I purchased a vehicle from here and I can't believe they sold me something like this it's a Chrysler PT cruiser 2003 with 132,000 miles it's clean all the way around and told me that it was the best car I can get for $3,000 it ran well in the beginning only a day later the engine check light comes on I take it to AutoZone and they say oil pressure I take it to a mechanic and I get four codes crankshaft or pressure low battery and fluid leaking from the engine they gave me a straight living and passed it off has a good vehicle the car is stopping in the middle of the road they just took my money and ran off with it they gave me nothing back they won't give me a trade this definitely should be a class action lawsuit because there are many just like me the mechanics I took my car to said that they have a lot of cars that come through Hawkeye Auto and recommend that I never go there everyone speaks badly about them I can't believe I caught on too late save yourself here's what's wrong with it just got it two weeks ago coolant leak possible water pump and thermostat housing oil sender has been recently replaced in the case a deeper issue release oil pressure high on scan tool crankshaft sensor codes indicate failing sensor possible needs new connector located under starter battery sensor issue located under battery misfire code May a symptom of crankshaft sensor issue or failing all pack or coil pack technician they sold me a pile of junk and I believe they've been getting away with it for a long time this needs to stop read more

I went to Hawkeye Auto today, 08/14/2014, to look for a car for my daughter and I felt as though I was more of a bother to the sales staff than a customer spending money. The lack of customer service was ridiculous! I understand the cars are AS-IS, but you would think with all of the car lots in Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Iowa City, etc to choose from....keeping a customer motivated to shop and spend money would be key. Thought we would give them another chance and purchased another vehicle last week. We got it into the shop today and it requires over $2500 worth of work. My first car buying experience here was pretty good. Decent car, decent price. No issues. The second car was a completely different story. Most of the experience was fine, until we got to the negotiation phase. When I asked about negotiating the price, the "old man" started going on and on in a truly obscene and offensive manner about how unfair I was being, yada yada yada. If I didn't know any better, you'd think I was literally taking food off his table and killing his grandkid's puppy. He could have lied and said something about the price being too close to their cost, or whatever, and I would never have given it a second thought. But no, he had to make it personal and off-putting. For reasons that I cannot go into here, we did end up buying that vehicle, so they unfortunately won that round, but I will NEVER buy a vehicle from this company again. This was by far the worst car shopping experience I have ever had. When I wanted to look at a car the "salesperson" handed me the key and said nothing. While taking the car for a test drive I noticed the brake pads and possibly the rotors needed to be replaced. When I went back in to negotiate purchasing this used car I sat down with the same "salesperson." I began by asking for a carfax or autocheck report, which he refused. He claimed they do not provide these reports. I went forward by bringing up the problem with the brakes in an effort to bring the sticker price down. He did not acknowledge my concerns about the brakes and simply said, "6700." Is this how they negotiate? I cannot believe how unhelpful and unwilling to communicate this "salesperson" was. If you're looking for a good deal and a pleasant car buying experience, you will find neither at Hawkeye Auto. read more

If you are looking for a great deal on a used vehicle, shop here. Prices are so low I don't think there's much room for negotiation. In the process of looking for cars and stopped here to take a look, basically the employees are rude and you can tell all they want is your money, half of the cars arent even cleaned on the inside and still have stuff in them from previous owners (garbage, cds, clothing?) I have heard lots about this place including their "quick fix ups" including ducktape, random nuts and bolts, etc... basically any car that drives, goes on their lot. Last year, they sold my dad a car after a 2 hour drive. He was combative when discussing pricing and essentially told him to accept the price or get the hell out. On the way home, the previously working air conditioning broke and the window became stuck down. The possibility of these problems were never disclosed and eventually we pulled their arm enough to have Hawkeye offer to fix the door and AC. The one condition was that we had to drive another 2 hours in the middle of the summer and have them look at it, to confirm that we did not break it on the way home. I was excited to find my SUV of interest at this dealership. Unfortunately, the deal went wrong due to poor communication and unfair business. My spouse and my two children live an hour away and had driven to Hawkeye auto to see a Toyota Sequoia. It was priced at around 5,495. 197,000 miles. We were interested. We did a test drive, and found that the car was in limp mode.. pushing 6,000 RPMs it only got up to 45 MPH max. The dealer advised they would fix the car and call us back. 1 week went by, still no call. I had called back myself, and the dealer advised the lag in speed was due to cat. converter. Dealer said they would replace it and call back. Another week later, still no call.... so yet again... I called. Dealer advised it was not the cat. converter, it was 2nd air intake. Dealer advised it was fixed. Dealer said "Yes, the car is fixed, you're welcome to come do another test drive." My family and I drove an hour to the dealership, cash in hand ready to purchase.... Now let me tell you, they knew we have little kids and live an hour away...... We showed up to do another test drive since they fixed the problem.... And they raised the price $1,500!!!!!!! ***First off, when a dealer sees a young couple in their early twenties, wouldn't you think it is an important aspect to mention THE PRICE HAS BEEN RAISED $1,500??!? I mean, come on... we were attentive and persistent in trying to buy the vehicle.... They did not communicate with us at all unless WE called.... they did not mention a PRICE RAISE when advising the work on the vehicle was done.... And the guys on the phone always took down my number but NEVER ONCE called me back. After going through all their hoops, we decided no matter how badly we wanted the vehicle, they did not deserve our business due to the poor communication and bad business practice. Sure, it's their dealership, they can raise the price all they want... but for the work they did, the raise in price amount was outrageous, the car had 197,000 miles on it.... Also, they should have communicated a raise in the price when we told them we lived an hour away and would do another test drive.... I am shocked they did not accept $5,000 cash for it honestly. But hey, at least I can share my poor experience to hopefully save the next person some trouble. Don't do business with someone who can't communicate, and is not interested in selling you a vehicle at a fair price. We were advised by a friend who is a dealer that the first red sign in any dealership is a dealer who does not communicate. This was by far my worst experience with a car dealer. These bunch of unprofessional "salesman" know absolutely nothing about respect and how to conduct business. I sent three emails over three days, and each was during business hours and they sent me a two word response. I called then three times a few days later. Once I was hung up on by Luke. I called within a minute and Luke appeared to be mocking me and harassing me over simple questions. I called a third time and I was hung up on without as much as a hello. Worst car experience ever. Bought a 2009 with 126000 miles on it from Hawkeye auto. Three months later the engine completely blew. I realize used cars are sold as is, but it's absolutely ridiculous to have the engine blow on $7000 " good running" vehicle. Hawkeye auto and Luke were unwilling to rectify the situation im any way, shape, or form. As is sale or not, it's unfortunate hawkeye can't stand behind the vehicles they sell.
