The first portion of this review is a warning to buyers in the KC area. I traveled three hours to KC for a Lexus RX listed at one of the areas multi million dollar Taj Mahal style dealerships. I communicated with them for a week regarding the cars cosmetic condition etc. I walked in to find the rear interior was destroyed by children (stains, markers etc.) and so much undercarriage corrosion that rust would fall when you kicked the running boards. Hardware such as clamps and bolts in the engine compartment were completely corroded as if it were a flood vehicle. I used to be a mechanic so I know what a car that's only three years old with 30K should look like. The 2008 with 100K I drove there didn't have any deterioration like this car had. The photos of the car were extremely misleading and purposely shot in a low resolution to help hide defects. The experience was beyond insulting and I seriously wouldn't have bought the car for half price if they offered. These big dealerships with marble floors and expensive coffee makers are built on high margin sales. They buy the worst (and cheapest) examples of cars at auction and make them as pretty as possible then sell to people who are none the wiser. Their Lexus Certified Preowned tactic is basically a scam. The cars are inspected (by the dealer who is trying to maximize profit, not an outside party) and given an extension on a warranty that a quality Lexus shouldn't even need. The big dealers use this CPO status to make people feel better about what they are buying and cause them to not second guess the cars condition or potential shady past. Working with Sean at Hawk is the complete opposite. He is upfront, fair and honest. He only carries quality inventory and truly believes what he sells is a direct reflection on him. I found out Sean had an RX before it was serviced and detailed. After speaking with Sean he agreed to let me have first shot at it when it was ready to hit his lot. Sean's price was so competitive he could have likely sold it for more and just made up some story that I'd have to believe being three hours away. Instead he held the car for me as promised and I drove up and purchased. Three months later my friend bought a Lexus GX from him and is just as satisfied. Do not be blinded by the big flashy dealerships and consult Sean if you are in need of a vehicle. I won't buy a car from anybody else. read more

Buying a used car is a stressful prospect. I had all but forgot about the used car game. You either go to a CarMax, or a reputable dealer if you want to have low hassle, but you will end up spending 10-20% over the market for a used car. Next come the buy here pay here dealers. You step foot on the lot, and you can feel the greasy sales tactics in the air, but, if you are skilled enough to look over the car, watch for ownership pitfalls, and then deal with the cheesy dude on the other end of the desk, you can find a decent deal. The problem is, in the back of your head, you are constantly wondering: what kind of stuff are they hiding from me? Enter Hawk Automotive. He doesn't have a fancy store-front, or a showroom, the place isn't crawling with service managers, sales people, finance people, and mechanics. If you want to help pay for all that overhead with your next car purchase? Be my guest. If you are looking for a clean car, with low miles, a solid vehicle history, at or under market value? This is the place. The business owner wants to build his business on you leaving happy and telling your friends. He has put his capitol into the vehicles that he puts on his lot, not on overhead. You can tell from his inventory that he's after the smart buyer: Someone who doesn't want to take the value hit on a new car, but wants something that's next to perfect at the best possible price. My specific experience? After watching the market for a few months, I could see a pattern for what this specific car seemed to go for, and he was within $500 of that price. After the sale, I ran into a couple of interesting situations with the car, none of which were his responsibility or concern, but he bent over backwards to make sure that I was 100% pleased. Excellent service and I would buy from them again!!! I was searching for a specific Honda Civic for my daughter and found one online at Hawk Automotive. It was priced lower than a couple of dealers in town so of course I was worried that it would not be as advertised. But it was just as they had advertised. There is nothing hidden with this dealership. Their cars are newer model and in excellent condition. There was no pressure and I felt they were honest with me. I felt comfortable throughout the whole process. I surprised my daughter when we went to pick it up and Hariom (at the Crimson and Blue location in Lawrence) was even in on the surprise. We differed a little on the value of my trade in, but we negotiated a fair deal on an almost perfect 2010 GMC Canyon.
