We had our photo session last october 26th, we had a lot of fun! our photographer JUSTIN did an excellent job, he arrived there about an hour prior to the shoot, and was patient enough to wait for us as we search for the exact location. we brought several props we can use, we were happy how he has alot of ideas, on what areas at Waimanalo bay state recreation area we can use to make it look we were at different places. Seemed we might not need our props anyway, but when we asked him if we still can, he used them artistically. It really shows how he loves and enjoys his job, we never felt hurried, or directed in a negative way, we literally had fun:) Pictures turned out GREAT! We bought a groupon from here almost a year ago for a couples engagement photo session. We had never taken professional pictures together and I had only taken them once before when I was graduating high school. We just wanted a nice shot of us on the beach so I could use them for our save the date cards. Well... we drove all the way up to the N. Shore. It was very hot and the sun was setting. Jerry kept putting us directly facing the setting sun for the first 30 minutes or so of the shoot even though our eyes were watering from trying to hold them open while looking into the sun. I kept thinking to myself "this cannot be right.. can it?" Then we were put in the most awkward and unnatural poses. It should have been obvious to anyone that we felt unconfortable and looked stiff, but Jerry just kept snapping away and directing us into more poses that we couldn't even understand how to get into. We finally got our online gallery put up and I literally waited until the expiration of our date to choose the print that came with our groupon, b/c we hated all the pictures and couldn't decide which to get. Our eyes were squinted almost shut in about 30-40% of the pictures, and in about 40% more my hair was in one or both of our faces, or flying around in the breeze. The rest we just looked very unnatural and posed in and didn't even look like ourselves. I finally decided I wouldn't be using them for save the dates anyways b/c they weren't good enough, and just picked the one with the best scenery for the prints. Then I went online to place the order, and my gallery was gone, I called and emailed and got a response from the secretary who said it would be back up the next day. Went back on and it wasn't, emailed again and was told it would be fixed right away. Next day, still no access to the gallery. Finally after about 4 or 5 emails and 3 or 4 phone calls I was able to place the order for the prints I didn't really want. They are still sitting in the envelope they were mailed in, tucked away in my desk drawer. What a waste of $75, not to mention that anxiety we now feel about having more pictures taken at our wedding. Luckily our wedding photographer, who is NOT hawaiianpix!! (obviously), has agreed to take a free engagement session of us to help us feel comfortable and to make up for the mistake with Hawaiianpix. Sorry I hate to be negative, but it just was not at all what we were looking for and felt very awkward and staged. Maybe we prefer a different and more journalistic, natural style of photography. Or maybe we just don't want squinty eyes and fly away hair in all our pics.... read more

I just had a really unpleasant experience with them today. That single incident was so disapointing since all other people I've talked to were all helpfull and friendly. But all in all this company is not my recommendation. Even I've referred someone I knew already but I woudn't anymore. I have to mention my photographer was really experienced and great though. I would rather negotiate with him straight next time if I need another photo session. I bought a couple photo package from Groupon (I think it was $70) which usually costs $99 for 1 hour session for 2 and it comes with ONLY 1 picture printed in 3 different sizes. And NO DESITAL PICTURES INCLUDED. When my pictures were ready to view my photographer sent me a long email explaining how to purchase them online. This procedure is really complicated. I guess that's why he attached the detail...they must get so many questions regulary. When it's ready to view online they give you the password but even you log in the website realy doesn't tell exactly what you need to do. If you don't like to get help from them you need to read through the email and get back to the website one by one...such a pain. I didn't get it at all so I called them today. The guy answered my call was patient enough to guide me through and I purchased all of my digital pictures on the phone. Guess how much it would be? To deal with them you require to use your commom scense otherwise you would get messed up. later I got an email receipt amd I was so shocked!!!! Before the purchase I asked him how much it would be and he said, "10 for 2.99." I asked him, "10 digital pictures for 2.99?" and that was correct. How about more pics? "25 for 3.99" What if I wanted them all? "All of them would be 5.20". Oh ok then I'd like them all. BUT actually it was 10 for $299.00, 25 for $399.00 and I got charged $520 for JUST 70 DIGITAL PICTURES!!! (And those won't come with any disc but you have to download yourself.) I was so shocked and speechless but I forced myself to call him back for refund. The same guy answered and he said something like How can you get those for 5 dollers?? And I could tell he was tellilng me Are You Crazy?! I do understand for 5 dollers not much we can get but I'm not professional and the professional told me "10 for 2.99" He never said "10 for TWO HUNDRED AND 99 DOLLERS". Then I would believe what he says because I have no idea what those DIGITAL PICTURES would cost like. For me I technically paid for it already and would never think I had to pay over $500 just to download the pictures online only. Last time I had photo session with another professional photographer pictures came in a CD so I could easily print or share whatever I needed to but it was just little over $100 I think. I told him you, professional told me 2.99 and I'm not a pro so I would assume it's $2.99. He MUST HAVE miss heard and got so upset and repeated, "Excuse me?? Excuse me??" I guess he thought I said he's not pro. Excuse me, but you are a pro so you were supposed to tell me the price clearly so that even a girl from Japan who has no idea about photo industry can understamd how mush she's supposed to pay. He ended up saying Fine, I'll refund it to you and later on I got refund email. Happily ever after...? I hope it was. I am going to get only 1 picture printed. 3 sizes but it doesn't matter cause I get only one same pictures from an hour session unless I pay $299.00. I should know before I buy the package but it really doesn't say clearly on their website. Maybe that might be the way they do business. read more

Overall, working with Hawaiianpix was an INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTING experience! It's not worth any time, effort, or money! Get your pictures taken elsewhere; the results are HORRENDOUS here. My husband & I were very excited, albeit a little nervous, about taking our first professional pictures together & we recieved this Groupon as a gift. I did a lot of preparation in choosing our outfits, researching poses & trying to develop a concept for our shoot. In addition, I wanted to ensure that the photographer was aware of my anxiety in front of the camera & what I know about myself pertaining to pictures. When I contacted the Office Manager, I was told that the photographer was available for consultations for wedding & maternity pics only. I was told that I could send the information via email & that it would be communicated to Jerry, the photographer. On the day of the shoot, it became abundantly clear very quickly that Jerry had no intention of incorporating any of the concerns or preferences I had emailed--or they weren't communicated to him. Jerry & his assistant were very nice but there was absolutely no effort made to personalize the shoot/pics or to capture us at our best. All of the posing was awkward & uncomfortable & completely generic. He uses the same poses for everyone. There was a lack of professionalism & no effort was made to assess how we were feeling, if there should be changes, etc. Additionally, we took pics AT A BEACH & the majority of the pictures are in grass! I actually cried when the proofs were posted online, the pictures were THAT BAD. Please don't waste your time & energy with this company. read more

Really not worth it!!! Have your friends take your pictures... If you buy any images expect a watermark. Even if you pay extra for the digital image!!! Also expect at least a month for a response to your complaint because they will not handle it over the phone! They tell you to email... It was mailed a week after the photos came out online. It took 4 business days to get the mail. I'm happy about that. I'm still waiting for my e-mail response though. I used Hawaiianpix service back in 2013, through a Groupon deal for my engagement photos. My then fiancé and I were disappointed with the results, my amateur photographer friend could have done a better job. The photographer and his assistant gave bad guidance, and had no creativity, making the poses awkward and unnatural. The digital package is expensive for the poor results. Any how, I didn't write a review since I took it as a lesson - You get what you pay for. Life moved on, and I forgot about Hawaiianpix. Recently, Hawaiianpix started spamming my email inbox with Photography workshops. Seriously, your photographer sucks big time, and you try to teach people how to take photo?!?! We had a great time taking pictures on our recent honeymoon. The photographer was incredibly helpful, stopping between takes to reposition us or move with the light. We met at Papa'iloa Beach at 10, and he was prompt/met us exactly where the directions detailed. We worked from one side of the beach to the other, moving in and out of direct sunlight so we didn't sweat to death before the shoot was over. Plus, enjoying the sights/sounds of the beach, even playing in the water for a bit. My husband doesn't love photo shoots, but he didn't seem to mind an hour here. I was thankful to get some beautiful pictures from our honeymoon on Oahu. We haven't gotten our proofs yet, but the experience alone was well worth the cost. We can't wait to see the work! I purchased their Groupon last year in October and I totally forgot about the close approaching expiration date. I called and talked to Micole. She was really helpful and accomodating. I wanted to use the Groupon before it expired in April, but all their Saturdays were booked. Micole scheduled me for a Saturday in May instead and she was able to honor the Groupon's full value even though it was past its expiration date :-) We were running a lit bit late (10 mins after our scheduled time), but Jerry and his assistant Justin were super duper understanding and nice. As soon as we got there, we went to a spot in Ala Moana Beach Park and Jerry started snapping pictures right away. When I booked our appointment, I totally forgot it was Mother's Day weekend. Everyone and their moms was at the park :-P So we had an audience, but I didn't care. We had so much fun! Jerry is a really fun photographer:-) Me and my fiancee are pretty stiff people (we're not exactly lovey-dovey in front of others... kinda weird, you know!), but he was able to loosen us up with his jokes. We definitely needed the coaching;-) LOL... We were really happy that Jerry got some photos of waves crashing onto shore behind us:-) One wave was so big, it got my fiancee wet! I used them because of groupon and i was left unimpressed. We had 4 different photoshoots on our trip and this one resulted in mediocre photos that were WAAAAY more expensive than all of the other three, and that's including the groupon "deal" discount!!! I mean, their pictures were OK overall; but not anywhere as good as the other three photo sessions we had that week. First, the website is exremely difficult to use - so much so, that they had to create a Youtube video to explain how to place an order. (BTW, the video is outdated as well as the website no longer looks like the video). I can totally see the need for a video - if you're not careful, you can order $10K in photos! Then, the groupon promised "two 4x6, two 4x7, and 4 wallet photos" which made me think i would get up to 8 different photos for my $50 plus shipping. Instead, you get 8 of ONE photo for the $50!!! Ridiculous. Compared to service we received from other photographers in Honolulu/Waikiki, i would NOT recommend Hawaiianpix to anyone. Consider the price on top of that, i would recommend you STAY AWAY! read more

IF I were you, and I had to book a photographer on Oahu, I would look elsewhere. We took our chances, coming from Seattle, with a Living Social deal I found about 6 months before our trip, which was the last week of June 2013. We got there, our photographer Justin, couldnt have been less interested. He didnt know how to pose us. He spent minutes between each picture trying to figure out where to put us. We had one request, as it was our First Anniversary, that he take a picture of us holding our weddding photo that we had brought from Seattle with the beautiful blue water in the background. Every single shot had a glare! Not one was usable. I emailed my complaints to Jerry, the owner, and got a response a week later from the office manager, Andi, Terrible customer service. Do yourself a favor, and when you need special pictures taken, look elsewhere. This is NOT the company to choose. read more

Jerry did a great job for me and my husband. We purchased a Groupon online for a couple portrait. During the session, we enjoyed ourselves and we trashed our dress. The pictures turn out to be fantastic. His photography is the way I expected it. My husband was nervous before the session, a little bit, but from the pictures we both look very natural. Love it! And I found the previous review about groupon experience is not fair to Jerry. He gave very detailed explanation on both groupon page and in his manager's email. I would say I got what I expected. Jerry was awesome! We did the groupon package and had a wonderful experience! My husband hates taking photos but with Jerry's personality he put my husband at ease and me as well! He is a very experienced photographer that knows what he is doing! Super easy to work with! The only thing I would change is the directions to the location! They were hard to find and we had to call twice to talk to someone! The directions I printed off online did not give me good directions! This is my fourth time taking a class from Jerry & his Hawaiianpix crew. It has been a great experience for me. His Know Your Camera series is great class for those that wanting to develop their photographic knowledge and skill. The best class I took so far is his Portrait Lighting class. The things I've learned from his class I've been able to apply in my daily photographic adventures. He's also very cool when I have questions regarding photography. He'll try to reply to your emails as soon as possible and always willing to teach outside the workshop. If you live in the Mililani or any where in central Oahu check out his classes. Do I have to give a star? I would love to tell you about having a great photoshoot with this company, but I can't. They cancelled our photoshoot (via text message) 2 hours prior, our appointment was at 9:00 am, saying we may reschedule in the afternoon due to weather. We said okay and waited. The weather during the time (and we happened to be staying near where the photos were to be taken) stayed perfectly clear. Not a cloud in the sky. At 2:15 pm we get a text (again a text message not a phone call) saying they are canceling due to weather. At this point it has not rained or even had clouds in the area that our photos were to be taken. Let me add 2 additional things here, when I booked, I tried to schedule an appointment prior to the day we were leaving. Jerry advised repeatedly that everything would be fine to do it the morning that we are schedule to fly out. Now it is too late for us to use any of the other professionals that I had quotes from. What ultimately bothers me is the lack of consideration by sending text messages (with weather reports, I guess to show he isn't lying?) to cancel things that people plan (all 5 photoshoots he had today were cancelled per Jerry) Thank you Jerry for canceling photos for our anniversary trip. Anyone else planning to use them, please consider reading the bad reviews. Spend the additional money and find someone who communicates better. read more

I guess he wasn't interested in a one-off mainland customer, but he should've just emailed as much, or made up a story that he was fully booked during our Honolulu dates. DO NOT PURCHASE THEIR GROUPON! Probably great wedding photographers. But we wanted a nice family shoot before we moved off the island. And we had a groupon. The photographer did not make us feel comfortable, he obviously was just going thru the motions. He had no personality and put us in the most awkward poses ever, so obviously this showed in the portraits. We hated almost all of them. Most of the pictures were poorly edited. Shiny faces. Hair looking all a mess. Eyes even closed!! I cannot believe they put some up for us to choose our whole 2 prints from. I actually liked about 5 pictures of the 70. Wanted to print them but was going to cost about $200. Horrible experience, bad product, and awful prices. read more

Our family definitely felt ripped off by their Groupon deal! They took decent pictures but were not very friendly or warm. What Groupon did not specify is that they take multiple images and only allow you to print one image. You have the choice to purchase the rest through their website. We were satisfied until it was posted on the website at completely ridiculous prices! It was definitely not worth the hassle or disappointment. I absolutely don't mind spending money on professional photography that will create lasting memories but I refuse to buy something from a company that is purposely trying to blindside people by offering them a "good deal." I would like to start off by saying I liked the pics, however I think if you are going to use Hawaiianpix, there are some things you should know. I am an avid family photo lover, and my husband and I were excited to get some maternity photos done with Hawaiianpix. I have had many photos taken, and have never had a bad experience until now. Here is why: 1. The photos and quality are not worth the price. I purchased a "groupon" for Hawaiianpix, but it turns out the small print basically gives the illusion of being a cheaper deal/or a great deal. It really isn't that good of a deal because of what you will end up paying later to actually GET your photos. Read your groupon carefully and be sure you have the cash required later to get your pics. 2. They run promotions all of the time--they send them in your e-mail account, and through the mail. When I tried to use one of their promotions (so much off when you spend so much), their website shut me out. When I contacted them to explain the problem, they basically said "well we can't help how our website functions and/or charges you". I stated how disappointed I was, but didn't really get a response so I went ahead with a lesser/different promotion that worked, but it was far less in value. Then, 2 DAYS LATER, they had a different promotion on specifically the package I purchased that would have saved me a LOT OF MONEY. Thanks for not only NOT honoring your promotions, but giving me a heads up of a better promotion if had just waited. JERKS. 3. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PROBLEM: After TAKING MY $300 for a digital package, I currently CANNOT download the images on their external website that is given in a link when you purchase. So... I'm out quite a lot of money with basically nothing to show for it. I would really consider before using Hawaiianpix--I personally would NOT use them ever again. ever. read more
