My wife and I stopped by Hawaiian Island Snowballs hoping for a sweet little treat to beat the heat. What we got instead was a dessert disaster straight out of a Jimmy Buffett fever dream. My wife ordered ice cream that tasted like it had been cryogenically frozen since the Reagan administration. You ever had ice cream so freezer burnt it crunches? Yeah, it was like that. I figured I'd play it safe and go with a cotton candy snow cone. Big mistake. I don't know what kind of cotton candy they've been sniffing in Hawaii, but mine tasted like a urinal cake in a gas station bathroom--sweet, chemical-y, and weirdly minty in the worst possible way. To top it off, the woman behind the counter grabbed the ice cream bare-handed. No gloves. Just out here raw-dogging the frozen dairy like hygiene isn't a thing. Maybe that explains the "flavor." If you're in the mood for a science experiment gone wrong or want to know what disappointment tastes like, this is your place. Otherwise, steer clear. read more

I don't usually leave reviews, but I left this ice cream shop feeling really upset. Watching one of the employees speak so harshly and disrespectfully to their coworker right in front of customers was honestly heartbreaking. The way she was being treated with such attitude and lack of kindness was hard to ignore. No one deserves to be belittled like that, especially not at work. It completely changed the vibe of the place. I'm giving this business 1 star, but if I could give 5 stars to the blonde headed girl working there, I absolutely would. She was kind, respectful, and clearly doing her best even while being treated poorly by a coworker right in front of everyone. What should've been a fun, sweet moment turned into something really uncomfortable. I hope management takes this seriously, because how you treat your team matters just as much as the product you serve. read more

Great location in Duck and stopped in for cool treats and water during our hike. The store did a good job with social distancing though a small space. I enjoyed looking over the numerous sno-ball flavors, so slightly disappointed that a few of my selections were out. Understandable since it is near the end of the busy season. Awful terrifying experience. Me and two friends (13 YEAR OLDS) walked and could already tell it was sketchy and not clean. He made a bold entrance with saying "GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS" in a inappropriate tone as well as racial and violent comments and then continued with more inappropriate comments (little girl, ms fudge (i'm black) , ms small). also, the food tasted very musty as well, as did not look very clean. also, he got our orders wrong, but we just wanted to get out of there. I also spent 11 dollars on dirty fudge that was dusty out of FEAR, cus i didn't know what would happen if he said no. also as packed up my plastic knife he told me to kill my friend and my self. he asked if my friend was crazy and uses profanity in that sentence. read more

The chocolate chips were actually chocolate chunks, which was cool in my opinion. They carry a wide variety of Edy's ice cream. I'd recommend the double fudge brownie and Pb cup flavors. We walked in and there was one woman working waiting on a father and young son. She seemed very annoyed and ready for the season to end. Our turn, we ordered the snow ball, many flavor selections, however when we asked a question she just pointed to the sign. She threw a block of ice in the antique ice shaver and asked if we wanted anything else. I ordered a small soft ice cream, she asked what cone or dish, I said cone, then it was "which one?" And pointed to the different cones....I picked and got the soft served but it was more like frozen yogurt. Nice Ice cream shop in the heart of town. Had an interesting greeting from the man working that night since six of us arrived right after a large family. He may have gotten flustered (and we also thought it was closing time) but he didn't give us the "Hi How are you.. what would you like" greeting it was more, "Let's get this show on the road... " in only a grumpy old man sort of voice. I stepped up to the plate with my go-to Mint Chocolate chip ice cream order... and he seemed to mellow out a bit. I got a waffle cone but along with it was a plastic cone over with a little lip (kinda like what you would see with candles you hold at church or during vigils). I didn't figure out what it was for until about 4minutes later when I was outside and the ice cream was streaming from the cone down the sides and caught on the lip before hitting your hands.... nice feature. Other than the in-your-face service... it was a good place to go. We found out later that we had called the wrong place (that was closing at 9:30) and we got there at 9:15. This place closed at 11pm. Friendly place to grab an ice cream, snowball, coffee or espresso. It's right off Duck road and accessible from the boardwalk. I always forget about this place because it has a little of everything. Maybe it's a bit of a "Jack of all trades, master of none" type of business, but we have never been dissappointed. The ice cream is good quality and the service is friendly. Nice stop. Established in 1989, Hawaiian Island snoballs has been around for awhile and it shows: the snoballs, ice cream, and fudge are scrumptious! Choose from over 65 snoball flavors and an assortment of ice cream varieties. The unique assortment of fudge is locally made. I've saved the best for last: the coffee! The owners must be from Hawaii because the beans are excellent! Rich, nutty; a true kona. Every cup is fresh and delicious. The shop is very small - so more than two families and you're packed in. However, it's connected to a boardwalk with a few other shops, so you can enjoy your snoballs outside in the sun or under the shade of the walkway. Great stop - thumbs up! read more

Yeah...No. I cannot recommend this parlor of...well, ice cream and other, uh, stuff. I went in for a latte, which was made in an automatic machine. Not good. Not tasty. Not drinkable. I had to dump it. Not a fun way to spend 20 minutes (it was kind of a wait) and three bucks. In the meantime, I had to withstand a guy noticing I was red and fend off his attempts at clever comments. (I have conditions that make me red, none of which was his business.) The store is dirty, cluttered, disorganized, and flocked with teens asking for samples and explanations of every possible treat he sells. Water ice (root beer) was so bad we dumped it in the first 5 minutes. Shop was dark and not pleasant. Older man stared us down until we gave a tip. Smoothie was mediocre at best. I tried to buy some of the espresso beans covered in chocolate, so I went to the counter to be checked out and the man completely ignored me. I put the cash on the counter and after three minutes of him standing there, not checking me out I just put them back and left.
