I've ever had. You can't go wrong ordering one of these. The parking at the restaurant is a bit of a pain because it's downtown, but it's totally worth it. There are a few restaurants I would deal with driving downtown for, this is definitely one of them. What a nice treat to have Cuban Food in St Louis. I dropped by for lunch and had a traditional Cuban sandwich and Sweet Plantains (Maduros). Both were fantastic. But it wasn't really that organized, all three of us ordered a mojito (I was thrilled to have some Cubano food and not be in south Florida), and our food got there and we were almost finished eating by the time the Mojitos we ordered before we ordered our food finally arrived. I had the Tampa Cuban. The portion size is almost more than I could eat. The sandwich was excellent! Lots of pulled pork with a nice smoky taste, pickles and salami. I was the first one in so the service was very quick. I've not had a whole lot of Cuban food but I can say it was quite tasty. The ambience for some reason reminded me of a 50's style place a bit. The reasonable 10-12 minute wait was worth it. It came with a sauce that looked like aioli. Not sure what it was, but I'm glad I tried it. Normally I'd think "don't' bastardize a good thing," but it added added to the already amazing sandwich; took it from a 9.5 to a ten. The food is great -the service is quite lacking. They did better when they were downtown-waiting on tables and doing carryout at the same time is too much for them. I have tried to order carry out from them twice since they moved and it was a horrible experience both times. The orders were very wrong when we picked it up. I've been a fan of Havana's Cuisine since they had a food truck, now that they have a brick and mortar location I'm ecstatic that I can get Cuban food any time. I'm from Miami (the 305) and I grew up with Cuban food in my home so I know the real deal when I taste it and oh brother, this is it! They always offer a nice selection of sandwiches with the Tampa Cuban being my favorite. They also have a nice selection of hot plates, today I got the roasted pork with white rice, black beans, and sweet plantains. Totally delicious and worth the drive from St Charles to downtown STL. We have tasted the feast that the wonderful team at Havana's Cuisine has brought to the Taste of STL for the past two years, but never made it to the brick and mortar until last weekend. It definitely won't be our last visit! Fast casual style where your order at the counter and the food is brought out to you. Not a big place but a steady and busy stream of people carrying out and dining in. We went about 12:30PM on a Saturday afternoon. I knew going in I was going to get their signature Cuban sandwich while my hubby got the Ropa Viejo (bbq beef). We just got the sandwiches whereas with the plate you can get sides. We didn't think we were that hungry, so we also just split a bag of chips. We got bottled drinks since their ice machine wasn't working but variety of Sodas and juices too. The portions are BIG. Glad we could split so we could try some of the other person's but one half was super filling. Focusing on the Cuban: PERFECTION! The meats and combo with the mustard, cheese and pickle was just great!! Kind of food that just makes you happy! I opted for a slice of flan before finishing my half of the tasty Ropa Viejo (just took a few bites). I am a sucker for flan and definitely thought this hit the right note of sweetness but not too sweet after the savory meal. Next time, I think we will try the Taste of Havana that gives you the mix of cooked meats + sides so we can enjoy some of the plantains and beans! Definitely recommend! Oh my goodness! As soon as you walk in, the delicious smells just hit you. This has been one of the best Cuban food I've had, and I'm originally from Miami. I ordered the "Special" and it was amazing, though way too much food! Two people could easily share it...it has congrí, plantains, yucca, ropa vieja, roasted pork, and a black bean soup. Its the real deal. As anyone in the Yelp community knows - that knows me - that I am always always in search of a solid Cuban sandwich that gets me as close as possible to the real thing. Have you ever really wanted a sandwich, gotten the sandwich and the bread was just....not right for what was inside? This bread is perfect... pressed, hot, and crisp, but pliable so you're not biting down and meat is falling all over the place. Its. Huge. You honestly don't need any sides. I have been searching for the best Cuban sandwich for a very long time and so far this one has my number one spot in the Midwest with very few even considered a "close second". There is only one single Cuban sandwich I would put on par with this one and it was Manny's Food Truck in Jacksonville, FL. But now, I have one just as awesome right here in STL. They had some traditional beverages, which helped complete the experience. I really enjoyed the food, the staff was helpful and friendly, and the serving was enough that I had some leftover for another meal.
