Driving around Manteo and OBX we decided to search for some ice cream. We stopped in the Olde Towne Creamery and felt right at home. The hot dogs filled the spot in our bellies and at a great price. We sat with the owners and talked about the great areas to visit and all the sites. The ice cream was next and it was magical. The cookie dough was creamy and the perfect texture. My wife had the mango ice and loved it. A nice quaint little shop with seats to enjoy their fares. We sat for a spell enjoying their company and talking about the island and its many activities. The next day we enjoyed our visit so we went back. We arrived early and we were offered a great breakfast of French toast and blueberries. Later returning for more delicious ice cream. Again we had a wonderful visit with the owner and his wife. Both delightful people who made us feel like family. We promised to return again and try the pizza. They assured us it would be worth the 4 day drive. Can't say enough about the Old Towne Creamery. Super stuff and great service. read more

Olde Towne Creamery has been around for five years now. Though locally owned, I'd never been until finally stopping in this evening right before it closed at 6pm. It's right off the Main Highway in Manteo on the corner of Ananias Dare in a building that also hosts Coastal Realty. The actual Creamery is really small. You walk in to a room with a few tables. To the left is a long narrow room where the line is to place your food order. While in line, you can look at the real estate listings around the island. The counter is basically the ice cream selection. The narrow room makes it hard to see the ice cream selection, but they do have quite a variety of creative choices. Most places have some kind of Heavenly Hash or Rocky Road. This one did not. However, it had one of my other faves -- a Minty Mint Chocolate Chip. We immediately took it outside since it was a bright sunshiny afternoon/evening. Most buildings line the greenery and plants along a building with mulch. Oddly enough, they line theirs with broken glass. It's an interesting sight to see. Definitely very colorful and a creative way to keep people off the plants. We enjoyed eating our ice cream at a bench in the yard with lots of green grass at our feet. read more

Located in the heart of Manteo this quaint shop offers BBQ, all beef Brooklyn style hotdogs, and burgers. If you have room after that enjoy hand dipped Hershey's ice cream or shakes.
