I love the have a heart humane society. Their pets are so friendly. I fell in love with dogs Domino, Tiny, Lone Ranger and Chug. Their selection of pets (dogs and cats) is amazing and they are all so cute. My family and I fostered cats Jupiter and Cole. We loved them and were happy they were adopted together! The thrift shop is attached to the adoption center and we often find little treasures for a great price! read more

Thrift and adopt all in one place. This is a well organized thrift store that also houses they have a heart Humane Society pet adoption center. When we came, there were kittens adult dogs and a puppy. Adopt don't shop! Except stop here for a thrift items to support this Humane Society. It is right off the main drag and has plenty of parking. The staff was friendly and offered any help if needed. read more

I just adopted my puppy about 6 weeks ago and the transition was flawless. They explained the contract process with me in full detail, made the appointment to get her fixed and sent me home with a goodie bag of the food they were feeding her. Also RAVE to their thrift store. Lots of great finds and the volunteers are all so sweet! read more

You may not understand how deeply devastating it is to surrender a pet. It was disrespectful to rename the kittens. Why ask what their names were if you were going to change them? More should be done to honor the wishes of the owners who are essentially giving up two of their "children" because our pets are our babies, we watched Shadow being born and raised them from babyhood. We listened to Shadow and Mane crying all the way to the shelter and it was heartbreaking. Why did you not offer to ask the new owner if we would be able to visit them? Why is there no mercy for the previous family, especially when a child is involved? I have heard you are not supposed to accept kittens unless the owner agrees to spay and neuter both parents, which I did not. It is good they have a home and she looks like a kind person. I am glad they went together because they will be less lonely. Thank you for selling them together. Next time please try to be more understanding and supportive of the family. I have to forgive you guys for my own wellness. I forgive you, and hope you learn something. read more

I've come here 2 times in the past week It's clean neat and the volunteers are very sweet and helpful, There's no carts or hands baskets to carry merchandise while shopping But they let me leave the big items up front ,they have car items and dog items, dog and cat toys and scratching posts & dog/cat beds pet clothes, In addition they have dishes, kitchen electronic items, clothes, purses, shoes DVDs , blankets, Ect ect. We were searching for a kitten and a dog that would be an ideal match for our family of five and 1 year old cat. We needed to be careful to find the right pets who would acclimate into our busy household and be gentle with our existing cat. After a month of searching through our local animal shelters and rescues, we still had not found the right matches. Finally through an internet search looking for a long hair orange/white kitten, I finally found what I was looking for out at Have A Heart Humane Society in Tehachapi. Excitedly I sent both an email and online inquiry through their website and then called the next day about the little cat. Gina quickly answered and confirmed the little kitten was available. She was patient enough to explain the adoption process, the background of the kitten, and listen to me blabber about our family and household since I wanted to make sure that she knew that I was committed to giving the kitten a good home. After I emailed her the application, we made arrangements to go meet the little guy. The 2+ hours drive on a Saturday was a long and boring drive far past Lancaster but totally worth it. When we arrived to the little antique store in Tehachapi where they set up Saturday pet adoptions, we saw their professional trailer outside and a large set-up of enclosures inside the store. We got to meet the foster parents and ask lots of questions. They had gorgeous kittens in a variety of colors and breeds and a litter of mixed breed puppies with the mother plus another enclosure of a few small dog breeds. Some of the pets were ready to go home if adopted that day while the younger ones were only to be reserved but would need to stay with the rescue until old enough to be fixed. We ended up falling in love with a 8 week old German shepherd/ lab mix puppy and two 7-week old kittens. The adoption process was super easy and thorough but not excessively judgmental. Between the written application that I previously sent in and meeting our whole family in person, they were able to assess our worthiness to adopt and allowed us to take a puppy home that day. We also reserved two little kittens with a deposit and they are staying in foster care until they will be fixed and ready to go home an estimated 5 weeks later. Things I love about this animal rescue and why they are worth a drive to check out: - They have a good variety of pets. Gorgeous kittens, cats, and dogs in good health. - They rescue some of their pets from the high kill Kern Shelter. - Their rescues live in foster homes and are well socialized and very loved. - They know animal care and have lots of experience. - While they didn't respond to my emails, they answered the phones quickly during their business hours each time I called and were patient to listen and help me with all my pet questions. - We were pleased that they didn't pressure us to take multiple pets if in sibling pairs but would adopt a single cat or dog if we only wanted one. Overall after being home with our new puppy for 10 days and having him assessed by our vet, we know that this rescue did a great job with this puppy. He is happy, sweet, in good health, partially potty trained and well adjusted. A huge plus is that he was socialized with cats and kittens so he has gained the trust of our existing cat and they already have a playful, loving bond forming. read more

Our family found a puppy here that we wanted to adopt. They informed us that we needed a fence to adopt with them. We live in Bear Valley, we went through the permit process, hired someone, and we're waiting on lumber, for the fence to be installed. I got a call today saying that because the fence isn't in yet, we can't adopt with them. They said that a 4 foot fence is too small for the dog( a shepherd mix) and basically they're sorry, but they don't care. I now have to explain to my kids that we won't be getting their puppy that we've been waiting on. So sad and disappointing. Be careful when adopting here!!! read more

Went here to adopt a puppy and was treated poorly. They were rude and disrespectful to me and my wife while we were there and treated other customers differently. They treated us like bad animal owners because we didn't have a vet, we just moved here and have been taking our animals to tractor supply for shots. Never going back and it's sad because my son loves animals and worked all weekend for a couple weekends selling golf balls, that he found, to golfers on the osktree golf course just to donate all that money to them. They need to try treating people with the same respect they seem to give to their animals. read more

Our family was looking for a Siamese kitten to adopt. After searching online we came across the Have a Heart Humane Society that had just what we were looking for. We immediately contacted them to find out if the kitten was still available (it was). And through a series of quick emails we filled out the adoption application and were told the kitten was ours if we came up the following Saturday and passed the "meet and greet" test. Well, we drove the long 2+ hour trip to Tehachapi (I had never been in Tehachapi before) and there in the kennel was the beautiful kitten we had seen online. We talked to the volunteers, filled out some paper work and paid and the kitten was ours. She is now at home and doing great. We had nothing but a great experience with the Have a Heart Humane Society. They have some great controls in place to make sure their animals are going to good homes.
