With Younkers and Von Maur exiting the only anchor store left is JCPenney. And JCPenney isn't what it used to be... Every now and then Valley West Mall lands a gem like Blaze Pizza and recently European Taste that sticks, but for the most part it seems to be a dying environment. I don't feel the drive-in or carnivals are a good idea. It seems to bring problems to the area that those of us who live in the Clive West Des Moines area don't need. Personally I feel it's more trouble than it's worth. Some businesses may benefit from the people it brings to the West side. Valley West Mall doesn't have the quality of a food court that Merle Hay Mall does... Though foodie traffic would probably go a long way in bringing this mall back. While I now spend more time and money shopping at Jordan Creek and the Outlets in Altoona...I continue to shop at Valley West Mall when I can. I'm rooting for a comeback!

I went in a little over a week ago to get a pair of shoes that were on sale…read more I didn't see any on the sales floor so I looked online and it showed they had 2 pair in my size. Great. I could find no one in ANY department to try and get service in shoes. I saw 2 people working the check out area but no other employees and I did 2 full laps around the store. So I called and left a complaint which I'm sure had great effect. That was sarcasm in case you missed it. So just now I thought I'd give them another chance. I called the store directly and my call was sent to someone in shoes. Great again. After a 5 minute wait a very helpful person took the information about the shoes (online said they still had the 2 or) and she said she would go make sure they were there and I would hold. 10 minutes later I get customer service again and I said I was holding for someone in shoes. She was talking but evidently to someone else because I couldn't understand her, but she eventually got back on the phone and asked for my name and number someone would call back. I declined her offer. They made what should have been a simple transaction for $68 into a pain in the butt purchase for $85 ( the sale is over of course) but I guess it doesn't matter because it's NO SALE period and there would have to be a very compelling reason for me to ever shop at Kohl's again. There's at least 5 other stores in the area that also have the shoes for $85, I'm going to try one now.

We went to check out the store for fun anyway. We were not greeted when we came in even though we were the only people in the store. We found his exact vehicle in the store. He pointed to the part he needed and the guy didn't even look, just said, "we don't have it." We left and my white brother-in-law called and reminded them of the day he had purchased the same part. He had them set it aside for us and we returned. my husband bought the $48 part and asked if they could install it. It was clear they didn't want to do it and he was given a very vague answer of how they were too busy even though there were no other people in the store. My husband paid for the part and left. Whether they were just lazy or racist we don't know but either way, the service was terrible.

I went to a different Dollar Tree this a.m., and ended up leaving without my purchases, due to the other store being severely understaffed, and there being 11 people in the 1 lane open. I came back to this store, and she has everyone moving quickly AND efficiently, while ALWAYS being super courteous. She needs to be recognized for the great job she does. And the manager too!
