Today I looked at the products and inquired regarding the Kukui ingredient in a hand lotion. Initially the clerk provided no information, did not know anything. After prompting her she relayed some information. That was red flag #1. My payment cancelled , unknown why.... She asked me twice if I had a cash card or something that required a PIN number. Her tone was insulting. The transaction went through on the 3rd attempt. Today is extremely windy and that may have had an impact on the transaction. The behavior I encountered is indicative of an insecure individual who clearly pre judges. I believed you the first time when you reflect who you are.... I encourage others to bypass this business. The south shore market across the street from TJ Maxx (1170 Auahi St) has local stores with great selections. Also has a large free parking structure. read more

They carry a limited number of prints, but the same print will be used for men's shirts, women's dresses and infant clothes. So a young family can get matching Hawaiian attire in these beautiful fabrics. They carry a broad range of Hawaiian upscale artisan merchandise. They had a limited selection of Aloha bags in the most recent patterns. Vintage style Hawaiian prints, locally crafted jewelry and a limited amount of home decor are among the shop's offering. The clerks were friendly without being overbearing. Prices were are a premium, but worth it to get genuine Hawaiian products. The shop is located in Chinatown. Didn't purchase anything, but I loved the service and ambiance! You have to be buzzed in to the store, but the workers are very attentive and are always watching the door for when someone wants to come in, and to leave. The blue breeze orchid shirt that I ordered online just arrived today and I have to say wow gorgeous!! Love the shirt, and the modern slim fit is great. I was looking for a slim fit aloha shirt and now I have found Roberta Oaks!! I don't want to disparage other brands so I won't name them but I find most aloha shirts just too loose and baggy. Been a loyal costumer for a decade. No other aloha shirt brand looks good on my husband. He only wants to wear Roberta Oaks. Other brands are big and boxy but the tailored fit on the ROs is the only way to go! I also have my cat (Mr. Whiskers) and ferret (Officer Butters) wearing her adorable pet scarfs now. It's a nice little store downtown. Parking is not the greatest. Their products are of high quality and they have some very nice men's aloha shirts, but it'll cost you. I bought a fragrance oil. Took it back the next day and a lot of their products are nonrefundable/returnable. I didn't even open it, I just wanted to exchange it for a different scent. They would not let me. I could understand if I wanted a refund, but I just wanted to switch products. Most of their non clothing products are final sale, and I feel that the employees should let you know at the register, instead of finding out when it's too late. I was looking for an authentic new Aloha shirt for myself, and I bought three shirts at this store over the past 18 months. The shirts are made in women's or mens sizing, but they sell out of sizes quickly and often times I cannot find the size I need since their clothing runs small. Make sure you try on the shirts because they have a final sale type return policy. I really wish I could return items for store credit, as I would probably buy more things, but alas, here we are with their return policy. I like the fabric of their shirts, and it does well with the dry cleaners. Lastly, parking is a bit of a challenge as the closest parking lot is paid (and expensive), and the closest metered parking are usually taken. read more

They had clothes, lotions, hats jewelry, a blow up swan for your pool, and some really cute retro looking art work. Some things were a little on the pricey side but still affordable. I was very excited to visit the new Roberta Oaks location. We ended up spending about $400.00. We walked out happy that we were able to support a local company (after many months of only buying things online). Due to the pandemic, we did not feel comfortable trying on clothes in the boutique but we purchased a matching set for my boyfriend, myself, and our dog along with gifts for friends. The next day, my boyfriend tried on his shirt and it was unfortunately too small. Disappointed that he will not be able to wear the shirt, we called the store to see if we could exchange for a bigger size (all tags were attached, we just tried it on). We were told that their policy is NO EXCHANGES which was surprising because this was not made clear to us at the time of purchase. We were shocked and explained that we were not informed. We were then told that it is written on the receipt. Firstly, when we purchased the items, the associate asked if we would like a receipt to which we replied "No". Secondly, if a receipt is provided that explains your policy, the customer would only be able to read it AFTER the purchase is executed. During a time when the world is gripped in a pandemic, your stance on exchanges, not refunds mind you, but exchanges is extremely callous. I was very much looking forward to matching with my family, but now looking at the print makes me so sad and reminds me of the hundreds of dollars we wasted. It is so disheartening that a company that prides and markets itself for local people, especially those that go out of their way to support them in trying times, in the end, only focuses on money, not making their customers happy. read more

A tiny shop that packs a wicked fashion punch! I love the classic feel of Roberta Oaks' dresses and you will too if you love bright colors, ginham checks, plaids, seersucker fabrics, bows, and tailored bodices! I got a beautifully tailored knee length dress with a sweetheart neckline in red seersucker with a bright orange bow in the back. Too cute! (See my picture posted on the business page!) The dresses here make you feel cute and classic like you stepped out of the past. There's something that makes you feel so cute when you're in a girly bright dress! My grandmother was a seemstress in the 70s and she made great dresses in similar styles. Maybe that's why I'm so drawn to these! They also carry men's aloha shirts in vintagy prints which I love! They do run "slim" though, so they won't fit your beer gut if you have one! :) read more

I will not purchase any more clothing from this store, and I do not recommend it to others. I've purchased nine shirts from this store. Unfortunately a recent shirt was mislabeled the wrong size or shrunk to the point of being unwearable after a cold, delicate wash and hang dry. Despite me being a repeat customer who has purchased nine shirts, the owner of the store would not correct the issue. The owner states that washing the shirt caused the incredible shrinking. Customers need to be able to wash their shirts without them shrinking down significantly. I've made my last purchase here due to the lack of customer service and inability for me to trust the quality of the merchandise. Beware because the owner has a policy of not helping customers with a shirt that has shrunk to being unwearable due to a wash. read more

She has some of the best selection of Hourglass Lilly dresses and it is a pretty good deal if the dresses make it to the sale rack. If you are visiting Hawai'i and want something unique from the islands, I recommend an aloha shirt for men and an accessory from a local jewelry designer for women. Hi Roberta, This is in response to a reply you left. I would normally not respond to a reply like this and brush it off, however, I am honestly very surprised by your response as the business owner. The first thing you did was blame the customer! I am sorry you feel that the reason for the poor review was because of decisions WE made. I wanted to reiterate again that it was due to the lack of communication of your policies that we were not made aware of prior to purchase. We also tried to contact your store multiple times to make this right prior to leaving this review. Leaving a review was not our first or even second resort to try to reconcile this. Secondly, although I am sure that you would have encouraged us to try things on or explicitly told us about the policy, you did not help us. You were not in the boutique. How can you blame us for our actions that day what happened that day and know what the associate did or did not do if you were not there? I also work in retail sales, so I am very familiar with this business and how challenging it can be during this time. I would hope you understand that some people do not feel comfortable trying on clothes during a pandemic not feel the need to blame the customer feeling this way as the reason for the misunderstanding. Everyone's comfort level is different which I hope you would respect for personal reasons. If you do have an extremely strict policy, it would behoove you to perhaps get the customers initials next to the policy to make sure they saw it before purchasing. Also, you mentioned that you do not want to accept exchanges for "the same reason I did not want to try clothes on in the store". Trying on clothes in the dressing rooms exposes your items to anything that person has touched prior to coming in or any items they bring in with them. Returning items due to not sellable condition is one thing, however this shirt was just taken out of the tissue paper, tried on once (not even buttoned up). I assume you have products to disinfect clothes after the customer tries them on? All of that aside, I am mostly shocked at how you treat a first-time customer who simply misjudged your sizing. If you had just offered to exchange the shirt for a size that fit, we would have returned repeatedly to purchase from you knowing what size we needed. As a small business I would hope you would understand how valuable this is. It is silly to think back on it now but the reason I ended up in your store in the first place was that I had a co-worker who wore a shirt to work and I liked the design. He purchased it from you a couple weeks before we did. He was a first-time customer like us, and upon receiving the shirt, it was too small. He was also unaware of the return policy but somehow was able to contact the store and exchange for a bigger size. He was not blamed for his actions. I am not sure why he got a special treatment, but it is obviously not extended to everyone. I really wish this worked out as your designs are very nice, I would have loved to be your longtime customer, but now I know the person behind the brand. I wish you all the best. read more

I had an amazing experience here! The minute I walk in, I got a friendly greeting by Roberta herself as if we've been long time friends. I was on a mission to find the perfect cocktail dress for a wedding. Of course I fell in love with all the different styles and color combinations - vintage meets funky modern with a girly-twist! It was not long before I couldn't decide on just one. A midst my dilemma, Roberta, who was providing her stylistic feedback this whole time, surprisingly pulled out a dress from the rack that she thought might look good on me. and YES, of course, she was right. Almost wasn't able to visit the shop because Roberta was grabbing some lunch, but LUCKILY as we were walking away from peeking through the windows she hollered at My Sister and I about coming in. So we did...and boy I'm happy I did. I liked her modern take on the classic Aloha shirt. The surprisingly fun prints and patterns really caught my eye. I liked the slim fit on the shirts too. I saw an "uncle" wearing one at my uncle Buffalo Keaulana's 80th birthday party, and asked where he got it from because I absolutely had to have it. I ended up finding this beautiful shop and purchasing that exact shirt. I, in turn wore it to a wedding in San Francisco and had a couple approach me the same way I did at my uncle's party! I have recently returned for more shirts for a couple of upcoming events out of state and I am pleased to say I found more of what I love about this place. Yelp Challenge #20/100 The absolute cutest boutique known for their handcrafted clothing right here at home. Their Aloha shirts are definitely a piece you want to see in your closet for both men and women. If you're lucky you might even find matching shirts for you and your hubby :) The cost of supporting local does have its price and a lot of the pieces here are a bit on the high end for my taste, however, I constantly find myself strolling in every time I've been in Chinatown since discovery in hopes of falling in LOVE with that one Aloha shirt I cannot live without. A locally owned small business by the cutest, sweetest owner Roberta Oaks. While her clothes are pricey, they are made and designed 100% by her. We stepped into the shop late on First Friday. She helped my friend pick out a nice collared shirt. The jewlery was really cute as well. I loved the vibe in the store and she was very friendly and welcoming. Are the clothes expensive? Yeah. Service here is very friendly & informative. I love window-shopping on Tuesdays and Fridays before going to wine tasting at HASR next door. I bought my boyfriend an aloha shirt here for Christmas and got a gift receipt. Although the shirt fit, he did not love the colors I picked out (too pink), so we came back together and he was able to exchange it for a different style. In the end, he was extremely happy with the shirt/style he got, and was able to wear it to our holiday parties. I love that they can be both business casual and classy! She also sews her products locally, and yes she is not from Hawai'i but she supporting the local economy investing locally. There is a dress for everyone in this store and every body type. Her fun prints are exciting and eye catching. Some people complain about her price point but honestly if you don't know your fabrics and anything about Hawaii you may complain. Her fabrics used are expensive and she gets her things sewn in Hawai'i and labor and rent in Hawai'i is not cheap. She always has a smile on her face. One example of how amazing shopping there is that she had a website sale that was better then the in-store sale and she gave me the website price. Me in anything floral print, aloha shirt or not, was not something anyone would ever expect. But, the nice girl at Roberta Oaks found one that fit my style. They had some pretty cool polka dot shirts as well. I am an athletic guy. Finding shirts that are not baggy at the stomach was an added bonus! This is however almost strictly a shirt store for men's clothes. They did have some shorts and one pair of pants, but that isn't their thing. I just spent 4 months in the tropics.
