This is a great place to bring the dogs for a bath- adopted a Golden with lots and lots of fur. Staff were friendly, helpful and informative. No upsell pressuring. I got the Sunny's De-Shed and added the Antibacterial & Antifungal for her skin irritation. We were provided a FURminator and 2 other brushes and an extra towel because she knew our dog would require it. Very nice. The shop has a cold case for raw bones and cold food for the dogs. A ton of natural treats. Anything you need for your dogs are here- I didn't look at cat supplies, so I can't comment on that. My fur babies are boujee. Which is crazy, since they are both rescues. Turns out, they are both severely allergic to lots of general ingredients that you typically find in most dog foods. Self-serve pet spa has been a godsend. Prior to having them do an allergy test, they were both breaking out, had rashes and skin conditions. After switching foods , they have had zero issues for 5 years!! Food is always in stock. They have a cool loyalty program where after so many, one bag is free (after paying taxes). The food is more expensive, but it alleviates all the allergy,skin issues, and vet visit costs so in the long run it is actually cheaper. read more

Which is the cheapest I've seen it by the way. And the workers were not only very helpful in signing me up for the rewards program,which will eventually get me a free bag of her food! But they were also so gracious enough to bless Marge with samples of other healthy food for her to try which made me extremely happy and I'm sure my baby Marge will be extremely happy about it too! I recently started volunteering with Kern County Animal Services and have been participating in their Streets of Bakersfield program. Every other Saturday, they allow you to foster a dog for the day. This is perfect for helping to socialize the dogs and give them a day off from being at the shelter. This is also great for anyone thinking about getting a dog but not ready to commit or someone like me that can't have a dog due to unreasonable landlords or small living spaces. I was told that one place I could take the dogs was the groomers. I looked up a place where they let you wash your own dog and this spot came up with great reviews. I didn't realize they already had an existing deal with KCAS and the wash is free for those participating in the program. I brought in a three year old German Shepard and got the regular wash and added the de shedding treatment. It was my first time at one of these wash spots and the staff was super sweet and helpful. They helped me get the dog up into the tub and explained the order to use the products and how to protect the dogs eyes. They also helped me get the special lead on the dog so he wouldn't just jump out of the tub. The equipment was easy to use. The water was the perfect temperature. They even had a waterproof apron for me to use so I wouldn't get my clothes too wet. The staff was helpful and made me feel comfortable and confident that I could do the wash alone and I didn't feel rushed. Towards the end I was offered an extra towel since the dog was bigger and they anticipated that I'd need an extra towel. They thought of everything! I really enjoyed my dog washing experience and it was as nice to know they partner with the shelter for the streets of Bakersfield program. I found out that the dog was adopted and I'm sure the bath helped. I look forward to when I can have my own dog and I'll definitely be coming back here for bath time. read more

I've been coming to this location for some time (also purchase dog food here). But this review is about the dog washing. I have always been able to bring in my two pooches for washes without having to wait for an available booth. The staff is very friendly and efficient. I was asked throughout the process of washing if I needed anything and/or if everything was ok. I was provided extra towels as needed. Blowers are also available which are a bit loud and not accepted by all dogs. My dogs seemed to enjoy the experience especially the warm water. The supplies they use seem of good quality and smell great! The dogs even got an after bath spritz leaving them smelling even better. As soon as I was done they cleaned out the booth and were ready for the next guest, this is where efficiency comes in. I really appreciate the cleanliness of the location, everything always neatly placed and well stocked. I will continue to come here as long as the service remains great and at competitive pricing. There is a wide menu of self serve menu selections (perfume for your dog!, conditioner, anti-itch, etc) but I found for our first time, the basic was all that was needed. Wash, dry, brushing, wash cloth, towels, all included. The space is roomy enough and clean. I found coming on a week day, mid-day to be perfect as it was not very busy and there was no feeling whatsoever of being rushed. The store up front has a vast array of collars, leashes, healthy food, treats, doggie breath spray and the list goes on. They helped me and did a look up of Hershel's past treatments. The cost for the service I chose was only $20. Very reasonable. The bath water is warm for the fur babies. Whenever my dog needs a good cleaning, this is where I head to! I'm a repeat customer and this place is superb. The way it works is that you walk in, pick the type of shampoo package or service you want, and bring your dog to the pet friendly sinks. There are multiple sinks and I've always found space when I walk in. There are rope loops for your dog to wear while you wash so you don't have to get your puppy's collar wet. After the wash and dry, a dog treat comes free. Aside from being a self serve pet wash, you can also purchase natural dog food and other pet items. The expense can pile up if you bring your dog often so I treat my little girl roughly a couple times a month when I'm in town. So I've gone to two different Self Serve Pet Spa - one on the east side of Bakersfield and this one in Calloway. I will never support any other pet food and wash business again. Both have employees that KNOW their stuff and LOVE animals. We had to bring in our 175lb Anatolian to be bathed - he is a rescue and quite feral and sometimes aggressive - and they made it absolutely seamless and easy. Super helpful. Today we had to change brands away from Science Diet because it's making our dogs sick the last two months. So they gave me some samples to try and when I chose a few - they walked me through the ingredients, how much to feed, how to know what to examine on labels - and then brought up a screen to show the accuracy of his statements. I tried to get the guys name and remember it but I'm so bad with names, but he has longer hair and a moustache - I own a business and I would be lucky to have a gentleman this kind and knowledgeable on my staff. I'm permanently sold. They care and it's not just one good location, there are many. It was going to cost $150-$200 to have my Anatolian washed at a few diff places. It cost me $17 there and he had none of the trauma of a random person doing it. If you love your animals and specifically dogs, this is the place to go. Bathing a golden retriever is next to impossible in the tub at home and groomers are outrageous. Decided to give this place a try, used it in the past with our 30# dog. Happy to report the girl working that helped us was great! Friendly and helpful, it was obvious she enjoys her job and the dogs. Great place if you want to wash your dogs and not mess up your house or have to bend over a bathtub to scrub your furry kids. What an amazing service! They supply an area to wash your baby, supply the shampoo, conditioners, stuff for their ears and lots of different spa treatments you can treat them to also. But the best is no leaning over, a great area, towels and it is all left behind take your freshly washed dog home and everyone is happy. They also have a great selection of dog food, treats and accessories. Not to mention the owners are truly the nicest people I've ever met and this is really a great place to take your dog to wash them yourself and it's very reasonable and you know they are not locked up in a cage all day!!
