Hawaiian/Alaska, Airlines has just merged into one company. A few perks were taken away and for me it kinda sucks because we now can't buy into the " premier club". The website at first had some issues but they seem to have worked out the bugs to book a flight. Hopefully the new meals that be offered to purchase will be a lot better then those pizza pocket like meals. read more

Hawaiian Airlines has limited flights out of Hilo as it only flies to Honolulu and Kahului. The latter only has one flight a day arriving into Hilo in the early evening and flying out to Kahului in the morning. The airport itself is very small, so it is easy to go through security and get to the gates in a short amount of time. I usually just wait in the main terminal area for a while because it is much nicer than sitting at the gates. It feels almost like a lounge with the rattan chair seating, even though it is a public area. The interisland flights on Hawaiian still use Boeing 717 planes, which are pretty simplistic. It has no Wi-Fi and just a tiny tray table. Service just consists of a cup of water or POG. But I really love the leisurely feel of the interisland flights. The planes fly at an altitude in which you can see the coastline of the islands you are flying past. It is a real treat to fly over Mauna Kea on flights to and from the Big Island. The vibe is so chill that it is like you are on a sightseeing flight, rather than trying to get from point A to point B like at other destinations. read more

I commute at least once a week between neighbor islands for work and cannot remember the last time I was not delayed. Today's scheduled departure @ 5:40 PM, now at 7:40 PM. What is going on HAL?!? Their fares during times when islanders are traveling inter island, such as during the holidays, indicates their greediness and taking advantage of local people. For example, today a RT from Lihue to Hilo is priced from $302.00 to $529.00. I don't give a rat's ass if Hawaiian disappears under Alaska Airlines. Exceptional service all around. My grandson and I went to Hilo to pick up a dog that I had bought from a breeder. We ran into a problem with the size of our kennel being 1" higher than necessary. The ticket agent told us that we would have to get another kennel to transport Ruby back to Honolulu. I was in a dilemma as our flight was scheduled to board in 8-10 minutes and I was panicking. My grandson is always calm and collected and he sort of calmed me down just by being there. The baggage guy comes out and says that they can fit the huge kennel into the back of the plane so no worries. I cried a little for happiness. Moments like this is why I remember why I moved back home from Washington, because of the Aloha and the people of Hawaii. Well done Hawaiian airlines. read more

Scrubs, can't fly to Hilo because of a little rain and cloudy weather (there were no thunder and lightning, slight breeze). Usually I receive a email with a survey stating how my flight was, I guess they know they won't get any positive reviews so they don't send out the survey. My flight was canceled only 1/2 hour before departure time, they could have cancel earlier when they knew the Honolulu to Hilo flight would not leave the ground in Honolulu. Brother in law looked at flight tracker and it showed small plane from Molokai to Hilo flew in that weather, go figure. read more

Heading home from Hilo , can't get better than this. At the Hilo airport the configuration is so different from Honolulu. Once you pass TSA's checkpoint it looks like someone's living room. After using the lua(restrooms) head up the escalator to your gate. Contrary to other airports, you wait in a seat in rows facing forward like in a movie theater. Once the boarding announcement is made and your zone is called scan the barcode on your ticket into the reader. That's it. Early on during the flight you'll be offered a sealed plastic cup of juice or water. Jf you've had a fun filled time here or are just plain pooped, buckle up then enjoy a fabulous nap and konk out til you arrive in Honolulu. read more

I enjoyed my experience with Hawaiian Airlines. I was taking a short 1-hour flight from Hilo to Honolulu. For this route (ITO) to (HNL), Hawaiian Airlines had departures and arrivals for what seemed like every hour, on the hour. I did notice Southwest Airlines having a flight to Honolulu as well. But while here in beautiful Hawaii, I might as well get the opportunity to fly the local carrier rather than going with one of the standard big airlines. I purchased my ticket online. It cost $99 for the one-way flight. As per my usual routine, I booked one of the earliest departures out of Hilo. I had a 7am flight. Hilo Airport was pretty small. Upon returning my rental car, I went straight through security without an issue and then sat down at my gate. Just to backtrack one step...I actually had to first go to a kiosk to print out my boarding pass since I never downloaded the Hawaiian Airlines App. But that was quick and easy. Everything went smoothly. I boarded on-time for Honolulu. The aircraft was a Boeing 717, which I believe Hawaiian Airlines uses as their primary jets for island hopping. The configuration inside the plane was 2x3.....2 seats on the left hand side and 3 seats on the right hand side. Since I was traveling alone, I pre-selected my seat on the left-hand side and got fortunate that no one picked the seat next to me. We left the gate promptly and immediately headed for the runway. For this 1-hour flight, I was excited to just look out the window and appreciate the sights and surroundings from high above. It was a pleasant morning to fly with virtually no clouds in the sky. I found taxiing down the runway to be quite exhilarating. It seemed longer than the average length for a takeoff, where we reached an incredibly fast speed. I was able to recognize the power and liftoff strength of the airplane. And then in an instant we thrust off the ground and were airborne! Once in the air, the plane made a sharp left turn around The Big Island and headed straight for Oahu. The in-flight service was just fine. They served complimentary beverages. I chose juice, which was a passion-orange-guava nectar. It was something different than your standard ole orange juice. Also, it was flavorful and the right refreshment I was craving to awaken my taste buds, lol. Before long we were flying over the coastline of Oahu and descending into Honolulu Airport. Overall, I had a good experience with Hawaiian Airlines. Everything went according to plan, stress free and just the way I like it for a quiet early morning flight. And that's it. Within an hour after arriving in Honolulu, I had my rental car with me and was venturing off to hike to the summit of Diamond Head State Monument! read more

It was already a bad sign when the baggage check in agent started with me about not notating my mom uses a wheelchair. She said I need to ask for assistance online. I told her online stated I needed to call for wheelchair assistance. That's why we check in extra early. We arrive at the gate an hour and 20 minutes before flight time. A gate agent shows up about 10 minutes later because there's an incoming flight at this gate. She has her personal bag and I know she's just setting up. I give her sometime and 2 Hawaiian ramp employees come by and talk story. Foolish me thought she was "working" so I stood behind one of the ramp guys and waited 6 mins without being acknowledged or greeted. They were talking about their weekend activities. I walked back to my seat to wait for another opportunity to approach her and ask for assistance with the wheelchair. About 5 minutes after the ramp guys left I went back to the podium to ask for help. She doesn't even make eye contact or greet me. I asked for the assistance I needed, she asks for the boarding pass. Click, click and hands me the boarding pass without even looking up or telling me it's taken care of. I'm so sorry I bothered you when I thought you were "working". She was rude and curt with other people that stopped by with questions. This attitude has nothing to do with Alaska Airlines taking over Hawaiian as some other travelers commented. We the travelers are their paychecks. They need to be reminded of this even though they have the monopoly on Interisland travel. Hawaiian Air, your front of house employees need to do better! read more

Hawaiian Airlines employees try hard and a lot are wonderful, but if their company won't prioritize outer island passengers as they do their Honolulu residents, all they can do is kindly deal with disgruntled people like me. Most recently our flight reservations from Hilo to Honolulu to Austin were changed a total of five times with nothing more than email notifications that bizarrely felt like being left on Read. Over the course of a month our departure times morphed from 7AM to 9AM to 6AM back to 9AM until finally canceled and rescheduled for the next business day. The last email notifying us that our flight was delayed a whole day due to "crew rest" came at 5AM departure day (wow!), making me wonder who didn't check their emails. We spent over an hour on the phone trying to get confirmation that they would honor our existing later flights and if it was even possible to get on another flight that would get us into Honolulu in time to make our connecting flight to Austin. Hold island music and a customer service rep who sounded like she was picked to read in class, aaaand we got nowhere. Not wanting to lose a whole day of our vacation, we booked Southwest flights to Honolulu and did it ourselves. This meant hauling ass and rechecking baggage and being very annoyed with Hawaiian airlines until forever. read more

This is like riding Greyhound over the Pacific Ocean. Seats are not comfortable, about 12" from edge of seat to back of seat in front of you. They demand window shades be pulled down during flight when you paid for a window seat. They provide water in a jello cup or a can of water for 3.50. No Wi-Fi for a 5 hour flight? This is 2023! 1st and last time, I think Southwest Airlines has more class and better service. They got two stars because we took off and landed safely. The connecting flight to Hilo from Honolulu l, that airplane needs some TLC as far as seats and cleanliness. read more

We took a one day trip over to the big island from Oahu expecting to return to Honolulu in time for dinner. That was not the case. I've flown enough to know that flights get delayed for various reasons. But to have 2-3 other flights, bound for Honolulu arrive, deplane and head back while we on flight 351 are kept waiting, and to have numerous false statuses given about the flight ... "it'll be here within the hour", "it'll be here in a few minutes", "we're getting you another aircraft" ... this is completely unacceptable for a contemporary airline!! The decision to make plane changes should have been made early on ... not almost 2 hours after being overdue!!! I will never fly Hawaiian again and make certain others I know who want to travel to Hawaii don't either. The trip had been great up to this point. Dinner plans are shot as is our patience!! It's now 7:31pm and we're still waiting to see our plane on the tarmac for what should have been a 5:30pm departure!! ... now we're being told 8pm. read more

Under gate 6, the lounge is tucked in the corner and you can easily miss it if you don't go looking or know it's there. Like other Hawaiian lounges, it's pretty minimal but provides soft drinks, coffee and tea. Some pau hana snacks you help yourself to. No restrooms so go before entering. Free Wi-Fi. TVs in two rooms and a center area with two computer counters. Charging units throughout. Not the nicest, but quiet place to wait for your flight. Gates super close by, just up the stairs. read more

Flight from SMF-OGG 12/19/22 This comes the day AFTER the turbulence upset in which individuals were hospitalized. Great flight from Sacramento to OGG. I was surprised and loved the concept that each of the seats had device chargers and phone/tablet holders built in (I would later find that this appears to only be the case in the newer planes). Food and drinks were included- a stuffed bagel like sandwhich, cookies and a free sample of a tropical rum drink. The people I sat next to were really great too and we ended up talking the whole time and becoming friends. OGG-ITO (Same-day) scheduled for 5 hour lay over Delayed 30 min Delayed another 40 min Delayed 2 more hours Delayed 4 more hours Delayed 2 more hours Flight Cancelled *The offer: fly me to HON and put me in a hotel, but would have to purchase a new flight to the big island (Yeah, not condusive to my travel plans). It is now 12:30 am on 12/20- I am sleep deprived and over travelling. Watching many people fly out and cannot find another soul that would have been on my flight. I proceeded to the counter at the gate I was assigned to. Joshua the attendant was awesome and did a great job at remaining calm. He reported that the offer to fly to HON was there- after asking if I could get on the next flight to Kona instead, J spoke with his superiors whom were able to make that happen. The couple in line behind me (who also became friends by the end of this) chose the same option. The flight from OGG to now KONA was very turbulent and the seatbelt sign remained on the whole time. We landed at 2:15 am. My cousin drove from the Hilo side to the Kona side to pick me up. **Flight home 12/27/2022 Flight delays across the board all over the country Check in process easy Bag check in process- easy Flight from ITO - OGG a breeze with excellent views of Mauna Lea's snow capped sights. A very quick 40 min up and down flight OGG- SMF Delayed, this time only by 40 minutes Flight was smooth for the most part, some turbulence in Sacramento who was now in the aftermath of the storm that set-back the flight affecting my arrival days ago. Overall HA has great and friendly staff, but I would suggest re-visiting the workflows surrounding these upsets. read more

We had booked multi-leg trip through Delta that used "Partner" Hawaiian Airlines (HAL) between islands. For their part, HAL got us where we needed - eventually... but not without over a lot of wasted vacation time and unnecessary anxiety. 1) An hour before check-in for next day's flight to Kona we get a text from HAL that our flight was cancelled. Okay, cutting slack for COVID or whatever reason (none was given) we were still worried about how to continue the next leg of our trip. We had no place to stay if we couldn't travel, and expensive reservations waiting the next day. They gave us a Toll-Free number to "call" ... after hours of trying, all we got was BUSY SIGNAL and WE NEVER GOT THROUGH. There was no way to rebook on HAL website, since ticketing was through Delta. So, spending 4 hours on hold getting through to Delta we rebooked for a later HAL flight - but had to pay fare difference, even though it wasn't our fault we had to make a flight change. 2) Arriving at the airport, HAL was a mess. Although our reservation included checked bags, they insisted we had to pay because, "we're not Delta Airlines." I get that, but we paid Delta - who already paid HAL for our seats and baggage. 3) Finally getting on the plane, there were a ton of open seats. My guess is the earlier cancellation wasn't COVID related, just saving expense to consolidate flights. We were in Economy seats and after boarding, all Exit Rows were open. On any other airline, we've been allowed to move to open seats, but not on HAL. At first, the flight attendant said we couldn't sit there because of Exit Row requirements. I responded, "as long as we meet Exit Row requirements, why can't we sit there?" His response, "more money." I get it, they market them as Premium seating. After cancelled flights, additional charges and vacation time lost... the least HAL could have done was let us sit there. The Customer Service value would cost them nothing. No. Who sat there instead? Uniformed HAL employees, probably being repositioned. I'm not begrudging that staff deserves to be treated well, but aren't we the paying customers? Through everything it seemed the message HAL was sending was, we don't need you - you need us - so live with it. EASY FIX - Obviously, HAL had our cell numbers, because they texted us that the flight was cancelled, due to low occupancy. It would have been easier for them to simply put us on another flight and tell us of the time change. Better yet, since there were only about 30 people booked, they could have called us. Rather than have us keep calling their toll-free and never getting through, one of their agents could have called us (same amount of time on the phone for their agents). We paid a premium for everything on this trip, costs were about 30% higher than in the past. We knew that going in. The cost of more than a half-day of lost vacation time and toll of having your itinerary cancelled mid-trip... priceless. read more

Hawaiian Airlines does not honor the status of code-share airlines!!! Beware if you buy a ticket on another airline, but your flight originates in Hawaii. I bought a full fare, round trip ticket on American Airlines from Hilo to Dallas. I'm an American Platinum member and as such, entitled to 2 free bags. Hawaiian does not honor the status and charged me $60 for 2 bags. "If you purchase a Ticket on a Codeshare Flight, you are subject to our Contract of Carriage with respect to ticketing and most general matters, regardless of the airline that operates the flight." I bet Hawaiian Airlines expects their Pualani Platinum members to get their bags checked for no-charge by American Airlines. read more

Since the demise of Aloha airlines and the loss of any competition, Hawaiian Airlines has steadily gone down hill. 1. Flights are constantly delayed. 2. The HA app is plagued with problems. 3. Ever try to speak to a rep? You can hardly understand what they are saying. When you ask for a local rep, the response is, none are available. 4. The premier lounge is not fully stocked, broken machines, toilet not sanitary. 5. HA pushes the expensive comfort seats by making the regular seats so confining. 6. Same with so many zones - you have to pay in order to board first. Bring back Aloha Airlines where Aloha came first I could go on but what good will it do read more

On 12/31 7:30am, as we arrived to the check in kiosks at Hilo airport, the Hawaiian Airlines lady at the counter greeted us and asked if we needed help with anything. And told us she could help us there if we needed. She was friendly and nice this early in the morning! When dropping off my luggage at bag drop, the gentleman who scanned my bag was very friendly and courteous, he even addressed me by name!! I felt like this was awesome customer service. I've never felt the aloha spirit from any other interaction with Hawaiian Airlines in the past until this morning. This is the example you'd expect to see with Hawaiian Airlines, but never got to experience. As low as I feel about Hawaiian Airlines based on all my past travels with them, today, they actually gained a point on my books. Keep up the good work Hilo team, Hawaiian Airlines still has a looooooong way to go, and I hope your aloha spirit is represented in the rest of the company read more

Smaller premier lounge located on the far left add you enter the gated waiting area. Being that this is in Hilo and a smaller airport Hawaiian Airlines Premier Club lounge is just what you would expect, a cute waiting area. It is a comfortable space with two working stations, lounge chairs, charging outlets, soda machine, hot beverages and complementary snacks. The lounge was very clean and a nice way relax before board for your scheduled flight. Granted it might not be as fancy as other airport lounges, but it is Hilo. Mahalo Hawaiian Airlines! read more

I love Hawaiian Airlines. It's my favorite airline carrier. I always look forward to flying with Hawaiian because the staff is always so pleasant and friendly, the service is great, and I love that not only do they have great shows to watch (Hawaiian Skies) and great magazines to read (Hana Hou), they also give you juice and water on inter island flights and meals on longer destinations. Even when Southwest Airlines starts to fly to Hawaii at lower fares, I'll still pay to fly Hawaiian for the experience. You can't beat it! read more

After taking care of my parents and aunt many years at the end of their lives...I checked into a hotel suite after they passed away. I was thinking I will be in Hawaii in a couple weeks max...It was three years because I would never quarantine and/or fly my dogs in cargo. I was so excited when I finally learned about Alaska airlines allowing one pet, in the passenger area. I asked what about my second dog? They said "You will not be happy" I asked what they were referring to, it was because I would have to buy an $800 ticket for my second dog. I'm so happy!!!! I told him I would hug them! As I have been trying everything from buying a boat to renting a private jet etc. for years. I had a house call vet prepare my dogs "home quarantine" While I waited in line to board the plane the female employees accuse me of trying to sneak one of my dogs on the plane. Ironic? By far the worst airlines with the worst customer service. I go in person to check in because their online option which they recommend to check in isn't working along with the website check in. I go up to the ticketing counter not busy but the agent decides to say he's able to help but then takes two phone calls helps out with two other customers and I'm still waiting at the desk with my Id given to him. Disregarding the situation I wait another 10 minutes just to say that there were changes made and my flight was yesterday but it is not true since the date was for today. I've had it with Hawaiian airlines they are a horrible company and horribly ran. Would never take them by chance ever but since they are monopolizing on the flights there really is no other option. Just waiting for Southwest Airlines to open up with cheaper options and friendly and helpful customer service. read more

Hilo Int'l is a very small airport. I usually fly the United airline, so I don't have a premium status with the Hawaiian Airline. I guess unless you live in Hawaii islands otherwise it's hard to be a frequent flyer on this. Good news on Hawaiian frequent flier is the bag check is only $15 for members and they will not charge you the luggage fee if you are shipping a case of pineapple to the mainland. I'm all the way in the end of the line for zone three at the gate six. The boarding is pretty quick and simple. All staffs are very friendly and smiling. I feel relaxed & welcomed. I like the fruit juice they serve in flight and the 2-3 seat configuration on the plane. Only 20% chance of getting a middle seat! Generous overhead space- it should be easy to get a spot for your suitcase. I saw some passengers carry on a straw round basket with socks and snacks. Lol. And everyone seem to know each other on the plane. A lot of Aloha everywhere. Definitely a very laid back local airline in the small airport. It's a quick 45 minutes flight from Hilo, Hi to Honolulu, Hi. So I just chilled, read my favorite book and drink the delicious compliment Lilikoi passion fruit juice. read more

I am disgusted with the way we were treated when trying to check in for our Hawaiian flight from Los Angeles to Kona last week. I was given the wrong information from the customer service department regarding the bringing of portable oxygen on board & the ticket agents were rude & condescending & unhelpful. Beware seniors if you are bringing oxygen with you on any of their flights. They offered no compensation for the mis information given to me by their customer service department. Our flights on and off this island have gotten harder through the years we have lived here. We started buying the extra-comfort seats several years ago and enjoyed them until they became so popular that they were no longer comfortable. My last flight was only a half-seat shared with a friendly, but obese, gentleman and there was nothing the crew could do for me as the plane was full (see attached picture). I felt that the airline could have offered a financial compensation, but because my seat-mate was such a nice person I didn't persue the issue. read more

Mahalo to Meda, the Hawaiian Airlines Baggage ClaimAttendant who found my luggage. I tagged my bag with another customers baggage tag that printed out at the check in kiosk. Of course, upon arrival to my destination, my bag was no where to be found. Meda called me to reassure me that she would send out a bulletin to her inter island colleagues to find my luggage. Within the next day, my luggage had been found and returned. Her genuine caring and quick response made the return of my luggage happen. When I arrived to meet her she said, "I really love finding people's luggage," and she smiled beautifully and with conviction. The only reason I fly this airline is because they have the monopoly from Hilo to Oahu and Vic versa. Horrible service no aloha, and sending a confirmation email and then not having a ticket for me. Got to the airport early to check-in. Looked up at the display schedule and it clearly stated "Delayed". While waiting with the family at TSA I walked over to the counter and wanted to get reassurance of when we should be at the gate. Ticket agent wasn't aware that the flight was delayed and had to check. It took two agents to explain what time we should be at the gate. She claimed no later than 6:30 pm but boarding was actually 5:30 pm. Low and behold we missed our flight and Hawaiian wasn't owning up to the misinformation. They charged us 73.50 (x3) and a change fee of $200.00. I'm just thankful that Southwest is starting to operate in Hilo tomorrow. I will never fly Hawaiian ever again and will recommend to everyone I know not to fly Hawaiian. It's obvious they don't value their customers. We're on a little plane to Maui. The seats are simple but covered in blue green leather with red violet stitching - two of my favorite colors. The seats have good legroom and the seat belts fit!!! No food service but considering how awful it usually is that is a good thing. We paid for our seats with our credit card points. read more

Don't bring a camp stove on the plane. They will force you to throw it out. Or they might send you on a wild-goose chase to a non-helpful freight company, 1 hour before your plane leaves. The fuel was completely drained. The stove does not have a self-lighting mechanism. They did not mention this rule when I bought the plane ticket, and they are the only airline that I've had this problem with. read more
