We were delighted to see this location is back in business. They are currently opened Thursday, Friday & Saturday, under new ownership. As we remembered, the ribs are excellent; tender, moist, and flavorful (with a tasty sauce). The baked beans are also quite good. The cheesy potatoes were different than we had previously experienced; but upon questioning, there may have been a mix-up in our take-out. Nonetheless, that has not dampened our desire to return and try some of their other offerings (especially their prime rib sandwich, when available). We're very glad, we can once again get a little taste of "heaven". read more

Lots to like about Hawg Heaven... and good things *do* come in small packages. With only a few tables (but access to a 120 seat fellowship hall if you're bringing a crowd) and a modest menu, they still pack a whole lot of smoked meat goodness. They were out of ribs, but the brisket, pulled pork and rib tips were great. Portions were generous and the prices pretty reasonable. They only featured one homemade BBQ sauce, which packed a decent level of heat and a lot of taste. The fifties/Harley decor added to the charm, and the service didn't disappoint. Sides were adequate, including fried cabbage and deviled eggs (which, as recommended, are great with BBQ sauce!). We'll definitely be back. read more

This place is awesome. We were enroute to Michigan and found it on Yelp. A little off highway 31 but worth the detour. Pulled pork and brisket were as good as it gets. Also had fried cabbage which delighted my wife. She said she hadn't seen that available anywhere for years and it was excellent. Lisa was very attentive and made sure our food and experience were great. She even took our picture before we left !!! Place was extremely clean. I am only in Kokomo for a few weeks and my boss decided to take our team out for a quick lunch and this place did not disappoint! As we walked up to the restaurant, it definitely stood out among the houses on the street with it's silver exterior with large/bold painted letters. We came in and immediately got seated at the table closest to the space heater, which is something I really appreciate when there is one available! Our waitress came and got our drink orders and since the menu is pretty short, we all already knew what we wanted so we ordered that too. Our food came about 10 minutes later. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with a side of the cheesy potatoes. The pulled pork was very flavorful and the bun was not soggy at all. They had 2 different BBQ sauces on the table, one spicy and one sweet. They were both really good and I ended up mixing them together because I couldn't choose the better one! The cheesy potatoes had a good flavor, but my only gripe is that they were pretty cold. I've heard the green beans are good, so I might go with that as a side next time. The service was very quick and always kept our water glasses full. Everyone was very friendly too! I would recommend this place for a hearty, quick lunch if you're in the area. read more

This neighborhood restaurant serves a tasty meal with a combination of motorcycle and farm animal theme: Hawg (Hog). Though not much to look at from the outside, there is a small patio for outdoor seating during nicer weather and two small dining rooms inside. The order counter is located inside the first room and the woman working that day made sure to greet every customer as they entered. Note that they do accept credit cards, but all prices listed are for cash customers. Still, the mark up is minimal and should not deter anyone from using the convenience of cards. I placed an order to go and selected the pulled pork sandwich with a side (I chose cole slaw). They only have two choices for sauce: sweet or hot. The meal only took a few minutes to prepare and I soon was on my way. The to go box had the sauce in one small container and the slaw in another. No spilling which was appreciated. The pulled pork was also in a small paper tray, with the bun next to it so the bun didn't become soggy while waiting either! Very well thought out. I quickly assembled my sandwich and used some of the sweet/creamy slaw on top of the sandwich. Really good! The meat was not dry like some places. There was also a generous helping which I didn't fit on my sandwich, so I was glad there was plenty of sauce to dip the remainder in. In addition to free street parking along Defenbaugh, there is a lot across the street that was available for convenience. Good barbecue with several sides to choose from. Amazing customer service. Perfectly smoked, fall off the bone ribs with an obvious sweet slather. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about the beef brisket. It was extremely tough and dry. The pulled pork was very dry, as well. Needless to say, that was disappointing. My husband said his Cuban was ok, noting the dry pork. Cheesy potatoes were a highly recommended item, so I tried them. They were lacking seasoning:( Coleslaw was creamy and sweet. Potato salad was good. Baked beans were flavorful but very dry, they had a "pasty" consistency. About 3 years ago a wedding my wife and I attended was catered by Hawg Heaven. The BBQ and sides were very tasty so we were excited to try their restaurant. We arrived early on Saturday... it was cold outside and pretty chilling inside. Asked where we might find a warm table and was told they were all about the same -- chilly. Our server was ON IT. She was attentive and quick. We did have to ask about the side specials for the day and were provided the information. After we received our lunch we heard her on the phone with a customer telling them that brisket chili was a special that day. We were unaware --- would have been good information to have had before we ordered. We ordered traditional pulled pork with a couple of sides. We both agreed the corn bread was very tasty! The pork was tasty. When applying the bbq sauce on the table, because the sauce was chilled, the pork did not stay warm. - still tasty though. The sides were small. They almost seemed like a taste. The backed beans were good. The cabbage, one of the specials of the day was a winner! The green beans -- well, no -- not again. They were pretty bland. Over all -- average. No reason to go back. Wow! This place was awesome. I took a group of missionaries to this location. We each got a two meat plate with two sides. It all looked good to me. I got the brisket, and the pork. Kokomo, Indiana's Hawg Heaven is the kind of place that you look at from the street corner and think to yourself "It can't be much." Then, you go inside and realize you've stumbled into a little piece of indie culinary heaven. To be fair, Hawg Heaven did donate a meal to a recent fundraising event that I held that took me to the Kokomo area. Despite this, as we pulled up to Hawg Heaven I nearly instantly docked the place a star due to accessibility issues that are only rarely overcome by sublime food and service. Hawg Heaven has parking across the street from its restaurant, a somewhat gravelly parking lot that requires the crossing of a street at a 4-way stop. It's not a high-traffic area, though it's worth noting that this may make it somewhat difficult for some with disabilities. Additionally, the glass front door has a small step going into the restaurant that required I pop a wheelie in order to enter. Again, these weren't huge issues but in most cases they would result in reduction of a star as I tend to reserve my 5-star experiences for those places that truly are also accessible. However, I've made exceptions before and I'm making one again. If by some chance you haven't been able to guess, Hawg Heaven overwhelmingly emphasizes pork - BBQ, pulled pork, brisket, prime rib and a handful of other options including grilled cheese, a Cuban, chicken salad, and even a quesadilla. The menu is rather simple and straightforward. You can order a sandwich, which comes with one side, or a platter with two sides. The sides don't include fries, though they do have Dirty Chips (it's a brand) along with applesauce, homemade cole slaw, green beans, tropical fruit, baked beans, cottage cheese and occasionally some special sides. I went with the Dirty Chips, though I rather regretted not opting for the cole slaw. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich along with my Dirty Chips. The sandwich was absolutely sublime, perfectly moist with tremendous flavor and texture. I instantly knew I'd made the right choice. My dinner companions, whose meals were not comped, were equally satisfied with their meals (brisket in both cases). The service was stellar, though that was at least partly due to a lack of customers and the fact they knew of my arrival. I was impressed, however, that they knew to expect me as I often have to go through a few channels when I'm on the road and having a sponsored meal. The atmosphere has a strong motorcycle theme, the female business owner being a devoted motorcycle enthusiast. The employees were friendly and helpful; present, but not overbearing. It is a small restaurant, thus conversations don't really feel private yet it also never really feels invasive. Located not far from the Elwood Haynes Museum, Hawg Heaven was truly a wonderful experience from beginning to end. I was immensely happy with the meal, adored the service, and absolutely loved the atmosphere. When I'm in Kokomo, I'll definitely go back. read more

Great food and service! Ate here on our way to our vacation destination and was relieved to find a decent place open to dine in during COVID-19. The waitress seemed absolutely tickled to greet us when we came in which is always a good start! They were only set up for maybe 5 small tables so luckily it wasn't busy. There were three of us for lunch so for the main course we had the Cuban sandwich, pulled pork and brisket. All were so so tasty and good. For our sides, we tried green beans, Cole slaw, potato salad, and baked beans. I had the potato salad, and it was super good...great additions with the onions and egg. Our waitress was super sweet and extremely helpful. The only thing we would say to make the experience better would be some music. Sometimes it was very odd and quiet, so music could help. read more

had a very enjoyable experience here on a Tuesday night. It has a fun motorcycle theme to it, and my waitress was very accommodating, helpful, and friendly. I ordered the brisket with chunky applesauce and Cornbread. The brisket was very good, as was the barbecue sauce that complemented it. The applesauce was good too, but could have used some cinnamon in my opinion. The cornbread was good too. I ended my meal with some peanut butter pie, which was very tasty. To be completely honest, I don't see what all the rave is about this place. When we first moved to town, we were stoked to have a BBQ joint, being that is it one of our favorite foods. We sat down and they seemed to be out of almost everything. After settling on our 2nd choice of meat AND picking through what was left on the options of sides, we were quite disappointed because we were unable to eat what we actually wanted. One thing I enjoy about BBQ is the big flavors. I did NOT get that here. Sides were quite mediocre with nothing really standing out and I found that the sides I feel most people like and are common in bbq joints were not available as an option( like Mac n cheese) yet, they have chips and apple sauce??? If you order a sandwich, you're pretty much just getting meat and bread. The Cuban was pretty alright but I have had better in town. Ribs were decent but I wouldn't pay that much for that quality again. Which is how I felt about all of the food- price and quality did not match up. My husband and I were in town for our daughters prom and decided to Yelp a good place to eat and this restaurant was one of the two we were going to go with so glad we decided to pick this place. My husband had a whole slab of ribs coleslaw deviled eggs abs i went with the usual pulled pork, cabbage and baked beans all of it was pretty fantastic, barbecue sauce was sweet and tasty we both had enough left overs for another meal. Was excited to try Hawg Heaven after hearing great things. Had a Prime and Cuban sandwich. The Prime was good but could have been great if it had more of the included toppings. The Cuban rates as "ok". The bread to meat ratio was a little too much in the breads favor for my liking. If I go back it will be for another Prime with extra toppings. read more

By far the best BBQ in Kokomo! The staff here is SO sweet and the food has that "made with love" superb taste and quality. I haven't tried any side I didn't love and the meat, with variety of sauces to choose from, couldn't be better. The decor is inviting and reminds me a man cave (even the bathroom, which is very clean, is decorated well). The pricing is on point and if you get it to go, they prepare it quickly. We had an OK experience here. We stopped in for lunch at about 1:30, between meal rushes. We ordered pulled pork sandwiches and bagged chips. The pork was cooked without sauce and seasoned well, but was very dry...maybe a result of being precooked before the lunch crowd and either held warm or re-heated. Adding BBQ sauce helped, but the sauce was not particularly memorable. There was an acceptable amount of meat, but definitely not what I would consider a generous portion. I will say that the restaurant was small, but attractively decorated and VERY clean. Even the bathroom was impressively clean. The service staff was okay. It was a little awkward in that the restaurant was small, and we were the only customers. I think the server hesitated to interrupt our conversation and approach us too often, and we were aware that our conversation could easily be overheard by the entire restaurant staff, which was like right. there. at the service counter/kitchen window next to us. It wasn't like we were discussing anything all that important or sensitive, but was just kind of awkward and silent.
