We had a really easy time exacting a used car purchase with a really quick turnaround.

One star is appropriate for this place since I did actually get to test drive a car. I made an appt a day ahead to drive a Wrangler Unlimited. On the website you can enter a price as an offer. I entered the price of $19,000. This was a little low but I was hoping we could negotiate. A coworker recommended this place to me. I visited the dealership and was late due to the construction (they didn't tell me!). I was given a salesperson who did not know anything about a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited! What's the horsepower? "Um, don't know, I'll have to ask" Is there hill descent control? Is there hill start assist? What is the engine? What are the tires? "Um, I'll have to get back with you about that". The guy was nice and there was no pressure. But really, he couldn't answer any of my questions. I told him about my price offer and that I had done research and thought it was pretty reasonable since the car is not new but used and there are better offers in in the area. He asked me if there were any other cars I was interested in. I said a Subaru Forester. He said he would go look and see if they had any on their other lots. He disappeared for some time and then returned with the manager. The manager told me there was no way I could get a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited anywhere around here for $19k. He said he looked at all of McGrath's lots and there was just no way. He showed me some computer paper which had a price of $25k which he said was the price they bought the car. Are you kidding me! What a bunch of malarkey! He said he would go down $500 but no more. Well, I thanked him for his time and walked out the store. I never did get the info on the Subaru or any of my Wrangler questions answered. It's probably for the best since I doubt the salesperson I was with knew anything about a Subaru either. They should have just told me they couldn't meet my price instead of wasting my time. The whole time I was waiting for the salesperson to find out about the Subaru, they were in the researching if there were any Jeep Unlimiteds for $19k? Really?! Why didn't they just come out and tell me straight up they couldn't meet my price but they could help me find another car? Instead they made me look like I was a liar! I guess it's okay for the salesperson to lie but if a customer is lying, then the management will spend 30 minutes doing research to find out if the customer is lying. Iowa is not a good place to buy a Jeep since they are overpriced here due to their popularity. Chicago is the best place to go to find a fair price. It's not as popular since most urbanites want a fuel efficient car. This experience left me really bad impressions of McGraths and Jeep. Only go here if you want a car that is overpriced and you are not willing (too lazy) to go to Chicago for a fair price. read more

Shopping for a used car can be the most infuriating or painful experience. Luckily, we did not experience that at the Marion Used Car Superstore. The dealer wasn't pushy but was helpful. He listened to what we wanted and came up with a surprisingly accurate list of cars to look at. They are affiliated with McGrath, so they have access to a wide selection of cars. Once we found exactly (seriously, it really was) what we were looking for, they gave us fair trade in on our vehicle. Very painless to work with and they have also followed through on everything they said they would do. I can't believe I am actually recommending a used car dealer after previous nightmare experiences, but they really did a great job and made the process much more pleasant than painful. read more

These guys were very fun to talk to and very informative throughout my car-buying experience. I gave them my budget and instead of finding the most expensive cars in that price range, they found me exactly what I was looking for and the price of the car was in the middle of the budget I had given them. I was purchasing my first car, so I had never gone through the financing or purchasing process. We stopped by Marion Superstore on a spur-of-the-moment look-see. For many months we had been wanting to trade up to an SUV. We had our sights on a number of styles and thought we would only qualify for an older vehicle. Dario McHenry met us outside and he helped us find a number of SUVs. We were surprised that we qualified for newer styles (no more than 3 years old) and Dario was kind, patient, and listened to our wants and needs. We did settled for a Ford Edge which was one of the first SUVs he led us to. When I asked that no hard pulls be done at first until we decided on the vehicle, the Superstore obliged. After we decided that the Edge was the one for us, it was a simple matter of having the reports run. They did everything they could to meet our needs and our demands on what we could pay each month and as a down payment. The Marion Superstore delivered and we are happy with the Ford Edge. We highly recommend Marion Used Car Superstore because of their courteous nature and customer dedication. read more

Just bought a vehicle from these guys. 100% screw job! Run around from the start. First they had a Pontiac Bonneville on the website for sale. When I called they said wasn't available. They said they would try to get the issue with it resolved and set an appointment with me to come in. When I got there they told me the Bonneville still wasn't available but they wanted to show me some other ones (Bait and switch anyone?) They proceeded to take me from lot to lot to look at cars but wouldn't tell me what I was going to see. They showed me 3 cars including one I told them on multiple occasions I wasn't interested in. It was a grand prix in terrible shape they had to show me so they could make the point that pontiacs arent worth it. I finally decided on a car that set me back close to $7000. That is including the $1200 down payment. Yes, they made me aware that it was as is, yes they offered an extra warranty. What they didn't do was sell me a decent product. It ran for about a month and lost all of its transmission fluid. It sat on my property for about 2 weeks waiting for a spot at my mechanics shop. I found out today it will cost over $500 to repair. Called Tucker and asked what we can do about this and all he wants to do is argue about as is and no warranty. Ok, so what am I supposed to do with a car I can't drive and can't afford to fix, especially after I just handed over $1200 cash trusting that I would have a decent vehicle to drive to work? This might be a different story if it had been a while, but i dont think ive put 3000 miles on it! I am a repeat customer, what can you do ensure I will come back next time? Nothing from Tucker but as is, no warranty. Until I got mad, then it was ,"I was thinking about helping you til now". Just another of their games. Just like the car on the site that's not really available. I wont buy from the marion used car superstore or any other Pat McGrath lot ever again. read more

I went in the store, looking for a car within a specific price range. The guys agreed, and worked some pricing, and gave me a price "including everything". I said I would be back the next day to buy the car. When I came back the next day, the price they gave me was over $2,000 more than the price they had originally told me the day before. It was nothing short of shady, and I would recommend saving your time and energy by avoiding this place. read more

I had an unpleasant experience at Marion Use Car Superstore rooted in the fact that the staff doesn't keep the inventory in a drivable condition. I didn't get to test drive the auto I wanted to purchase, because the auto wasn't in a drivable condition when I arrived for my appointment. A sales manager promised to have the auto in a drivable condition the next day. He stated the auto would be taken to their Dodge store the next day because the Marion location didn't have the needed equipment to make the auto drivable. I called the following afternoon to confirm the auto was in a drivable condition and to make an appointment for a test drive. The salesperson informed me the auto had been sold that afternoon. I don't consider the sales person to have done anything wrong. My complain about the dealership is based on the belief expressed by a member of the leadership team that the offer made to purchase the auto negated his commitment to allow me to test drive the auto after it was made road ready. He also expressed that he didn't believe any form of communication with me was appropriate before selling the auto to another customer. He stated that he believed I would feel that honesty (I have an offer from another customer.) would be taken by me to be a sales tactic. How jaded towards customers does one have to be to belief that an honest and upfront statement to a customer could only be received negatively? The sales manager also expressed to me that he didn't believe that his failure to fulfill his commitment to allow a test drive after the auto was ready to be driven was an ethical breech of conduct. When does one reach the point that a commitment to a customer doesn't have value? My conversation with this member of the leadership team left me with the impression of a cartoonish, used car lot rather than professional sales organization. Needless to say, I recommend avoiding the Marion Used Car Supercenter. The words and actions of a leadership team member don't appear to show an obligation by the organization to address a customer in an honest and ethical manner. read more
