20 Custom Cut Curtain Ties $5.00 (08/19/24). #HawaiianFabric #Kaimuki #Oahu #Hawaii #Fabric
Jeff B.

(Shopped 08/19/24 MO @ 12:30pm): Would this Hawaiian business have the fabric I was looking for!? In my quest to explore the various cuisine scenes as well as other businesses throughout O'ahu's Windward side (east shore of the island) after a recent acquisition of an investment/private-use property, the helpful Yelp app led me to Hawaiian Fabric as a potential place to find something to tie newly-installed curtains. Whenever the windows were open to allow for the cool tradewinds in, the curtains uncontrollably flapped and whipped around which eventually got annoying and distracting. Was I able to find a solution in this fabric shop filled with Hawaiian prints!? PURCHASE 20 Cut Strips Gray Fabric ($5.00): This was probably just a "toss-out" quote which was fine with me. This color of fabric nearly matched the gray in the curtains I would use them with, so this worked out perfectly! Nothing fancy, but they did the job! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=XTn3kR-4ZGFPqUIZlQTXkw SERVICE I was warmly greeted by a middle-aged gentleman who asked how he could help me. I asked if he had any ribbons or ties I could use or our window curtains. Although he said he didn't, he suggested cutting 24" strips of fabric similar to the sample I brought as reference, which was an ingenious idea! He quickly cut twenty strips, I paid and left with a sense of accomplishment - mahalo! PARKING (FREE) It appeared they shared a very tiny parking lot with a couple of businesses, so I found plenty of street parking along the main residential road Martha St. while the cross street on Campbell Ave. was another good option - 'nuff said! ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A simple small shop https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=9XO1eXST2TGN1oyYA2AtDQ covered top to bottom with well-organized rolls of color fabrics mainly of Hawaiian prints but truthfully anything with a tropical feel. A sample or two of quilts and quilt kits https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=y4dOJFgBFwGtlqnFzDLXhw were on display. There was a lone workstation where the gentleman did work. A decent amount of natural lighting came in through the front door and windows while electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. There were no TVs nor any background music. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=5huLIDQAeiCp69iBST5k5w ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I honestly didn't have much expectations of Hawaiian Fabric because I went in flying blind to what I was specifically searching for. Having said that, my experience was a positive one because I found a solution https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=9xzzq3IColNdI13QB5Pjpg at a low expense. I didn't quilt, sew, and my needle pulling thread skills were non-existent. However, if these activities and hobbies were up your alley, by all means check this place out! Maybe you could sew me a killer aloha shirt! And, it was always a pleasure to support small local mom & pop businesses like this one. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience [except for what was used to open the respective accounts] was around $5.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, although I used a different card, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

I visited this store while on vacation and ended up with a few fabrics for future quilt projects. Don't let the size of this store fool you, the selection of fabrics is great, with 100% cotton and cotton & rayon/polyester blends available. You can also find charm packs/bundles, quilt patterns, and fat quarters. Prices are labeled on the shelves and are reasonably priced. The owner is nice and was helpful. They do ship nationally if you are interested. I kept my purchase small, but I will be ordering more in the future.

My finds!

The best little fabric store for Hawaiian prints at reasonable prices. Dave is the owner and so sweet. 100% cotton and cotton blends. If you like to see, you have to come! It's hard to find. There are two parking spaces in front. Support local!!!

Skott H.

Wonderful collection of fabrics at a reasonable price for both clothing and home goods. Incredibly organized assortment with many Hawaiian and Japanese themed fabrics. The staff is very friendly and we ended up buying more than what we originally intended. Bottom Line: Would recommend to others and we will be back next time for more!

A totally great find!

How is it that this place is not over crowded with customers? Best find ever! Great Hawaiian designs, large selections, super LOW prices, quick and uberly friendly service. I was close to having just a carry on of fabric for my flight back, until I found out that they ship! If you like to sew, do any fabric crafts, or just simply hoard fabric, you must come here!

Adorable drawing on my package!!

This review is for an online order only. I was looking to make more masks and wanted to find some Hawaiian fabric. My friend recommended them so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the selection and prices. I was able to order several yards and received my order within two weeks. (There was a slight delay with my order as they had it marked it as in store pickup but David was quick to resolve the mix up.) I opened my package today and found this beautiful drawing on the inner envelope. Love it!!! Thank you for the beautiful fabric and great customer service. Can't wait to visit next time I'm in Hawaii!

Small store packed with great fabrics. Friendly service. Looked like a good bit of shipping. Good to know since we aren't local.

Work in progress with fabric from Hawaiian Fabrics, Honolulu.

After doing my research on all of the fabric stores in the Honolulu area that I could find on Yelp, I chose Hawaiian fabrics in the Kapahulu neighborhood, somewhere near the Rainbow Drive-In. It's a very small warehouse-style location. But it's filled with a lot a lot of beautiful and quality Hawaiian-style cottons. It's run by the owner, Dave, and he's extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. Encouraging you to order by mail if you're visiting from the mainland. But being there is certainly worth the visit. Prices are very reasonable. I bought a few things to use in my slow stitching project while I was visiting and loved having the feel of the quality fabric in my hands. Slow stitching doesn't require larges quantities of fabric. It's small "handwork," but Dave was just as happy cutting me 1/3 yd lengths (of which I bought a few) than if I was buying 20 yards. Very obliging and amenable. He also explained that all the fabric stores on the island cooperate with each other in that each sort of specializes in one type of Hawaiian fabric. One in Asian themes, one in children's themes, etc. So they are happy to recommend one to the other. That's great! Quilters will love it this place. Sew-people will love it for shirt motifs. Definitely shop here.

Seahawk blanket!

I have been a loyal customer of Hawaiian Fabric for a few years now! They carry a large selection and variety of fabrics and notions and their customer service is outstanding! I live in Washington state and there is nowhere to buy Hawaiian and Asian print fabrics like those available at Hawaiian Fabric (HF). I have checked out other online fabric stores in Hawaii and I haven't found any that can compare to HF. Not only in selection but the prices and shipping are very reasonable, and they ship FAST! I highly recommend shopping here for your Hawaiian/Asian fabric needs! Many Mahalos to David for his personal attention and caring!

Redoing my cushions for my vintage koa set. Dave was knowledgeable, helpful and patient while I took my time selecting material. Nice selection of upholstery fabric for Hawaiian style furniture. He also has a website.

David gave me 10% discount for finding him on Yelp which was a bonus, since fabric was already reasonably priced.

Born and raised in Honolulu and now living in the bay, I want to create diaper cakes using Hawaiian print materials to give them an aloha vibe. I created a list of fabric stores to visit, but ended up just checking this place out since it was in Kalihi, not far from where my mom lives, and I didn't feel like being in the crazy Oahu traffic to get to the other shops. Located in a warehouse off N. King Street in Kalihi, it wasn't very hard to find, and parking can be limited in front of the warehouse or street parking. When my mom and I walked in, we were amazed at the vast amount of material this place carries. A lot of Hawaiian print, Palaka, Japanese, Tahitian, and those cute Kawaii patterns (see my pics) to name a few. We received great customer service considering how busy they were. Daniel was pleasant and very helpful. Prices were reasonable, the prints I got were from $5/yd. They mainly carry rolls of material, some ribbon, and a few sewing accessories at the checkout counter. Daniel recommended I check out their Instagram for any new print drops, and they ship! Off 1 star for organization. There are some beautiful prints hiding under several rolls of fabric.

Ok so this may seem a bit unfair because there isn't another store that sells this much fabric,…read morebut, I'm rating this visit based on my daughter's happiness. First things first, this store is located in the VERY BACK of Pearlridge industrial warehouses. If you know where the dealership & GOODWILL in Pearl city is... THEN YOU'LL FIND IT! Because it's IN THE BACK THERE! You CANT MISS IT! It's next to where the old JELLY'S was. There is a lot of open parking. Restrooms, I'm not sure where or if they have one in that area opened to the public. Prices range anywhere from $2.00 to as high as $50.00 PER YARD. Depends on what type you want or looking for and if you want it by the yards or remnants. I don't know what else to say about this place other than ITS A MUST WHEN NEEDING FABRIC! But... as mentioned earlier... this post is gonna be based off my daughter's experience and outcome. I must say... they DID NOT disappoint! She had a sewing project done for school and IM SUPER PROUD OF HOW WELL SHE DID! Both her dad and I! So as you all know... they have PRETTY MUCH EVERY TYPE, COLOR, STYLE, THEME OR PATTERN OF MATERIALS, right!? So I expected her to take forever on choosing a material. But she found it in half hour and the rest was DUCK SOUP! They also had the very same color thread that matched perfectly with her fabric she chose. So that was AWESOME! AND it was the style she needed too! I didn't realize the threads were all different! Lol! ANYWHO... the teacher told them to get about 1-1/2 yards of fabric & DID state they shouldn't buy anything more than $3.00. But of course my husband had to give his princess whatever she wanted. Which wasn't much. We got her a little extra on the fabric just incase she needed it. But her final product was so BEAUTIFUL... I wish our small sewing machine worked. She wanted to make more for Christmas and pass them out or sell them at the Christmas fair. But it's ok. We'll manage. However, take a look at her project. (SEE PHOTOS) She chose a light sun yellow color fabric with local Hawaii pictures on them. The reason why she chose that specific fabric was because she wanted the HAWAIIAN FLAG that was in there. There were other nice colored fabrics with different designs too! But that was her reason for this one! If you do shop here and you don't know exactly what you're looking for, expect to stay for more than an hour. It's so HARDZ TO CHOOSE!!! If it could, I would live in here and make everything and anything! LOL!!! But they didn't have a few things on the list BUT luckily, we had it at home. I made her a ziplock bag with everything labeled and placed well in the bag. I also told her to make sure she keeps it that way so she's organized and she doesn't lose anything. She did exactly what was told and she was the 2nd or 3rd student to finish her project. This was out of ALL PERIODS too! Her teacher was amazed with her work! She asked if she could do another, but because their quarter was ending. The teacher told them no, because they're putting the machine back into storage til next years class. But I'm proud of her for making her drawstring pouch and her total bag. And it's ALL THANKS TO FABRIC MART! Okie dokes thank you for looking and have a good one guys! A hui hou MALAMA PONO ALOHA!

Carol explained the sign above that shows the name of the shop closest to each shop - depending on which way you face the sign. Ahhh... Calico Cat was described by their neighbor (Every Day Better by Green Meadows) as having fabric "eye candy". LOL!
