Delicious coffee! The farm manager is very knowledgeable about his product and organic growing methods.

I highly recommend this as one of the best chocolate tours!…read moreWe took the two hour tour with our family - it was a nice small group of six in total. Mike was not only an expert in all things chocolate, but he is easy to understand, he takes time to teach you and answer any questions and he has a great personality! It was pouring down rain the day we went, yet the tour was still a great success. We started out at the farm and then concluded down at the shop. You get to taste fresh cacao, nibs, cacao tea and kakao brew - of course at the shop are the full chocolate bars. Mike clearly loves what he does and enjoys sharing that love with his customers. The only down side is that after listening to Mike you will be ruined forever on eating any other general retail chocolate. So long Hershey and friends!

He built his cacao farm from the bottom up and it was amazing to witness his progress ever since 2017. He walked us through the seed germination process, the growing process, the fermentation process and everything before, in between and after that.. from seed all the way to chocolate bar. This tour is meant to expand your knowledge and change your perspective on how you think about, taste, and experience chocolate. At the end of the farm tour, you drive down to the gift shop (about a 3 min drive from the farm) to make any potential purchases as well as taste even more chocolate! What an amazing and unique experience in Honaka'a and 100% recommend adding this tour to your Big Island itinerary. P.S. my favorite chocolate bar is the barrel aged bourbon bar!! Notes of dark cherry with a bourbon finish :)

One most favorite part of our tour was having the chance to pet and hold the baby piglets, which were just born a few days before we arrived - such a rare precious experience that we will absolutely never forget! The drive up to the farm was also beautiful! The horse trails had magnificent views through the eucalyptus forest and of the ocean. We saw black bamboo, wild bamboo orchids and a lot of tree fruits growing. In the trail, there was fresh guava so we had a chance to sample them, which is great since they are not available in grocery stores. The tour also had fresh, wood-fire pizza for lunch - super yummy! The only thing I may have liked to see is a live demo of the chocolate tour rather than just a verbal explanation of how the process works - we are definitely more a visualist and would've liked a more hands on experience with how to make chocolate.

The barn was quite messy, dirty, (we understand it's a barn) but it was very different compared to other reviewers pictures. There were two men working in a 4 wheeler loudly while we all stood around and waited an hour for our guide. The actual horseback riding was pleasant and nice, it was quite rocky for the horses but beautiful. We had pizza after that was very good, however the tables we ate at were quite dirty, watching him prep with no gloves was also quite surprisingly and we weren't offered any drinks except for the bottle of water we had during the horse back ride. We were informed that they are selling the company and transferring owners so I imagine it has gone downhill BUT they should not be accepting new reservations in the mean time. Especially for the price, comparatively the price is more expensive due to the pizza and chocolate but it is not worth it. Until they fix their environment and seem more organized I would recommend going somewhere else. I reached out to the email twice and have yet to hear back...

My fiancée and I shared a salad that was more than enough for both of us, and you could genuinely taste how fresh every ingredient was. And the pizza? Freshly baked, crispy, flavorful, and honestly to die for. The whole place has such a laid-back Maui vibe that makes you want to slow down and enjoy every bite. It is definitely by far the best banana bread I have ever had in my entire life. husband is a major fan of banana desserts and he actually said the same thing ! The banana bread was melt in your mouth soft even when we had it later in the day. The chocolate chips were so well distributed and everything was so good. We had a hard time stopping and actually ended up finishing that whole loaf among the two of us. Regarding that pizza - I went to use the restroom while we made a stop here and the pizza smells so phenomenal! There was also quite a. Crowd and a lot of tables were occupied even on a Sunday afternoon. So clearly this place is good!

Thousands of acres throughout, the number of farms reaching far beyond the hundreds. Some are managed by large corporations while smaller crops are run by family-owned businesses. Like this one, located on the Big Island of Hawai'i. Āhualoa Family Farms. Where you won't find just one farm associated with this local small business, because their macadamia nuts and coffee are harvested in multiple locations on the Hāmākua Coast. Born and raised on the Big Island of Hawai'i, I'm familiar with how vast this area can encompass. A beautiful, scenic 40+ mile coastline stretch with high cliffs, it was the way to Waimea, Waikōloa and Kona while growing up. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I've garnered a high appreciation for Hawaiian macadamia nuts after my high school band fundraiser required us to harvest them by hand. It's a product I gravitate towards in our local grocery stores, a menu item I'll order if featured as an ingredient. I'll make a point to visit their vendor table at community events. That's how I found Āhualoa Family Farms. First in 2025 at the 32nd annual Hawai'i Arts, Crafts & Food Festival at Nani Mau Gardens. Then in 2026 at the same location during the Merrie Monarch Festival once again. Also at the 2026 official Merrie Monarch Invitational Hawaiian Arts & Craft Fair. Products visually presented lured me towards this vendor, the featured item had a stronger grasp on me. 100% Hawaiian macadamia nuts. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ "SEA SALT - Roasted Macadamia Nuts" An indulgent crunch, each nut with roasted richness. I found the flavor profile simple with a light dusting of fine sea salt. Enough to enhance without overshadowing the butteriness of each Hawaii-grown macadamia nut morsel. It was so divine, I actually returned two days later to purchase more. The freshness of the nuts harvested in small amounts, then roasted in macadamia nut oil makes all the difference in taste and texture. "COFFEE LIQUEUR - Roasted Macadamia Nuts" With eight options to choose from, this one caught my eye. Caramelized crunchy exterior with a buttery center. Their unique macadamia nut flavor and texture is ever so present, as coffee and chocolate notes come through in a subtle way. From Āhualoa Family Farms Hāmākua dark roast coffee, Kahlùa liqueur and natural sugar cane. Harmonious. It made a perfect dessert treat on many nights for me. "MAC BUTTER - Honey Macadamia Nut Spread" A quick stir after opening, the result, decadent and creamy, smooth with a slight thickness. Finely ground Hawaiian macadamia nuts are found in each bite when placed on crackers or toast. A must try like I did, a spoonful just solo. Delicate sweetness from honey brings forward toffee-like aftertones. Luxurious. "VINAIGRETTE - Lemon Macadamia Nut" Balanced, blended and emulsified. A sharp citrus tang, I appreciated the flavor equilibrium of all elements showcased. Versatile as a dressing or marinade, I've only enjoyed this creamy, nutty and bright vinaigrette on my salads. A gourmet upgrade from olive oil, an indulgent taste featuring macadamia nuts from their Hāmākua farms on the Big Island of Hawai'i. A unique stand-out vs supermarket bought dressings. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Their ability to roast macadamia nuts in small batches gives Āhualoa Family Farms an advantage over larger corporations in Hawai'i who mass produce their macadamia nut products. The flavor profile of each nut, every unique item sold is crafted with care and precision. It shows in their packaging, more so, in the taste and texture alone. There's no comparison, exceptional freshness and quality. Āhualoa Family Farms. Tempting items, deliciously crafted. I hope to find them at future community events as a vendor. A visit to their main showroom in Honoka'a is already on my list. Taste the difference, proudly serving 100% Hawaiian macadamia nuts and Hāmākua-grown coffee.
