Came here for a birthday dinner with my husband specifically for the Sunday Roast, and Hawksmoor did not disappoint! Pro-tip: book an early reservation. We had a later spot and the Ultimate Sunday Roast was already sold out, but the classic roast beef dinner we got instead was still phenomenal and the portions were huge. The restaurant itself is a little dark but homey, the servers were kind, we came during a shift change and it felt a little messy but got better. Being pregnant, I stuck to a Shirley Temple (which was great!), but the food stole the night. The roast beef was perfect, the stuffing was to die for and the bone marrow gravy was so delectable we wanted to drink it. We will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu!
Ok can we talk about the Notorious B.E.E.F?! This was truly one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. It was thick and juicy and tasted like an elevated version of a Big Mac. I was full after eating half but forced myself to keep eating because it was THAT good. Raw Oysters and bone marrow were also delicious but the burger stole the show. I highly recommend coming for happy hour. They have plenty of happy hour specials. Our waiter was also very friendly. I plan to come back for the burger
We were here for the Sunday Roast, which I've never had. I was a bit blown away by the massive plate that we were brought. I oooed and ahhd, then took my pictures and immediately got to work. Needless to say, my husband and I were no match for this magnificent meal. We had a whole second meal left over especially since we had to try the sides. I'm so grateful for the help of the staff and our amazing server. We felt right at home and cozy especially after stuffing out bellies. If you want to try it be sure to go on Sunday it's something new to try. I'm inspired to take a trip to London and try more of their cuisine.
Decided to partake in the Sunday Roast tradition at Hawksmoor Chicago after being heavily target-marketed on Instagram with lascivious reels of the bone marrow gravy being poured slow-mo over glistening beef. Needless to say, their marketing team deserves a raise. Good location in River North in an old cable car powerhouse, with a moody yet upscale aesthetic. Didn't love being sat for our Sunday brunch in the far corner next to the waitstaff service station, but the upholstered bench seating was comfortable. The Sunday Roast is the star of the show, but there are options that you can select to enhance your experience. We selected the Ultimate Sharing Roast, which comes with all the items in the per-person portion plus the Cauliflower Gratin and the Bone Marrow Stuffing, baked in-bone. The presentation is wonderful and the real highlights were the rib of beef with bone marrow gravy, the perfectly crisp roasted potatoes, the parsnips, the gratin, and the Yorkshire pudding. The cabbage could have used a little more fat and seasoning for its roasting, the bone marrow stuffing was dry and required the addition of the gravy to be even partially enjoyable, and the additional bone marrow bone, which I found to be overkill. I adored the spicy and bracing Shaky Pete's Ginger Brew during the meal, which was a perfect foil to the rather heavy, savory foodstuffs. It was a beautiful 70°+ day in Chicago and frankly, this is a colder weather kind of brunch. Save it for a rainy day! Literally! Our service was excellent throughout the meal, and we felt very well taken care of. We ended with the Sticky Toffee Sunday, an absolutely decadent treat but in a manageable portion and proportion with the ice cream. We were then treated to a little extra, a duo or chocolate oatmeal cookies that, for me at the end of this extremely filling and indulgent meal, were one toke over the line. I did enjoy the courtesy bite I took. It's a spendy way to start your Sunday, but very enjoyable. It could easily feed three (or four with modest appetites.) I do want to return to sample the other desserts and have another of those cocktails!
It was a difficult day at work, and I was craving a steak! I set out searching for a place to get some, and my eyes found themselves gravitating toward Hawksmoor, especially their happy hour menu. I went in and discovered that while the restaurant is fine dining, they do have an area upstairs which has more of a pub vibe, but with the same menu. From their happy hour menu, I ordered an Old Fashioned, a Margarita, oysters (six raw, three fried), and the steak and fries. Outside of the happy hour menu, I ordered the Steelhead Tartare and a Peanut Butter Louis for dessert. The raw oysters were fine. They were of small-to-medium size, and one or two of them had a little bit of shell. No complaints about the fried oysters. They were fried to crisp perfection, and while they didn't taste fishy, they weren't exploding with flavor, either. At $2 apiece for both, I'm going to choose to be forgiving. Where it comes to the Steelhead Tartare, this was one of the stars of the night. The fish was of absolutely stupendous quality and allowed to shine, rather than being overpowered by everything else. It was accented just the right amount by a little bit of greens, a lightly citrusy and sesame-based sauce, and teeny-tiny rings of chili. These added a very subtle heat that made me wish my taste buds weren't already seared off. The tartare was served with some well-toasted, properly thin quality bread. In terms of the main event, the steak frites were alright. The fries were underwhelming. They had a good level of salt, but otherwise seemed like they were either not made with care, or had spent some quality time under a lamp. In terms of the steak, maybe this is me being an uncultured swine, but I felt it wasn't show-stopping. It had a little bit of seasoning (salt), wasn't at all chewy, and had some good, subtle meat flavors. However, I've also had absolutely amazing melt-in-your-mouth steaks, and this wasn't it. Now, I appreciate that rump roast tends to be on the leaner side, but so does Filet Mignon, and I've had great ones that *do* melt in your mouth. For dessert, I ordered a Peanut Butter Louis, and this was the other star of the night. I can see why this is a variant of something served at a Michelin-starred restaurant. Some of the inside of the cake was crisp, while the rest was soft and decadent. This is especially helped by the peanut butter. Everything comes together in delicious harmony. It gets me nostalgic for when Reese's Cups were actually great before they went cheapo on the ingredients, but I digress. When it comes to the drinks, the Old Fashioned and the Margarita were standard. They were well-executed, but beyond that, completely unremarkable. If you *do* seek something more amazing, they have them on the regular menu, but these cost eight dollars more. It's happy hour, beggars can't be choosers. I do appreciate that these two drinks were strong, and getting out of my seat after the meal, I could definitely feel them. In terms of value, getting a solid piece of meat, $2 oysters, and strong drinks is a great deal. However, as it is with me, I start getting some accoutrements, and the price goes up pretty steeply. Set your expectations wisely. If you're seeking to get some good food in your belly at reasonable prices, Hawksmoor's happy hour is the place for you. But, if you want an elevated cocktail or elevated steak, maybe look beyond the HH. When it comes to service, I want to award all the credit. Items came out fast, and the service was kind, attentive, friendly, and the servers worked together as a team. One final note. I am not someone who cares *that* much. However, I notice, and I share. For a place that calls itself fine dining, the silverware had aggressive spotting. I realize it isn't dirt and just water spots. Nonetheless, one would hope a place that touts itself as fine dining would have their stuff together in terms of polishing. Final verdict. While there were some winners of the night, the main event left me underwhelmed. Perhaps that's by design, but given the fries, I can't be so sure. I do know that I left having paid a pretty penny with only moderate satisfaction. Thus, I don't have a feeling of dying to return, be it the HH menu or otherwise.
I'll start with one word, DISSAPOINTED. This place has good reviews and a online presence. I don't get it. Service was good. Got was cooked good. But the taste left a lot to be desired especially at these prices. Let's start with the Beef dropping chips, hash browns that's what they are $9 hash browns. The macaroni and cheese it's decent 3/5. The Boston Lettuce Salad it's good but I can make it and I'm not a chef. The Ribeye 14oz the biggest disappointment it taste like my wife made in a frying pan at home. Except her worse one taste way better. I didn't even like the bone marrow. The maple bacon was a hit though. Thick cut. Nice, slightly sweet flavor 4.5/5. I had wanted to try the Sunday Roast no shot I go back again on my own dime. Taste but price 2 stars.
Based on a Facebook post with a photo of steak frites at a special price during the happy hour from 5-6 pm, I booked a reservation. The experience was delicious and welcoming. I was in Chicago on business solo and this was, hands down, the best foodie experience. I'll definitely return the next time I'm on Chicago. Steak was perfect, red wine was well-paired, and the frites (fries) were crispy and tasty. Attentive, friendly bartenders who made everyone feel at home. Upscale, authentic British steakhouse, at reasonable prices.
Hawksmoor has a very low lite enjoyable atmosphere. The server was amazing, she did an awesome job. Kitchen was running behind. My experience is based off the restaurant week menu. First course was Yorkshire Sloppy Joes. Great flavor not your typical sloppy joes. They are served with this fluffy buns, rip and dip! Also, had the Smoked salmon. It was just ok. Second course was the Rump & side. I asked medium cooked. It was fantastic ! Highly recommend it. My side was a sweet potato was a perfect side. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. The last course was the dessert, Upside-down almond & apple cake. Great taste, easy lite after a meal. Also, had Walnut & whisky mille-feuille. Unreal flavor, it easily became a favorite . Consider the wine paring with the Rump and side. The wine complement the meat well.
I won a free wine pairing for restaurant week so I decided to take advantage of it. In terms of service, 5/5 all around. From getting the reservation booked to the helpfulness of my waiter, everyone exceeded my expectations. I'm docking a star because of the food itself, while everything was prepared well and tasted good, it wasn't exceptional and I didn't love the last wine in the pairing. My waiter was so nice though and gave me a substitute. I would come back here on a regular outing to try other things on the menu, but I felt like the restaurant week menu had a well rounded selection of what to expect from the restaurant.
Check in staff are great. They took our coats and sat us quickly to our seats with our reservation. For starters I had Ash-baked beet salad and it was delicious. I loved all the flavors. The Fat Old Fashion was strong and ok. My wife had the lobster but it seemed ok as well. I had the 16oz ribeye. I shared a few bites with her. It was ok as well. Our waitress was very nice and answered all our questions. It was lightly dimmed inside like most steakhouses are. They placed us in the corner which was nice. We celebrated our anniversary and our waitress provided a nice dessert Sticky Toffee Pudding for our anniversary. Didn't expect it and it was a nice touch but we were full.
The food was ok at best, meat was slightly overcooked and needed salt, had to ask for amount of cooking on meat. Waiter never asked. His quote was " we usually cook it with a slight pink showing " . I asked for medium rare, most of meat was medium with some medium well. The highlight was the cheesy cauliflower, and carrots, but I was there to be a carnivore. The experience and company was good but I wouldn't suggest this to anyone for a $600 bill. Half of that was what I put the worth at.
Tried a what would be one of top favorite cocktail in the city - Ultimate French 75 Light, crisp, and refreshing - great to have on its own or paired with some of the bar bites offered. The slight bubbly-ness from the champagne and light floral taste from the jasmine paired beautifully together.with a little vodka added to up the a proof level, this was a really amazing way to spend an early Christmas Eve evening
Came here for a company dinner and started with the breakfast martini which was really tasty. My second round was the full fat old fashioned which I could have done without. All apps were shared and included Vietnamese oysters, Charcoal-roasted scallops, Yorkshire Sloppy Joes and Gulf shrimp cocktail. Everything was super tasty and honestly I preferred the starters over the main dishes which again were orders family style. The table ordered chateaubriand and porterhouse paired either creamed spinach, mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. The steaks were cooked to the perfect temperature but overall okay. The creamed spinach and mashed potatoes were not good but the mac was flavorful and smoky. The service was excellent and it's definitely a good spot for a larger party but not sure if I'd come here on my own.
I came here for a work dinner and I highly suggest this place for groups. Whether you are going for work or having a get together, they have great family style meals, and private rooms. The food is delicious and I love the character and history of the location read more
Restaurant week menu: Potted beef & bacon - Yorkshire puddings, onion gravy Steak frites - dry-aged rump, beef fat fries, gentleman's relish Sticky toffee sundae - milk ice cream, sticky toffee sponge Baked Sea Bream - chili, rosemary & garlic, fennel salad Hot chocolate tart - brown butter ice cream Ash-baked beets - pickled fennel, horseradish, hazelnut Regular Menu: Charcoal-roasted Scallops - white port & garlic Bone Marrow Oysters - charcoal-roasted The only total miss was the bone marrow oysters where it just tasted like bread crumbs and not the oyster at all. Scallops were exceptional and our favorite dish; well balanced between fresh and rich flavors. Potted beef and Yorkshire pudding were a new experience and very filling and tasty. Steak frites were cooked to perfection and so flavorful. Sea bream melts in your mouth; would be perfect if skin was crispy. Desserts were both good. Very good quality and quantity for RW price. Hopefully it stays that way. They also have a weekday happy hour menu that's absolutely worth checking out. Service was very good. Place can get pretty loud though. read more
Have been looking forward to visiting Hawksmoor since I tried the NYC outpost a few years ago. The spacious dining room was a nice start as it felt open but not sparse. We started our meal with the Potted Beef and Bacon. This was a very unique dish and was very tasty. The Yorkshire pudding was light and fluffy but could have used more to enjoy the marrow and bacon. Where the meal fell down a little was their steak. I was hoping for more flavor from the charcoal cooking and it just tasted a little bland. We very much enjoyed the chips and the Boston Lettuce salad. Service was great. We had a friendly server that gave us some good recommendations off the menu. read more
What a delightful restaurant! They transformed the old Gino's East into a classy British restaurant! The staff were super attentive, the drinks were delicious and the food was Devine. This was a great restaurant experience in Chicago. Even though it's hard to get out of my head that it's not Gino's Pizza anymore, they did a great job of repurposing the restaurant. The service was absolutely flawless. Everybody on the weight staff was more than happy to help and worked very efficiently. The oysters and Sunday roasts were very good. Everything was cooked perfectly, seasoned well, and the presentation was again flawless. This is a huge space for a restaurant and they're using it well. I do miss the days of it being Gino's pizza, but this is a great repurposing of the place. read more
My partner and I brought friends back to this spot and they all had a great experience and enjoyed the food. We dined on a Saturday evening so it was busy. The only downside to the dinner was that food took a hot minute to come out. Last time when we came on a Tuesday evening, they mentioned that steaks take awhile to come out due to rest time. The time between receiving our apps and our steaks was about 45-50 minutes, which felt a little too long. For appetizers, we did the bone marrow oysters again which is our favorite item here. We also tried the steak tartare which wasn't too bad - it's served with a side of thin bread crisps. The caesar salad was also fresh and delicious and the beet salad is one of my favorite. I loved the sweetness of the beets paired with the horseradish sauce. As for the steak, I got the strip this time. I am not a big fan of aged-dry steaks because they get a little too robust for me, but this one was just right! I do prefer their filet here over the strip though. The side of mushrooms was delicious and I loved them. The mashed potatoes are always a great pick. The mac and cheese was also super cheesy and you can tell that they used good cheese. I always enjoy the ambiance here and the friendly staff, it definitely elevates the experience. read more
Love a good Sunday roast! My husband and I visited for a Sunday roast. As a British person I take my roasts SERIOUSLY... Here is my review just on the roast alone; Meat- 1000/10.. Oliver Twist vibes : please sir can I have some more Yorkshire: 7/10- just a little crispy for my liking but good Roast potatoes: 6.2 /10 would've liked them a bit crispier Carrots and veggies: 9.7/10 nice flavors and good texture Gravy: 10/10- I could swim in it. I really enjoyed the experience I will absolutely be returning. I do think the wine selection could be a little larger. I was unable to try the Rolo's too because they were sold out.. so I have to return for those alone. The space is awesome and nicely decorated and the staff are very friendly. My only issue is that it's a bit on the pricey side so will not be coming every Sunday... however I will absolutely return! read more
I highly recommend Hawksmorr. I went here a few months back for restaurant week before a play on a Friday evening, and we were pleased with the experience. We had an early reservation (5:30) and were surprised to find the bar of walk-ins already nearly full upon arrival. Not many tables were taken when we sat down, but every table was filled by the time we left. The ambiance is very much reminiscent of an English style steakhouse, from the wall decor to the bathroom. They nailed the theme's execution allow it to stand out as different in Chicago amongst the many steakhouse options. We had great service from our server as he gave us the story behind the restaurant and how the chain had recently come to the United States, starting with Chicago and another location I can't remember. He was helpful in aiding in our drink/food choices, all of which were great. The appetizer of the potted beef was a restaurant week special and was the star of the show - I had never had anything like it. Super flavorful and decadent. I also remember really enjoying my mocktail. We would gladly go back. read more
Came solely for a bar pop. I'm also partial to whisky so my opinion may be biased. Drink weren't bad but I can't imagine these drinks making this the 13th best place for cocktails in all of Asia. Slider was super mediocre. My first drink featured gin & it too was subpar. My 2nd cocktail was better but still nothing to rave about. Glad I tried them but I could've had a v8 at home. read more
Came to check out their Happy Hour menu. It used to be daily 5-7, but now it's just 5-6. I think the menu changes so def call before you go bc their website isn't always up to date. Also there might still be a diff menu for the bar and the rest of the restaurant - also best to ask. We came in on a Friday without a reservation and they were able to seat us at the bar. We tried the bone marrow oysters, regular oyster and the $25 Steak Frites. The regular oysters were fine, a bit large for my taste but clean. The bone marrow ones were good but I'm glad we only got 6 cuz it's a bit rich. Next time I definitely want to try the Vietnamese oysters (not in HH menu). Then we both got the $25 steak frites. The steaks were cooked perfectly but I forget this is a UK restaurant so the flavors are not like a typical Chicago steak (buttery, salty and crisp on the outside). It was def good but I did miss the traditional flavors of the steaks we are used to getting but overall it's a great place to check out. Note: It's dark inside. This steak house was recommended by a Chicago native so I set up a reservation. We started with a whiskey special (with ginger and lemongrass) and their take on a Shirley temple (with hints of ginger and lemon). On a Sunday night, the steak options were limited by some sell outs but I don't feel I missed out on anything. The server Julian was very attentive and informative. We opted for a 14 oz rib eye with garlic shrimp, creamed spinach, and sourdough and it was perfect for my party of two. The steak was well cooked, the spinach was herbaceous and flavorful, and the shrimp were massive. I especially loved dipping the sourdough in the buttery shrimp sauce. Although we didn't have room for dessert, we received complimentary cookies to cap off the meal. I would highly recommend this spot for a date night or group dinner as the vibe was intimate and elevated, without being too formal. And there are plenty of other options to try on the menu. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Chicago. read more

This was my first visit to Hawksmoor--and it will definitely not be my last. I came in for the happy hour menu as a test run; it's an upscale steakhouse, and before diving deep into the full menu, I wanted to see if it was worth the splurge. Spoiler: it absolutely is. Let's start with the cocktails. I had three (don't judge), and each one was more delicious than the last. First up: the Pete Dandy. At first sip, we thought it was just a really good ginger beer... until it hit me and I had to ask, "Is there alcohol in this?" Yes, ma'am, and it was gloriously smooth. Bright, refreshing, gingery with a subtle peppery kick--did I mention it was delicious? Next was the margarita--good, but I asked for light ice and it came with a bit too much, so it got a little watered down. That's the only thing keeping this from being a straight 5-star happy hour. Then came the Amaretto cocktail. Sweet. Smooth. Balanced. Absolutely perfect. I'm not a cocktail person normally, but I couldn't resist trying the next and the next. Now for the food. I tried both the raw oysters and the bone marrow oyster. I'm not an oyster girl, but I gave them a shot. The raw one was just too large and briny for me--oyster lovers might swoon, but it wasn't for me. The bone marrow oyster, though? Succulent, buttery (thanks to that marrow), warm, and steamed to perfection. Still wouldn't order it again personally, but for those who love oysters, this is your moment. Then... came the steak. I wasn't planning on it, but the vibe, the drinks, and the good company convinced me. I went with a medium-rare dry-aged ribeye, and it was perfection. Just enough funk to let you know it's been aged, but not overwhelming. Tender, flavorful, and only a couple tiny gristly bits--exactly what you'd expect and want from a ribeye. And now... the star of the show: the beef fat fries. These fries are a religious experience. Crispy, rich, perfectly seasoned--I'd come back just for these any day of the week. Monday through Sunday. Twice on Saturday. We were too full for dessert, but from the ambience (warm lighting, elegant but comfortable), to the host's charming British accent, to our joyful, respectful, and attentive waiter, Hawksmoor blew me away. A brand new steakhouse to add to the ranks in the city! This one originates in the UK with locations in NYC. A very large three floor space. With most of the main dining on the ground floor. The other floors include spaces for group dining and venue space. Love the warm decor, think classic wood from a pub meets art deco gold. Also, keep an eye on the leather menu booklets that are designed to feature Chicago. You can tell they own thirteen locations as it is very professionally ran across the board. On labor day weekend they weren't too busy so it looks like the word is still getting out. The menu certainly has some British influences from the fries that are listed as "chips" to the sticky toffee pudding desert which was delicious. We also got the generously large fried shrimp with delicious jalepeno tartar sauce. For mains it was of course the charcoal grilled and sustainability sourced steak. They held up very well to the local competition. Cocktail selection and taste were ok for my preferences. Overall a very good steakhouse option located in River North! read more
Whenever I hear about a new steakhouse coming to Chicago, I do my best to make a reservation quick. Hawksmoor opened June 2024, and I was able to snag a reservation via OpenTable in July with no problem. I was seated promptly upon arrival; as I walked thru the dining floor, I noticed it is a decent size but doesn't get too loud which I like. I started off with the potted beef with bacon, which is like a pastry you can top with onion gravy/meat. Pretty cool to try if you like savory dishes. After that I went straight to the real deal -their 14oz strip steak, and I paired it with mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. The steak was solid; the potatoes weren't bad but i didn't care much for the spinach. The portion sizes were a tad small (albeit filling) and the price was in line for what you'd expect at a Chicago steakhouse ($125/person before tax, tip and alcohol.) And I forgot to mention - my favorite part about dining here was the service. My server was very attentive, and even the people who brought out the various dishes were friendly and anxious to see what I thought about the dishes. Overall this place is a win and I'd love to revisit in the future read more

Everything about Hawksmoor is wonderful. Highly recommend coming for happy hour (5-6pm everyday) and getting the burger for $21 or the burger with fries and ginger drink for $40. It's a huge burger and very filling. The atmosphere and service is also wonderful. read more

We've been enjoying Hawksmoor steaks for more than 13 years and when we learned they opened in Chicago we were excited to try and were not disappointed. We ate here recently on a Saturday night. Really enjoyed the experience. Cocktails were good but they are batched, and the menu hides the ball here. I would recommend ordering them a la carte and you'll save a buck or two. The Manhattan combines bourbon and rye, and is excellent. But the custom made Vieux Carre is even better. We'll get back to that. Wine list was good, but pricey. We ordered a St Joseph from Chave, which was excellent. We were eating in the basement, and it was a lovely, high ceilinged room with dark, wood heavy decor. I particularly loved their four top tables, which were round and somehow combined roominess with intimacy. They were gorgeously constructed of solid wood with cherry (I think) finish. The chairs were luxuriously upholstered, and service was expert and attentive. The shrimp cocktail came with an outstanding chili crunch cocktail sauce. It had an elegant spicy complexity that lingered over your tongue, more caressing and luxurious than the usual one-two punch to the sinuses delivered by horseradish. Highly recommend. For dinner we split a 14 oz Chateaubriand with mushrooms Diane and mac and cheese. We did not order the fries but we wish we did, they looked great. The mushrooms and mac were both delicious appetizers, the mushrooms in particular had decadent flavor. For the steak itself, it was fine, but not astounding. I don't particularly care for the current trend of charcoal grilling because the outside turns burnt and unpleasantly gritty. Such was the case here. The flip side is that with a larger cut of beef, there is more interior meat which would be tender. The chateaubriand was decent, but they recommended a medium rare temp. I thought that was overdoing it; I would have preferred rare. However the meal did end on a high note as Desserts were AMAZING. I got the Peanut Butter Louis and Kelly got the Plate of Tributes, which are the most delicious rolos you've ever had. The PBL is a decadent peanut butter and caramel chocolate covered candy bar with a dollop of ice cream - peanut butter, I believe, but my memory is overwhelmed by its deliciousness. Two of the finest desserts I have ever had. We ended our night with a Vieux Carre and a Last Word, and our bartender was so excited by our Old School classics order he brought the drinks out himself to congratulate us. Visited Hawksmoor to celebrate an anniversary and enjoy their special Happy Hour offerings. Their burger & fries for $20 on the HH menu is a great deal. The fries are excellent and the burger is an elevated homage to the classic Big Mac. Juicy and rich, they hit the spot! The steak & frites for $25 is another classic done correctly. You cannot beat these prices, so long as you don't mind dining on the earlier side. Service was top notch and they did a great job of making sure we felt special during our celebration. On my first trip to London, I found my way to Hawksmoor Seven Dials on a quiet side street in Covent Garden. I had an amazing steak dinner so I was very excited to hear that Hawksmoor would be opening in Chicago. I stopped by for a Sunday Roast and it felt like I was on holiday again. The roast came with dry-aged beef, roast potatoes, a massive Yorkshire pudding, buttered cabbage, roasted garlic and a bone marrow stuffing. I also ordered the Hawksmoor stuffing which paired perfectly. The roast was such a big portion that I had enough leftovers for a second meal. read more

I'm struggling with my review. The food was very good but the PR was selling a white tablecloth restaurant. This is a British Pub with white tablecloth prices. This is a steakhouse. There are minimal other foods. One fish, one chicken, etc. The meat was very good! I brought my own wine and the corkage fee was $50, but my wine was much more. One of our friends had 2 glasses of Sancerre for $80! Watch the prices! What was great was the service and the food. We had wonderful oysters from Island Creek in Massachusetts and perfectly shucked. The charcoal roasted scallops were fantastic. The beet salad was also delicious. 3 of us shared the 24 oz chateaubriand was tender but lukewarm. Our other friend had the Monk fish, which was the only fish choice, but very good. The sides were good but small. Creamed spinach and the macaroni and cheese were good, but the beef dripping fries were so so. My ending message is it's a meat pub, but very good meat! read more

So as someone who lived in the UK for years and has an English husband, we were very hopeful and Hawksmoor didn't disappoint . Their Sunday roast is outstanding. A massive Yorkshire pudding, roasted garlic and the juiciest rump paired with a savory and buttery bone marrow gravy. It does get busy so make a reservation if you can but the decor does remind me of the pubs in London. Sticky toffee pudding is served as is or in sundae form which is very interesting. Went for a celebratory dinner, what a night! John made our evening absolutely fantastic, with great jokes, amazing attentive service, and answering all my random questions. He even gave us a great little dessert at the end on the house!! If I didn't already love this place I would say he sold me. When we got there the happy hour hadn't ended, got some of the fried oysters with jalapeño tartar sauce, and the raw oysters on the half shell. Not as good as the visit as they were smaller. However, at 2 dollars a piece, they were a fantastic east coast oyster. I would especially recommend some of the fried oysters, such a great flavor. The B.E.E.F burger was immensely good. It's something I would never order at a steak house, however something I 100% will eat again. Porterhouse was amazing, seasoned to perfection, however at 170 for a 28 OZ it felt a bit pricey. Bone marrow was great. Some bread to dip it in would have been nice in addition. Boston lettuce salad was really tasty, such a refreshing side to have with a rich steak. It was our first time dining, and it was amazing. Went for my husband birthday. We came on Sunday night 12/22 . Most of the food was amazing. We love the fried shrimp, scallops cooked so perfectly and mushroom wellington. My husband had the sunday roast. He loves it. The desserts to die for. I love warm chocolate and passionfruit pavlova. I would come back just for that, super delicious . The experience was made even better by the exceptional service from Rachel. She was attentive, friendly and truly made the evening special.
