We shared: 1. Ribeye - Dry-Aged 48 days, 22oz 2. Cangrejo Tostada - Crab, Avocado, Coconut, Lemongrass, Pistachio, Asian Pear 3. Foccacia Fry Bread - Burrata, Pimentón Coriander Crumble 4. Three Layer Chocolate Cake - Dark Cherries, Vanilla Bean Ice Cream 5. Tres Leches Tiramisu - Mascarpone Mousse, Cafe De Olla Cocoa 6. Asparagus - Diosa Verde, Pistachio Dukka 7. Potato Smash - Sun-dried Tomato, Duck Fat, Crema You can't go wrong with either the crab tostada or the fry bread, both apps I noticed were ordered often in photos. The former is light and refreshing. The latter is quite rich. Both are a great balance of crispy and soft textures. The (ribeye) steak of the steakhouse was excellent and also must-get. Both desserts were well executed and quite decadent in a good way, for my fellow sweet tooths. The asparagus and potato sides were not as flavorful or impressive as everything else but not bad either. Service was good; Grace, and other staff , were very nice and helpful. Ambience was simple and relaxing. I'd recommend this place.

We visited Trino for restaurant week and as a treat my younger sister's 16th birthday. She is a "high standards" type of picky eater and normally doesn't have much of an appetite for even the things she does like -- but she ate almost every bite of the 4-course restaurant week menu! The service here was amazing, and our server was very informative and told us so many fun details of the ingredients, the story behind each dish, and the chefs inspirations. Most notably, I appreciated that they didn't bat an eye when my sister (again, the picky one that doesn't eat much) asked for her prime rib to be medium well. Weird request, I know! They didn't even question it and made her dish as requested. Of course she loved it! Appreciated how easily they accommodated without question. It's a super vibey place and they have music while we dined. I'd love to come back for a date night or a girls night to try the full menu.

My bff and I came here for a bar crawl. Friendly staff, great drinks and the music was great.

A great blend of steakhouse meets taqueria vibe. Walked into a blend of Overall the services was was quick and efficient. The server forgot our salads but the appetizers filled us very well. For appetizers we had the lamb empanadas and the Hawaiian rolls were amazing! I ordered the skirt steak which was cooked perfectly, tasty, tender and with a nice char. The table was happy with their orders and I snuck a piece of the ribeye and that was a melt in your mouth moment! All in all you can feel the newness of the restaurant but overall a must try.

I am very impressed with Trino! It's rare that I ever find more than 1 item at a restaurant that makes my "Favorite Food Items in Chicago" but Trino has done it! It has replaced the old Komo establishment and the vibes are somewhat similar. We came to celebrate my partner's birthday and the food was so satisfying. We started off with oysters that featured a sweet and sour sauce topped with a thin slice of iberico. The server torched the top to let the iberico melt. This combination of flavor is unlike anything I've had on an oyster. It reminds me of a mangonada (in a good way). For steaks, we went with the Dry-Aged Ribeye and the Bavette Wagyu. The ribeye was good but isn't as great as other dry-aged ribeye's that we've had, especially for the price point. However, I highly recommend the Bavette Wagyu. The flavor was impeccable and it was SO tender. My favorite item ever. We paired these cuts with the Veracruzana Olivada sauce. It was good but nothing too outstanding. On the side, we chose the potato smash. I had high expectations for this but it wasn't anything special. We ended our meal with the Tres Leches Tiramisu which was the most heavenly bowl of dessert one could ask for. This is the second item that makes my 'favorite' list in Chicago. The staff also graciously shared a fun scoop of ice cream with a candle for the birthday celebration. I have two 'whoopsies' to note. The first is that the booth seat at our table was a bit uncomfortable since it is at the crack of where two booths join. I had to partially sit on my jacket to 'level' out the seat. The second is that the wine glass that was brought out to me was super dusty inside so we had to get it replaced. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and would definitely come back to try more.

Trino excels at making you feel pampered from the second you encounter the hostess, to the way the table is set, having plates and silverware whisked away and re-set, to never wanting for another refill of water or drink. The soft lighting, spacious booths and well appointed tables make the diner feel like they are in their own little oasis. The insight regarding the menu and the entire service provided by our waitress, Drew, was exemplary. She is truly a gem. We started our meal with the focaccia fry bread and cangrejo tostada. The fry bread managed to be crispy yet light and played well with the burrata. I cannot personally speak on the tostada as I did not try it, but it went faster in my group than the focaccia fry bread. Next, we had the shrimp & grits and I will say it was the least notable of the menu items last night. Entrees consisted of skirt steak, picanha prime rib, bavette wagyu, and bucatini polanco, with mashed potatoes and asparagus as sides. We all exchanged bites and everything was exquisite. To make sure there was room for dessert, we cut ourselves off a little early and the staff packaged our leftovers for us. That left us to enjoy the desserts of peaches y crema and tres leches tiramisu. They were both delicious but the tiramisu was favored by our party. Trino may be new, but you would never know it based on the above.

The food and service were both great. Everything was delicious and a nice subtle twist. Their Wagyu tartare was on point with a unique Latin American twist (subtle). Their Caesar salad was excellent (had the anchovies, homemade nutty dressing, and kale as well as the normal lettuce. The crab tostada was top notch; light refreshing taste and fresh. We also had the picanha and Bavette steaks, fries, duck-fat refried beans. The bathrooms need a little bit of better cleaning though... The music was slightly too loud.

Went for restaurant week so the photos may differ from their standard service. Overall was a great experience, especially considering this is a newer restaurant. The vibe inside is cozy but welcoming, and the bar seemed like a great place to grab a drink and app in the future. There was not one food dish that I didn't like. While the portions were smaller, it made for a great tasting experience to try multiple items. We opted in for the beverage pairing as well and all went with each course perfectly! I will be back here again to try their normal menu for the other items.

Service was lovely! Food was amazing. The Hawaiian roll with the flavored butters was a huge highlight. The restaurant has a good ambiance as well for special occasions or a date night!

    Dry aged Ribeye

Trino - Chicago, IL: That Dry-Aged Ribeye Just Rewrote My Will I've eaten a lot of steak in this city. Last night at Trino, I finally met the one I'd fake my own death for. The 45-day dry-aged ribeye arrives like a victory parade: 24 ounces of Prime beef with a mahogany crust so perfect it looks airbrushed, capped with a thick blanket of snow-white fat that renders down into liquid gold while you stare in disbelief. They slice it tableside (because of course they do), revealing a deep crimson center that's medium-rare from edge to absolute edge. First bite? Silence at the table. Second bite? Involuntary profanity. The flavor is insane: intense funk from the aging, pure beef sweetness, a whisper of smoke from the charcoal grill, and a mineral finish that lingers like a love letter. I didn't know steak could taste this alive. The bone-marrow butter they melt over the top should be illegal in all 50 states. The charred scallions and crispy potatoes that come alongside disappear in roughly 42 seconds. Everything else we tried was flawless (wagyu carpaccio that melts, cacio e pepe that hugs your soul), but that ribeye is the reason people will be talking about Trino in 2030 the same way we still talk about Gibsons in the '90s. Cocktails are killer, the wine list is deep and fairly priced, and the sleek River North room feels like money without ever feeling stuffy. Service is warm, sharp, and genuinely excited to watch you lose your mind over beef. Trino didn't just serve me dinner. They served me the new benchmark for every steak I'll ever eat again. That dry-aged ribeye wasn't just fantastic; it was a religious experience on a plate. Five stars is an insult. Reserve now, thank me later, and prepare to have your steak standards ruined forever. I'm already counting the hours until I can go back.

An absolutely spectacular experience at Trino! We loved the intimate vibe and the ambiance was perfect for our group. The food was outstanding from start to finish--we ordered the tostada, empanadas, and the Wagyu tartare to start, and everything was delicious. For the main event, I had the steak special, and I can honestly say it was the best steak I've had, maybe ever. All of our steaks were cooked perfectly. You also have to try the duck fat beans! Huge kudos to Chef Stephen Sandoval and the team for such a memorable meal. Highly recommend!

$400+ dinner for two, including drinks. Nothing special,…read morelike we hoped. Pretty much standard steakhouse fare ... maybe a little less tasty than some of the other top-ranked steakhouses I've been to. I'd put it on par with Smith & Wollensky or Capital Grille, which is to say better than average and overpriced. To start off, the wicked stepsister hosts, who look about 20 years old, at the front seem to take joy in making you wait, even if you have a reservation and laugh in your face when you ask to sit in a certain area. There is nothing cool about dealing with a 20 year old on a power trip when paying almost half a grand for dinner for two. The real hero of this establishment should be their lighting designer ... I would venture to say that the dimly-lit yet perfect feeling vibe of the restaurant is what sets it apart. If not for the design of the restaurant, it would be just another steakhouse. The waiters are as pretentious as the hostesses. You know you you walk into a Restoration Hardware store and someone making minimum wage gives you, 'mansion attitude'? That's everyone we encountered at Bacette's ... insufferable snobs. We started out with cocktails, which were well made. Nowhere were the prices but expect a cocktail to set you back $25. The steaks are around $80 - $120. We both had the bone-in filet mignon, which was $89 at the time of the review. I guess it's supposedly a rare cut of meat ... although when I asked our butcher about it being rare, he chuckled and said, 'whatever sells steaks, I guess'. The filet was good ... again, nothing amazing ... on par with a chain like Capital Grille. I ordered mine medium rare and it came medium and a bit under seasoned. Each steak comes with a side of Bearnaise sauce, which honestly was the best part of the meal. Rarely would I consider ruining a $89 steak by dipping it in sauce ... but it kind of needed the extra kick. We got asparagus and the truffle Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was better than the steak, however, we were expecting the normal overflowing sides, which are usually too much for two people to finish. The Mac and cheese was pretty small and we felt like it was more like a single side ... especially given that the filet (minus the bone) was probably around 8 ounces. Asparagus was just your average asparagus. We had the chocolate pie and ice cream for dessert. The chocolate cake was almost like an entire slice of cake frosting with a scoop of dense whipped cream on top. Way too sweet and we barely ate half amongst the both of us. The ice cream was nothing special. We didn't realize you could not have a reservation and sit at the bar. Honestly, we were placed downstairs at a table ... and felt like we were sitting in a basement. It was not as nice as the upper restaurant and they refused to move us when we asked them if we could sit upstairs in the better part. She gleefully said it would be a two hour wait to change tables. If we knew we could have just snagged an empty bar seat upstairs, we'd have done that because it's better than the basement. Although, we saw some near arguments as people rushed in to get a bar stool in front of people who were waiting a long time. And, it's a little awkward to eat with vultures standing behind you waiting to jump into your seat, I'd imagine. So maybe make sure that you request to be seated upstairs and see if the mean girls hostess will accommodate the request. Overall, Chicago has so many good steakhouses, the fact that this one ranked so highly mystifies me. I've been to several better than this which were not even ranked. The atmosphere is cool ... everything else is average ... except for the attitudes which are below average.

Within two seconds, a waitress came over with napkins to help clean up the mess, the guy sitting next to me got on the floor and wiped it all up, and the woman whom I spilled the drink all over was like "Don't even worry about! At least you caught the wine glass!" Wow! I was stunned at how cool everyone was, and it set the tone for the evening. We ordered a bunch stuff to try: * Raw oysters - good, nothing to rave about * Argentinian shrimp - the shrimp were small and looked kinda depressing, flavor was decent though * Bossam - this was probably the lowlight for me, traditional bossam is pork belly, it is just not the same without the fat, pork collar does not cut it! * Short rib skewer- flavorful, cooked just right, delicious * Garlic chive pancake - this was my favorite, full of scallions, nice crunch on the sides and soft in the middle * Chilled soda noodle and kimchi - not traditional cold noodles, but it was tasty * Crudo - it was a TINY piece, certainly not worth the price even though it tasted fine, this was not a happy menu item * Basque cheesecake - wanted the Perilla sundae but was sold out, so settled for the cheesecake, it was just fine Staff were all very friendly and helpful. It was a nice experience overall. For happy hour, I would come back!
