It is a rustic, outdoorsy camp, no cell phones allowed here! Camp Mah-Kah-Wee is a Girl Scout camp. They offer programs throughout they year for girls and have overnight camps during the summer. I have been to Mah-Kah-Wee many times over the years with my daughters, and I really appreciate that we have a facility like this so close to home. The camp surrounds a lake so there are many water activities like canoeing and kayaking available during the summer. There is also a swimming pool. They offer all of the standard camp activities like archery and crafts and they also have an obstacle course. My kids love this place. During the summer the week-long camps are themed so you can find something to match your child's interests. As for the facilities, the best place to stay is in the cabins. They have air conditioning! In Florida you NEED air conditioning in the summer. I've also chaperoned overnights in the tents, which aren't so bad, and a building they call the Eco Center, which is a bit more like a enclosed porch... no AC there. Overall, it's a great place. I highly recommend it. The prices for overnight camp are very good and the kids have a great time.

She is one of those educators who you immediately know is doing what she was meant to do. She is incredibly passionate about STEM, education, and learning, but more than that, she is passionate about creating experiences for children that they simply cannot get anywhere else. She goes above and beyond every single day, and you can feel how much she truly cares about the children and their experience at school. I was incredibly lucky to have my oldest son accepted into the Orlando Science Center Preschool when some of our school friends decided to leave our previous preschool for what they felt was a better program. We had heard so much about the Science Center Preschool and knew what an incredible opportunity it would be if we could get a spot. And I am SO grateful we got that spot. My oldest son, who is now 7, truly developed his personality at this school. He wore dinosaur shirts constantly, brought his favorite animal figurines for show & tell every week, and fell completely in love with science, space, engineering, nature, and everything around him. But what I loved most was that the school gave him the freedom and confidence to just be himself. The preschool also taught him something I value tremendously: respect. They celebrated different cultures, values, backgrounds, and perspectives and taught children to appreciate what makes each person unique. That kind of foundation is priceless. My son is now enrolled in one of the top ranked charter schools in the state, and while I am incredibly proud of him and happy with his education and grades, I truly credit the Orlando Science Center Preschool with giving him the fundamentals and confidence that helped prepare him for where he is today. And I have to admit... I miss the dinosaur shirts. I miss the silly Mohawk. But most of all, I miss those daily updates with pictures and videos showing us exactly what our child was experiencing, learning, discovering, and enjoying throughout the day. Fast forward a few years, and I am reminded of all of those things again because my baby, now 3, is officially a Science Center Preschool student. There was absolutely no question in my mind that he would attend this school. He was enrolled in the 3 year old program as soon as we had the opportunity. I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Before starting at the Science Center, my youngest attended a part time church preschool. I want to be very clear that we loved that school and the people there. They were incredibly loving and sweet and will always hold a special place in our family's heart. But having now experienced both environments, I can already see such a difference in the learning style and opportunities when comparing the two side by side. (Ms. Chau, Ms. Michaela my baby loves you!) He WANTS to go learn. For a three year old, I can't think of a better gift than that. My oldest still remembers all of the things that made the Science Center so special. When I asked him what he thought about his little brother going there, his only wish was that he could still go there himself as a second grader. And that says everything. Ms. Juanita somehow always seems to be pulling strings and creating opportunities for our kids, from getting them into special events and theater experiences across the street, opd firetruck surprises, to sending home books, creating incredible show and tell experiences, plays/events for parents and finding ways to make learning exciting and memorable. I still have books that were given to us during my oldest son's preschool years. I still remember the excitement of his weekly show and tell. I remember the daily photos and videos, the weekly take home agendas with curriculum information, and all of the ways the school kept us connected and involved in our child's learning even when we weren't physically there. As a parent, that means so much. You aren't just dropping your child off and hoping they had a good day. You get to SEE it. You get to be part of it. You get to watch them discover something new, make friends, explore, ask questions, and grow. My oldest had such an incredible experience here that there was never a question about where his little brother would go. And now, only two weeks into this new chapter, I am already seeing that same excitement for learning beginning in him. I truly cannot give this school enough credit. Orlando Science Center Preschool is hands down the best preschool in Florida in my eyes. It is so much more than a preschool. We have been attending school at this location since my son was 2 years old; back then it was ran…read moreby Creative Inspiration Journey School then AEA bought the location in fall of 2018. The transition was painful since the school decided to undergo remodel without closing, it was basically a construction site for a few weeks. We took vacation time and was promised everything will be done by the time we get back so we did not pull him out. The director Ms. Vanessa and Ms. Lindsey that remained from the CIJS management team were also a big reason in our decision of staying. My son has speech and language delay and can get really upset with changes, therefore we stuck through hoping this way he wouldn't need to adjust to a new school and leave the people that he had become close to. We did like the curriculum of AEA but started to notice a big turn over rate of the teachers when he was in the 3 year old classroom, there is a few times we were not even able to learn the teacher's name before she is no longer with AEA. During that time Ms. Vanessa also left but the transitional director Ms Domi was amazingly organized, attentive and reliable, whenever we encountered an issue she was able to communicate and actively providing a solution to resolve the problem. We also started attending both AEA and Longwood Elementary's speech and language program and Ms. Domi was able to work with us through some potty training issue we had due to transitioning between the classrooms. She stepped down to be assistant director after AEA found a new director Ms. Jennifer in spring of 2019. Later on of the year while he is in the 4 year old VPK classroom the amount of students become so large that they have to split it into two but everyone still share the same classroom just with a divider in the middle which doesn't stop the noises from affecting each side. I understand they want to maximize the space but shouldn't the quality of the learning environment for their students and teachers be prioritized? As a parent I believe keeping an open communication with my son's school is the key to assist him in his education journey so I had numerous conversations with his teachers from both AEA and Longwood Elementary school. Unfortunately even though both schools are willing to inform me of my son's area of improvement, only Longwood Elementary was able to provide constructive feedbacks with helpful suggestions so that I can also be on the same page with him at home. ======= I have written the above review back in March of 2020 shortly before we pulled him out of AEA, I sit on my thoughts for almost half a year now to give myself time to process and view the situation objectively. I finally decided to post my review as of today, September 13 2020. In the end we had parent teacher conference almost weekly but were told the same thing each time; basically just that the school/teacher doesn't know how to work with my child's need so instead of redirecting and guiding him to be on task they just let him do what he wants to avoid tantrums. I know he still had some great time and made some good friends at AEA, but unfortunately even without the outbreak of COVID-19 we would have pulled him out or probably be suggested to leave the school anyway which we felt was suggested during the conferences with the director. I understand each child/family's experience with a school is unique to themself, so I can only share what my family had experienced. AEA's teachers and staff are all very caring and loving although some might lack the experience or training in working with students with special needs. I hope by sharing my experience AEA can become an amazing school for every student that walks through their door.

We were very clear that our son has not attended nor been in a daycare/school environment ever and wanted assurances that they have experience and were able to deal with this type of scenario to which their response was - absolutely! The school had cameras that were accessible whenever your child is there which was a deal breaker for us. We both felt like this would be stimulating mentally and physically for our 2.5 year old son. He is very sociable and doesn't hesitate to interact with other kids and we felt like he needed more social interaction. We elected to enroll him daily but half days just to see how he would cope as this was the first time he would be in a school environment without his parents. My wife and I were glued to the camera out of apprehension and were dismayed to see that they just left him to his own devices. He started crying when he realized we weren't around and the teacher, Ms Aaliyah was consoling him at first. He was then left alone without any interaction from other kids or teachers. Another staff member joined the class around 9-Ish but was playing with her phone the majority of the time. They started circle time around 9am. All the other kids (who have been attending the school for a while) sat down with the teacher while my son was standing a few feet away watching them. I understand that this maybe a tactic used and rather than force the child to interact, leave him to join when he is comfortable but I feel like a little persuasion and attention would have led to him being more involved. The next few hours was much the same. My child was not being engaged by the staff and was literally outside the group by himself whilst the class continued their curriculum. Our son is a picky eater and despite food/snacks being provided, we packed him some snacks and food along with a water bottle - just in case. We were told that the schedule calls for nap time between 12-1:30pm so we didn't feel the need to send a blanket and bedding for him since we would be picking him up by noon. Around 11ish, we noticed the little kiddy cots come out for the children to nap on. My wife arrived at Amazing Explorers at around 11.30 to find the class of kids all asleep and our son, sitting in the dark at a table, hunched over a slice of cold pizza we had packed for him, with tears in his eyes. He saw his mother and ran to her, holding her tightly and bawling his eyes out. We cancelled our enrollment that afternoon. I believe Ms Aaliyah is a Sophomore and, in my opinion, completely out of her depth when dealing with new additions to the school. To leave my son alone in the dark without the common sense to heat up a slice of pizza is insulting and offensive! My poor boy is so traumatized by this experience, if you mention the word school, you can see fear in his expression. He has been having nightmares for the first time in his life. I wish I could turn back time and remove the memory of this traumatic experience. This is not what a 2 year old should have to experience.

This summer he has opted for the overnight option because he has felt he was "missing out" by only going to day camp. My son has attended MANY different summer camps of all types, day and overnight, sports, academic, music, Boy Scouts, Disney, Sea World, in state, out of state, etc. ID Tech is at the top of his list. The staff to camper ratio is excellent and the staffers are terrific - high energy, fun, young, computer geek types. My son has been to the camp at both UCF and Rollins College - both facilities have been good. And my son has always commented that the food is great! The only negative is the cost - it's expensive. This camp is not for every kid. But if you've looked at the courses and your son or daughter has an interest in these programs, I don't think you'll find better.

It has taken me years to find my confidence and self-worth due to the constant berating and patronizing remarks made during dance class and rehearsal. It is extremely difficult not to start believing in the negative remarks when it has a constant presence and is coming from someone of authority. While these events did take place over 10 years ago, I cannot imagine Maria providing children a positive and healthy dance environment to learn, create and grow.
