For the money, I don't think I would buy it more often but they make a quality product in my opinion. Recently came off the beach to grab a quick, cold treat. We want to go to Island Smoothie but they closed early for Independence Day, so we ventured to The Fudgery and got a frozen lemonade, which my daughter advised was very good. One downside is, most of the liquid gets consumed and then you are stuck with ice, much like a slurpee. I got the Wild Raspberry Smoothie and although the container advised it was all natural, it certainly tasted artificial. I wouldnt order it again, but it was a nice cold treat. The price is always high here but it is a tourist trap. Island Smoothie is probably as costly but much fresher if you are interested in that more nutritious option. read more

This was the closest ice cream spot to our rental beach house, and several kids in our party had already worn a trail here over the week. We all finally made a visit on our last night in Duck, as sort of a final, sweet send-off. The interior is basically a large, open kitchen with a counter in front, so you can watch them make fudge. They also offer a few other goodies on the side, including Edy's ice cream. Unfortunately they only had about 6 flavors, and my beloved chocolate chip was not among them. I ordered a chocolate-vanilla swirl instead, and it was dense, very rich and tasty, though I've been spoiled by better (double rainbow, for instance). The server was nice and offered to let us try some fudge for free. I tried the dark chocolate with nuts - also quite delectable, but I'm not a big fudge fan and opted not to buy any. Fudge here is not good. Last year I bought a bunch and it was all stale. This year I went in and tried a little first- still stale. I bought my daughter a pretzel rod dipped in chocolate with sprinkles- they were fresh dipping them. But they would not sell us those- they gave us a prepackaged one. I was casually enjoying my amaretto cherry ice cream, and I look down to take another bite and there was a frozen chunky fly in my ice cream. I could see it's legs sprawled out on the tip of my spoon. When I saw the bug I was immediately disgusted and pushed away my bowl. We alerted the staff, yet all they did was offer me another scoop. Great spot for ice cream. Lots of flavors of Blue Bell ice cream, and tons of other options (dipped apples, Rice Krispie treats, and pretzels, huge pieces of fudge, milkshakes, etc.). Spot was great, covered parking kept the car cool and tons of other shops to window shop while you ate. Only drawback (and reason for 4 rather than 5 stars): Blue Bell Ice Cream I can get at the grocery instead of homemade. That said, best ice cream stop we've had all trip in the OBX! read more

Awful ice cream. Got the cookie dough ice cream in a waffle cone and my friend got the fudge nut brownie and toffee crunch in a cup. The waffle cone was paper thin and seemed undercooked and the ice cream in general was not creamy at all. It almost tasted like low fat/sugar-free. There were ice crystals too, so maybe it was old. I had to throw it out after eating half. Can't speak for the fudge so I really hope this place lives up to its namesake. read more

The fudge is great, and they have a wonderful selection of ice cream (Blue Bell is a quality brand, too), although I've never tried the ice cream. My only issue is the salespeople are a little overbearing. This has been my experience on multiple visits over the years. I understand they are encouraged to upsale, but after you decline buying more to receive a freebie (or whatever deal they're pushing), they should leave it at that. I do love the bags they use...they have a Ziploc-like seal on top so you can keep your fudge fresh. read more

Went in today for a vanilla shake. All of the ice cream looked stirred, but we ordered a vanilla shake anyway. Took one sip and gagged. It was sour and completely liquid. Worker was very polite and apologized and I suggested she check the milk. She said the milk was fresh, so upon looking back at the ice creams in their tubs, they all appeared to have melted and been stirred to freshen up the tubs. Yuck! read more

I stopped at the Duck store in Scarborough Faire last night. There is a "design your own candy apple" station. I asked for a caramel coating, pecans and white and choc drizzle based on directions and choices on very big posters. Was told that it could not be done bc the pre made ones had to be sold.
