We were taking our son back to college and we stopped in for dinner. It was pretty good. It took a good long while to get our order. NONE of our food was as hot as it should've been. I have to wonder if it had been sitting for a bit after it was made. When my nachos got to my table, it was actually cold. The "melted" cheese had solidified. When I had brought this to the attention of our server she did say that her manager had mentioned something about that before the nachos were served. Okay. So if a MANAGER had noticed then why serve it at all? I just don't understand... but they did rectify the situation. Once I did get my nachos the way they should've been to begin with, they were delicious. We also ordered Fried Green Tomatoes. I LOVE FRIED GREEN TOMATOES and theirs is super good. Jalapeño Corn Chowder also yummy. (The chowder was the only item served hot.) The Voodoo Pasta and the Drunken Chicken also good. I would totally stop again if needs be. We had a reservation for three of us at a booth in the bar area and were seated promptly. Our server was Sierra (sp?) and was very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. We a started out with a Bloody Mary and mimosas and the fried green tomatoes with chipotle ranch appetizer, all of which were very good and came out quickly. My husband ordered the tenderloin and onion rings and my sister and I shared a salmon salad and the Hoosier Hot Plate. Everything was delicious. The tenderloins were thick and had a nice, crunchy breading. The onion rings, potatoes with white gravy and green beans were perfect accompaniments. The salad had a nice sized portion of salmon and a great dressing that complimented it. To top it off, I got a free birthday dessert! Five words- Molten Chocolate Cake.... GET IT! We stopped here last night on our way back to Indianapolis. We were promptly seated and greeted by a nice waitress. We happened to come on a great nice as the steak dinner was on sale for 9.99 on Monday's. It also came with two sides as well as the button mushrooms. The restaurant serves a homemade bread with a unique seasoning on top. It was super good and fluffy. The French onion soup was good and had plenty of cheese. The steak itself was cooked perfectly. I was there a couple days ago for Liver & Onions takeout, which was very good. While there I seen a large platter of all you can eat catfish. I came back today on Friday for a carryout order of all you can eat catfish and received 11 very small pieces of catfish and the fries were half fried. For 15.00 I was so disappointed. The pickles were very dry - they used a corn meal rather than a breading, and moisture isn't the friend of fried foods, but these went well past that fine line to not being enjoyable The taco salad, the salad itself was a decent salad, but putting 8 tortilla chips on a plate with a salad on it, doesn't make it a taco salad. We came with a larger party of seven for dinner on a Saturday. Considering it was Saturday, they were able to accommodate us quickly. Our service was good until the end of our long dinner; then it left much to be desired prior to paying for our meal (empty water cups, no offer of refills, etc.). After placing our orders, we waited over an hour to have our meal served. At which point, four of the meals were inedible; cold, old fries, overcooked. The other three were tolerable, at best. At first, I was scared committing to Grindstone Charley's for Sunday lunch, as I feared I was walking into the Hoosier version of Applebee's. While some of those elements are there, I can appreciate how Grindstone Charley's has partnered with Cook's Bison Ranch (Wolcottville, IN) and Miller Amish Country Poultry (Orland, IN). This will be my final visit. The food is good but for the second visit in a row they sit me in the bar and they have the bar tender doing too much nothing wrong with the interactions but the bar tender is responsible for answering phones, taking care of carry out, taking payments, along with their normal bar tender duties. The result is terrible service. The one thing I will not tolerate is sitting without a beverage for very long ( I was drinking tea) while I am eating it ruins my whole experience given the choice of sitting and letting my food get cold or eating while thirsty. First time I thought ok they were short handed and the food tasted good but now I see this is the way they do it. Also I had ribs they tasted good put the size was very small. read more
