I made reservations for indoor seating and was on time. For some reason the hostess was a bit reluctant to seat me indoors and asked if I'd rather sit outdoors (that's a strike out for me, meaning I can't come back) meanwhile the other hostess bumped into me twice with no apology, no excuse me. Luckily what seemed like a manager tried to help by asking her to seat me indoors at the bar although there was a high top table and two other two seaters available. Which no one sat at for at least 30 minutes or more. The place is small but the ambiance is perfect for date night. Fresh roses everywhere, live band, and there's a vast wine selection!!! However, I didn't realize I was going to be near an actively used terminal/kiosk. There's nothing as annoying to me as eating food or drinking and being bumped throughout the stay. Regardless, the octopus tentacle was seasoned beautifully however hard for me to cut through with the knife that was provided. The tagliatelle with mushrooms was ok. But was a bit on the cooler side so the sauce didn't remain creamy. On to the best part, the tenders at the bar. They were very attentive and suggested great selections. If it wasn't for the men in this establishment who put their best foot forward, I would give one star. read more

This place is a cute classic Italian restaurant in Williamsburg. It has dim lighting, rustic decor, and an array of italian wines to choose from. The staff is very helpful and the manager makes you feel like family. The menu has an assortment of charcuterie options and the pastas are all kept classic to Italy. I had a firm bufalo cheese that came with apples, bread, and fresh honey. I ordered to single serving and it was a really great portion! Ambiance romantic, beautiful exterior but the food is underwhelming and becomes overpriced. All portions sitting on top of a lot of bread to give an impression of big portions. The octopus main course with potatoes and tomatoes came with 1/2 a tomato and 1 tiny potato, salad and 2 pieces of sourdough bread. Tagliatelle was not home made and needed salt. Wine list impressive, espresso and cappuccino very good. Chocolate soufflé is like a lava cake. Understaffed and lacked in attention and service. We didn't get our main courses at the same time, and when telling the waiter, he was confused as what to do. We booked our table through Open Table. But the restaurant never checked us in, so we also got an email reprimanding us for not showing up. I would only come back for the wine list. read more

This new spot has Italian wine, crafted cocktails and draft beer and great bites like yummy charcuterie plates, olives, fresh crostini, and so much more. This "chatteria" meaning casual dinnertime chatter, is the perfect setting for just that. The vibe is awesome and has a wonderful atmosphere. The decor has an old timey feel with a side of modern- which includes a taxidermy boars head and wine bottle covered walls. We walked out and went to this great Mexican place on Roebling and Hope called Hope Street. Well spaced tables. Safe professional and wonderful service and good Mexican authentic food. Meh taste homemade but more like from your parents who can't cook. The tomatoes and olive oil are delicious but the pasta is a hard pass. My sis ordered a ragú, it was more sauce than meat (maybe there was a shortage.........) and the pasta was really soft and chewy. I ordered a cheesy pasta, it tasted good when it arrived then quickly coagulated into an unappetizing clump because of the cheeses used (the pasta was perfectly al dente:). Overall there are a crap load of Italian/pasta joints and this place is not one of them unless you want the best tomatoes ever. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in New York. Hosted a private event that included a dinner for 20 followed by drinks for close to 40. Dani and Ale were extremely accommodating of our requests and made the whole night seamless and amazing. The private room was gorgeous and the wine and food was fantastic. We had a reservation and were sat in an outdoor enclosure on the street while it was pouring rain and cold out instead of in the restaurant. The door to the enclosure did not close automatically and every waiter left the door open as they were going in and out, letting all the cold air and rain inside. One of our dishes arrived after clearly sitting in the kitchen for a while because it was not hot. The other dish was supposed to be a crab pasta and didn't have any crab meat in the sauce. It was served with 4 small crab claws on top and no seafood fork to actually get any meat out. The restaurant shoves as many people as it can into a small space and only has one single restroom with no room for people to wait in line. It was a girl night out, my best friend and I were already ate but we still went to Have & Meyer for a nice glass of wine. We walked by this place many times but didn't have a chance to try. We sat at a bar then ordered drinks. Bartender gave us uneven amount of wine. After she finished pouring wine to my glass, she has a little bit left in a bottle then she poured to my friend glass. It was so obvious that my friend didn't get amount of wine that she supposed to get. The bartender walked away and we thought she will get another of bottle and filled up for my friend....NO she didn't. So I asked her and showed her but she still say the glass was different. We said back even glass was different but you can tell another glass was so much less than another. Finally she gave my friend more wine. I just don't understand something so simple but some people still didn't get it. Overall the restaurant looks very nice. I like that they put lot of pictures around the restaurant. The light and decorations are very romantic. I want to try their food someday. read more

I have to agree with the negative reviews that this place is very overpriced. HOWEVER, it happens to be one of the most charming spots I've encountered in Williamsburg. I came for a glass of wine on a rainy afternoon and couldn't have imagined a better setting. It truly is a portal to Italy - very rustic with an eclectic crowd. The black diamond cheese was delectable and I really appreciated the presentation - for an order of one cheese, it was paired with toasted bread, fresh figs and fig spread. A perfect afternoon snack. This place is TINY and the staff is RUDE. Save yourself the trouble, even with a reservation!!! DO NOT go here for a date!!! My boyfriend and I booked a reservation here for our Anniversary. We even specified that it was our Anniversary, so you would've thought they'd be a little more courteous of our special day. NOPE. We showed up on time and were shocked at how small it was, however, a few two-tops were leaving so we wouldn't mind waiting to get a table where we could sit and look at each other, yanno, because it was our anniversary and all... Half of the seating in this place is at the bar or on a 2-inch ledge along the wall. SO UNCOMFY!!! There ARE actually 8 tables in the restaurant, however, 4 of them are outside on the uneven sidewalk. You can imagine how especially inconvenient this is in the winter when they attempt to cover it and add tables where people are walking in and out. When we were waiting and saw a couple getting up from an inside table, we politely asked if we could sit there - the waitress flat out said NO. I asked why not, as it is a two-person table, we have a reservation, and would like to have a romantic anniversary dinner? She said they were saving it ~JUST IN CASE~ a big party comes in so they can push it together with the table next to it (where a 3 top was not even done eating yet...). She motioned us to the tiny outside entrance area, where we were rubbing elbows with another party, and having my back brushed when patrons walk in and out. Not to mention my boyfriend was sitting directly under the blasting space heater, which was clearly an attempt to make up for the entrance door swinging open and shut. Needless to say, after sitting for 2 minutes he was literally sweating, we were VERY uncomfortable, and I called and booked a reservation at a better Italian spot in the neighborhood. When the waitress heard me on the phone booking a reservation elsewhere, she had the manager come over and ask what was going on. We told him we were uncomfortable and this was not the romantic anniversary date we had planned. We told him there was an open table that we were denied, and that we had been willing to wait for another table inside. He simply shrugged and said ok. Obviously he was just as rude as the waitress, it was uncomfortable, and the place was all around unworthy of our money, so we left. We live in the neighborhood and dine out a lot but due to the terrible customer service, rudeness, and clear value of profit over customer satisfaction, we will never try this place again (and will be sure to spread the word about our experience). Thankfully, we ended up having a great night elsewhere, where we spent a lot of money... probably more than whatever 5 top they would've sat. read more

I find the inconsistency of their taste and quality to be a bug not a feature. Going any place that specializes in these types of wines is not my usual thing. I was pleasantly surprised. Got some great recommendations and really enjoyed what I drank. Tried a couple of things and super impressed. The thing I really enjoyed was the butter and anchovies. Bomb Gnocchi! I had the gnocchi with white cheddar, parmesan and truffle oil and my boyfriend got the gnocchi with lobster tail. His was better! The pasta itself was very chewy and had great flavor, but mine was a bit plain for my taste - just some cheese and oil. The lobster on my boyfriends' was perfectly cooked and buttery, and it came with some light tomato sauce that I loved. The cocktails were also quite nice. At first, I asked for a screwdriver because I needed some vitamin C. The waiter gave me a polite "what?" and a blank stare, so I opted for a cocktail made with an orange wine. It was nice to have part wine, part icy drink. I'd come back for a nice ambience and some great pasta - but not a great place to get fucked up on well drinks... I used to enjoy this place because they have a decent pasta and wine selection, that is until last night. My husband and I sat for our 8 PM reservation, and the food we ordered didn't hit our table until 10:15 PM. Over two hours for two simple pasta dishes? I can't come back to this place after something that egregious happens. Not to mention, the order wasn't even correct. We were given a pasta dish that we did not order. At that point though, we didn't even care we just wanted to get out of there and never look back. Agree with other reviewers about the food: it's not good. Extremely bland. We got two pastas, the carbonara & the truffle gnocchi. Neither had much flavor or sauce. Had it been amazing food, we probably wouldn't have cared. Also, the cheese/meat boards are crazy priced. $15 for one selection. That's not one cheese & one meat. That one of either a cheese or meat. If you want one cheese and one meat, it's "2 selections" and $29! What's good: the natural / orange wine selection. Best we've ever seen at a restaurant or bar. But again, glass and bottle prices are pricey. And glass pours are stingy so you're better off getting a bottle, which defeats the purpose if you're there to try a few different types. I've been to Have & Meyer a few times now and really enjoy it. As the new kid on the block, it is definitely a welcome addition to the neighborhood. They have an excellent selection of drinks and wines, including a draft Negroni, which is pretty awesome. If you're hungry they offer some light bites and Italian small plates to nibble on. The service is outstanding and the bartenders are very skilled and friendly, which I appreciate. It is a small place that is beautifully decorated with a nice atmosphere.
